    at newark airport

I am sure u did I did research on Dr. Venzuela and Dr. Cabrera and thy seemed to be great and know what they where doing. I had a friend also that also used them as their surgeon and he ha lost already 80 pounds in 10 months so I decided to go ahead and go with them. I was sleeved on 2/25/2013 and I had very lil discomfort and every thing went smooth. I am sure Ur in good hands I have always been told Mexico had better surgeons that the USA cause they practice and have done theses types of surgery more than the USA has.

    February 25 anyone?

Hi!! I'm good!! My surgery was moved to 12:30... Then an emergency came in earlier and he had to operate on her. (Who is my room mate from hell!) lucky me! Ha So I went in at 4:15 and woke up at 6:26pm. In my room by 8:30. Because of my room mate I was up walking around to get away from her so I slept maybe 2 hours! But all is good! Going for my dye test around 9/10 ish.

    Please analyze my stall

As many will tell you hang in there you are doing great. With such a quick weight loss your body is adjusting. I too lose weight and then gain a little. I know it is frustrating but I have kind of gotten used to it. The last couple of days I upped my cardio by only 10 minutes and this morning lost 1.5 pounds! It could be a coincidence but who knows. As long as you are eating right/water and vitamins the weight will come off! Sleep is important too so make sure you are getting enough. I also eat a little more some days to see if this may jolt my system; they say this shakes up your metabolism. Congrats on your weight loss you can and will do it!!

I'm at a weight stand still.

Eat breakfast - even if it's a protein shake. Make sure you're getting protein in your soup or salad at lunch and add some fruit, too. Also keep in mind that for every 10 pounds you lose, you need 150 fewer calories to maintain that weight.

    Any one Banded & Pregnant?

Hi! Gaut, I am banded since Aug/06 and pregnant. You don't have to wait years until you start trying for a baby. I am currently about 10 wks into my pregnancy, and I just had my first defill. I was at 9.5 cc and now I am at 9. I haven't had morning sickness with this pregnancy, and I don't think I will. (I just had my first lunch and dinner at this new restriction today and boy can I eat way more than yesterday.) I have a 2 year old, in daycare, so I've had the stomach flu about 3 times since being banded. Infact I just got over it yesterday. You feel pressure when your vomitting but, it is ok. Thinking about it, and worrying is worse then the episodes. I do know another pregnant bandster who had such terrible morning sickness that her band twisted. So you can have complications. As soon as you are pregnant I would talk to your clinic. If you don't have morning sickness you can go in for your defills as you feel you need them. If you do have morning sickness, you may want to completely defill. It is a choice only you and your Dr. can make together. You may be wondering, when do you know you can start trying? For me, I had my pregnancy target weight of 165 lbs. Regardless even before my surgery we were going to start trying May 2007, so if I didn't make my target by then I was still going to try anyway. I was 152 lbs by May 2007. (I have lost 75 lbs since being banded.) I hope this helps.

How do you balance your social life?

Just order the appetizers. They come in smaller portions & better then ordering a BIG meal. People snack on appetizers so this will allow you to pick & in between conversation you can enjoy yourself as well. This is what I do. I've been banded since 12/22/10 with revision of a new band on 2/11/14. 109.2 lbs gone. Loving Me some Me

    Its an ulcer!

My MGB was October 10 and I was rushed into emergency surgery on the 14th. I had a bleeding ulcer, hernia and tumor but I am doing better each day. Sent from my SM-P550 using the BariatricPal App
  8. I was banded on 7/3 also at Crown Point, the nurses there were great, it is a new facility, and not very far from my house. Dr. Kirshenbaum is fantastic, two days after my surgery (Saturday am) I had a question, called his cell phone and he returned the call almost before I got sat back down. I had a list of questions that I had taken with me to my first appt., he was very informative, patient, and didn't rush thru everything. His staff is also very friendly. Is your consultation and surgery on 10/22? Good luck with your trip and surgery. Let us know how things go.

    Pedicure?

Cool! I never get manicures (they last about 10 minutes before I screw them up), so I should be fine, then.

    Rant/Vent about Insurance

I'm a lawyer practicing insurance law, so get all about exclusions. There is no experimental carve out in my policy. And, at this point, stretta shouldn't be considered experimental as its well accepted in the medical community and has been shown to be a viable fix for GERD for close to 10 years. What bothers me the most is that they insurance company is forcing me into a potentially life-altering procedure when there's an available fix with little to no risk. Penny wise, dollar foolish. I'm planning on paying for the procedure, but will not abandon my appeal with the Department of Insurance because I'm hoping that by appealing, I can do my part to make this procedure more readily available.

  15. I'm almost 3 months post op and I have stomach flu. This is TERRIBLE. I haven't had the stomach flu in 10 or so years. The vomiting and diarrhea is just awful. I went to dr. They have me some meds. Does anyone have any "go to" beverages? I cannot handle Water. I don't want to do tea bc of the caffeine. I have been drinking Powerade zero as much as possible and had some diet ginger ale. I went from nauseated to now cramping--- probably bc of all the meds and this is so rough on my tummy. Is there anything that helped you guys ever? I'm desperate and miserable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Looking for advice

