You are doing great! Yes, it is a long road to goal, but you are well on your way! Goal just seems so far away so I have tried to set little mini-goals along the way. One of the things that has helped me the most is setting out the next item of clothing I will be able to wear. I have saved clothing over the years in hopes I would take off weight and get back into the stuff. I went through my closet and tried to organize it by size. I sometimes try things on to see if they fit. I will bring to the front of the closet the pair of jeans or whatever that is just a little too tight to zip comfortably or too tight to wear in public. I try them on about once a week and before I know it, they fit! It is just so much better than looking ahead to that final goal weight.

Hi Connie, I just passed my 5 week mark this week. It looks like you're doing terrific. I love reading about your NSV's! You've done better than me with the weight loss as I've let go of 19 pounds since surgery morning.

post of weight gain!
FighterGirl replied to jaciqltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jacq, I agree with everyone. Plus, right now weight loss should come second to healing. Stay away from that scale! Nutrition is the most important part. As you will learn with time, this surgery will make it harder for you to heal. -
3 Months today...........
laney replied to BIGBRAND0105's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weight loss!!! I will be one month post op this Sunday and I also had very little discomfort after surgery. I followed the Drs plan exactly as I was and had no issues. I now have been on soft foods for 5 days and doing ok. I do know when I eat to fast or had that one bite to much. My stomach lets me know. My start weight was 263. Surgery Day I was 249 today 229. My goal right now is to get under 200 pounds and then I will set up another goal. I just am taking it slow because I have not seen under 200 pounds in over 10 yrs. I wish you all the best in your journey congrats again on the weight loss!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Went to the gym today at 4.5 wks. How do I know if I hurt myself?
itstimealready posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt great. Did 45 minutes on elliptical...then got cocky and did a bunch of crunches and a few arm machines with lighter weights (40 lbs) and now tummy is hurting. Feels like it irritated my inside incisions. What can I do now? I'm just resting with some Tylenol. Ughhhh do you think I hurt myself? I'm approved to jump horses and unrestricted excessive at 6 wks. I wasn't expecting to get so carried away today. -
I'm sorry you are hurting. Work with specialists to get control over your stress eating. If you had weight-loss surgery and continued to stress eat, you'd be in a world of hurt. Remember that you're not back to square one. You've just taken some serious strides to identifying and controlling your problem. Good luck and remember we're here to help! You can do this!

I've seen many success stories with the gastric sleeve. Many post-op sleevers have lost at least 150 pounds. My weight is 383 and I'm 6 feet tall. My surgeon says my BMI is 54 and that I need the VSG with the duodenal switch but I'm reconsidering because there's a lot of people with my BMI that are really dropping it and are happy with the results. Are there any post-op sleevers here that are at least 5+ years out. If so, I'd like to hear your story. Thank you. -

Here's a question for y'all....
ThinknHealthy replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know. My dad plays bridge with a lady who says her brother was "one of the inventors" but I'm skeptical. I'm totally impressed with the total of your weight loss. My sister is considering the surgery and has a considerable amount to lose. Your success is the type of encouragement she needs. Keep up the good work. And, if you do send a letter to the inventor of the lap band, tell him that we all appreciate it greatly and that he has changed a lot of lives. I'm still waiting for that impact in my life. -
Comppliments = Eating?!

I hate the attention I get when I lose weight! But I want to lose all of this excess weight so bad! I feel that at least with the sleeve it will help me to keep it off, cause I want to be healthy. -
Hi I need some advice
laurigee replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that you want to lose weight, but remember that the band is suppose to help you by losing weight the correct way. Not by not being able to eat. You need to see your doctor right away. You probably do need some fill out. This does not mean you will stop losing weight. What is happening to you is what everyone refers to as pbing. It is not healthy for you or your band. This can cause you to lose your band, ecspecially if it is as bad as you say. You cannot keep these things from your doctor. You need to tell him everything so you are able to use the band the way it is intended. You are not using it properly right now. Ask yourself, if I lose my weight this way, will I be able to live this way forever to maintain my new weight. I'm sure the answer is going to be "NO". So use the band properly and I will guarentee that you will be excited at how great it works and how great it feels. Please don't let another day go by without seeing your doctor. I admire you for having the guts to be honest and trusting us at this site to help support you. Good Luck and keep me informed at what the doctor says, I will be thinking of you. -
I worked so hard to drink 4 ounces just so I can be released. I took the longest shower ever and I loved it. I was scared to get my scars wet but honestly it didn't bother me at all. I'm drinking white cranberry juice with water because my mouth is dry and I haven't had any liquid in the last 2 hours. I am just hot hungry. My tummy is swollen but I don't feel pain unless I Stand too much. I am now laying on my bed and drinking and I love it. I might watch a movie or two whole I'm drinking. It feels great being home. Couldn't be any happier. I am so happy I am starting my New Years fresh. This time my wish will come true. I can't wait to see the weight come off. I happy to have you all here because 90% of the items I took with me and purchased all came handy. Thank you will check back tomorrow

It took me a good 2.5 months and two fills before I started to feel a major restriction. There was some before, yes, but not what I was expecting. Try your best to be patient. It is a journey, not a race, and that is one of the reasons the procedure has worked for me. Yesterday was my 4-year bandiversary and I am on a slow on downward weight trajectory. Good luck!

four weeks and you've lost 25lbs? I would say you are losing weight at a reasonable rate....that's quicker than I did. and losing 25lbs in 4 weeks, you definitely have to be eating less than before. I know the journey can be frustrating, but I suggest take pictures and measurements. I guarantee that even if you hit a week where it seems like you aren't losing weight, its very possible you are losing inches. when you feel like you are still hungry reach for something high in protein. or try a protein shake. keep us posted! good luck!

