I have used Genepro along with other protein powders since my surgery. I had my labs drawn at 6 months and my protein was excellent! I only get about 20 proteins with food since I cannot eat enough to get in 80 grams of protein. My way of thinking is if it wasn't working my protein levels would have been way low because I count it toward my daily protein intake. And I have had no hair loss or any other side effects. So for the me it WORKS! And I will continue the use of Genepro. And no I don't don't work for them nor am I paid by them. Just my experience. -

My doc has stated that my urine is flooded with protein on the second occasion she recommended I decrease my intake due to high ketones as well. We were testing due to extensive hair loss and they determined it was due to the anesthesia. I am also shocked that the Genepro has such a small serving size; but so far it seems to work well for me. -

Do you know what happens when you start removing hydrogen atoms from a molecule? You completely change what a thing is. Start with hydrogen peroxide....remove one hydrogen and you get Water....remove two more hydrogens and you make oxygen. Or start with formaldehyde....remove two hydrogens and you have carbon monoxide. Now think of what happens when you take protein molecules and start stripping off hydrogen atoms. What's left is certainly not protein. Your body responds to hydrogen peroxide and water and oxygen in very very different ways. You can take in all the oxygen you want...it's still not water. I would speculate that eating a molecule that used to be protein but has had its hydrogen molecules removed so it no longer resembles protein in taste, odor or physical properties is not protein. He said it himself, they turn baseballs into golf balls. But when it comes down to it, a golf ball is not a baseball. Just like GENEPRO is not protein, at least as far as human biochemistry is concerned. They STILL have not provided any scientific evidence that our bodies can utilize this "stable molecular structure". A simple pre and post protein serum level study would at least start to settle the controversy. But apparently the company's marketing ploys are so successful they don't actually need PROOF. -

Thank you maybe people will quit being so critical of GENEPRO. I am a long time user and I love it.

Im almost certain the reason they're allowed to label it 30g of protein is because it has two asterisks next to it, stating **equivalencies based on the clinical trial (which i linked above). Even GENEPRO doesnt claim it has 30g of protein, because it absolutely doesnt. It literally states equivalency based upon THEIR clinical trial (that they paid for). Im surprised more nutrition companies haven't employed this tactic Its really not a huge deal though, and likely would make little to no difference unless youre getting the majority/almost all of your protein from Genepro. But if youre taking 1 serving of the stuff a day, its a moot point imo

I usually try to get 1.5 servings of fruit per day and I always try to get some veggies in. Right now since I'm close to 7 weeks post-op revision to RNY, I am still keeping it in liquid form so I make a protein shake. I put a tablespoon of Genepro, baby spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 4-6 strawberries (sometimes add plums and/or mango) with unsweetened almond milk (or lowfat kefir) and ice in a blender. Vegetables I've been either air frying zucchini or putting napa cabbage, spinach... Etc. in my broths.

Why do protein drinks taste awful?
shedo82773 replied to Véronique's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
They argue that GENEPRO doesn't have the amount of protein they advertise. They say that the Company has lawsuits against them and they lost the last case. I ask them why even BARIATRIC STORE sells it, they are a huge company and you would think they stand behind this product. I just wanted to let u know. I will always use GENEPRO. It's the best I have found for myself. So now u know if u get pounced on. Lol -
Why do protein drinks taste awful?

The sad sad story of Protein Drinks At first it is so hard to drink it fast but as I went along I got to where I could do them like a shot. LOL I would hate to know how much $$ I have wasted trying to find one that I could do. Now I am 4 years out and I have tried pretty much all of them. ISOPURE was one that whoever can drink it I commend. Premuir gave me te " back door trots" I used them for Preop for 2 weeks and 4 weeks Postop. GROSS I kind of went thru a phase of Muscle Milk Protein, I mixed the gramcracker protein with Bananna Kind of tasted like a bananna Pudding. But I couldn't find the gramcracker so I gave up on that one. I use GENEPRO everyday. Now I'm not telling you to run out and buy it, you need to check with your DR first. I don't want to stir you wrong. But I LOVE IT!!! I use it in my Espresso everyday. It has no taste, even makes my espresso taste creamy. I have to get a warm amount of water to temper it before I add it to my coffee. No lumps and no taste. It does have a small odor. I jus don't smell it. LOL Since my surgery I have a very good smeller. LOL Have a wonderful Friday. -
Also I got the unjury starter pack to try some flavors. It is a personal think I only like their chicken and unflavored and I am not even trying strawberry because that is not my thing. I have 4 individual packs of 3 flavors. If anyone interested DM me and I can drop in envelope to you! Ps: I tried GENEPRO and their company site and story are just too bizarre but to each their own!

