  1. That is an awesome NSV! I had one today also! I can wear my 10 year old sons shirts, they are L youth. made my day!!!
  2. I am still surprised at how eating less food than I have ever in my life has made me appreciate the tastes of food so accutely. My husband made me one of the best meals I ever eaten tonight - it was amazing. Simple - a perfectly prepared omelet and some absolutely ripe sliced garden (REAL) tomatoes. The food tastes exploded in my mouth like I was eating pop-rocks. I just closed my eyes and enjoyed the experience of eating. I used to eat until I was numb and the food didn't even taste good at the point I would stop - I was full to the point was miserable and about to gag. The sleeve surgery has given me back the gift of enjoying food. I don't care if I ever eat a white carb again if I can keep this appreciation of a well prepared meal.

    Period changes

This is in "ladies only" but I don't really care if men read/respond to it (though I have no idea why this would interest menfolk) so... just a disclaimer. Ever since I fell in the "morbidly obese" category my periods have been irregular. Usually I could count on my period to come every other month. Each time I got my period it would come with wicked PMS and menstrual cramps that rival labor pain - funny, when I gave birth and reached 8 cm I thought to myself "Huh, this is what my worst menstrual cramps feel like." Just so people know what kind of hell I've lived with each period! I'd have to take 4 Advil and 1 hydrocodone every 4 hours just to manage the pain. If I missed a dose, I'd be curled up on the floor and weeping. And when my cramps woke me in the middle of the night and I had to wait 45 minutes for the medicine to kick in... unbearable. Anyway, after I had my baby my periods blessedly vanished (probably due to breastfeeding for 6 months). Got my first period 9 months postpartum - no PMS, no pain, just blood. Thought I was just lucky. Periods started up every 2-3 months, painless, just blood. I thought I was living the dream. Then I lost 30 pounds and now it seems like my hormones are sorting themselves out again. I am suffering from my monstrous PMS again and feel the volcanic buildup of menstrual cramps. It's normal to see a regularization of menstruation after losing weight, yes? Anyone here go from periods every 2-3 months to going back to a 28 day cycle? I guess this is kind of a back-handed NSV I'm not particularly excited about this one. My uterus is retiring from childbearing so if anyone can recommend BC methods that stop periods and don't cause a surge in appetite I'd appreciate it. I hate having my period!!!

    My Unexpected Playground NSV

It is fantastic when we recognize NSV's. Plus this is something that you could never accomplish as a youngster too! BTW if I raise my arms too, I have a lot of skin hanging that I call my bat wings....... LOL Keep it up I realized the other day i like it when men look at my body now...... Never did before.

    My Unexpected Playground NSV

I am just over 2.5 years post op, and sometimes we forget how far we have come. Lately I have been struggling a little with body image and my head and NSV's elude me. While the other day, I did something that I never thought I would be able to do. I was at the playground with my children and decided to give the monkey bars a whirl. I am 34 years old and have NEVER been able to go across monkey bars, not even as a child (my weight struggles began in Kindergarten). With some determination, I crossed the monkey bars!! I thought my arms were going to fall off afterwards and I may have pulled a muscle, but I still did it!
  6. Hi everyone. I've been posting a lot lately but I just wanted to share my very first NSV!! I travel regularly and need to use a seat belt extender while on a flight for about the past year or so. This weekend I took two flights, one on them those teeny tiny planes, and both times I didn't need a seat belt extender!!!!! The seatbelt is still a little bit snug but I'm soooo excited! I got my sleeve just two weeks ago on 12/5! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  11. I have a dog her name is Lolly she is a boston terrior. We live near a very busy highway in a apartment. And when I opened up the door she took off. Now here I am in my pj's, I have dinner cooking on the stove. And this dog is fast. Well she runs next to the highway up 2 very steep hills before i caught her. If I would have not had this surgery In July. I would have never been able to keep up with her. So if anyone saw a crazy looking women running down the side of 141 wearing a purple robe , It was me. And of course it was rush hour traffic. Well my dog is sound asleep now , she seems to be wore out. And I burned some extra calories today.
  12. I recently went on vacation, and a few women in the group went shopping together. There was a T-shirt that I liked and I was trying to decide what size to purchase. I held a Large against me and one of the women said, "Oh, you are so small I think the Medium would be better." Me---small!!! But when I looked at the other women, although none were obese I was the thinnest. (We were all about fifty-ish.) Meals were included and were served buffet-style. I was never a big Breakfast eater even before surgery but I love my coffee, so most mornings I would have a couple of cups. Then I might have a spoon of scrambled egg and a slice of bacon and I would be done. I ate similarly at lunch and dinner--protein first and maybe a bite or two of vegetables. I noticed that other people had loaded plates and I only had a dab or two of something but no one said anything until the last night. For dessert, there was flan (I love flan) and I got a slice about as big as my thumb. It was the first dessert I had on the trip as none of the others had appealed to me before. One of the women looked at it on my plate and screeched, "We wondered what you ate and now I see that you eat JUNK!" I just smiled at her and enjoyed my flan because I am SMALL now.

