Here goes nothing...
SusieQ2019 replied to KimB7811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have severe high blood pressure issues for the past few years and I am always on blood pressure medication. These are guidlines: Efforts to lose weight with diet and exercise have been unsuccessful Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher Your BMI is 35 or more and you have a serious weight-related health problem, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or severe sleep apnea You should be ok. All the best! -
Thanks! Best of luck to you as well. I’m on 3 medications just to control it. Have had it for 12 years. I’ve been on a dr supervised weight loss program for almost 2 years now. Was really successful at first with the program but my body just stopped losing once again and is now gaining it all back rapid fire...which is why I’m turning to this. Plus it’s good I can prove I’ve attempted to lose weight and failed....fingers crossed

Weight Loss A Little Over 2 Months Out!
lmbordelon posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hey guys! I have lost 42lbs a little over 2 months out...about 11 weeks including pre-op. I was wondering if that is normal or am I just losing really slowly. I mean I feel fabulous...and I am working out 4 days a week. I am loving my new life! Just wondering how you guys did? -
Good question Pasquini...why ARE you holding on to it? This is not like before when you lost weight and then needed those bigger sizes because you gained it back again. Our sleeves are like FAT insurance. They won't let us eat like we used to and all that weight you have lost is truly lost this time. Lost ...as in...not going to EVER find it again! Getting rid of all those too big clothes made room in my closet for the skinny clothes I had been saving! I did save 1 pair of size 20 pants...just as a reminder of how far I have come. But being a seasoned thrift shopper, I know it can be hard to find those bigger sizes in decent shape. All the best to whomever gives my too big clothes a new home. Moving on and not looking back! Living the dream, Laura

Hello rmm345, How did the surgery go? I am like you, low BMI, in my 20s and getting surgery in January 2021. I'm also a bit concerned about the loose skin.. Did you loose weight fast? Slow? How did it go? Sent from my SM-G986B using BariatricPal mobile app

Five weeks out and starving. Had two small fills and won't get another one for at least another month. Surgeon believes in taking it slow. I have to do the weight watcher program or I'll eat everything in sight. 10 pounds in 5 weeks suck but better than going the other way. I also could be exercising to much and putting on muscle. I'm in it for the long haul so I try not to get discouraged when I see how much weight you guys have lost. No side effects from day one. I would never known I had surgery unless I look at my scars. Take care Erin, hope you are feeling better soon. I use two benefiber packets (citrus punch) in 32 oz of water and sip on that and it keeps me regular. I would be in pain without it.

abingdongirl- i am also a full month out of surgery, i'm supposed to get my first fill next wednesday, but i'm not sure if im ready for it yet =/ i started my regular foods already, but its hard to chew anything now cause im pretty sure i have a cavity on each side of my mouth, sucks! and the earliest i can get in to my dentist is sept. 26th, sometimes it hits the cavity and makes me wanna stop eating and i haven't even ate much so heh. the good thing is, is that i'll most likely beable to come home for lunch everyday and i wont have to go back to school for the rest of the day. i'm asking my councelor for an early dismissal for everyday cause i'm gonna drop cosmetology this year and just take it next year, it'll make it a lot easier for me, i'm not as scared as i was to go back to school now, phew! yes and i have a class i really like which is drawing and painting two, since i'll most likely have an early dismissal, i'll only have 6 class periods and i'll be coming home at 12, theres 9 class periods in a full school day, i just have to find out what i'm going to do when i get home to keep me busy, i'm thinking of walking and i need something else too. i never ate lunch at school, i only brought a nature valley bar and water or something else. i have study hall everyother day and gym the other i was thinking of bringing something on my study hall days, but i'll be home for lunch thanks (: baferg01- that happens to me too sometimes. but sometimes i'll feel restricted and others i wont. it could be a possibility youd need a fill. its okay (: yeah i burped and it didnt help O.o i will try the flat coke sometime ToomuchRN- when i started regular food i didnt gain anything or lose anything good luck on your fills guys im not sure if im ready for my first one yet

Hey! I'm almost at 5 weeks and am feeling pretty good. I have the same type of thing around my incisions. They're not very itchy but a little red and flaky. The doctor said they looked normal so I'm trying not to worry myself. Milk of Magnesia was my method of choice for not being able to do my duty. I took it for a couple days in weeks one and two but haven't had to since. Not being able to go to the bathroom can actually make you feel naseuous so maybe that's contributing. Try adding some milled flax seed to your yogurt (or anything creamy really). The nutritionist said it was a good fiber choice because it's already broken down. Also, the high fiber wheat thins instead of crackers. They're really tasty and may help keeping you regular. As for the pickle...YES...it totally can help an upset stomach. My little brother actually turned me onto pickle juice when I was younger and I started to notice that whenever I had any nausea, it was the only thing that could make it feel better. Anyone stalled in their weight loss right now? I hit the 21 lb mark then stopped losing and actually gained a few pounds back. I know this is the healing time but I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this or has any tips about it.

