    What do you eat after 6 weeks post op!

    I'm also about 6 weeks out! I was sleeved on Feb. 10. I was cleared for all foods after 40 days. The guidance I got was to try to introduce foods one at a time, so I can tell if I can tolerate them. So far I have not had any trouble. I use MyFitnessPal to track; my goal is at least 60 gs of protein per day. Some days I'm great, some days I struggle a bit, so I am adjusting my meals to make sure I comfortably hit 60 or more. Here is a couple of my immediate past days: Tues: egg fried with cooking spray with leftover spinach on top, 2 turkey sausage links; mid-morning: protein drink (20g protein); lunch: 2 oz. tuna with mayo made with olive oil and 1/2 serving high protein cheese snacks; Mid afternoon Chicken Bone Broth; Dinner: 1 and a half ground beef meatballs; with diced tomatoes and 1 tbl. grated parmesian and 1/2 cup spaghetti squash. After dinner snack: handful of mixed nuts and a sugar free hot choc. Wed: Breakfast: Iconic protein powder with 2 oz. Premier protein drink added; mid-morning: hard boiled egg; Lunch: 2 slices deli turkey with 2 tbl. reduced fat cheddar and 1/4 of Granny Smith Apple used to make roll ups; mid afternoon: 1/2 serving of high protein cheese snacks and about 10 green grapes; Dinner: 1 link Italian Turkey Sausage cooked in diced tomatoes, spinach and cauliflower crumbles (about 1/4 cup of sauce) and 1/2 c. left over spaghetti squash; after dinner: handful of nuts and a sugar free popsicle. What I am not eating: pasta, bread, potatoes, rice. I also have not added in butter or oils, I am cooking without them mostly. I have made some soups and tried to punch up the protein; I made some split pea soup in the slow cooker and added some protein powder to punch it up. I also was eating a lot of fish, but we have not been to the grocery store in the last few days so I don't have any fresh fish right now, and I just don't care for frozen fish. I did pick up some frozen shrimp last time I was there and will make a shrimp salad one of these days. One of the nutritionists at my facility told me protein, protein, protein. She also said to be successful long term you need to find protein rich foods that you LIKE and that fit in your lifestyle, otherwise you will feel deprived/burdened and that is when you are likely to fill up on the wrong things.     Here I go again My Favorit post So lets just say MATH THIS AND MAKE IT FACTUAL So you are lossing about 20 pounds a month. March 3-26 So In 3 months you will lose about 60 In Six months 120 in one year 240 in 10 years 2400 STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF ALL THE TIME! This is a journey to get healthy not a sprint to lose weight. Enjoy it and yes you are doing well

    I think you're doing well! I also revised from sleeve to bypass a week before you did, and I've only lost 10 pounds in three weeks. But I'm not worried. I feel good (except for the constipation (!)), have a lot of energy, and can see the difference in my face, my collarbones (they've magically re-appeared!), and the way my clothes fit. Next week will time for my monthly measurements, so I'm sure I'll see a lot of progress there too. As for food, I can also eat about 1/2 cup of food, but unless it's a puree or liquid (like soup), I'm trying to make it less than that in one serving. I've been on soft foods for the past week, so I'm much more conscious of what I'm eating and how it will affect me. So far, so good - no issues with anything I've tried.

