  1. I had the RNY in 2005. And as expected the pouch does tend to stretch over time. At the time in 2013 I chose to do band over bypass because I had loss some restriction. The D-Switch was not being done then and was the band only revision option in my area. It wasn't until last year that I was made aware the D-switch could be done. So I decided to have the band removed and do the d-switch with the intention of not continuing to gain more weight. Since the D-Switch I’ve been pretty stable but I was hoping to see more of a progression. The reason I made the post was in hopes to find someone in a similar situation. I am re-learning my body again. I’m not looking to do another surgery

    excess skin?

That is for sure! Dr. Nowzaradan is a bariatric surgeon. WTF is he doing performing plastic surgery? I have never in my life, through all of my research of plastics and bariatric surgery heard of a surgeon that was doing both. They are both very highly specialized fields! I would never let a bariatric surgeon perform plastics on me or vice versa. It's insane! And the two younger doctors on the show... what is up with them doing tummy tucks with no muscle repair? That's pretty useless! No muscle repair, no lipo, everyone of their patients have a shelf and a terrible scar. Well, I'll cut them a little slack with the scar, because we aren't really seeing the patients a year or more out, when scars will really start to fade. But the no muscle repair or lipo makes it truly just "skin removal" surgery, which is not what most people think when they think of a tummy tuck. It will definitely require later revision with muscle repair for anyone to get the "flat stomach" they are hoping for.

    Liquid restriction

I was revised from sleeve to RNY yesterday. Today I can do way more than sip water, Propel, and crystal light. Am I correct in assuming that liquids are going straight through like a slider and that I have nothing to worry about other than liquid, protein, and vitamins?

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

My diet post port revision was 2 days liquids (i bought progresso Soups like chicken noodle etc and focused on thr broths) then soft foods and solids as I can tolerate. My port revision was really what help me recommitt so in a way, i am grateful for it!! Lost about 10lbs in a month and a half since the revision. The bad bad is that i have additional scars that I didnt need to have (sigh). But i would rather have scars than continue being obese!! :tongue2: Yes, please set some goals and write them down on here. that's what I do to try and help me keep focused!!!
  5. Had my pre-op surgery meeting with my doc today. I am scheduled for surgery on June 29. I am excited and scared and nervous and worried and everything. I literally feel everything right now lol. I am revising bad to bypass anyone out there went thru a band revision to bypass
  6. I am so glad that you are feeling so much better and that your body is adjusting. I'm doing a lot better these days myself. I actually am beginning to experience some constipation. I began taking a liquid supplement by Bluebonnet called Calcium Magnesium Citrate Plus Vitamin D3. It helps me tremendously by keeping me regular and soft. I take it every evening along with my evening Vitamins and medications. I have progressed to solid foods and have found that some things don't agree with me as the once did. I used to love Peanut Butter. I have found that now it's too sweet and too oily. I can't stomach red meats either. Carbmaster has a new low carb smoothie that I tried today and it didn't sit well. I think the smoothie was too thick. I can still eat Carbmaster low carb yogurt with a scoop of added Protein. As of this past Monday 29AUG16 I started going back to the YMCA so I could swim in the early mornings. Well.. I started off doing Water aerobics for thirty minutes and swimming for ten minutes before I got tired. I have been going every day this week and have been increasing my endurance. I now do water aerobics for twenty minutes and swim for twenty minutes. When I get cleared by the surgeon I will begin to add some light weight lifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so I wont loose all on my fat free muscle mass. I will see him in two more weeks. I must say that my weight loss has been considerably slower. My surgeon had prepared me by informing me that the weight loss would be slower than before. I just need to relax and let the process work no matter how long it takes. I'm not competing with anyone just my preconceived ideas of how this should work for me. I'm glad that you did read my response and know that I am here if you need me. Truthfully I need as much support as I can get especially since this is a revision and I am deathly afraid of failing!!. So please keep me posted of your progress as well. I really appreciate knowing that there is someone else on this board who has a similar background as I do. I don't feel so alone anymore. Thanks
  7. I am one that does not tolerate a band well. I just have one problem after another. Band induced reflux that no drug resolves, esophageal spasms, now esophageal motility issues, my voice has been affected by the reflux, port pain, etc. I am just simply one that does not tolerate a band easily and this is something that could not have been known before I actually had a band and experienced it. I'm tired of fighting one issue after another so I'm considering a sleeve. I need to decide quickly because I either need to have my band removed or revise to a sleeve. I am pretty pro-sleeve, it has the fewest complications long term between bypass, sleeves, and bands. There is no aftercare, you get a sleeve and you are done. That sounds very appealing to me at this point.
  8. Please tell me more about your experience with Dr Arturo Rodriguez. What sort of problems did you have? When did this occur? Have you had any revision WLS? What about surgery was the problem?

