  1. Your body becomes very, very efficient at using whatever calories you give it. This is incredible, if you were car or in a famine situation. It can be frustrating for those of us that finally reach goal weight and want to try and eat "normally". The article I linked below specifically is talking about the crash diet used by Biggest Loser contestants, and how it impacted their metabolism. Many WLS patients have similar impacts on their metabolism. That is one of the reasons you'll see people say that eating more and losing a bit slower is a good thing. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html?_r=0 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App VERY interesting. So in a nutshell, once your body gets used to the weight loss cals (700 or whatever) you no longer feel dizzy/sick because of eating so few. Sounds like basically your body compensates. So then once in maintenance you still need to stay pretty low because your metabolism has slowed. If you start eating like 1500, you will gain weight. Is that about right?
  2. me to. that's when I gain weight.
  3. I ONLY LOSE WEIGHT AROUND MY MENSTRUAL...WHY??? AM I TH ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH THIS??? AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO GO THROUGH THE SAME THING, HAVE YOU FOUND OUT WHY IT HAPPENS, AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO LOSE DIFFERENTLY....HELP!!!

    Plastics

I am hoping the body stuff will be okay (I am 60 and have no plans to parade around in a bikini) but I have already planned a face/neck lift once I reach goal. My face already shows damage from years of smoking and I am sure the wrinkles will get worse after I lose the weight. Plan to continue weight training, yoga and cardio to help the body as much as possible. I also don't want to go below 150 since that was my weight for years until my early 40s.

    Plastics

Someone I know had plastic surgery done after major weight loss. She waited two years and maintained her weight during those two years before going under the knife again for complete body reshaping and breast lift with breast implants.

    I need help...

With a knee injury, you should still be able to use a recumbent stationary bike, using your "good" leg. You can also do upper body and core weight training, as muscle burns a lot more calories at rest than fat. Can you see a personal trainer at a gym, at least once? They should be able to guide you on how to work out without further injuring your knee.

    Interview confidence

I am waiting to have an interview and i am so happy I got my band. If I was 315lbs going for this interview I would have no confidence and feeling like why bother? Now with 60 plus pounds gone I am not worried about my weight and I know I look good in my new suit I have a ways to go but I'm glad I'm here rather than there.

2nd lapband and still having issues

@@Short and Chunky I'm so sorry to hear about the slip and all that you are going through. I would want to know that the band is in the right place and working properly. Can you schedule a floro or barium swallow with your Dr? Then you can see along with the Dr. how quickly or slowly things are moving through the band and maybe adjust properly from there. I know there are several on here who have had their bands replaced with new bands, and I hope they will come out to give their experience and advice. All I can say is that I know since I had to have my band unfilled due to a dilation and then went back for fills I haven't felt the same, and weight loss is really non existent for me. I haven't gained but I am not losing either....I feel like I am at a stalemate right now.
  9. I had my Sleeve done on 3/16/2011 in 5 days I will be 12 weeks out. My weight came down nicely and fast! Yay! So now the issue becomes IM STUCK between 231 (morning) and 234 (by night). My Boyfriend brought a scale in the house and I cant keep off of it. I have weighed myself everyday morning noon and night from mid May till now and I am just not loosing as fast as I was. Is my body platouing?? I have started excersize Water aerobics, just started eating wheat bread again, and eating meat for Protein intake. I just cant digest Protein shakes so I dont drink them, I do drink 100% Cranberry juice all day, water make me hungry...What am I doing wrong? Am I being impatient?? Am I on the right track...Help

    Lost 37lbs and STUCK!

I'd start tracking all your calories and fat and protein on a site like sparkpeople. You may find that you aren't getting enough protein. Also, click on my ticker and you'll see my weight loss pattern. It's very stairstep-I'll be the same weight for a week or two then drop 4-5 lbs in a couple days!

