    Weight Gain

Congrats on your success so far... Contact your team that handled your surgery if possible and form a plan. Return to nutritional visit if you can, support group if available, then pull out your binder /original plan and see where you are. While at a support group a few weeks ago the topic was regain and how to manage it, these were some of the questions the NUT told everyone to pay attention to if fighting regain: How far have you drifted? What was the original weight goal (realistically)? Did you change anything to cause the weight gain? Any life changes (health, job, relationships, etc)? Can you go back to basics (protein and vegetables only to test for weight loss ) or reset for a week? What is your protein intake? What is your vegetables /fruit intake? What is your carb intake? Do you have hidden calories (too much sugars, carbs, condiments, slider foods) ? Are you drinking your calories ( juice, soda alcohol) ? What is your Water/zero cal fluid intake ? Safe journey again! So Frustrated!

Hi guys, I don't post much on here but I read everything. I was banded June 28 of 2011. My starting weight was 262 and I know weigh 208. My frustration comes in here. I have not lost anything in almost 3 weeks. Nothing at all. I have fluxuated from 209 to 207. I am at a loss because I really don't feel like I need a fill. I have restriction I just can't lose. I don't know how to change it up at this point. I am really at a loss. I went back to my protein shakes thinking that would help me out. I am not a great exerciser and I know that will help. Other then that can someone help me try to kick it up again. Also my hubby thinks its because I am not getting enough calories. My dr. was not big on caloric intake just protein. I am not able to get much over 600 to 700 calories a day. Please give me some pointers. Thank you

    Fills....

You get your fills from the doc who did your surgery. When you see that they have to travel it is becasue most of us went to Mexico and live elsewhere so we travel back to Mexico for our fills. As far as when you get your fills , everyone is so different. I have had 2 fills in 5 months. You need a fill when you have not lost any weight in 3 consecutive weeks (following all the bandster rules) Every ones fill level is different also. And going in for an unfill only happens when you are filled to tight.

    BC/BS of Georgia

:Bunny :Bunny Hello everyone. I am begining my journey of exploring lapband surgery as a weight loss tool to improve my health as well as my self esteem. I am concerned over the insurance process all together. I was wondering if anyone had any success receiving funding from BC/BS? Thanks:Bunny
  5. Yes, I have the Lap Band. I didn't have many health issues, just PCOS and I have been off my Metformin since surgery and all of my PCOS symptoms have improved most have disappeared. I go to see my Endo in November for bloodwork to make sure that my PCOS is in remission. I also had back and knee pain that is gone now and I sleep more comfortably at night. I had mine done about four months ago and I am down 49 pounds and half way to my goal weight already. I have had no problems with the procedure. I was back to work within a week and feeling great within two weeks.

    I weigh in Thursday!

My insurance coordinator told me as well that it won't be a problem as long as there isn't a net gain.
  7. Your stomach takes awhile to heal. I suspect that at 12 days post-op, protein bars are way too soon. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th month that my nutritionist recommended them. I recommend you discuss this with your surgeons office or nutritionist. When you reach that stage, I would recommend Quest protein bars. These bars were good in that they had high protein, minimal sugar and also contained fiber. They also came in a lot of different flavors. The fiber is important because it helps with constipation that can become a problem towards the end of your weight loss phase.

    Regret?

It is also important to remember that bariatric surgery is not a magic weight loss solution. It is simply a tool to help keep you on the right path. Everybody is different. Everybody will have different results. Your body has gone through a huge change. Give it time to do it's thing. Just follow the program and it will happen! It WILL happen! Don't get discouraged. Don't worry about it. Just do it! Good luck!
  9. Hi they go by your starting weights when you first go and starting BMI.

    Protein Shakes

The company's findings would be the last one's I would trust. Or you can contact the company directly Sorry, I didn't mean to curb your enthusiasm or derail the thread. Just wanted to interject a little food for thought. I actually hope the product is really effective for you. Heck, there is even data to show that substances can be effective if you believe in them enough, based on the placebo effect. And I'm for anything that gets the weight off.
  11. Hello! I know everyone is different, and I am not asking to compare anyone's weight loss, I am just looking at averages. How much did you lose on average each month for the first year? How much did you lose the first two weeks after surgery? I know this answer varies greatly, I am just looking at what individual experiences were like. Thanks!!

    How Much?

