Let's Get it Started, July 2017 Sleevers!
elle2 replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm day 9 post op and I have to say that yesterday I felt almost normal! I'm having a hard time getting in my protein and I'm tired of the protein shakes. I'm trying different creamy soups and adding some non-fat plain greek yogurt to them to boost the protein content. -
Any August 2017 Sleevers?
SandraD_PDX replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jessalene, Premier Protein shakes come in a lot of flavors and I think they taste really good. Along with vanilla and chocolate they have banana cream and caramel. I will mix chocolate and banana sometimes and it's really good. They are cost effective too. Costco carries them, and I see them in all the grocery stores too. Another one I found is the Muscle Milk 100, 15g protein and only 100 calories. They have that in powder or pre-made shakes. The vanilla cream premade is amazing but for some reason really hard to find. I buy from Amazon a lot and the chocolate flavor costs $24/case and the vanilla costs twice as much! So I buy the powder of that. For clear protein drinks, someone on this site recommended Protein2O protein water in the coconut/pineapple flavor. OMG, if u like pina coladas, you will love it! 15g protein zero sugar and clear so perfect post op. I got that from Amazon. Costco has an organic bone broth that is also good. 9g protein & 45 calories. Last thing is Unjury protein powder in unflavored or chicken soup. Good for pre and post op. Folks put the unflavored in everything from coffee creamer (sugar free of course) to yogurt. Hope that helps! When's your surgery? -
Yesterday I stuck to the yogurt and liquids and my stomach feels much better. It took me 3 days to get over it. So not worth it. And I'm with you I tried pureed chili and had heartburn and gas pain. Spicy foods are a no go. Guess I'll stick to bland food till I can handle the spice. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app

Ok I had my sleeve surgery 21 days ago today. 2 days ago I really messed up. I went to my sisters house 2 days ago and she had cooked speghetti. My favorite. So I thought if I'd just mash it up good and chew it to pieces I could have a couple bites. BIG MISTAKE! That night I felt like I ate a brick. I was sick and hurting all night. Wasn't able to eat yesterday and ran to the bathroom at work all day. Today it took me 4 hours just to eat a yogurt. I lost 5 lbs in 3 days. But trust me it wasn't how I wanted to do it. It was very painful. I'm suppose to be on the pureed diet one more week then start soft foods. I work for a neurologist and he explained to me today that my intestines were stretching and sending signals to my brain that I had something foreign I shouldn't have inside me. Which caused the intestines to stretch even more. I felt like crap. So if you are like me and think a couple bites won't hurt trust me it will hurt. I've learned my lesson and will stick with my diet. I'm doing great I've lost 45 lbs in 3 weeks but it can't be good to do it this way. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello! I'm three weeks post op and just started the soft foods phase. I can get down maybe a tablespoon of egg, 3/4 of an Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and a cheese stick all day. Is that enough? I'm also taking my vitamin and trying to get all that water down.

Post op Day 15....
For dinner last night I nibbled on some very mushy broccoli with a hint of lemon and pepper and a touch of salt. It was DELISH! I probably had 2 bites of that and then I had paired it with my Ricotta Bake. I maybe had 3 bites of that. I am still learning the feeling of what is "full". The DS is not like the gastric bypass. Things seem to go down much easier as opposed to the gastric bypass it was coming up regardless if I liked it or not. I am thankful for that experience only because I will not over eat. I am scared to throw up especially with my wounds still very much present and hurting occasionally. ( I think the nerves are reconnecting) But on that same point I am scared I may not eat enough. Today I still brought a protein drink and I had half left over from work. So now I have had thus far 1 full protein premier protein and a half and 3 bites of my ricotta bake that I brought. I also brought some non fat yogurt but I doubt I will open that. I know I cannot live in fear but I do not want to not make my protein intake for the day. I have been getting the water in but I noticed my urine not as clear as prior to surgery. Oh well....I will keep trucking.

At least six days a week I have a protein shake or protein smoothie. I add my fruit and veggies into that. It's really refreshing in the summertime. I usually have eggs on Sunday. Hope this helps. Sometimes I'll even just have a Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. -

Anyone sleeve the week of 6/25?
Missy161 replied to Randy-J's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 6/22/17. I did not have a purée stage. I was on protein shakes the day after surgery and by day 6 I was on yogurt and apple sauce. By my 2 week post op I was eating ground beef and tuna fish. I haven't had much trouble eating except when I take just one bite too much. I measure everything- sometimes an ounce is enough- like with the ground meat. Still chew everything and wait between bites. Not drinking is the hardest thing for me. I was told to try to take 30 minutes to eat those 2 ounce meals. I don't always take that long. I'd call your dr's office and talk with them. Have you had a post op visit yet? -
I wish I could have food. I can only have applesauce and pudding as "food" as I can't have creamy soups or yogurt... bad dairy problems now HW - 230 SW - 215 CW- 201 GW - 130 Height 5'5"

Hello! I had my procedure on 6/12. Currently I am in the puréed phase. I think my biggest obstacle has been the fact I am tired a lot of the time. My Dr said it will probably last a few more weeks. It has been nice to have some texture in my food. I suggest homemade refried beans for sure. I just cooked pinto beans in the crockpot. Puréed them in the food processor and added a little enchilada sauce and reduced fat cheese. Baked butternut squash puréed with garlic and Greek yogurt cream cheese was nice too. Wishing everyone a lot of success!

