  3. My son, my friend and I went to the fair this evening. We had a great time. We wanted to see the hypnotist show before we left, so we got good seats right up front. So the hypnotist gets on stage and of course is looking for volunteers. My son is begging me to go up, so I volunteered along with around 15 other people. Now, 7 months ago I never would've wanted to go on a stage in front of hundreds of people when I weighed 333lbs. I would've been mortified at what people would've said about me, and I never would have been relaxed enough to be hypnotized. But that was then, this is now. I now weigh 185lbs, and am so confident in myself that not only did I volunteer, I actually got hypnotized and was the star of the whole show!! My friend was actually laughing so much that she burst a blood vessel in her eye!! My son just loved that I did it, and that I got hypnotized. And when the show was over and I got off the stage, I didn't even feel embarrassed...I felt good that I took such a risk. Funny how losing weight opens up such weird and different opportunities!! What's an NSV? I know the feeling of feeling good! and surprised... I pulled out some clothes I had sadly put away in a suitcase because they didn't fit anymore and were hardly worn ... got out the suitcases ready for my vacation and came across these clothes and tried them on! and they fit better than when I put them away! Whoooooooot! how happy am I? All new gear for my vacation and didn't have to buy any! Ah just found it.Non scale Victory!

    NSVs

That’s so funny! I had taken a picture of how much I tightened my seatbelt when I flew a few weeks ago. Definitely the biggest NSV for me thus far. For years I’ve been asking for extenders, and in September of last year I bought my own off of Amazon for my flights to Ireland and Cancun. So exciting for us!
  6. ProudGrammy

  7. I am a very A type personality and have been obsessed with making sure I do everything the right way. Between this site and sparkpeople.com, I kept track of every tiny little thing. I do believe this is important, but I am an all or nothing kind of gal and have a tendency to go overboard. I was working out 5 hours a week and eating between 600-900 calories daily as my NUT recommended. I had lost something along the lines of 2 lbs in 3 weeks, and although I was losing, needless to say, I was rather frustrated. Last Saturday, two good friends of mine got married. The next morning, I woke up and left with the family for a 5 day camping trip (which included apartment searching, meeting with my grad advisor etc.) to the beach. I decided that I was going to take the week, not do any more exercise than I would naturally get on a camping trick. Jot down what I ate for when I got home, and just trust my tool. I followed the rules about drinking and listened to my pouch. We carried a lot of proteins but we did eat out 4 times on the trip (everyone who hadn't seen us in a while insisted on taking us somewhere). When I went somewhere, I didn't order what I used to, even though it was vacation, I paid attention to my new lifestyle. I moved food around a lot on my plate and pawned lots of stuff off on my husband (who still managed to lose some weight on this trip). The only junk I ate during the trip was a smore I made when we did a midnight camp fire on the beach. I felt a little guilty, but allowed the feeling to pass. I also found out that I get very frustrated when I cannot snack and drive. It is the first time since surgery that I had to give myself an attitude adjustment about food. I felt successful when I couldn't get snacking out of my head, and literally purchased and apple (which was a major NSV because I was completely pleased and satisfied). I stopped eating when I felt full, ate slow, kept people distracted from my intake with conversation and did my best not to obsess. The results: When I weighed myself this morning, I found that I had lost 4 lbs in 5 days! I used my log to plug everything in to sparkpeople and found that I was managing about 1200 calories a day (all those times we had to go out). I found that when we did have to go to a place that was not so healthy, listening to my pouch and making smart diet choices led to a 300-350 calorie meal, vs the 2000-4000 that I could have easily consumed at a restaurant before!! What did I miss the most? Vegetables! I knew I needed my protein, so I got them whenever I could. However getting veggies in while camping can be quite difficult. I learned so much on this trip and need to keep reminding myself to just listen to my body. It knows exactly what it needs!

