First, there is no amount of weight one "should" lose by now. Everyone is different. If you are on plan you are doing great. Focus on your plan not on your scale. Get rid of your scale, it will make like much easier. On to plan. Again, each of our plans are different. Some are better or worse but it's probably more important to learn the discipline of following a plan than the particulars of the plan. By 3 months I was at my "forever" plan, which was 3 meals per day consisting of 3oz protein, 1oz veggies. I can't always manage the whole meal. If I can't get past one or two bites I may try again in an hour or so. I dump on sugar and fats, so I learned pretty quickly to avoid those. Otherwise I could eat anything. Some foods, like most snack foods, anything potato, I could eat easily and in volume. For the first two or three years I avoided such foods completely until I could master moderation, which for me was a new concept. Surgery doesn't deal with 100% of our issues. What goes into our mouths is still a choice. @liveaboard15 I've commented before that your pictured food would be a perfect meal and it looks delicious. The great aspect of them is that even if one is eating the chicken (as an example) for 4 or 5 meals in a row, adding and changing the sauce can still create quite a variety of flavors. BBQ, Asian, Italian, Italian, Curry... Yum. Good luck, Tek

    November 2022 surgery support!

Well the time is upon me. My surgery is tomorrow. I arrive at the hospital at 8AM and will go from there. I appreciate all the support from the people on this site. I am grateful that I did no go crazy on the liquids the last two weeks and feel prepared for what is to come next. I am a Christian, I know that I didn't get through the last few weeks on my own and am relying on God to continue to help me do the things the right way. I know not everyone has those same beliefs and I respect that and hope that people will respect my beliefs as well.

    Portion size

Yes, you should be eating more than 2 tablespoons at three months. Best to check with your dietician though to be sure as plans & your needs do differ. I was told start with 1/4 - 1/3 cup slowly increasing to a cup as I was able which I reached at around my 6 month mark but it did depend upon what I was eating. I was barely eating 900 calories at that point. Remember not every portion is the same & calories & nutritional content play a part too as well as the density of the food. Oh & 30lbs is a good amount to have lost by three months. I’d lost about 33lbs at three months & my surgeon was very happy. So you’re doing well. Congrats.

    September surgery buddies!!

Thank you and congrats to you too! Also thank you for reminding me about how far I've come because it makes me more thankful for the surgery even if the stalls are really really hard.

You are doing all the right things - I’m so sorry it’s happening. Stalls suck and really are de-motivating. Good on you, though, to be in Onederland! I don’t have any magic solutions but I hear your frustration and sadness.
  6. I followed my plan. It was tough going at times, but I did follow it. You'll be eating more-or-less normally again at some point (albeit smaller portions than you were pre-op), it's just these first few weeks and months that can be challenging. I toughed it out. I was tired of being morbidly obese and just wanted the weight GONE!

    Questions about MMJ use.

To be honest I smoked the day I was discharged which was a little too early I feel it was hard on my chest it got easier after 3 days coming from a heavy smoker before surgery heavy as in I smoke at least three times or more a day I knew it would be tough but now I am 6 days post-op and I smoke it doesn't hurt my chest it feels normal if I do feel like I am getting that hungry feeling I drink my shake or I eat a Popsicle or eat some jello and it helps but I definitely helped me with my pain also. It's all about willpower and self-control and with this journey I learned that that is something that I have to have especially being around other people my willpower has become so strong when it comes to food so I know me smoking and being able to control my Munchies is okay Sent from my SM-N970U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Tomorrow is day 7 actually & I been doing 2 fairlife shakes a day & 2 water bottles jello & a sugar free popsicle broth wasn't cutting it for me especially in been doing it for weeks before surgery I cant even try anymore. Tomorrow I can incorporate oatmeal hot cereals, pudding & cream soups in which I am so looking forward to! Is this hunger feeling normal??? I really just want to chew some food & get full already! I heard this first month is the toughest but mannn I can't wait to get back to solid foods to atleast eat all these healthy recipes I been looking up. Advice please, suggestions for this 2nd week, did you stick to the plan or did you try soft foods early ? I'm just curious I'm trying to do everything by book. Surgeriversary

Happy surgiversary summerseeker!! I had my sleeve the week before you (as you know). It's been great to have so many people here going through the same things at the same time. You've done amazingly well because you've worked so hard - enjoy every minute of your celebratory weekend. 🤩

    Questions about MMJ use.

