I noticed that during a pause in wt. loss my clothes still got loose. It's something else to encourage you during a pause in weight loss...

Thanks all, it's a wonderful feeling to be overweight! I don't dare hope that I'll ever be "normal" weight according to the height/weight charts, since that would require me to drop almost another 30 pounds, which -- with my build -- just ain't happening. But now, if I ever have to fill out one of those singles/dating profiles, I don't feel guilty saying that I'm "about average" in shape. Huzzah!

My surgery is May 5th excited but sooooo nervous! Who else is scheduled for that day? No doing any pre op diet other than eating lots of protein. Having lots of food funerals, I have the Lapband so they unfilled it 5 months ago when revising to sleeve was decided, gain 20 pounds since! Nervous but ready for my sleeve!

YIKES!! I had to have an complete unfill today I have been banded for almost 2yrs in June and I have lost almost 120lbs. But over the last week I had a very bad cold and lots of mucus. My band got really tight and I did a lot of throwing up and could not get anything down. So now I have to wait a few weeks to get a fill put back in. I am so scared!! I don't want to gain a lot of weight back. Other than that I LOVE my BAND

You are early in the process and it isnt unusual for people not to lose much weight if any and to still feeling hungry. Most people dont start to feel less hungry and more restricted till they have a few fills under their belt. You have already lost a good amount of weight so dont be impatient, the average should be 1 to 2 lbs weekly .. just keep doing what u are doing and u should be fine and dont be too disappointed if u dont feel much after the first fill, many people dont ...

I am sorry you are going through all of this, I can relate. The best advice I can give you is be kind to yourself, keep up with or increase your exercise and drink drink drink drink!!!! You will be too busy peeing to eat!!! If the worst case scenario happens and you gain 10, 20, 30 pounds, it just means your band has been working the way it should and it is on vacation. When your rest break is over and you get the band functioning again you will simply become a bandster again and will lose the gained weight. Hang in there. I wish you well,Mimi

You just have to stay focussed, logically if you dont eat more than you were eating, you wont gain weight. We've ALL stuck to diets for a few weeks. I've been unfilled for five months, and I felt your fear, it kept me awake at nights knowing I'd have to unfill (for a surgery). But you know, I found after five years banded, I had changed my habits. The weight hasnt piled back on and I fill in the extra stomach space with loads of salad and fruit and vegies, I actually am eating much better. I eat larger volume but similar calories since with a tight band you do tend to eat mainly calorie dense foods high Protein and fat and not large quantities of fibrous low fat foods that are full of Water - the fruit, vegies etc. And whatever you do, keep exercising! I've played around in the past few months with starting Body Pump, but for my body, it just hasnt been a success - my weight and body remains under control best with an hour's run a day, I like cardio and strength training doesnt do a lot for me, although that goes against all common wisdom of today. I do pushups and squats and I'm strong, but if I reduce cardio for strength trianing, I just gain weight and get bigger (can feel it in my clothes). I'd say that in a situation like yours where keeping fat off is your main goal, focus on the cardio and do LOTS of it.

Let me first say, you look amazing! Keep up the great work! I was sleeved in February and at about Month 3, found my appetite really getting larger. I am still eating a lot of protein 4-8 oz per meal but lately also saw a jump in my carbs. I got pretty lax over the past week (holiday cookouts) and didn't exercise as much and ended up gaining about 5 lbs. everyone is different so I would suggest just monitoring your macros to make sure your staying in the right nutritional zones set by your doc. And make sure to keep moving.

Nutritionist setting unrealistic goal for me?
allthatjazz4u replied to castiel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me research shows only 5% of patients make it to goal weight. And to remember the surgery is only a tool. The sleeve will help you loose 60-80% of your excess weight. He also told me to set small goals(ie. 10 lbs or 15 lbs a month) and do not think this is the "cure all". I wouldn't stress over lbs and time limits, you don't want to become discouraged. -
Just ordered a Healthometer weight scale 402LB from amazon.com.

Anyone have suggestions on a good quality scale? I have been reading product reviews and I can't seem to find one that has rave reviews. My biggest concern with my current scale, and many of those I have seen reviewed, is that I can get on and it tells me one weight. Then I get off and back on again and it's a different weight, by up to 4 lbs. For instance, this morning it said I was down 3lbs. Ten minutes later it said I was up 9lbs after eating or drinking nothing. I wanted to go lay back down for another ten minutes but I didn't want to gain another 9lbs. So, I welcome your suggestions. Ideally I would like something to keep track of my previous weight but I'm more concerned with accuracy. Thanks!

Welcome to Banster HELL!!! Dont worry it will get better after a few fills (maybe more) when you reach restriction the weight will come off...

