I can completely speak to this... The dreaded "3 week stall".... I posted regarding this about 2 weeks ago. I am a little over 6 weeks out (will be 7 on Thursday). I was/am getting my Protein, calories, and walking every evening. The one area I had a deficit in was getting my fluids in. I'm happy to say that I've finally broken through my stall. I've lost 4lbs since last Friday (today is Monday). I have lost a total of 42lbs since beginning my 2 week preop diet. I would like to mention that I took a week off of walking - not by choice, just random circumstance. I resumed walking this past Saturday and have increased my distance each night. I'm thrilled to have broken through this stall and elated that I am back on track. Hang in there! From what I understand everyone thinks the 3 week stall won't happen to them (and its more likely it will), and there's really not much you can do to mentally prepare for it. By the time you reach 3 weeks out, you've crossed over to the other side and as long as you follow the program prescribed by your doctor, you'll push through this and find yourself sharing your personal account with others like me! FINALLY found a way to break a stall!
BigTink2LilTink replied to Jewelgirl04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Me and another WLS friend are doing this starting today. http://5daypouchtest.com/plan/faq.html#9 I hope that it will help me get past my now 3 week stall. So far today I have only had Protein shakes and tomorrow will be the same. Wed I will be back on soft solids again and by Thrus/Frid regular food again. I hope that this will help so I can finally get to that 250 and under club for us giant guys. -
Don't worry, you'll come out of it. I stalled at the dreaded 3 week stall, then again a few weeks ago for probably at least a week, got back on the scale this past Monday (last Monday) and I have lost 5 in a week. I was so frustrated i couldn't stand it! Everyone here says you go down, then can stall then even go up then start losing again. And you're better than me because i am NOT exercising nearly at all. I've lost 45 since 4/2 10 pre-op the rest post op after 4/17. Transitioning to solids sometimes stalls you too, more waste- more poop, lol! I had to do a stool softener when I started solids.

And don't forget the inevitable 3 week stall as your body adjusts to all of the changes. You might want to do some research in this regard. There is lots of information on this site about it and it's good to know what you are getting into ahead of time. There will be lots of stops and starts along the way. One week you'll lose pounds, the next you might lose inches and the next .... nothing. But every day you follow your plan, you will feel so much better than you did before your surgery. Excercise. Listen to your NUT and don't compare your journey to any else. We're all different but this wonderful tool we have been given works when we use it the right way. So excited for you and your journey!

19 Days Post No Loss Is 6
PdxMan replied to louise aussie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Search the site for 3 week stall. This is very common and just one of the stages your body goes through post surgery. Don't worry. Very normal. -
The ~3 week stall/gain has hit. I'm so sorry that you are going through this - it is very frustrating. There are two good things about this (1) We've all been there and feel your pain and (2) This too shall pass. Keep your chin up!

1 Month Post Op Gastric Bypass
BigSue replied to April Raine's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my surgery a week before yours and my weight loss has been slow, too. I only lost 15 pounds the first month, I had my 3-week stall right on schedule, and I'm hoping to get to 20 pounds down by my 6-week follow-up (which is on Thursday). Even though I know that this is a decent weight loss, it is still so frustrating when I see all these people posting who started off at a lower weight than I did and lost twice as much weight in the first month. I guess we just have to be patient. Regarding the shortness of breath, I don't want to raise alarm, but that is one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19. Are you having any other symptoms like fever, cough, loss of taste/smell? Do you have a pulse oximeter at home to monitor your blood oxygen? You can get one on Amazon (or possibly at a pharmacy) and it can help you figure out if you need to get medical attention. -
I'm now 2 weeks out and I've lost 14 lbs since surgery, 36 since i started my pre-op. I'm feeling pretty good about it. I wish it was more, but we all wish that, don't we? I also have my time of month, so I know that's probably good for about 3-5 lbs. I have noticed, as my endo said I would that the adrenaline issues from the tumors on my adrenal glands is significantly LESS. The adrenaline created is partly in response to the grehlin created in the stomach. Hormones cause other hormones to do other hormonal things. When a person feels hungry, they have a survival instinct that kicks in brought about by adrenaline. Huh. makes sense. Happy with my progress thus far. Happy with my choice. Happy with my recovery. Just getting very happy these days I know I'm about ready for the 3 week stall, which I'm okay with. Its not like I can eat a cheesecake over it

End Of Week 3 And Up 1 Pound !
MinaT replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The one pound gain is absolutely normal. I gained a pound today and in the next few days I'll probably lose 3 or 4. It's normal, it's natural and it may be sodium, it may be hotter out by you, (sometimes heat causes Water retention). Sometimes it's your body catching up, it's also the time of day you weigh yourself. Lack of normal bowel movements is a big issue. We had water in and water out, and now I take metamucil and prescription amitiza and still need a suppository to go potty. It's as though I forgot how to poop without it being water. Relax, there are hundreds of posts regarding 3 week stall. This is normal. I stalled presurgery on 800 calories a day 80 grams of Protein and 45-75 carbs a day. On the days I ate LESS...and my exercise pretty much covered my food I would have a 3 pound INCREASE....then I'd be ticked off go out to Red Lobster, overeat and lose that 3 pounds plus another 3 pounds. It's perfectly normal. -
Breaking a stall with MORE calories?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Phobia42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost everyone has a 3 week stall. Your body is just resting there is no reason to try and break it. However, yes upping your calories can shock your body and get it back to losing. When I upped my calories at month 4 I think, I had my biggest loss. -
Tired of this thing called 'THE STALL'
RuthiieBabiie replied to RuthiieBabiie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Ya'll So yesterday I weighed myself and lost the 5 lbs that I gained, but I still consider myself still in a stall because I'm right back to where I was when I started stalling :-(. It will be 4 weeks on Monday and I'm a little worried because I have read about 3 week stalls not 4 weeks. I'm not upset like I was before but I will say that I'm a little hopeful as well. -
I know.. its crazy. I'm trying not to weigh myself everyday now. And after this 3 weeks stall, I have set my mind that I'm not gonna see any difference until its over. So no more weighing till next 2 weeks or so. Weighing everyday in hope of seeing less is driving me crazy. Just trying to keep up with the water intake, food and being more active. Wish you all the best for your surgery. Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