Hi Folks. I was sleeved 7/17. Just started puree and tried to eat in a restaurant. Tried to puree in my mouth. That didn't work. I'm having trouble getting water in. With you on the genepro I can taste and I'm so tired of it. I'm trying to go fully natural on puréed so I don't have to have shakes. I'm so tired of sickly sweet things. I've always struggled getting enough protein. Excited to be on this journey with you all. Eman

Gastric Bypass peeps, how did you deal with these ingredients post op?
Elidh replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had no problems with those foods, either. I did not try almond milk or Isopure (I did Genepro occasionally for a few months, mixed into refried beans, etc.). -
This stuff is great. They have "extra strength" versions of it so if your worried about protein, Muscle Milk will get you to where you want to be. I am 4 days post up and I got in 100 grams of protein yesterday. I drank two different Muscle Milks (one was the extra protein version), and I had 3/4 of a can of cream of chicken soup with 1tbsp of genepro non flavored protein powder. The rest of my day was water and vitamins. So far, so good! My favorite part of Muscle Milk is that it is available a lot of places. I can just grab one at Walgreens or 711 anytime! Hope that helps. Good luck everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I can not go above 600 cal. usually between 470 - 600 per day . My surgeon was Dr. Nguyen. My starting weight 334 lbs, surgery weight 311, todays weight 283 lbs , total lost 51lbs, 23 pre-op and 28 post op. I do recall that I was really scared, I am not a fan of surgeries but the anesthesia kicked in and the surgery happened. I was told that it was like 90 minutes, the doctor called my family as well the recovery nurse they kept them informed all the way. I woke up in the recovery room, they have around 2 people per nurse. I actually felt ok no pain or nausea, the nurse told me that she was surprised as almost everyone will wake up with nausea. From there they wait until I actually was able to walk and go to the bathroom and then I was moved to the room upstairs. I was given morphine and something for the nausea on the IV. Pain was bearable I was encouraged to walk as soon as possible I did and it was ok no pain at all . I was release from the hospital after one night with some acid reducers and pain medication. I trew up once while in the hospital and once at home beside that nothing much to say. I am very tolerant to pain so my recollection might not be the normal What was more difficult was to find a protein powder that I do like, I end up doing some research and the only ones that I do like is Genepro which I order in amazon and premier protein which i do get at cotsco , this week I started to eat soft foods which made a huge difference as I do not depend as much on protein powder. I also started taking prune juice diluted to avoid constipation which helped greatly. Recovery was uneventful , I felt very tired the second week I had to take naps after that the third week I was back to normal What I can tell is while I was scared I have followed every instruction from the doctor and dietician the weight keeps melting and also the pain, I had knee, ankle and shoulder pains due to my weight , it has been the best decision ever . This Friday I have an appointment for follow up with my dietician , I hope it goes ok.

Favorite Pre-Op Protein Shake Brand?

Syntrax Matrix in Fuzzy Navel and in Cookies & Cream!! also GENEPRO unflavored and premier Protein (Chocolate) -
I have checked GENEPRO out I also got kicked in the teeth from some on here. Also, when I said to concentrate on her fluids I am just stating what my DR and Nutritionist had told me. Yes, Protein Drinks count as fluids so I agree there try and try again. But...like I said it doesn't take long to become dehydrated which in turn is horrible. When your fluids up she may feel like she can add more of her protein. There are other nonflavored proteins out there. I think INJURY carries one. Whatever it takes. I'm sorry if I offended anyone on here. I will still use my GENEPRO. It works for me!! Have a good one!!