    I think 16 pounds is great for three weeks! I've only lost 10 since my surgery on the same day, but I'm not worried about it. I was looking at my weight loss averages from when I had the sleeve 3 years ago and I averaged between 7-15 pounds per month (I was about the same weight you were at starting weight). That, combined with my pre-op weight loss (22 pounds), meant that by November (10 months out) I had lost 100 pounds. I still wasn't at goal weight then, but I was happy with my progress. Of course, after that, I derailed, but that's another story. Remember, you probably didn't gain 100+ pounds in 6 months, you are unlikely to lose that much in the same amount of time. Some people do, but they are either male (tend to lose weight faster), or started at a higher weight, or are genetically pre-disposed to lose weight faster than others.
  5. Hi all, Just checking in. I'm slowly pushing along. I'm down to 194 and wearing size 12 pants and med/leg tops. The weigh is slowly coming off but at least the scale is moving. I've been working from home the last month which I haven't been getting my usual excercise in. I miss the stairs at work. I've been cooped up in my house it seems like forever. I have asthma really bad and cannot risk getting sick. Hope every one is doing great.   6. I think this can be a slippery slope. Too many people think of themselves as "failures" because they don't manage to reach and/or maintain a normal BMI but "only" a BMI of maybe 27 or 28 and are therefore not happy with what they've accomplished. They only focus on "these last 10 lbs" and make themselves miserable, sometimes almost completely ignoring (or so it seems) the fact that they've maybe lost over 100 lbs. They cry a river over the fact that they "gained 15 lbs back" despite having lost 150 lbs and now maintain a weight loss of 135 lbs, again feeling like failures. It makes me sad how people sometimes sabotage themselves this way. And yes, I believe that this is some kind of self-sabotage, too - they're self-sabotaging in regards to "being happy".
  7. This is an interesting question, because I thought I'd finished losing weight after 19 months. However, I recently had to do another liver-shrinking diet in anticipation of another operation (subsequently cancelled). I had to diet for 5 days and lost 4 lbs. I ate about 600-800 calories a day. I was surprised that I could manage this and it made me think I could use this again in the future....I could lose weight for 5 days, then just carry on maintaining my weight the rest of the time. Hmmmm….could work!

OP for more than 10 years ago - now all of a sudden, my stomach/intestine "rumbles and roars" - so I can't attend any meetings without attracting unwanted attention I expected this shortly after the OP - but hasn't done that before. have anyone experience this, and know what to do in order to quiet down the stomach? (I haven't made a shift in my diet or anything similar)
  9. I had surgery 10 years ago...so things and protein drinks may have changed. I could not tolerate the protein drinks. I get so ill from anything with any kind of sugar substitute. I sill have to read labels like crazy because flavored yogurts, and any "diet" sweets will make me very very sick. Read labels and see what is in there and try different protein drinks.

    I had my sleeve done in Feb 2017, but after the first year where I lost 100 pounds, I regained about 60. I tried doing pouch resets but they didn't last. I could eat a full plate of food, not as much as I once did (because let's be honest, I probably could eat 2 plates of food), but certainly a lot more than anyone who had had the sleeve should have been able to eat - the restriction was really not there for me. So just over 3 weeks ago I had a revision to RNY (long-limbed). My surgeon and I discussed the possibilities and this was his recommendation based on his experience as a surgeon: People who re-sleeved had the lowest amount of weight loss after a revision People who had a mini gastric bypass (which basically keeps the sleeve but adds a long-limbed bypass - usually about 100-150cm) do great in terms of weight loss, but at least 10% will suffer from GERD afterwards, which will require another surgery People who revised from sleeve to a standard RNY (which is a short-limbed bypass) didn't lose as much weight overall with that procedure People who revised from sleeve to a standard RNY but with a long-limbed bypass did the best with weight-loss and without the complications of developing GERD. So I went with this option (not only because of this, but because of other gastro-intestinal issues I have). In any event, I would talk to your surgeon about what you want to achieve and what is the best option for you, your sleeve, and what your own particular health needs are.
  11. Just posted this a week ago, You can blow past your doctors guess and reach any healthy weight. Mix up your calorie intake One day go 1000 next go 500. Also Fasting works do a 10 hour fast then eat healthy then go to bed and fast another 8 while sleeping, You have to trick your body back into burning instead of storing. Its rather easy to do- For me the fasting broke it loose again.

    How did you know that you were done losing?

