    Disappearing lapbanders

i wouldn't wish a lapband on my worst enemy. I had complications which did permanent damage. buyer beware. if you don't want a revision down the road, i'd avoid a lap band. Your chance of a revision by year 10 is about 50% with a band. and they aren't being phased out slowly. they very rapidly dropped from the most popular surgery to less than 5% due to the complication rates. I had mine 11 years. I only had 3 years complication free.

    Disappearing lapbanders

I just had an orientation for Bariatric surgery. The dr that gave the seminar stated that lap bands are being phased out slowly because too many patients are coming back with issues from either the lap band or new issues arise from it and they have to go through revision surgery. I am undecided as to which surgery I’ll be going with but I definitely do not want to do any revisions later down the road. How long have you all had yours? Mila

Feel like I made a mistake.

Tell youself you are way better than normal---you have been revised. What you gave up does not hold a candle to what you're getting. You'll live longer, thinner and fitter. You are going to look good and feel good. Buck up Buckaroo! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Hi there, I had a lower body lift in August last year and although I am happy to not have the apron of skin anymore, the surgeon promised a much better job then performed. Anyone have experience dealing with either trying to get a revision or seeking legal advise, or even suing?? I have handfuls of skin left over and a deformed bum. I have went to other surgeons who all day I need a new TT or even a whole new LBL!! Surgeon Dr Kara, Whitby Ontario - do not go there!! - said he can redo the Fleur TT for another $6000!! I already paid him $17,500. I told them that is not acceptable and they will need to provide another option. They were going to get back to me today. I have a free consult with a personal injury lawyer on Thursday. Any tips or help in this area will be much appreciated.
  5. lots of people revise to the sleeve. I'd caution you though, that if you have any reflux with the band (as many do) your best revision option will be bypass.
  6. Having surgery on 3/21. Anyone wanna be surgery buddies?

Band to sleeve success stories, please.

I am on week three of my band to sleeve conversion and I tell you I just had a moment where I wanted to purge band style. I am on day 2 soft solids , week three post op. I made my first scrambled egg, and even eating it ever so slow its not going down. I have a lot of behavior that i have to change. My band was empty for the last 6 months prior to surgery and I gained fast and furious and ended up really depressed. I am overjoyed that I have been revised. I am really trying to do everything right this time. Part of me knows that with such a high failure rate the band design or concept was a lot of why I failed, but I have to look at my side of the road and do better this time. any stories about how and what changes you are all making band to sleeve conversion will be really helpful for me. warm regards, Dawn Marie
  8. I'm doing a revision surgery and found a doctor who's supposed to be amazing. (the dr who did my original surgery has since retired) He's the head of Bariatric surgery at the big University in my town and seemed very confident and gave me a positive vibe in his introduction videos. But find this new doctor's office and staff very strange. - First, I have yet to meet the guy, 1 month into appointments and tests (endoscopy, upper GI, psych, nutrition, etc). - I have only communicated once with the nurse practitioner. She never got back to me with any of the results of the tests and I had to call her for them. - The meeting with the nutritionist was a joke, where he basically met with me for 10 minutes to give me a handout that said what my diet would be after surgery and told me to practice chewing and not lose too much weight or I wouldn't be eligible. He also wouldn't look me in the eye... so strange... - The meeting with the psychologist was wierd too... no eye contact either, just filled out information on her computer. (I will say the group therapy she's making me do is the only real thing that might help in this whole process). - The insurance advocate gets things done but I only find out if I call her constantly. - They never answer the phone at the office - In the one month I started the process, they have lost a nutritionist and a medical assistant... Is this normal??? The doctor himself seems very qualified, and I think the Group Therapy is actually helpful!

    Lap Band Conversion to Sleeve

I had my band removed 11/29 and my sleeve done on 12/20. My dr recommends patients to wait 1 to 6 months for the revision. Life has been much better for me since being revised.

Submitted to Insurance, now I wait...

The first time it was for my lapband which was denied twice, took a couple weeks. This time for the revision it took less than a week for approval. I have Aetna pos II. Good luck! You can always call too and just ask for a status.

    8 Days until Revision

So, I'm 8 days until my revision surgery. I'm on the pre-op liquid diet and it sucks. I've started using the PatchMD vitamins, still not 100% sure how they get more weight in vitamins and minerals than 1 patch actually weighs, but I bought them and I'm using them. I've almost gotten all of my leave situation sorted out, just need to wait for the final thumbs up. I'm still nervous, but I know I need to do this. I'm worried about the surgery, the changes that are going to be required and some changes that no one can plan for... but, this is my big year. 20th wedding anniversary and 40th birthday this November. I wanted to be the same weight at 40 that I was at when I was 20, because that would be awesome. But, I'll take what I can get at this point.

    March Gastric Bypass Group

Hi Roxine thank you for sharing your journey. Glad to hear you are well on your way to recovery & a better & healthier lifestyle. I had revision bypass on March 9th. The surgery went flawless however my stomach is super swollen due to what I'm hoping is from the gas. It's a bit uncomfortable to say the least. I'm hoping the swollen goes down before I go back to work on the 19th. I fly back home from TijuanaX tomorrow where I will continue to recoup. I'm still on clear liquid diet for the next 2 weeks. I Just ordered me LonoLife Grass Fed Beef & Chicken broth from Amazon. It has 10g of protein & comes in little packets, this will surely help me get my protein in. I will start on protein broth and shakes next week this week I will continue to focus on get my fluid that includes 64 oz of water. I like to add Crystal Light to my water it makes it easier for me to drink.