Here is the link to the lawsuit https://www.leagle.com/decision/infdco20171213e89 And there is no industry standard for "Medical grade protein" it's just a made up term they've concocted to sound more impressive than they really are, that's in the lawsuit as well. "Further, Plaintiff maintains that GenePro's marketing and packaging statement that it contains "medical grade" protein is incorrect, false, and misleading, as no industry or FDA standard for "medical grade" protein exists. 3 Weeks Post Op - Are chips and Guacamole allowed?
trekker954 replied to iam_yamii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Mexico this week for work. At the breakfast buffet, put a smidgen of refried beans on my plate. Ooooo, must be a chili in there. The guac was delicious though. I'm hoping the business lunch will have good offering of protein. I'll bring a packet of genepro with me just in case. As I progress, I notice I do get hungry if I go 3 hours without protein. At home this won't happen but on travel it does. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.
lacylou replied to Misty Barnhart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another day down and I'm still here. I was terrible at getting Water in today, just hurt a lot. I did boost my Proteins so I'll pat myself on the back for that today and get much more focused tomorrow with water. Interestingly I have been having to pee a lot - I'm chalking that up to losing all of the IV Fluid pumped into me at the hospital. My hands, wrists, and feet aren't swollen anymore (thank goodness). I tried unsweetened apple sauce with some GENEPRO powder and it was terrible. Who says that stuff is flavorless? I went to the grocery store with my husband and the after taste was so bad I unwrapped a SF popsicle in Aisle 7 and munched away (took me 20 minutes to eat the thing but who is counting) In the midst of all the SuperBowl party foods that are out (I live in MA - go Pats), I got a lot of weird stares for eating the popsicle in the store like a little kid. I thought it was kinda funny. I went for a mile walk holding my water bottle and trying to take a sip every few feet but that didn't work as well as I would have liked. The nausea has subsided considerably - yeah me! January sleevers - keep the info coming!! -

Yes I'm on liquids until day 16 *sigh* I'm still trial and error with everything so far the only things I like are sf pudding, fudgesicles, and my crystal light, still trying to find a Protein powder I like because as of now I use GENEPRO but don't know if I should trust it has 30 grams or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My doctor's office recommended a product called unjury. You have to order it from their website, but they deliver quickly. I like them because they have a sample pack for about $21, and you get 2 packets each of their protein shakes, 2 of their chicken broth, and 2 unflavored. The kit also comes with a mixing plastic tumbler and a thermometer. This way I can try it inexpensively. So far, I've tried the soup and it was good! Just a recommendation. Can you have too much protein?
betsy_1990 replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use Genepro also and I checked with my NUT and she said it was fine. I like it because it's only a Tbsp for 30gm or protein and it really doesn't alter the taste of things. -
Appetite back with a vengance!

Hi Michelle. I use the genpro 2nd generation flavourless protein which I bought from this website actually. It is 'supposed' to have 30 grams of protein, no sugar or carbs but I posted this in another thread and someone posted links that the company that owns genpro was sued in 2015 for not having the claimed protein in the powder. All I can say is that I HOPE that since it still continues to be sold and since its the reboot (2nd generation) that they have rectified this. Which may be wishful thinking...…...sigh. I do not see that is possible for protein to have 58.7 calories per scoop but no carbs? but that is what it says https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation I cannot access high grade protein powders in Barbados. I bought all of my supplies ahead of my surgery which was overseas and brought them back with me. They do have protein powders here but they are high carb and taste very grainy and don't have the flavourless kind, only vanilla, strawberry, etc. -
I just got GENEPRO unflavored Protein and have tried it in a few things. I do not taste it and after thorough stirring it dissolves. Only a half teaspoon adds 5 grams of protein. I ordered on Amazon. If your worried about flavor, add it to strongly flavored items and just add a little. Those extra grams will add up and help you feel better. Good luck.

When it comes to unflavored protein powders - are Unjury and Genepro TRULY unflavored? I tried Isopure unflavored and it was definitely not unflavored. It also made my Crystal Light thicker, which was gross. Please let me know what you think!!