    I know when i got the band my body stopped losing at 143. I am 5'2" and my SW was 232#. There i stayed for 7+ years. Until i had to get her out 3 years ago in 2017. Over the last few years, i put back 30#. I decided to do a revision and got sleeved 8/28/19. SW 173.5, today 129. My weight loss is slowing and currently only losing about a pound a month. Your body will definitely decide on where it wants to be. But, you have to be doing everything you can to make sure you are doing your part. Continue to portion out your food and exercise. You will benefit greatly from logging in and weighting/portioning what you eat. Exercising in a different way will help also. If you simply cut back your cal to 1000 per day and up your exercise... you will start to lose again.
  13. I absolutely understand the disappointment und frustration all of you must feel. I also think it's important to talk about this and no, maybe coming across "a bit selfish" doesn't matter. Come across as "selfish" as you like. Whenever the disappointment and frustration hits and you're all like "F*ck this damn virus!!", maybe you could remember some things: - your surgery is postponed, not cancelled. - you wouldn't want to be in a hospital now or in a few weeks down the road if you can help it. - ICU capacity is limited and every surgery has the potential to bring on the need for being on the ICU. You don't want to need a bed on the ICU during the next weeks because there might be none available the moment you need it. - you don't want to be in immediate recovery from abdominal surgery as long as COVID-19 runs rampant. My revision is 4 weeks ago now, the fixing of a hernia only a week and I'm asking myself if my immune system is already as competent as it usually is - not a fun thing to ask yourself these days. When feeling all of this completely understandable frustration and disappointment maybe try to remember that WLS is always abdominal surgery including general anesthesia with lots of complications being possible and not a quick and unproblematic surgery so many patient's recovery is really easy from. I'm absolutely sure that all people on this thread are completely aware of the things I wrote above. However, it can be hard to remember when disappointment and frustration hits. Hang in there! Your surgery is postponed, not cancelled.

    10 years out From Sleeve

    Soo. I started my weight loss journey over 10 years ago. I am 5'2" I had surgery and was, if I remember correctly about 320 pounds. (and I had lost weight before surgery..) I was 54 years old. I lost over 100 pounds. I got down to 180 pounds. I could never get lower than that. But my doctors were pleased and so was I. Over 10 years I managed to gain weight and this past July, got mad at myself when I realized I weighed 220 !!!! I told myself that I needed to reverse the trend, and get back to a healthier weight. My initial goal was to lose 10 pounds in a year. Well, I lost 10 pounds in 4 months and then lost another 12 in the last 4 months, and for the first time in about 6 years am just under that 200 pound weight at 198. ( I will claim those last 2 pounds ! ) I refuse to do any drastic dieting, just "going back to my sleeve eating." More protein, less carbs, more vegetables. occasional treats. Cut out the popcorn and chips which are my slider foods.... and although I really cannot exercise with my other physical issues, I am moving more and feeling better. I would be happy to be in the mid 190's for this coming July - but focusing more on making sure I don't backslide again.... I am posting because .... well, how do you explain to anyone that you have already lost over 140 pounds and gained back 40, and now have lost 20... 10 years later and it's all connected ? And at my age, no one really notices.... although I did go buy new jeans/slacks for work because darn it, I didn't keep the smaller clothing !!! Anyone else as far out as I am ? Having issues ? Getting back on track this late in the game ?
  15. I had RNY in 2015. I had great results - i started at 254 and had been holding steady at around 128 . I was very pleased where I was. Last fall, I became very ill, not holding anything down. I dropped to 117 and was in and out of hospital and they couldn’t find anything wrong with me. I called my RNY surgeon and asked her to look through my recent test results to see if she could find something other doctors were missing. She said all test looked good, but, suggested i see a digestive disorder specialist who they share a clinic with. I saw the digestive disorder dr and through some test, found that I had a bought with gastroparesis. Finally, a diagnosis and because of diagnosis, they were able to begin treatment. They have some meds that worked and i was, finally, able to start holding food down. As I started holding food down, I started rapidly gaining weight. So, the 10- 12 pounds I lost from being sick was gained back in less than a week. A little startling, but, figure it must’ve been water weight and I’m right back to the weight I started at. But, I continued to gain and gain. In 2 months, I gained atleast 30 pounds. I’m afraid to get on scale to see exactly how much I gained. But, I did stop gaining and have been holding steady for about 2 months. But, I am very unhappy at the weight I’ve gained. I hardly have any clothes that fit me now and I don’t want to buy new ones because I don’t wasn’t to be this weight. So, my question pertains to gastroparesis AFTER RNY. I know Rny is recommended to treat gastroparesis, but, has anyone heard of it after Rny - I never had any symptoms of gastroparesis in my life. Then with the rapid weight gain. Do you think it’s possible that all the vomiting I did, stretched my stomach or the food sitting in my stomach stretched it or some other side affects? I just don’t know what to think. I do know that I can eat a lot more than I had before the gastroparesis. I can’t make an appointment with my surgeon until all this coronavirus stuff passes since this is not life sustaining, at this point. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am afraid I’m falling into depression over this weight gain. I’m very unhappy and embarrassed.
  16. Had my surgery on March 3. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to have gastric bypass surgery before elective procedures have been put on hold because of COVID-19. I’m quite relieved.
  17. I am 10 months PO. Haven't lost weight in a month or two. I don't know if I am done losing or if I need to dial in my eating more. I get around 1000-1200 Cal's a day 60g protien and 30g of sugar. I try to shoot much lower for sugar than that, but that's just an average. I've lost 96 lbs total but would like to lose 20 more.