Need help getting back on losing
DLCoggin replied to copmom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Total agreement here - start maintaining a food log. Quick, easy, increases your confidence, creates accountability, allows you to manage your weight instead of your weight managing you, and backed by numerous research studies that have consistently shown that loggers lose more weight, lose it more quickly and are more successful at maintaining their goal weight. You can see other thoughts on logging in the "Food Logs Discussion" thread. -
Hey there! I am a pre-sleever......going through the ropes right now - the supervised weight loss......possible surgery in June, 2017....I live in Kitsap County and would like to start a support group of pre, post sleevers in this area.....so much of this surgery is being done I think it is important to have support. If you are interested in getting something started you can contact me at 360.265.7485 or email me at Medwoman58@yahoo.com....Subway on Sedgwick has a private room that we could commune in.....I know there is one going on in Lacey.....I will attend the first one - but it's at 6 to 8 pm in the evening and as I'm getting older I don't like driving far when it is dark.....Iknow that sounds silly....however, in the summer when it is light out until 10, then that will be a different story....but something more local for Kitsap residents or Gig Harbor would be wonderful! Hope to hear from you guys! Blessings, Suzy

So, I have a question for those of you that have already been approved. My surgeon's ask my PCP for 5 years of weight records. Well, I can only come up with 4. I have reached out to the surgeon's office to see if this was a problem. She told me that most companies only actually look at the last 3 years but she would look in to the specifics of my insurance and get back to me. I am a nervous wreck and would hate to have come this far for me not to get approved over 1 year.....I have 2017, 2016, 2015 & 2014....does anybody have any experience with this situation? I have Tricare Reserve (standard). I am suppose to get sleeved in early July....I don't want any set backs now!! Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

full feeling after fills
Erin18 replied to anjilmist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm wondering the same thing, I just got a half a cc on wednesday, so now I'm at a total of 6cc or 7cc. I've been doing halfs because one of the fills I got was way too tight a few months ago. And now I'm wondering if mine is too since the last time I got a fill and this past week will make a full cc, I cant eat solids and liquids will be slightly hard to get down too, but they go down yet I have had this bubble feeling like a gas bubble since Thursday and it won't go away, it went away once because I kept forcing liquids down so I didn't get dehydrated or something but it came back later that night. It feels like I need to burp and I try but then it feels like vomit o.O.It makes sounds too ahh I've been only having liquids. I thought it was because my stomach was swollen. I forced myself to vomit (tha'ts not good, I know =/) today to see if it would help and it didnt. So should I wait it out and see if it goes away? Or should I just tell my doctor? I don't want to take it out because for once it's helping me to not eat so much and I'm actually losing weight again. And Sorry for posting this on your thread, but if someone is has pretty much the same prob I am, I thought I'd add it =/ -
If I want to thicken up just a lil bit, could I just skip a few workouts and gain? My post op sleeve buddy says she kept losing even when she didn't want to and even while pregnant, she continued to lose. Is there a way to gain easily? My concern is getting too small and then having personal issues with that. Being skinny has no appeal to me...I don't want this surgery to heal my issues physically then cause mental issues that I've never dealt with before. How much control do we have with the sleeve?

2 1/2 Lb Weightloss In Month A Half.
luvlife replied to purpleamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep your head up! Maybe try changing your diet? Add more or less or change the intensity of your workouts? I don't know how far out u are or how much u have left to lose, but keep at it and don't give up! You will be losing weight in no time again. Think of how far you have come.... -
My surgery was May 12, 2012, weight on that day 316. Today I weigh 174, but I have been sick every since my surgery. I have no energy and just want to start enjoying the new me, but I found out last week I am going to require surgery in the next few weeks. They are going in to look at the bowels to see why are not working properly, refix a huge hernia on my belly, retighten the abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin. This may or may not help, and I am so scared of losing this fight to be thin and healthy. I will leave you with my before at my highest weight of 400 and the current me. Also a picture of the ugliest tummy in the world. Of you look at the upper right side on the pic you can see the bulge from the hernia. I am do embarrassed by my tummy!!!
-
Kristi the hernia was from back surgery 3 years ago. The went through my tummy. I then went 2 years ago to fix the hernia. After the hernia surgery I got staph and it took me right at a year to recover. After that the hernia came back. Then I went to a new surgeon to get it fixed again. That doctor Dr Jeffery Lord said losing weight first would be a great help. So I let Sr Lord do the gastric bypass. It was during per op test we first heard that the bowels were extremely slow. I go 2 weeks sometimes between vowel movements. The gastric bypass is the best thing I have ever done for me. All the other was present prior to surgery.