It CAN make you hungry--I find that it tends to affect me in spells, I'll get the munchies with a vengeance for a week or so then it won't feel like it affects me at all (could be different strains, I live in a state where the "real stuff" is illegal so it's Delta 8, Delta 10, HHC, etc...Delta 10 seems like it gives me the munchies the worst so I avoid it. HHC seems like it's the least "munchie-genic"...since you live in a state where you're going to a real dispensary I would ask advice about what might help your symptoms and give you the least munchies.) I use it recreationally and for sleep...I've taken pretty much every prescription sleep aid out there and MJ has WAY less side effects and doesn't make me feel like I got hit by a truck when I wake up.
  12. it also can be your vagus nerve healing… i am over 3.5 weeks and still have occasional dizzy spells especially standing up. just take it slow and let your body adjust

    November 2022 surgery support!

Pain is good, yesterday and today no pain killers. I did figure the pain I feel when i cough may be to an internal stich or muscle since its between 2 stiches. Getting in and out of bed is easier just some pressure when I get up. I started working today, since I work from home and no discomfort so far. The issue is sleeping on my back, I'm a side sleeper so sleeping on one position all night is affecting my left leg, gets numbs and I get some sciatica pain. I can see me trying to sleep on my side soon. I haven't weight myself yet, waiting for Wed that is my 1st week follow up, I will expect some of the inflammation to be down by then. Attach is an average chart of what we should be losing. Personally, I'm not stressing about it since I lost 20 lbs this month and if following the program things should be moving along. OIP.jfif

    Not feeling my restriction

Yes, once you feel that tightness - that's your restriction. Meals should not take more than 30 minutes to consume and not be more than 2 ounces in portion. I was forcing myself to eat a full cup of yogurt around 3 weeks because I was trying to get all my protein in and my nutritionist strongly advised that was way too much (a cup of yogurt is typically about 5 oz) But you lose the most weight in the beginning and also don't have that hungry feeling so take advantage of it! Stay disciplined through the beginning and it will pay off! The first 4 weeks is the hardest but it gets better! Good luck!

    September surgery buddies!!

I have been good and trying not to weigh myself every day but today I got on the scale after 4 days of not looking and my weight did not go down, it actually went up .2. I just got done with a 3 week stall 2 weeks ago and mentally I am having a really hard time dealing with possibly being in another one. Its so hard to stay positive when you work hard to do everything as right as you can and then it feels like you are failing. I can't just stay off the scale because I need to know if I'm in a stall so I can at least try things to help but being in a stall is the worst thing ever. I have been hitting all of my goals, have increased my exercise a little bit, not drastically. As in I walk 30 min instead of 24 on the treadmill. I have been trying to do my strength exercises, but not with any actual weights, just my own arms. So its not likely to be an exercise and muscle gain equaling me out. I have been on the low end of my water and calories so I'll increase both but honestly if I was just on a regular diet right now, I would just give up. I'm glad I can't give up really, so I'm appreciative of the surgery but still sad.

    4 weeks down!

Hi there! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I'm actually getting married that same day! I felt nervous and excited as well, and I'm SO happy I did it. It has definitely leveled out, and I'm actually quite regular now. The Multivitamin was causing diarrhea, so I don't take it on days that I can't be near a restroom. I'm now 3 months out. CW 257. Still lactose intolerant and don't do well with sugar, but can tolerate most foods, although I haven't tried salad or raw veggies just yet. I've been stalled for 2 weeks, but I'm not worried. It happens. Be patient with your first few weeks. This forum helped he a LOT. Good luck to you!
  17. Good luck this week you will do great!