I gained 10 # during hospitalization (water weight from IV). Took me 2 weeks to get back to baseline. I lose from 1 to 3 # per week (and am 5 months out from surgery.
  13. Hey everyone.. I just got my surgery date for May 26th and I have to say Im super nervous and excited. My question is how did others tell their children that you would be away from home for 2 nights? My girl is 8 and my boy is 3 ... they both cling to me at bedtime so im really worried how this will impact them. I know its only 2 days but as a mom, they are my main concern! A nurse told me i shoudl tell my 8yr old that momma is going to the hospital to get help with my weight??? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks

    6 month diet quetion

It sounds like it would fulfill it, but the one thing that my surgeons office stressed was that the visits needed to be specifically about your weight. It couldn't be a visit about your bad back where your weight may have come as a topic. If you feel the visits were documented as such then I say go for it!!

    Anyone else?

@@khuuxo I am not sure how much weight you have to lose. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if it is a lot it is likely that your apron will only continue to drop. When I started this process I never thought I would consider having plastics and that I would be simply happy with the weight loss all by itself. For me, I lost 152lbs which is nearly what I weigh now. I call it the mudslide that happens when there is extreme weight loss. So, in July I happily met with plastic surgeons and decided I would need to do something. The mudslide has actually made my back issues that I had before surgery worse. So I started with a arm lift in July and was amazed at how much it helped my neck which is fused at 3 levels. Not to mention I got outstanding results cosmetically. In 12 days I will have a full abdominalplasty and breast lift because they are not where god intended them. I am doing this to get rid of all that loose skin and am actually hoping I get some relief on my low and mid back. My lumbar is also fused but most of my back pain is in my mid back. I guess I found that my journey wasn't complete simply after the weight loss. I simply gained a lot of confidence which not only fixed my inside but made me want to enter the second part of my journey which was getting rid of the loose skin. How much loose skin you end up with all depends on things like: how much you have to lose, genetics, age. I am guessing if you have gone through WLS chances are you have a considerable amount to lose? Best of luck to you as you continue your journey.

    JUNE 10, 2013, MY BEGINNING

You are going through the dreaded 3 week stall, do not worry it happens to most people. Everyone gets over it and goes on to lose more weight. One your journey you might have a few stalls, for some people they last days and for others weeks! They are frustrating but have patience and perseverance and you will be fine.
  17. My surgery is in 2 weeks and I'm just curious about how much weight everyone lost their first week post op! I know everyone is different but I'm just trying to get an average!
  18. Hi Everyone  I'm new to this site and so far it is soooo helpful. I currently have the band and I too have a lot of questions. Just want to clarify...when you say you get full really fast and once you are full that is it..done. So do you mean (sorry if this sounds really dumb) you can NOT eat another bite? If you do, do you get sick?? or do you just not want to or?? I find with the band that I over eat a lot. I don't plan on it, but I get full, then it seems to settle and I can eat more. Some days I can't eat much but other days you would never know there is a band in there.... I also thought I would be able to NOT drink when I eat...ummm yeah...not so much. Why is this one so hard for me..not sure. Can you drink when you eat with the sleeve? My biggest issue is this....if I could control my portions..I would never have reached my highest weight of 420. I thought I had done so much research before getting my band a year ago, but now I don't think I did enough. What I'm trying to find is a surgery that once I'm full I can't really eat anymore. I'm so afraid I have streached my stoma, pouch whatever it's called because I just seem to be able to eat too much...and sadly I can't seem to find the control I obviously need. At the same time I wonder...am I just being lazy? Have I not given this enough of a chance? Should I just keep getting fills and hope hope hope I find the sweet spot I keep hearing about? I mean I've been fat my whole life...obviously control is an issue with me..lol. I too am self pay and am thinking of a revision. I currently have had 5 fills I think in a year and I'm ready to make an appointment to try another. I now have 8cc's in a 10cc band. I've lost 70 lbs but have not lost an ounce since Christmas. I was actually down 78 but have gained 8 lbs since Christmas even after having more fills. I know I'm at fault because of my portions and I often make poor food choices because I'm sick of getting stuck. I have told very few people about my WLS and when I'm invited out to dinner and get stuck..I'm so sick of having to excuse myself, dash to the washroom to get sick . At the same time...is this my fault? Am I just doing this all wrong? Sighhhhh...I'm frustrated and don't want to make another mistake with the wrong revision...
  19. I finally have my first appointment scheduled for October 14. The doctor in my area is obviously very booked up and it has taken several months for them to schedule me. My primary care physician has been working with me for a year or more to get things done that my insurance requires, so hopefully the process will be smooth. I know I have a lot to learn and absorb. I am currently 320 lbs, 53 years old and I am diabetic, have sleep apnea and take medication for blood pressure and cholesterol. I just want to get my life back and stop being a slave to my weight and medication!:w00t:

    Well, that was interesting!