March 20th- New to group and New to sharing
tfalk69 replied to deedeedubbs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The bike riding only bothers my knee when I try to go up one of the many hills near my house. Not pain as much as I hear it "clicking" and I get off and walk it up I felt really good on the plane, was flying alone with my 8 year-old and just felt happy and capable of keeping up with her. I'm doing pretty well with my protein; I like Think Thin 20 g bars or Premier Protein 30 g shakes for my breakfast then have yogurt for a snack with grilled chicken breast or shrimp for lunch. Some more chicken (deli meat) usually for a snack and cheese or an egg in the afternoon then some other protein for dinner. I usually only have a snack later if I'm low on protein. My daughter recently became a vegetarian so I'm experimenting with meatless options. If you're on Facebook I'm in the group My Bariatric Kitchen - they have recipe ideas and other advice for getting in protein. I use MyFitnessPal to track my protein and have the same username if you want to friend me to see my diary. I've struggled with my water intake but am doing good today - 40 ounces so far. I have a desk job so the steps are harder to come by but hopefully I'll bike tonight. I'm going to try going back to the gym at work and use one of the trainers, just need to start off slow since I'm only at about 1000 calories too. Have fun camping!! Our family doesn't camp (yet) but I'm a Girl Scout leader and took our troop for an overnight in June that involved some hiking and was so happy I could keep up!! Looking forward to more adventures as I become more healthy!! -
Trip during purée - need food tips
gwbicster replied to A.Better.Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's been my go to, since I don't like cottage cheese and I'm a bit sick of Greek yogurt. Also some onion powder, and celery salt. -
What were some of your favorite foods after the purée stage? I hate the purée stage!! I'm so sick of cottage cheese and yogurt and protein drinks. I get to "eat" beginning Thursday and I'm so excited! I don't love a lot of protein-rich foods...no seafood for sure! I've been making smooth chicken salad during this phase and I am over it! Tried a scrambled egg but since I'm supposed to only eat a bite every few minutes it quickly got cold and gross. Can I have a modified taco? Ground turkey or lean beef with seasonings, a little cheese and in a lettuce wrap? That sounds amazing to me! Would love any suggestions!! I'm 5 1/2 weeks out right now....surgery was 6/1 and I've lost about 23 pounds...have been in a stall for the last 2 weeks where I've only lost 4 pounds.

Protein First, leave out all the rest until you are getting that protein in per day (cept for fluids of course). I think that's a key reminder, being that we are used to eating multiple things during our meals. This is a whole new ballgame. Things just don't work the same for us any longer, so we have to adapt. Sure, I'd like to grab for that nice banana, or apple sauce, but I have to stop myself and think... have I gotten in at least 60 g protein yet? If not, I grab the yogurt, or anything else with some notable protein. I have a small dry erase board on my Fridge, everything I take out of it, I write down. It has an area for my protein, fl ounces, fat, carbs, and calories. This isn't forever, but until my "muscle memory" changes from blindly grabbing and eating, to focusing on my new way to eat, this is my go-to. I take a photo of my board every night before bed and that's my log. Clean slate every morning, and I try to add a few new things each week.

It's easy...focus on meat and dairy for your protein. Tilapia fillets = 20 grams of protein Chicken breast = 30 grams of protein Salmon patties = 22 grams of protein 1 cup of cottage cheese = 24 grams of protein 1 cup of ground turkey = 32 grams of protein 1 cup of Greek yogurt = 15 grams of protein

Food Does Not Taste Good
boldnewginger replied to JRaye's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 7 months out and still don't enjoy food (but that's a good thing!). The only thing I really like is steak. I do eat a lot of yogurt and cheese to make sure I get enough protein every day, but I have to schedule times to eat or I won't get it in every day. I'm not bothered that nothing tastes good because food no longer controls me! -
My restriction lasted about two years. No matter that we eat no carbs or sugar, I am swimming and bought a treadmill, I drink shakes, eat yogurt and apples during the day, and light dinner, my weight keeps escalating. I am going back and forth on different diets again, I am sick.