God is good I'm glad you made it out of surgery safe & now have the knowledge you need to treat your diabetes. I pray you continue to heal with know issues. Happy healing I just had revision bypass surgery on March 9th in Tijuana MX and the surgery was flawless as well. Only discomfort I'm experiencing is a swollen stomach that makes me look like I'm 8 mths pregnant. I know it's due to the surgery but I can't wait until this pass.
  18. Just off Lap band to Gastric By-Pass revision - surgery 3/5/18, discharged 3/7/18, and have been sleeping many hours in the day, but not for long periods. Take 3-4 naps during day and then only sleep for a couple of hours during the night - have others experienced something similar? I have been walking, and I tried just to stay up all day and then sleep at night, but can't focus on anything and am pretty irritable. My temp's been @96.1. No aches or pains otherwise normal scarring but get sleepy all the time.

    BCBS TX Revision

When I decided to pursue the revision the surgeon who performed my initial gastric sleeve performed my EGD. When his staff submitted the package for insurance approval that was all submitted, that submission was denied. Instead of submitting an appeal I opted to immediately see a bariatric physician that I could possibly get approval with within the last quarter of the year. After talking with my new physician a second EGD was performed, an abdominal ultrasound was done to view my gallbladder, an ultrasound on my legs and arteries and a stress test to actually monitor how I performed and breathed while cycling. The stress tests showed I had the capacity of someone 30 years my elder and showed a sac full of gallstones that my initial surgeon didn't want to remove and never did tests to show there was an issue. When these were submitted the 2nd time to my insurance, I was approved immediately for a revision, from a gastric sleeve to a duodenal switch. Although my first surgeon didn't submit and real problems with my sleeve, my second surgeon saw that a portion of the stomach was left during my initial surgery that should have been removed. My initial surgeon would not admit that there was an issue in the submission to the insurance company which was a cause of the initial denial. I'm now approaching my 3month post-op revisional surgery. I felt defeated after speaking with my first surgeon...stay strong you still have options Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass 12 years ago. Started at 340lb, lost 100lbs and have since regained 50lbs back. I want to get a revision / conversion but unsure what to get . I heard about sleeves, minis, and duodenal switch, but i dont know the pros and cons of each- especially since I already had gastric bypass. I really want to hear from people that had a RYGB and got a second surgery. What did you get the second time? why did you chose that? Is the 2nd surgery result any different than the 1st? Im having a tough time finding information on revision / conversion surgeries. I need information. thanks!
  21. I'm not having surgery with Dr. Valenzuela, so I can't give you any insight on her. I know where you are mentally because I have a Lapband that slipped twice and now has a leak. It was a great tool and worked well for approximately 10 years, but the last 2 years have been a real struggle. Since my band can no longer hold saline fluid, I've regained the 135 pounds and a bit more of the weight that I lost with my Lapband within 2 YEARS.!!! I was so frustrated and continued beating myself until I realized that I can't help the fact that my band is leaking. Since bariatric surgery is an exclusion in my health benefits here in the US, I've opted to go to Mexico for my revision surgery. I'm scheduled for (Lapband to VSG) revision on April 4, 2018 with Dr. Jorge Maytorena - Longterm VSG/WLS. I chose this surgeon, because a I have a few friends that had VSG surgery by him and have had great results. I'm quite nervous, but I know that this is something that I MUST do. Everything is going to work out fine for the BOTH of us.
  22. Hi, I'm scheduled for revision surgery (Lapband to VSG) on April 4, 2018 in Tijuana Mexico, but I opted to have another surgeon to perform my procedure. I too will be travelling alone and wish I had a buddy. I'm very nervous, but I know this is something that HAS to be done. I wish you all the best.

    Minnesota?

I’m in Woodbury. I finished all of my appts today. They will submit for insurance approval now. I’m going for a band revision to bypass. I’m going to Meadowbrook. Anyone have experience there? They have been very nice so far. Plan to have the surgery in June due to work and travel until then. Can’t wait!
  24. Praise the Lord, I'm 6 months post op, and very thankful my diabetes was reversed as well as severe reflux I had prior to surgery! My weight loss has been slow with many 3 week stalls, and my surgeon recommends I have to increase the protein intake, as I slacked off of protein shakes the last few months. (Just got tired of them). I'm back to having a protein shake of 30 gm. plus what I get in foods to hopefully increase wt. loss & slow down hair loss. Overall, done well down 50 lbs. & Hgb A1C is 5.4 (also off cholesterol med. since surgery, but lab levels creeping back up, keeping a watch on it)

    BCBS TX Revision

Hello, I have BCBS(not Tx)...the coverage was for one bariatric procedure per lifetime and in order to get a revision approved, there had to be an issue from the primary procedure. Once my physician proved my primary procedure failed (proved through EGD tests, existing comorbidities, gallstones/gallbladder complications that would be removed during revision) my revision was approved very quickly without a wait period. In my insurance submission, all of the test results were included even my gym membership to show I was continuing to make efforts on improving my health.
