    Feeling Defeated And Depressed

I'm 4.5ish months out as well (7/3). I've lost 79lbs. It's been small steady amounts with some weeks w 0 loss. I think we are still in a good range. I know it's frustrating to not see that scale move but try to focus more on NSVs like how your clothing feels, your energy levels, coming off RX meds, and your overall mood. Hang in there. We can do this!! Prayers :-)

    I Ran with my son

Oh, Apple, I am so happy for you This has got to be one of my favorite NSV's
  5. Had my first NSV yesterday. As I was getting ready for work, I put on a pair of slacks that were rather tight before surgery. I pulled them on, zipped them up, and they promptly fell to the ground! I laughed out loud as I was thinking about the YouTube video of the grandpa singing the Pants on the Ground rap song. This is a great memory for my first NSV.

    What makes you happy?

For me there are just too many things to count...not being so obsessed with when and what I am eating I feel so much freedom. Every day I notice things I can do now that I couldn't do before I lost weight...cross my legs, sit in a booth at a restaurant, fly without a seat belt extender, not take blood pressure meds, no knee pain...these NSVs make me so happy and remind me why I am doing this.

Firsts naked NSV's came in twos

Nope - I think fitting into old clothes that used to be too small is an NSV. You're starting to notice changes that don't just have to do with your weight in the morning. Any way you label it, way to go!!!

    NSV: My first 5k

Earlier this month (September 7th to be exact) I participated in my first 5k. Although I didn't run or jog, walking a 5k was a huge accomplishment for me. A year ago I would have never thought about participating in a 5k. Next month I'm doing two 5k's. I love my sleeve and the opportunities it has given me. I wish I would have made the decision to have surgery much sooner.
  20. Tonight was my first public appearance post-op in a professional capacity. Now, I have been out in public since a few days after surgery. I mean appearance in that I was working and "performing" in front of a small crowd. This was a small private group of mixed professionals and hobbyists who are artistically inclined. I did a two hour presentation on the wood lathe for them, making a piece that was requested by one of the group's members. These demonstrations are a combination of instruction and entertainment. And I've got to be pretty much 100% spot on the whole time. Mistakes are remembered and recounted for years. So it was something of a NSV for me. First, I worked in front of a crowd for two solid hours on my feet, talking, working, answering questions, and trading barbs with a number of colleagues. Second, I did not have any major screw ups. That is always a good thing, and especially so my first time out of the gate from surgery and significant weight loss. Third was the weight loss itself. I've been in the crowd a couple of times, and wearing loose clothing. Tonight was jeans and a T shirt. There is no room for loose clothes around a lathe. And when you are on display for two hours, people have time to study you and take notice of things. Part of my notoriety is for my humor in these events, but part of it has been my size, which I joked about as well. You might say it has been a combination of mirth and girth. But anyway, I received a number of comments along the lines of, "Wow, you've really lost some weight, haven't you? No, not just a few pounds. You've lost a lot of pounds!" My stock answer was, "It's all from clean livin'." People seemed to accept that, although I got a few sidelong glances. In any case, it could not have been a better night. Okay, they could have paid me. That would have been nice, but this group doesn't pay anyone. It is for the exchange of ideas among peers, so I wasn't really expecting that. Now I am home. It is very late, and I am full of adrenaline. Or, it might be that they gave me caffeine coffee at the drive through by mistake. In any case, I am wide awake. But I am snuggled down in a warm bed, listening to the rain on the metal roof outside my window, and the soft sounds of the freight train, as it makes its way across the countryside about six miles from here, sounding his horn in the night at dozens of country crossings. At least that stupid owl isn't out tonight. He hoots it up on a regular basis and keeps me from my beauty sleep.
  21. So I have set a few goals for myself, and I thought it would help to share them here. I have lost 105 pounds total so far, 92 since the date of surgery. I lost 13 pounds the 2 weeks before sugery. So, I think my weightloss has been pretty good, and now it is slowing down. I can't really complain because I am still losing 2-3 pounds a week. But I think I could lose 4-5 pounds a week since I stil have 99 to lose. So, I am going to change things up for the next few weeks. I have been tracking what I eat and I am grazing way too much. Its going to be hard to break that, but I will! Right now, I am at 264 pounds. My goal is to be 240 pounds by March 28th, 2011. That is 6 weeks away, so an average of 4 pounds per week. I don't think that's an unacheivable goal for me. My second goal is to stop the snacking! And my third goal is to not weigh myself this entire week, until Monday morning!!! That will be SOooooo hard since I weigh myself multiple times a day! I think it will be more rewarding if I wait all week! And I have an NSV to share too!!! I am now severely obese, instead of MORBIDLY obese! Woohooo. From what I found, severe obesity is a BMI of 35-39.9 and I am at a BMI of 37.9, so I have been out of morbid obesity for a while When I get to 240 pounds, I will just be obese! After I meet that goal, my next mini goal will just to be overweight, hehe! As I type this, I also noticed that I have 99 more pounds to lose! That feels so awesome to have less than 100 pounds to lose when you start out needing to lose over 200 pounds!!! WOW!
  22. Good job ! I know its an incredible feeling! You have actually achieved a scale and a NSV!
  23. Djmohr

    Very different NSV!

@@gowalking nailed it! Losing the weight and getting healthy is all about getting engaged in life again. Congratulations!!!! What a fun NSV
  24. My son, my friend and I went to the fair this evening. We had a great time. We wanted to see the hypnotist show before we left, so we got good seats right up front. So the hypnotist gets on stage and of course is looking for volunteers. My son is begging me to go up, so I volunteered along with around 15 other people. Now, 7 months ago I never would've wanted to go on a stage in front of hundreds of people when I weighed 333lbs. I would've been mortified at what people would've said about me, and I never would have been relaxed enough to be hypnotized. But that was then, this is now. I now weigh 185lbs, and am so confident in myself that not only did I volunteer, I actually got hypnotized and was the star of the whole show!! My friend was actually laughing so much that she burst a blood vessel in her eye!! My son just loved that I did it, and that I got hypnotized. And when the show was over and I got off the stage, I didn't even feel embarrassed...I felt good that I took such a risk. Funny how losing weight opens up such weird and different opportunities!!