Fibro myalgia pt. with lots of questions about being accepted
Lori Ann replied to JohnsNaeNae's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome....glad you are here and we welcome you with open arms.....come on this journey with us. I don't think you will have any problems with getting approved......and it doesn't matter what anyone in the class said to you....if you are uncomfortable with yourself, and you have tried things in the past, your BMI is 38.8....you are considered morbidly obese....just like I was. I was the smallest one in there, but I was still wearing a 3X or Size 22-24.....It is absolutely the best thing I ever did for myself (getting the lapband). It has been 2 1/2 years since I got the band.....have maintained my weight for over 1 1/2 years.....I love my band and everything else that comes along with it! Good luck and keep us posted. Sorry we didn't respond right away.....again, Welcome!! Lori -
Gained 10 Lbs This Week
Indymom replied to 1Bumblebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got on the scale this morning and showed a weight gain of 5 lbs from last week. I have not been overeating, but I have eaten foods high in sodium, have not had enough water and ran out of my water pills for my BP a few days ago, so I know it's all water weight. I'm picking up my script tomorrow so I've decided to wait until later in the week for my "real" weigh-in. -

Gained 10 Lbs This Week
Soon2BMiniMommy replied to 1Bumblebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Time of the month, Sweets....it makes a lot of us put on and hold on to Water weight before our cycles, and during, sometimes, too. I can easily gain 3 lbs the week before, then my body flushes it all the week I have my period. I agree 100% that there is physically no possible way to gain 10 lbs of FAT in one week after this surgery. I am guessing a moody, picky scale, water weight, and like rootman said, solid waste retention, maybe, too....or all combined! I'll bet you'll be on here in a week saying that 10 is gone, plus two more!! -
Two Year Bandiversary, February 15, 2008 was my day
Cocoabean posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All, Today is my Two Year Bandiversary! I am down a total of 63 pounds from my all time high. I am 5 pounds away from a normal BMI (149). My weight has been stable for several months. I feel so good where I am that I haven't been strongly motivated to lose the rest of what I need to in order to get to my orginally selected goal of 140. I am maintaining my current weight with ease. I eat to my appetite level and concentrate on making good choices and not eating junk. I am hopeful that this means I will not easily gain the weight back. I am more active than I was two years ago because being more active is easier than it was. How nice is that? I've lost weight, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. I've gained size 10 clothes, self-esteem, and self-confidence. I'm not the largest person in the crowd. I don't feel as though people are looking at my plate and judging what I am eating. I've had no complications. I hope to keep it that way. Best wishes to all as we journey on to healthier selves!! -
Small fluctuations in weight are totally normal. You can fluctuate even 3 or 4 pounds from day to day, even hour to hour. Sodium, hormones, even bowel function can all effect your weight. Plus, we have to remember our bodies aren't machines. It would be so easy if we just lost consistently based on our caloric intake but that's not the case. Our bodies don't want to give up the fat. They're programmed to hold onto it. So, sometimes we hit plateaus and even little increases that are just our body trying to hold onto that fat we're so desperately trying to get rid of. Give it a day or two and you'll see that pound gone. It'll probably take another with it, too.

4 weeks Post-op- does it get better
DENISEMIC replied to Oompaloompa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI I HAD GASTRIC BYPASS 12/24/14. SO TODAY IS MY 2 WEEK MARK. I TOO LIKE YOU HAVE NOT LOST MUCH. I WAS 286 WHEN I STARTED MY 1 WEEK PRE OP FAST. I WAS 279 SURGERY DAY AND WAS 269 THIS PAST MON. THAT 10 LB LOSE IS GREAT BUT I REALLY DID EXPECT MORE BECAUSE OF THE VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF food I WAS GETTING. I WAS ALSO EXHAUSTED ALL THE TIME. I WOKE UP EXHAUSTED. MY HUSBAND KEEPS SAYING THE SAME THING YOU SAID MAGGIE. HE KEEPS REMINDING ME MY BODY HAS GONE THROUGH A MAJOR CHANGE AND REST WILL HELP ME HEAL. THE FOOD IS NOT BOTHERING MUCH BUT THIS LACK OF ENERGY WAS STARTING TO REALLY GET ME. IT'S KIND OF SOOTHING TO KNOW OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME REACTION AND BOUNCED BACK, EVEN IF IT TOOK 2 MONTHS. MY SURGEON DID SAY SOMETIMES HE ASK HE'S PATIENTS NOT TO GET ON THE scale OFTEN BECAUSE FOR SOME IT TAKES THE BODY TIME TO ADJUST AND YOU MIGHT EVEN GAIN WEIGHT. CAN YOU IMAGINE? I JUST WANTED TO WEIGH IN ON THIS & LET YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I KNOW IN THE DAYS TO COME IT'S GOING TO GET MUCH BETTER. -
4 weeks Post-op- does it get better
maggie0210 replied to Oompaloompa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Only 4 weeks is only the beginning. It is going to get so much better. You will need time to recover, you had major surgery. Once on the permanent stage, you can introduce new foods back in. Your strength will return soon. Try to get lots of sleep too, it helps to recover. At least it did for me. I was exhausted for 2 months. Don't focus on weight loss, it will happen. -
New Here Need Advice!

My doc recommends 7-800 calories. To tell you the truth I am not happy with my weight loss rate. I have heard upping calories can help you loose weight but I really don't know how to get in more calories with out bad carbs or fats and I just cant eat that much.