    November surgeries?

Did your surgeon's office/nutritionist give you a list? My nutritionist gave me a 3 page handout on the 2 week diet I am supposed to be on before surgery. It's basically like a revised Atkins diet. I know for the ketotic diet they have me going on I choose 4 proteins and 1 fat for breakfast. 5 proteins and 1 fat for lunch. 6 proteins and 1 fat for dinner. I also have "free foods" so I'm supposed to add "leafy greens" or "greens" to every meal that I can have an unlimited amount of. I can choose 1 carb per day. I know each is different for everyone but I think this is a pretty typical pre-surg diet.
  10. Just had a revision band to sleeve Jan 13. It was done in same surgery. It was my preference and also of my surgeon. It took 3 hours. 1.5 to remove band and 1.5 for sleeve. There was a lot of scare tissue around band, the most doc had seen but he got that bugger out. I am also 64 and was concerned. I had a few rough days but at 8 days out now I'm doing oK. Still a little sore and tired but getting around OK. Slept a lot the first 4 days and had a few other issues but so far, so good. Would be happy to answer your questions anytime. Best wishes on your process.
  11. I had two separate operations 10 weeks apart; 1 to remove the band and to enable my oesophagus to go back into shape as the band had formed a pouch above it. 2nd to have the revision. Im in Australia and this was covered by my insurance as the band failed. Ive lost more weight now with the sleeve in 4 months than what i ever lost in 4 years with the band!! I love love love my sleeve and wish i had this option sooner! Best of luck to you with your journey ahead xox
  12. Cleo, I understand, it was really hard for me to decide to do the revision from band to sleeve. I am also a self-pay. I had to rob my 401K to pay for it. I thought about it for months and then researched it and followed all the blogs for a few more months. All the while trying to lose weight but only gaining more. I was miserable. It really came to the bottom-line that there was no way I could lose the weight myself and as I aged being obese was causing more health problems. I know my husband was ready to retire and we wouldn't be able to travel or do fun things, and he was concerned he'd have to take care of me for years to come. It is elective surgery but at my age, I really feel I had no choice but to do it. I was scared to do it but even more scared not to. But so far so good. No complications with the sleeve. A few rough days but at 4 weeks out, I'm glad I did it. There is no way I could do this myself. I'm committed to do this. I have to. I don't really have any words of encouragement but at our age I think we have some wisdom to know we only have one more chance to get this right and be healthy. We know the dangers of being obese and watching our joints fail. We are more aware of the lies we can tell ourselves about having just one bite of something sweet. I could still ride a bike at 260 lbs but it was getting harder and harder. I could see me in a wheel chair before I reached 70 along with hip and/or knee replacements and diabetes. The future was looking pretty grim. I'm glad I decided to get the revision to a sleeve. I know there is still a lot of hard work ahead of me. For the rest of my life I'll have to watch what I eat. I have to make serious life style changes. (just read the blogs of people with any WLS who gained back all the weight, it can happen) I have to do this or my final years on this planet will be miserable.
  13. I just had revision surgery on 1/30, band to sleeve! I had it all in one surgery as well as a hiatal hernia repair! I was under for about 3 hours! All went well! When I asked my Dr why Drs sometimes do it in separate surgeries he had 2 answers, first of all it depends on the pt and comorbities, how long can someone tolerate anesthesia ? Since just having sleeve surgery you are under for about 1 1/2 hrs! The second answer was interesting he said if he did in 2 surgeries he would make more $$$ which is so true ! Also in addition the pt has to take 2 separate LOAs if working! So in the end I would look for a surgeon who did it all in one surgery! good luck
  14. Hey folks, She probably won't be here for a few days, but Rachele is having a LapBand-to-DS Revison today. She did great with the band at first, but then had complications. She tried to make it all work, but decided that enough was enough and that it was time to move on. For those who are not aware, the DS is the most extensive of the usually performed weight loss surgeries, but has much greater success rates than the others. (Yin and Yang and all that.) The surgery itself requires a much more experienced surgeon and there are not really many DS surgeons in the country. When she is finished with the surgery, there is a long recovery period, with rapid initial weight loss...about 30% of excess weight is gone in the first couple of months, and by six months post-op, it's closer to 50% of excess weight loss. There are lifelong malabsorption issues and routine labs must be done and Vitamins and supplements MUST be taken religiously. The payoff is about a 75-80% excess weight loss, maintained over five to ten years post-op (maybe longer) and a 99% cure rate for type II diabetes. More info is available here: http://duodenalswitch.com/ Anyway, you can see Rachele's before and after LapBand photos in her profile and, if you are so inclined, I think you can send a PM or something through there as well. Scared