Blossom..WOW! you are one of the few who was alllowed chili's, fixin's and desserts just being 2 weeks post op.....Lucky you I was still on clear liquids at 2 weeks post op with a week of full liquids after that, then 2 weeks of mushy's and then I was on solids. I was told no food for 3 weeks so my band can set in place and I can heal because any food in my tummy would have to digest and the digestion process is such a grumblin, rumblin thing that I did not want to risk slippage since my band was not set into place and I was not healed al ltheway by having to digest any food prior to being 3 weeks post op..so interesting how every Dr. has different post op instructions, it varies so much between Dr.'s...Anyways. I tell everyone and anyone who asks how I have lost my weight..as a matter of fact one of my customers this morning asked me and I told her, she has all ready called Dr. Orti'z office...she said she has been watching me get smaller and smaller, she is overweight by about 80lbs..so for me, the more I can help and the more I can educate about the band..The better! That's just me though!

    9 month update. :-)

Thanks to everyone here who encouraged me and answered my many, many questions both before and after surgery. Because of you I knew what to expect and was prepared for things not covered in my workshops and nurse education class (like the 11 pounds gained from IV fluids!). You shared recipes for different stages (like ricotta bake and chili) and made product recommendations (like cherry chocolate Greek yogurt and Protein granola). You shared advice on everything - constipation, foamies, rashes, gas, dry skin, social issues, vomiting, and on and on. You shared funny stories that made me laugh (the thread about gas was one). You offered sympathy and encouragement when I was struggling. You celebrated every NSV with me and cheered me on. We all help each other. That's what makes this group so special! Thank you!!! :-)
  22. Hi guys!! Just reporting some stats for you all! HW: 240 SW: 235 CW: 216 5'4 I am 13 days post op, the weight is flying off and I'm going back to work today. Still some soreness on the left side, I also had hiatal hernia repair so my surgeon said this soreness, which feels like a runners cramp in my side could take up to a month to FULLY go away. Sometimes it's gone but then I lift something, stretch the wrong way etc and it comes back. Lol. Other than that doing pretty good. I am on purée foods and tolerating them fine. Had cottage cheese this morning. Yummy! I will post pics shortly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Had a checkup with my Primary Physician on Monday. He was extremely pleased with my lab report. A1C 5.1, cholesterol 184, blood pressure 120/76. He asked me if I felt my weight loss surgery was worth it.. I told him absolutely. He agreed. He said at my age and the weight I was prior to my surgery he worried that I might have a stroke or have some really bad issues with diabetes. So, in this post I want to tell everyone that no matter what you do to improve your health, it is so important to take control. I personally chose lapband because I didn't want to undergo a major surgical procedure at this stage of my life. I will be grateful to my surgeon forever. He has been so supportive and he is conservative with fills. I am so grateful that I now have mobility and energy to enjoy life . I am going to Alaska in a few weeks and will enjoy the cruise and all of the activites . I believe I will be able to eat healthy and stay on track but I'm not really worried about it.

    Checkup with Primary Physician

Way to go ! I wish more Dr.s would recommend WLS to their patients as a possible cure for obesity. You would make a great role model, for anybody, but especially older women who have the hardest time with weight loss !!! Congratulations again !!!! Way to go !!!
  25. Hello all! I was banded in 2006. Not even 4 months banded and I got pregnant and then pregnant again lol. I was told I couldnt get pregnant...they were wrong . My kids take up most or all my time. One of my children has special needs and his needs were being met first. Now its my time.. I hated the band since I had it put in . I lost 40lbs kept 20 off. I always had issues with too much fill not enough fill. Some days were so bad I couldnt even drink Water. I was fed up. Recently I had my band unfilled. It was terrible in my opinion. I dont think I researched it enough. I've made the decision to do the sleeve. I've been struggling like most to lose weight on my own. My questions are now what to do? I Still have the band. Do I go back to my original surgeon or can I seek a new one? What do I need to do? Do I have to do that whole process again like lap band? Which I don't mind doing. Will my insurance give me a hard time? I thank you all in advance! T