  15. Can't believe it has been 6 months since I was sleeved I am now down a total of 86 lbs since I began the 2 week liquid diet so 74 lbs since the day of surgery. I am down for a grand total of 81 3/4 inches! Talk about a LOT of inches lost off this body! I am now 4.8 lbs from goal but really I am fine with my weight. Though according to the BMI scale I am still overweight, I so happen to think that scale is stupid ha! I am not pushing to lose that last bit but not preventing it either, my weight is still coming off pretty nicely. Last week alone I had a huge drop and lost 4.2 lbs, this week I lost 1 lb. So my sleeve is absolutely still working. I have had so many NSVs lately from people guessing my weight to be 115-125 lbs, which is beyond me since I am at 154 lol, I was always good at hiding my weight though at the lower weights so I guess that is a plus I had someone FINALLY tell me my ID card looked nothing like me YAY! She remembered me fat and kept looking at me like something was wrong, finally she said I must have lost a ton of weight and even called over one of the other receptionists to come look at me lol. I finally hit my size goal too, well at least at Old Navy, I have yet to try elsewhere but I can comfortably wear a size 8 now and generally medium shirts, occasionally a small or large, depending on the brand. Dresses are medium to large now too. I am still dealing with some complications, I still have pain at the top of my sleeve, especially in the morning. Still taking 2 nexiums and 1 zantac a day to try to control the pain from the heartburn I now have. Lately I have been seriously restricted, I am sure it is from stress, it's a struggle to drink Water, let alone food and I am full within 2-3 bites of anything right now but this shall pass hopefully soon. I will be seeing a surgeon today so not sure if he will want to scope me again or just let it go and see if it goes away. I suspect my labs are off too, specifically my Iron given how I am feeling. I will be seeing a plastic surgeon too, I was told I needed a panniculectomy (sp?) long before I considered weight loss surgery and it is absolutely needed still, my poor stomach is destroyed and I still carry a large amount of fat there. I am also looking into a breast augmentation too, they are long gone LOL! All in all I am still very pleased with my sleeve and glad I went through with it Don't mind the crummy pics, I had to use my webcam.

    Nsv!!

Congratulations! Btw most of the old Navys discontinued the sale of plus sizes in store but they do still take the returns in store from online  So if you wanna reorder something just take it in for credit, get a smaller size, and work towards that size You're doing awesome with your weight loss and it's always a wonderful NSV when you hit milestones in clothing sizes! Keep up the great work!
  17. Hey, Bandsters! Now that Memorial Day has passed and we’re well into June, it’s summer time! Why not use the warm weather and casual dress code for motivation to stick to your diet? Of course, the newsletter’s a great way to remind you to be good, too! We keep you updated on what’s going on at LapBandTalk.com, and we’ll jump right into this newsletter with: Alex Brecher, founder of LapBandTalk.com! Kosher bandsters…and way more. These groups are smaller discussion forums for bandsters who have a lot of things in common with you even beyond your lap-band. They may have great solutions to problems that you’re having, and they can be super sympathetic to your situation. You can make close friends on these boards because you already have so much in common, and because you can spend a lot more “one-on-one” time with them. Come on over to the food or recipe. It’s pretty simple. Come up with a new recipe or try a new food that fits on your diet. Tell us about it! Recognize your non-scale victory (NSV): An NSV is something that is an accomplishment during your lap-band journey, but it isn’t based on the number on the scale. It might be something like fitting into a dress you like or being able to keep up with your grandchildren without getting tired. It’s never too late to try the old challenges and write about them. Share what you come up with to brag a little and help out others. The New Challenge: Be an Exercise Buddy! This challenge is great for your health and the health of a lucky new or old friend. Why? Over the next two weeks, your challenge is to do a workout with a new person. Some ideas for the challenge are to: Ask your neighbor to take a walk with you Ask someone at your gym to be your partner while you both lift weights Go for a bike ride with your kids or spouse Take a new exercise class Be creative! The goal is to do something fun and healthy, and maybe make a new friend or two along the way. Don’t forget to post your challenge results in the Challenge Forum. The forum’s also great place to go if you need ideas or have advice for other Bandsters. Good luck! And Finally: We Need Your Help! We’d like to ask you to support us when you can. Hopefully you value LapBandTalk.com and all of its free services. We’d like to remind you to please ask your surgeon and other healthcare providers to post LapBandTalk.com fliers in their offices. The fliers are all ready to be printed in black and white or color. We’re always growing, and you can help. Thank you. That does it for this newsletter. Thanks for reading and for your continued participation on the boards. Take care! Sincerely, Alex ============================================================== If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, you may unsubscribe by going to your Control Panel and clicking on the Newsletters tab, or clicking on the following link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=newsletter