    3rd and 4th week stall

Don't worry. We do not lose weight in a linear fashion. If you're sticking to your programme then you WILL lose - you cannot not lose. Everyone here has had stalls big and small, long and short - they are part and parcel of a weight loss journey. I know they are hard but they will surely shift. Enjoy your journey - it's so very worth it.
  19. I had the gastric Sleeve surgery almost 2 years ago … was 260 and now about 160 … lowest weight 155. 1. You will have regrets within 6 months of surgery for emotional reasons like not soothing yourself with food - you will need to break up with food and see it only has a way to keep u alive and once in a while eat something really good but only have a little or u will pay dearly in nausea and pain. U will start Turing to food with more flavor because u can only eat so much so u will want to enjoy it. Naturally thin people do not look to food a friend. 2. Start weight training as soon as u are ready - I started 1.5 months after surgery. I got a personal trainer because I’ve always been afraid of the gym but I was more afraid of loose skin. Although I do have some loose skin I’m in my 40’s - I look pretty good for loosing 100 pounds. I didn’t start cardio until after I lost most of my weight because I feel like I eat more with cardio. 3. If you start loosing your hair - don’t panic. I had my entire hand filled with hair for several weeks of showering. I thought I was going to die. It started 4 months from surgery. As a fat women - I ALWAYS had awesome hair so loosing it was HARD. I paid a lot of money for different fixes but it probably wasn’t worth anything. It slowed down and after a year and a half - it’s better - not back to 100% but I’m a good 90% normal. Try to embrace it and maybe cut it off to start a new you. 4. Would I do it again? HELL YES! Is it hard, yes. You can no longer count on food as a friend. You cannot eat and drink at the same time (makes me feel sick). I miss taking advil when I had live a pain. You have to watch your alcohol intake. If you over eat - u will pay and u want to die. However, I no longer will like I embarrass my family with my size, I can ride on rides at any amusement parks, I can climb stairs without stopping, I am seen by people without the look of pity, i don’t feel uncomfortable all the time, the list could go on for hours. You start a whole new chapter of your life. Best of luck

    BCBS Federal

Would probably be best to ask this as a new question rather than on an existing thread for fed insurance. Also be advised surgical programs have their own waiting lists and COVID may strike again so switching a plan that already has coverage to get surgery sooner may not be worth your time. My three month long wait from my insurance ended up being 17 months.

    Liquid diet

I have been on the two week liquid diet since Nov 14th surgery is the 28th and I agree its hell. Not so much because of the no food, i have adjusted to that pretty much but he sweetness of the shakes geez, i couldn't do it anymore so i go the unflavored protein powder and am just mixing it with water. I cannot do another sweet shake ughhhh. I m so grateful surgery date is in two days.
  22. One of my tipping points was when we went to a fancy italian restaurant for a family dinner and i barely fit in the booth so embrassing! I am scheduled for gastric sleeve in two days, Nov 29th. I have been on the two week liquid diet since Nov 14th and i am so ready!!!

    September surgery buddies!!

Hi I’m 17 days post op of having gastric ballon fitted… I’m still on shakes and soups… anything else I sick up?? Does this get better and when roughly? I go away in 3 weeks and really want to be able to eat normal food?? I’m debating of having it removed? Any help would be appreciated thank you
  24. Yes . It is harder then I thought it would be to change that habit of late night eating. So I now have resolved myself to saving about 200 calories to my late night snacking. I have also returned to making sugar free jello and having that as a snack or having a banana . I have also reduced my portions to 250- 300 g . It was eating puree just so I could eat larger portions. While also not pureeing my foods anymore. It is helping and starting to embrace and modify my old habit. Work with it and not let it become my burdin. Also this week I am now back to loosing weight again. I'm entering my 10 week post op. Pre op 2 week before 265bls Surgery day 250 lbs Current weight 225 lbs That's 40 lbs. In 21/2 months and I am happy and healthier and looking forward to continue on my journey to better health and weight loss .