Octosleevers - What Is Your Pre-Op Diet?
OneManWolfpack posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello fellow OctoSleevers (and everyone else)! As I approach my one month until surgery countdown, I just wanted to get a general idea from others what your pre-op diet recommendations are by your doc and/or nut. Like how long before must you start, when do you start liquid only (if at all), or if there is a goal weight loss (or % of total weight) needed prior to surgery proceeding. My doc gave me a "general guideline" of 5% weight loss pre-op, with a low carb / high Protein diet (like a Protein shake for BF and lunch then a "sensible" dinner of a small portion of lean protein and a veggie) starting 2 to 4 weeks pre-op (depending on total pounds needed to lose), then liquids only for 3 days pre-op. He said the typical reason given is to shrink the liver pre-op (although it is unclear how much this is really needed), and more importantly, to ensure that the patient can actually follow a restrictive intake program, which is what we'll be doing post-op and really for the rest of our lives. Anybody else have recommendations given to them that vary greatly from this? Thanks and good luck to all! -
Hit the 100 pound mark today!

Thanks! Been doing cardio for a while now. I’m starting weights next week. -
Not only are you losing at an impressive rate (1.5 pounds a week, as Leigha pointed out), but you've lost **35%** of your excess body weight. WOW! You should be proud, proud, proud! My surgeon wants a lower percent than that gone in ONE YEAR. Remember that where you are is better than where you were 35 pounds ago. Don't give up! Go find someone who hasn't seen you in six months, and you'll perk up in NO TIME!

Lose, Lose, Lose Gain?
jerz replied to Toby Michael's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight fluctuates and a gain doesnt mean fat. It could be muscle, need to eliminate bodily waste or just plain Water. I've gained 4 lbs overnight plenty of times and 2 days later, it's gone. Don't stress, it's normal. HW:358 DOS:338 CW:275 SD:1/28/13 -
It is always best to lose as much as you can. It makes your recovery much easier on you. Also, makes the surgery so much smoother for the surgeon. It shrinks your liver making it easier for the surgeon to work around. Any weight you can lose will only benefit you!! I lost almost 60lbs before my surgery and mine was successful and I have had no complications or troubles. I was able to go back to work in only 7 days and I feel great! My dr. said that he wished all of his paitents would follow his advice as I did! I also don't have very far to get to goal!! DOUBLE BONUS!! Do what you can to get some weight off before surgery. It will make your life easier afterwards Best of luck to you! Kelly

I've lost 130 but I still have about 100 to go, so it is bound to get worse, but the main area of loose skin I have is my lower belly and inner thighs, and right at the bottom of my very big butt. My arms have very little loose skin but they're also not a place I carry much fat. My breast aren't too bad so far.. I had a breast reduction in 2003, but I'm still pretty big on top and I never lost a ton of weight in my breasts before either. That being said, who knows what will happen in another 100 pounds, but considering I started at almost 400 pounds my loose skin is not bad at all. I am going to be 50 in August, and haven't decided if I'll do any skin removal surgery, except maybe my lower stomach because I get rashes there. For one thing, I paid out of pocket for my wls, and I don't really have the budget to pay out of pocket for plastic surgery. Also, I feel like what's the point at my age. I mean, I feel like a very young 49, but still. I'm pretty secure in myself after many years of struggle with that, and I just feel in a good place, loose skin or not. Also, my biggest reason for wls was my health and as long as I am healthy I will be pretty happy! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

The 5:2 diet originated in the U.K. and gained popularity around 2012 following a BBC broadcast. It involves eating a normal diet five days a week and a very low calorie diet two days a week - 500 calories for gals and 600 for guys. It is often referred to as "intermittent fasting". There are virtually no long-term clinical studies that have been done regarding safety and effectiveness. This is a link to information originally published by the National Health Service in the U.K. in Jan 2013 and updated in May of 2013 - http://www.nhs.uk/news/2013/01January/Pages/Does-the-5-2-intermittent-fasting-diet-work.aspx . The bottom line appears to be that there are more questions than answers. It would likely be a very good idea to discuss it with your surgeon before adopting the diet. It may not be suitable for folks with diabetes and possibly other pre-existing conditions. What I call the "Prime Directive" of weight loss surgery is the all important lifestyle changes. I believe that to qualify as a lifestyle change, any potential course of action must meet three criteria - it must be healthy, realistic and sustainable. It's about control, not denial. Adopting a lifestyle that focuses on proper nutrition and a calorie intake appropriate for where you are at in your journey, from rapid weight loss to maintenance of your goal weight, is perhaps a healthier, more realistic and more sustainable goal than any "diet".