    New Nsv

Somebody told me I looked Stylish today! WHAT!!!! YAY!!!! The weight I have lost gave me the confidence today to wear my jeans inside my new tall boots. And the compliments have been rolling in. This is huge for me. I am 100% a jeans and t-shirt girl, which is allowed at work. But I knew for sure, one day soon that Stacy and Clinton from "What Not To Wear" would be banging down my door! Stylish....who knew! Thank you lapband

    NSV For Me...

Way to GO!! Hey just getting out of our old routine is a NSV!!! GOOD JOB!!!
  22. So I've been a little frustrated with the scale. It's moving pretty slow, and I get discouraged seeing others dropping BMI on here, even though I know that BMI is a crappy measure of fitness/health. So, it felt pretty good to put on the old size 36 jeans from my closet that I last wore in 2005. I know that they are Old Navy size 36, so that's probably not a "real" 36, but I was size 42 Old Navy back in November, so 3 sizes is 3 sizes. It's fun to go fishing into the back of my closet for old clothes that I had sad goodbye to for so long. Long term goal is to be able to grab any size 34 off the rack and know that it will fit. Hopefully a few months more. I'm not loving the muffin-top that I see in some shirts, but I have to remember that it used to be a big SUV tire not a off-road bike tire around my waist. BTW, this is what an NSV means: non-scale victory...it took me almost 3 months on the board to learn what that acronym meant. Best of luck to you all in our losing process.
  23. Just a quicky here; while I was in Hawaii, I discovered that I can now comfortably wear a 38 inch waist jeans, shorts, and slacks. The last time I could fit into pants with smaller than a 40 inch waist, I was 18 years old. I'm well on track to "bottoming out" at around a 36 inch waist by my birthday in June, and given how solidly built my legs and butt are (TMI?) that's going to be just about cloth on muscle and bone, very little fat. So that's a tremendously great feeling; to be fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into since I was a teenager! And only 9 months out! Huzzah!
  24. So I have set a few goals for myself, and I thought it would help to share them here. I have lost 105 pounds total so far, 92 since the date of surgery. I lost 13 pounds the 2 weeks before sugery. So, I think my weightloss has been pretty good, and now it is slowing down. I can't really complain because I am still losing 2-3 pounds a week. But I think I could lose 4-5 pounds a week since I stil have 99 to lose. So, I am going to change things up for the next few weeks. I have been tracking what I eat and I am grazing way too much. Its going to be hard to break that, but I will! Right now, I am at 264 pounds. My goal is to be 240 pounds by March 28th, 2011. That is 6 weeks away, so an average of 4 pounds per week. I don't think that's an unacheivable goal for me. My second goal is to stop the snacking! And my third goal is to not weigh myself this entire week, until Monday morning!!! That will be SOooooo hard since I weigh myself multiple times a day! I think it will be more rewarding if I wait all week! And I have an NSV to share too!!! I am now severely obese, instead of MORBIDLY obese! Woohooo. From what I found, severe obesity is a BMI of 35-39.9 and I am at a BMI of 37.9, so I have been out of morbid obesity for a while When I get to 240 pounds, I will just be obese! After I meet that goal, my next mini goal will just to be overweight, hehe! As I type this, I also noticed that I have 99 more pounds to lose! That feels so awesome to have less than 100 pounds to lose when you start out needing to lose over 200 pounds!!! WOW!