Let it pass. I didn't lose a thing from 7 days post til 22 days. I was enraged b/c I was self pay and thought I'd wasted all this money and put myself through surgery. Week 3 I lost 9 lbs. I guess my 3 week stall came week early! Try keeping off the scale for a week. Now that I've broken a stall each one is getting easier to handle because I know that it's just a matter of time. You'll start losing again as long as you stay on plan. Thank you this gives me hope. doesn't it just feel like forever? That's the hard part waiting for it to break. I sure hope it gets easier lol scale is away. I never owned a scale before should have kept it that way maybe it wouldn't stress me out as much lol Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App

How are fellow March sleevers doing?
Aworknprogress replied to ElseeG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 3/5 and I'm currently experiencing the infamous 3 week stall since my 3rd week I have been bouncing back and forth between 279&281 I hear its normal so I'm trying not to stress it.Just sticking to my meal plan and about to start working out at the gym tomorrow. -
Wow so that leaves a whole lotta nothing to eat! I suspect my reply may be a bit controversial, but for one thing I avoid anything that says fat free or low fat, unless that is naturally the case. Otherwise it usually means added carbs and fillers. I have adjusted my own diet to what has worked best for me in the past and that is.. a low carb, HIGH FAT diet. Yes really, high fat. I eat real butter, real mayo, bacon, sausage, whole milk yogurt, and the like. I know this is going to freak some people out (OMG THE RULES!) but know what happened when I got off the low fat bandwagon? I broke my 3 week stall immediately and dropped about 7 pounds in one week. I also experienced a great reduction in hunger! I did this at about the 2 month mark. Today is my 3 month surgiversary. So anyway I confessed my rebellious diet switcharoo to my nutritionist yesterday and she didn't have much to say about it other than maybe by eating more fat I was bumping myself out of starvation mode and needed the extra calories to break my stall. She may be partly right but I can't agree entirely because I am, as I keep saying, A Professional Dieter. I know my body better than anyone and how it reacts to various percentages of macronutrients. Doing Low Carb/High Fat in the past was by far the most successful plan for me. I was able to drop 50 pounds in 5 months, without surgery and reached my ideal weight in maybe 7 or 8 months. (How did I gain it back? I ate carbs again.) I guess my point is, in the end we should all do whatever works best for us. I learned pretty early that I was in no danger of dumping, I also learned pretty early, that carbs such as crackers, fruit, and even vegetables were causing me to stall, but that didn't surprise me because it's not the first time. Early on you should just do whatever your team tells you to do (there's not much chance of sticking to low fat, low sugar, and low salt tho - good luck with that) Once you are more "on your own", you can choose to continue following their rules if they are working for you, or make your own if that works better. I make sure my team knows what I'm doing, and as long as I'm getting such great results, I will continue doing what works. Ok go easy on me.

Not losing weight
himalaya62 replied to TropicalGirl1205's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and I had a 3 week stall. I thought I was going to lose my mind and then suddenly this week I lost 8 lbs. Just be patient. I knew I would have these stalls but they are so annoying. Take it easy on yourself. It will happen. -

I was still on liquids and was so pissed, lol. Like wtf, I'm not even eating food and I'm not losing anything. I told my nurse about it at my one month post and she said that our weight loss isn't perfectly linear, we lose weight in steps more than a straight line. Just stick to your plan, it'll happen!

Don't think any amount of reading about it prepares you for what you feel after! Your stall Def came early just like mine too. Ah thanks for your words it's great to just feel like I'm not a complete idiot and failure lol. I have done amazing at sticking to my plan so I think it makes me expect to just keep dropping the lbs lol but no. Not reality. Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App

Could my hormone injections cause my weight loss stall ? I am 4 weeks post op. I have read about the 3 week stall. I had surgery on Oct. 8 and I took my injection on Oct. 23 and have been stalled since then. I have lost about 20 pounds, but scales has not moved since injection. Very frustrated.

Depo-Estraidol Injections

This could be the famous 3 week stall period....... Eat healthy, drink a lot of water and exercise......... -
These are called 3-week stalls. They happen randomly. Some patients see them within the first month. Others see them around the 3rd month, 6th month or 9th month. They will happen multiple times during the course of your weight loss. Once the stall breaks, you will see a drop in weight.

Managing my expectations
BLERDgirl replied to kimmeesue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My advice is don't obsess over the weight. The scale is not your friend. Focus on eating healthy, getting your proteins and fluids in and finding some form of physical activity to do for 30 minutes each day. I only weigh myself once a t month at the doctors office. If I had a 3 week stall I was blissfully unaware. I am 4 mths out and every appointment has shown a loss. -
I had my sleeve 3 weeks ago tomorrow and I did great with the pre-op diet and the first 2 weeks after surgery I lost 39 lbs. However this week I haven't lost anything. I dont feel like I have screwed anything up but I don't know. I threw up last night after I ate for the first time since surgery but I felt so much better after I did. I think I had 1 to many bites. Has anyone else had a stall at 3 weeks post-op? Any suggestions or comments would be great. Thanks in advance.

Anyone else plateau 2-3 weeks post-op?

There are a lot of threads on here that talk about the 3 week stall. It is a thing and sounds like almost everyone has encountered it.