Wow. I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. of course you are scared it's perfectly normal. I had revision surgery too from lapband to the sleeve. I also have my gallbladder removed and a hernia repaired the same day. And like you I get very sick from the anesthesia. I told the anesthesiologist about how badly I react and they gave me medicine through an IV and also a patch behind my ear that helped immensely. I won't lie the first couple of days were rough but by day three I was sitting out at my son's baseball game and on day 4 I was back at my desk job. I'm losing weight better and feel so much healthier than I ever did with my band because I can eat real food and I don't feel hungry all the time. It's nice not to be throwing up all the time of course 2. I just wanted to share that with you good luck in making a decision.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I had revision from lapband to ds on June 7... 2 nights in the hospital and I’m home and I’ve even worked from home nearly all day today. This is way harder than lapband or csection ( I had 2 of those ) I had 2 week pre op diet, week 1 was 2 shakes 2 snacks and a lean green dinner week 2 was all shakes and I was down 13lb when I went in for surgery. I’m so puffed up now from IV fluids the scale showed back up 10lb so I’m staying away from that thing a few days.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

After putting it off for 2 years because I didn't want to be lectured about gaining weight back, I went to see my surgeon last July. She cheerfully informed me her practice had stopped doing bands in 2010 because the success rate is so low! Based on my severe GERD she unfilled my band right then, rather than adding fill like I'd expected. It was an immediate relief. From 2 Prilosec/day to 1 every 2 days or even longer. Since then I've done all the steps and paperwork (tedious!) to get approved for a revision to the vertical sleeve. My plan said 'okay', and my surgery is set for April 30! While I'm not looking forward to the surgery, I am really hopeful I'll be far more successful with the VSG. In the meantime I've been working out with a trainer since September and am as strong as I can be, even if my weight has stayed the same. With no fill in the band, I'm grateful for no weight gain at this point. I'll let you all know how it goes, please all of you do the same!

    May Bandsters!

Well I was banded May 16th. I was the very last surgery of the day so I had fasted from Midnight till my surgery which was performed finally at 7:00 PM in the evening . It was a long day. I had gastric bypass revision lap band surgery so I had a lot of scar tissue that needed to be scraped away. I flew home the next day with some discomfort but nothing severe at all. I am more plagued by the opposite of consitpation and thought it might have been the stuff I had to drink down quickly when they checked to make sure the band was in place and no leaks when they xrayed me. Gas is minimal but it was never drastic. It was there but walk walk walk and the gas strips helped me. My port site is pretty sore and bruised and I have changed bandages it seems clean and the drain site is the worst looking right now. Anyone know when it would be safe to add sugar free fudgesicles as I am sooooo tired of sf ice pops..need to TASTE something..but I so cautious and have had only clear liquids ie..broth , water and the sf ice pops so far....not craving food food yet at all....except for some reason ...cream of wheat..lol...

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

I'm doing okay. I have lost 40 pounds. I am a revision surgery from band to sleeve. I have had some beers and some cocktails recently and also have cheated a few times on my food plan but I ate in smaller amounts than I would have. I'd like to drop another 20 pounds but I'm fitting into a lot of my skinny clothes again so that's encouraging. I try to walk 10,000 steps five times per week.
  22. Good luck to you! Prayers for a smooth revision and speedy recovery
  23. Hi Sue, I have to get a sleeve to bypass revision, it will be fixing the stomach, as well as doing a partial bypass. They don't do a full bypass with the rerouting of all the organs they would for a full bypass, but partial. I was very much not for the bypass, that's why I had the sleeve, so this takes an emotional toll on me even more so because at this point I really don't have a say or option. I'm just trying to maintain a positive attitude with the 'everything happens for a reason' attitude. It will be laparoscopic, and they said they will try to go into the incisions from when I had the sleeve (I really pushed that one), but I may have an extra on or two. Because of the way this one is done it is unlikely. I am very happy with the healing of my scars from the sleeve as they are pretty much non existant. My recovery will be a couple to few days in the hospital, three day prior liquid diet (only had to do a day for the sleeve), as well as doing post op diet as if I was getting the full bypass. I was made aware this surgery has only been done once by my facility which draws extra concern and anxiousness, as this is a newer procedure. The one person that has had it has had an great out come.
  24. Crybaby... I feel for you. We are in the same boat. I just can't lose with the sleeve. I lost 42 pounds in 8 months with my revision to sleeve. During the past 12 months I have wavered bw 175-185....which is the longest I have stayed that low in my adult life. I feel ok but I just do not understand why I cannot lose more. I live in fear bc my scale bounces up and down... each time creeping a pound or two higher then back down. So scared I will be 230-260 again. I am trying to go back to Protein and Water goals which even though I can't eat large volumes I have not been meeting those goals lately. Stress is a BIG factor! Don't give up.... we did all of this for a reason. Keep in touch! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