    RE Trapped Gas - Just FYI

    I had surgery on 3/10/2020. When I got home, I was so miserable, because of awful gas pains. I tried everything, but I did not get any relief until I warmed a bottle of ProtienN20 in a cup in the microwave, added 2 Celestial teabags, stirred and sipped very slowly. Heat makes gas rise, so I started burping, slowly but I finally began to get some pain releasing relief. Also, I started passing gas, which was, so awesome. I drink this every morning. Hope this helps

    Have you contacted your insurance company or looked in your benefits guide? I have ChampVA and in my benefits guide there is information on revisional surgery that indicates if you are not within 10% of your goal weight.... however I am sure it is more to it than that lol. I remember reading a while ago that someone asked their doctor to perform an endoscopy or something to see the size of the stomach because the restriction was not existent after surgery. Are you feeling restriction and just not losing or no restriction and not losing? If doctor isn’t willing to help I would seek a second opinion as well.
  20. I have no idea! I had/have problems with my slimband and I wanted to contact my slimband clinic here in Toronto and learned they closed down because their malpractice! I started to do research about it and that's when I saw an article about butchered slimbands and this Women's College Hospital's doctor who removes slimbands! I will send you this website to read the article: https://www.rcinet.ca/en/2018/01/12/gastric-band-bleeding-pain-cbc-marketplace/. It doesn't say anything about charging money, but I am just wondering if somebody would be in a life threatening situation and would have no money for the surgery than they would let that person to die?! I see so many people here with slimband problems and will be more and more in the future and somehow I do not see how we would get any help from anywhere!
  21. I received this today from Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. All elective surgeries are postponed until after 4/10/20. Our directors are reassessing this timeline every day since things are changing very quickly. As of now you are still scheduled for 4/15/20, but if that changes our schedulers will be reaching out to as soon as we can. I think I'd be more comfortable waiting at this point anyway.

    I would love to know if insurance covers revisions and what circumstances, if any, this is the case...I have searched my heart out and can’t find any answers in forums-feel I may need an evaluation to consider revision or *something* to address my October 13th ‘19 sleeve with current weight loss(3/24) of only 15lbs post surgery...I am devastated

  24. For all of you who have seen me post I am bat poop crazy about vitamins and supplements. However i struggled big time with this and had to self teach myself. What i kept finding out with every blood test is this, No matter what you take every week will be different, Mainly because your body uses them differently. The big thing is the whole foods you eat along with the vitamins! However this may apply more to males - I hate veggies and fruit, Love the protein, love the shakes, I must get 10 PMs a week form here asking for help. So doing this post. If you look at all my past posts you will see many posts on this. Today I got a PM from here with a poor guy that is so damm confused 3 weeks post op I had to get his email addy to help him. I am not a long time WLS member but there are a ton here. This is a simple outline of my Vit and Mineral Plan Morning - Mulit Vitamin (Fusion) and Protien shake with GNC 50 powder Late Morning- Juice Plus Bar Lunch - Some sort of animal, GNC Mulit Vitamin and Juice plus chewable Early afternoon - Trail mix, and protien bar or juice plus bar Dinner - Healthy balanced meal Bed time - Juice plus capsule and Fusion chewable I Currently use Core Fitness thanx to Jake on this site, and Amazon for all my other products and http://ad98557.juiceplus.com Watch these Videos on this site, It is the closest thing to a post WLS plan. Great information on there! Now Do it and educate youself. Ya they are promoting there products but the information is great I became a member to the Juiceplus group after meeting one of our members here who swore by it, and I was so dang confused post op, These llittle veggie capsules do really help in the blood work game. FYI i do not get paid by any of above But after going thru a billion dollars in crap products this is what i used and most i currently are using