    Skiinnn

Hey there @Skinnycows. I just turned 30, but had my RNY when I was 23 and 300 lbs. At 25 I was at my thinnest, and had lost about 175 pounds. The extra skin wasn’t bad at all...then I gained about 65 lbs. back, lost some again, and am now at 180. I do have extra skin, mostly around my upper inner arms, upper inner thighs, and stomach around my belly button. Also, my boobs have completely deflated. You can’t really tell I have extra skin with clothes on, unless I’m wearing a sleeveless shirt and lift my arms up (“wings”), but you can definitely see it without clothes on. I am not trying to discourage you or anything, just keepin’ It real. I’m a very self conscious, insecure person, so I think I’m hyper aware of my extra skin. My boyfriend doesn’t seem to mind at all! Also, I must admit that I didn’t work out and tone my body like I should have. My unsolicited advice to you... Please Don’t let this aspect of WLS be what makes you decide to to get or not get the surgery. When I got it, I was under the spell of wanting to LOOK better rather than FEEL better, and I was not ready to make the lifestyle changes I was I supposed to. Now I wish I hadn’t gotten it so young. Anyway, the skin should be the least of your worries! Depending on your insurance, cosmetic skin removal surgery might be covered if you keep the weight off for over 2 years. That’s what blue shield told me at the time, anyway. Hope this was helpful for you. Good luck with everything ❤️
  12. Hi all, I am in the insurance authorization stage. I'm 5'5" and I weigh 184 pounds. My goal weight is 120 (I'm a small framed woman). I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The dr. put me on meds for both, but the side effects are horrible and I don't want to take meds. My Dad had a stroke from high blood pressure at 55 and he passed away from heart attack at 61. My 68 year old Mom has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I feel like a walking time bomb. I've been overweight for the last 20 years (I'm 47) and I've tried every diet out there. I've lost weight and then regained it and I'm done with the rollercoaster. I want to get banded so that I re-learn how to have a healthy relationship eating the right amount of food for my body. My fear is that my insurance won't cover me since my BMI is 31 even though I have high BP and cholesterol and an awful family history. I hope and pray that the insurance will cover this. Thanks for letting me vent. Sandy
  13. I have been hearing a lot on this forum about slider foods. Can someone give me some examples...I want to make sure I am not eating them. Thank you and I love this forum...I learn a lot of things on here...Everyone keep up the good work...we have each other for motivation!!!!:scared2: Sorry know this may not be important but I did write this before i updated my signature...my current weight is 226...thank you.
  14. I go to my second weight loss class tomorrow. I am curious how much weight others lost at their second weigh in? -April [emoji3]
  15. My name is Haley. I'm 19 years old and I got the vertical sleeve gastrectomy on October 22. My surgeon was Dr. Boorse at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania. I choose to get the surgery because I have dealt with my weight all my life. I tried taking diet pills, did weight watchers and so on. But I always seemed to gain the weight back. What really hit me and made me choose to get the surgery would be my doctor telling me I was at a high risk for a heart attack. It made me think do I want to have a heart attack at the age of 19? So from then on I decided to change my life to a healthier life style than what I was use to. My highest weight was 265 pounds. The day of surgery I weighed in at 245 and as of today I weigh 180 pounds.

  17. I had a gastric bypass in 1982 with a lot of success and no problems. I lost over 100#. Unfortunately I gained my weight back most of it in the last 5 years. I'm looking into a new procedure that repairs enlarged gastric outlets plus decrease the pouch. Has anyone had this done? If so how did it go. Thank-you
  18. OK...I got the results from the endoscopy...band is OK in normal position and no problem. I wish there would have been. It might have helped expedite the switch to Vertical Sleeve. So the doctor told me I don't qualify for the sleeve as I don't weigh enough. I would have to gain weight to get my BMI to 40. At least 20 pounds! Who wants to do that. And then I would have to lose weight before the VS procedure. It's like I am back to square one. I also would have to have the psych eval again and other pre surgery exams and tests. AND to see if I qualify to even proceed I need to get an upper GI (had one 1 year post op) and a sleep apnea test. This would be to see if I have any issues that would qualify me w/o the 40 BMI. I think my insurance company will cover me if I meet the qualifications. I thought having a revision would be a lot easier. Anyone else go thru this? The doctor seems pretty positive that I will qualify one way or another. I am SO bummed. I almost feel like having the band removed and call it quits and go back to regular weight loss means.

    pre op diet

Everybody keep saying liquids but my doctor didn't say that when I start on 14th. He just said Don't gain weight and Do a low no carb basically. No bread no fried foods or Pasta. I can eat meat as long as it's grilled or boiled and plenty of veggies. Please let me know what you'll are doing so I can try also. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

I was banded in 1996 and lost weight several times the lowest weight I got to was 70kg(140lb) but alas I had the Fluid removed for a baby and gained back all of my weight... then I had fluid put back in 2001 but had too much and as I wrote the first time I had too much salvia and I couldnt cope... I thought I could take care of my weight again by myself... Hence I was filled yesterday again... Fingers crossed this time Andee
  22. Can someone help with my weight gain??? Please!! I had my sleeve surgery two and half years ago and for about two years I stayed the same weight...125 lbs. However about two months ago...my weight went up to 137 lbs and my frame is filling out more with muscle and not so boney. But I am concerned as I have gained 12 lbs. in only two months! I have been exercising the same as I always have although honestly I have been snacking a bit but nothing out of control. My calorie intake is roughly the same. I don't understand what is happening with my body and my clothes don't fit well. What can I do?
  23. Whatever you decide cook WAY less. If you eat out, eat off some one elses plate. You will be able to eat mashed potatoes or candied yams. Getting it done just before the holidays might sound tough, but look at the bright side- no holiday season weight gain this year. Also, I started to feel a lot better with more energy about the 1 month, so although the food experience will be much different, you should still be able to enjoy good company. Good luck!

    No longer obese!

Thanks all, it's a wonderful feeling to be overweight! I don't dare hope that I'll ever be "normal" weight according to the height/weight charts, since that would require me to drop almost another 30 pounds, which -- with my build -- just ain't happening. But now, if I ever have to fill out one of those singles/dating profiles, I don't feel guilty saying that I'm "about average" in shape. Huzzah!