23 pounds in 2 months is very good loss in my opinion. You should average 1-2 pounds a week and that sounds right on track. Are you exercising? Are you taking measurements? Sometimes you stall for a few weeks and the loss begins again. Find other NSVs(non-scale victories) to keep you motivated. Some NSVs are getting off of certain medications, being able to wear a piece of clothing that hasn't fit in awhile, being able to climb stairs without stopping to catch your breath, etc. You get the idea. Sometimes it takes a few fills to get where you'd like to be restriction wise. Make sure you keep following all the banster rules, don't drink your calories and hopefully the weight loss will start up again. Hang in there and best of luck to you!

    Port/Scar moved???

HA! Mine did the same thing. The more you lose the lower things go, including scars. A friend of mine was banded a couple of weeks ago and I commented to the doc that her scars are soooo much higher than mine. He smiled and said mine used to be that high too. ;o) It's a good thing, consider it a NSV~

  21. I have a black tie event to attend on Nov. 12th and I brought my dress (bought in the summer) to be altered since it takes a couple weeks for alternations. The dress had to be taken in 5 inches!! The seamstress said,"Lady, you should have bought 2 sizes smaller". Super excited. I'm having them alter it tight so it will still fit in a couple weeks. Yay!
  22. Life is fun and fab these days!! I am well into the wonderland club. 194!! I am running and feeling good with my size 12 skirt from NY & co skirt I wore today. Anyway, my sister was initiated into my sorority today. And that requires me to wear the dreaded evil pantyhose. Well!!! I purchased regular stockings. I did not have to play the 45 minute wiggle game only to get them half way up my butt! I slide them on with easy no busting out or huge run when I try to sit down. . In the past, that sound that pantyhose produce when you are walking makes me feel like I'm gonna start a forest fire. (guys! It's comparable to nails on a chalkboard)
  23. Ok I know I posted about it on my status thingy but I wanted a post too! Anyway I work at a school for emotionally disturbed children. I absolutely LOVE what I do. But it can be hard at times. I hear "fat B*tch* pretty often. But, I'm rather used to it.. and don't let it get to me. I have been wondering lately if any of the kids have noticed my weight loss. I mean everyone else is ALWAYS commenting on it.. so Yeah. Today I'm sitting in my area with a student who is waiting on his bus. We start talking. Him: Can I ask you a question? Me: Sure! Him: Have you lost weight? Me: (unsure what to say!) Does it look like it?! Him: Yes, so did YOU?! lol. I just loved it! YAY! Plus both my brothers have now commented on my weight loss. telling me I look great. this is HUGE for me because I have ALWAYS been so much bigger than them

    a turtle?

Lianna, I have no idea what I can tell you to help you to jump start your weightloss. I wish I could, really I do, but I'm trying to work it out myself. I know one thing though. I personally cannot stress enought the importance of tracking your NSVs, your non-scale victories. The scale really only gives one dimention of your journey. It's like trying to describe a beautiful sunset, but you only have one color in your paint box. Please, if you haven't started it now, start your NSV list. If you really are a Turtle, you will need that NSV list to keep you motivated. Mine is the only thing that reminds me where I'm going, but more importatly, where I've been.

    NSV - Reunion

Saturday I went to a reunion of girls from my High School that I graduated with WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in 1968. (I know, scarey right?) I bought a black pants suit with pin stripes and wore a tank top under it, and new high heels (which I am just getting back into wearing since I'm not carrying the extra 70 pounds on my body). I thought I looked decent. Well, there were about 60 women there and the majority of them said they would recognize me anywhere since I look alot like I did in high school. I was flying high all day! I felt great. So many people told me how good I looked. If it wasn't for my band I would have never experienced this. BTW the last High School reunion was back in Sept. 2003 and I didn't go to it because it was 4 days after I had my band surgery. I wouldn't have gone anyway the way I looked back then.