Hello all, i know that this is a long post, but I would really appreciate your responses. I am in a real shitty situation! I had the Gastric Sleeve Surgery back in July of 2016, which makes it 8 months post op. At first everything was going well, the first month I lost 18 lbs, the second month I lost 6, then the third 5, then the fourth stayed the same, then it was Thanksgiving and Christmas (Holiday Season) and thats when it all went down hill. I stayed the same weight until after christmas. At this point up to christmas I lost about 30lbs in 5 months, and now I gained some weight and my total weight loss is 22 lbs, so I gained 8lbs from december until now (March 29th). I really want to start losing the weight again, but im afraid that it won't come off as fast as it would have closer to surgery. In 4 months it will already be a year! -
Hi all  70 days to go, and after the last 7, they can't go fast enough. This past week it is confirmed that i have diabetes, hypertension and severe sleep apnoea. Not bad for someone that just thought they had a weight problem. I think tho, that i am very fortunate to have no had these diseases until the last while, and they they have been caught early on it seems. My lapband operation really can't come quickly enough from a health perspective for me. My G.P. and surgeon are not so concerned, assuring me these problems will almost certainly disappear once i have been banded and lost weight. All the medications i need are in place and i feel ok. I am not sure what i expected, but only the CPAP machine for the sleep apnoea bothers me. I am just trialling it, for this week and the nice feller will help me with my concerns after that. Speaking of which, it's late and i am back at work in the morning. So best, i go and get the gear on and try and get some rest. Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for being there. Cya soon

Today was My 3 month bandaversary
DianaG replied to beedo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow!!!Congrats on the fast weight loss. I am one of the slow losers....I had my surgery last July and am down only 60 lbs. That's a bit slower than my surgeon wants me to lose, but he tries to adjust the band to where I can lose no more than 3 lbs or less than 1 pound a week. He really likes it when I lose 2 lbs a week. So I am going to have to go back for another fill soon. I have 7cc's in my 10cc band now and hope that the next fill gets me closer to the "sweet spot". I am really impressed with your will power and the weight loss. Don't think I could stand a whole pound of baby carrots, even though I like them a lot!! -
Years after surgery
Ms skinniness replied to Wendy pokrzywa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 6 years out. The only issue is my head hunger. I still have to watch my calories. I gained 30 lbs by drinking frappacinos and then the sugar monster came on. It is still a lot of diligence. -
1/3 bottle at Breakfast -Lunch - Dinner; then all the crystal light I wanted. Initially my doctor's goals was 60 gr of protein -- then at post op appt asked me to up to 100gr and now at 120gr. I just recently heard the "taking in more than 25 g. of protein at one time is dangerous for your kidneys" but I wonder if that is for those at ideal weight -- seems a person 300lbs or more would need more?? Something to research! Wishing you the very best!

Seminar First / Medicaid Woe
bleonhardt replied to purrball's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't heard of an exception as most insurance companies, even private such as mine, require you to be on a medically supervised weight loss plan for months prior to the surgery. Sometimes if you have already given it a shot to lose on your own and that is well documented in your medical records over the last 5 or so years I have heard insurance companies approving pretty quickly. I wish you all the best on your journey! -
I'm in my 7th month. I've lost 90 pounds since I went on the liquid diet. I have had about 30 seconds of regret - it is always followed by a massive dose of gratitude that I'm not carrying around a massive amount of weight that I could not lift. It isn't easy, that's for sure. I could always stand to eat a whole pizza or a half box of pasta. But I have come to love a whole new set of foods. I try to focus on how much better I feel. I'm off my metformin, and my blood pressure meds are cut in half. My life is different in every way. Please focus on the good stuff. It will get better. Keep going.

Kaiser does great follow up. Today I had a 2 1/2 month appointment with dietician and physician assistant - here is 1. Vitamins - take the 1,500 mg a day on top of amount you get in foods. 2. Carbs - said don't do just a low carb diet, they had a few that did low carb diets and while they lost weight they caused problems because they were not eating the right foods and their lab results for vitamins and minerals were way off and causing other problems so they got them to eat normal. 3. Eat 3 real food meals and use Protein shake or Protein Bars for the between meal Snacks. Keep to 1/4 cup protein, 1/4 cup vegetable, 1/4 cup fruit and 1/4 cup starch/carb. Eventually the between meals snacks go away. 4. Calories - get 1,200 calories per day, extra protein or carbs before working out. Trainer says carbs before and protein after. 5. Weighing - keep vigilant, weigh once every couple of days to monitor process just don't become obsessive with doing it 3 times a day. Keep from putting on weight by monitoring it. 6. Even for Men, use Women's One a Day as it has more Calcium and Iron, something Men's One a Day doesn't have. I was sleeved on August 4, 2011 at 233 pounds as of October 26, 2011 I am down to 196 pounds for a 54% excess body weight loss. The expected loss for 1 to 2 years is 50 to 55% so I have already met the full goal of the sleeve surgery and now on my back on my own to lose weight through diet and exercise. This was done by sticking to diet plan (at least 90% of the time) for post op. Had labs done today and so far results coming in good. Good luck everyone, we can do it.

Reccomend Dr's in Dayton Ohio area
emjay replied to tryingtofindme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your decision. I live up in the Northern Miami Valley and went to West Chester to Cincinnati Weight Loss Center (Dr. Watkins). I really like him and his support staff is wonderful! You get the full package with his practice and he stresses how important it is to get all the support you need and has support groups in Cincinnati, Maria Stein and Columbus. My SIL went to Dr. Alison Clarey and seems pretty happy. I really don't know much about her. My cousin went to Dr. Schumacher, so you have a variety of choices. I guess I prefer what I know, but they have been absolutely wonderful to me and very accommodating with their office hours (Saturdays open 8-4 pm for fills) and evening hours. I've never had to take any time off of work for adjustments. Best of luck with your decision. It's the best one I've made other than marrying my hubby. -