well mine is worse then the rest of u, i had my band on march 23rd also, and I have to have 4 weeks of clear liquids, plus protein shakes...i was already on a 10 day liquid diet before surgery..Im actually glad he did put me on all these liquids, i dont miss food at all so far..i cant believe it either, im just in a different routine now..so like everyone says every Dr. is totally diferent, i do get to start mushies in 4 weeks thou..kinda excited to experiment with my magic bullet a little..
  17. You can drink as much as you want. It goes right through... you may not WANT 3 cups at a time though. But yea you need to drink 64oz a day, so drink away I spend about 10-15 minutes on dinner. It depends on your tightness and how your band reacts... But you need to eat smaller bites.. it's more about tricking your brain into being satisfied with the small amount of food. Also for some people if you eat too fat it gets stuck and you puke it right back up. I can feel my port if I touch it.. but doesn't really feel like anything inside me. You can vomit, I don't see why it'd hurt anymore than usual.. Unless it's during the first few days when you are healing. OF course you get more energy when you lose weight I can eat pasta, some people can't.. but it's not great for you, and it has a lot of calories, and you can't eat very much it, so I usually just don't have it... or whole wheat that has Protein in it is a better option.
  18. I had my Lapband surgery this morning:-) I am a huge baby when it comes to pain, so I thought I'd be miserable, but I feel good! Every hour I'm feeling better and better. I have few gas pains, sleep often, and walk every hour or so for a few minutes. The worst was that I had to be pricked 10 times for an IV, because they could not find my veins! I also woke up very sick to my stomach ( I am very sensitive and get nauseous easily) but now feel great and i have had chicken broth and an ice pop, although I was not hungry- just thirsty! My family is eating chicken and although it smells great, I am surprised I have no desire to eat it. I was definitely fearful of this diet bc I love eating and cooking ( as we all do I'm sure) ! Anyway I am new to this and just looking for some support to assist me on this journey! It's an exciting time in my life as I am graduating from grad school next month

    Feeling "OFF" today...

I cannot say anything about post-op, because my surgery is not until Dec.2, but I sure can about now. I am being weined off my antidepressant Celexa and boy did I have a few off days this past Sat-Tues. I will not go completely off my Celexa today as was planned. Now I will go down to 10 mg for the next 6 days, then I will have to go off completely the day of surgery until the doctor says I can go back on it. I was on 60 mg until the pre-op diet. They want patients to get weaned off of it so that the withdrawal will not cause complications or they won't be so severe if there is any. I guess right after surgery it is too difficult to swallow pills for a little while. I hope I don't have to stay off of mine very long. When had those off days I was on 20 mg a day, so I know that it is probably the effects of it being reduced from 60. If you are on any medications, have they let you start them again. I wish you all the best.
  20. So I have been lurking on this forum for a while. I have 1 month left to go on my 6 consecutive doctors appointments. Already have my psych eval, blood work,EKG, and chest X-ray. My first appointment with the surgeon is April 10th after that all I will need is my nutrition class. Then they will send for approval with my insurance, they said most probably I will have a surgery date sometime near the first of May! My question is this for my insurance to cover the sleeve I need a bmi of at least 50 my bmi is 49.9! Doctors office did not tell me to gain weight however they did say the bmi is calculated on your first appointment with the surgeon. So do I gain the weight? Put rolls of quarters in my pockets? Will they deny me because I have been maintaining and sometimes dropping 2-3 pounds a month on my regular 6 month appointments then suddenly gaining 5-10 pounds right at the end? I am so torn! I am scared to death of rny and the band I really want a sleeve! Advice please!

    Initial Consultation Questions

I had no drain and no catheter. I did have to administer blood thinner shots (Lovenox) for 10 days after surgery. Other topics they will probably cover with you include: What pre-op diet is required, and for how many days? If the pre-op diet is to include Protein shakes (and most do) what brands are acceptable? What are the post-op diet requirements? e.g., What will you be allowed to have while in the hospital, and when will you be progressing to the next stage, and the next? If there is a post-op diet stage that calls for full liquids (and there probably will be) what constitutes full liquids? My doc/NUT said it's anything that would go through a straw, but they didn't want post-op patients using a straw. What restrictions will there be on lifting, and for how long? My surgeon's office had most of this written out in a booklet for their new patients. Good luck!

    1 Week Post Op

My gastric was on 01/11/12 so we aren't that far apart date wise just a couple weeks! I too was feeling very weak on the full liquid diet and was extremely happy once I was able to start on the mushy stage! I had a question for you when you 1st started on the mushy foods did you have any kind of pain at all in your stomach like it felt like your stomach was heavy, I every now and then will get a pain in mine and I don't know if it's because it's telling me my stomach is full or if something is wrong so I was wondering if you've experienced the same thing!
  25. Hey all, I'm just about 10 weeks post-op and doing extremely well. A few of you have even gone out of your way to send me private notes of encouragement, kudos, and well-wishes. This means a lot to me, so thank you for that! I wanted to find out from you about your experiences with sleep post-surgery. I would say that before surgery I probably did have bouts of sleep apnea, though I never got tested for it or diagnosed with it. (Wife used to tell me I'd stop breathing in the middle of the night in between loud snoring, though...) Despite this, I was able to function pretty well on about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes I'd even get 7 or 8 hours of sleep and be ok too. Now, post-operatively, I have found that it seems like I can never get enough sleep, and I have a real hard time getting out of bed in the morning. Any sign I had of the apnea went away shortly after surgery, so I know it isn't that. I have been getting 8 hours of sleep at a minimum and often find myself hitting the snooze button and even coming in to work late because I grab more sleep where I can. It's frustrating. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it ever change or return to normal? What causes this? Theories? Ideas? Suggestions? I hope all is well with you in your respective journeys, I'm humbled to be fighting the good fight alongside all of you and value your input. Cheers, ~Pat
