Wow!!!! This is tooo much fun!!! 1. Goal this month: To as best as humanly possible have a successful surgery on August 16th and ease into this Bariatric lifestyle as seamlessly as possible🤞🤞 2. I'm having VGS on the 16th. 3. Weight currently is 203lbs (gained from recent vacation. Starting weight is 199.5lbs BMI 35) 4. Fun fact: hmmmm (scratching head)..... I write really raunchy erotica when i am extremely bored and self publish[emoji4][emoji4][emoji4] (Please don't ask where) [emoji28][emoji28] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Monkfruit sweetner

I use it as well. I am preop and asked my Nutricianist about using Monk Fruit sweetener. You use it just like sugar, it's 0 on the GI just like Stevia, and according to her helps prevent insulin resistance issues. She recommended I replace my Stevia with it. I also asked the Nutricianist from Bariatric Pal Hospital about it's use after surgery and she said it would be fine. It's a shame as I grow my own Stevia plants and make my own sweetener!

    Weight Gain?

Hey Much Congratulations, although many will be adverse I believe your Young Lady was meant to be, she👶 just didn't want to wait to make YOU her Mommy! My own Mommy , I believe had what Prince William's wife _(and also his Mum had) they had to stop the gurney on her way to be delivered so she could vomit. List 15 pounds but I was a healthy husky 7 pounds & 12 ounces, 10-12 says early, if I had "baked" another two weeks maybe theyvwoykd have been warned. how BIG I was going to Grow! And I was a product of the mid 49s when Healthy Babies were Fat Babies, at a year I was 35 inchs tall, 26 pounds, the size of today's 2- 2 1/2 year old. Some people were BORN TO BE WILD, well I was BORN TO BE FAT and it wasn't until 72 I was able to defeat my heritage with a RNY BYPASS and a good bariatric surgeon who kept me motivated and said No You're NOT TOO OLD! God Bless and keep safe my Bradley J Needleman MD who gave me a chance to have a Future instead of a rapidly approaching Death! And now I look like this👗instead of a cheese puffball with Red Hair m

Calling all vets- where are you

ProudGrammy, Sorry you're having this Dialysis Dealing " Off The Bottom of the Deck" , my report is still not on level with you're. But it was time for my Sleep Doctor's re-evaluation , I am. going to be one of the Rare Birds whose Obstructive Sleep Apnea WAS NOT CURED by Bariatric surgery and Weight Loss. Oh I am still happy I started with a HW of 365+, I say "+" because at THAT point I was so dismayed and disappointed with my body size I refused any subsequent weighing. Even made a SICK Wise- Crack, told them to weigh me again in My Casket! Oh I didn't REALLY WANT DEATH that badly but I thought it inevitable. Now LOVE, I weight proudly at 189.9, NOT NAD for almost 11 months past Surgery I Think, now in size 18, for all who think " So What, not THAT SMALL!" I started at, when I could find them , a 28-30 Woman-size, usually slunk over to the Mens Side and bought 4X sweats, unless I engineered skirts and slacks on my Huskavarna, because I was not only a Girl Scout, I was a 4Her for 10 years and did know how to tailor and sew, cut my own patterns out of newpaper, taped pieces together until I had a " Brillant Attack" and bought PaperBoltEnds from my local one. That helped but still got down on the floor to cut them, too big for laying them, out on my Kitchen Table . Not a Joyous Memory, is it? Well, while I was going to be there anyway , on our PCP' recommendation, they evaluated my Son the Tomkitten, and no Surprize, He Also has Obstructive Sleep Apnea also So they do them in 2 steps here, so August,6th we both go back for further Sleep Setting Titration. And like YOU I can say THANK YOU DADDY because that's who in my Family Tree🌴to Thank! And before him And proper testing, ii could have remained UNDIAGNOSED for Generations! And this gives my Baby Boy a Second Valid Co- Morb with GERD toward Bariatrics, many people say he carries it Well but I'd currently marching through life with an 18 collar size and a 37.7 BMI, PCP made snide comment, at least it SOUNDED,THAT WAY to my Mommy Ears, " Every pound Your Mother Loses You Gain"! And he started stamping "Morbid Obesity" on TK' s post- visit paperwork a couple # ago. TK said, "I downloaded an application from OSU so don't be surprised if You get a fax back from THEM"! PCP Said" You know In Just a Few months they will be starting them here", "No" said TK, "I am wagering that with GERD I will need what Mom had, I WANT HER Doctor! I'll discuss it with Him , but remember my Dad was a Gambler, I KNOW about Odds, and I will aim for That One"! Didn't pressure TK, completely HIS DECISION. But he did say ---I don't want to have to wait as old as YOU DID. So stay tuned my little "Frustr8 the ReRun" just may be in the Works too. Snicker Snicker, he NOW weighs almost 60 pounds more than me and oooh it p.o.' s Him Greatly! Never ever happened before in his life, of course NoT, I am Now a little Smaller than I was when Late Lamented and I Married in December 1967, oh my Wedding Dress was still an 18. but tight enough His Suspicious Relatives were certain I was Pregnant. They about choked on their chewing gum when I took me nearly 14 months to produce our 1st Baby👶. None of them LIKED fat people although 65% of them were legally obese themselves. See why of all my late hubby relatives I LIKED him best? Anyhoo I am now less than 15 pounds from My Personal Goal, I have passed my Surgeon -Dr Needleman and his Nurse Practitioner Valerie prediction of 197- 198 and Are You ready for THIS? My PCP, the Great White Producer of Useless diets and Pills--- He NOW SAYS I have lost TOO MUCH WEIGHT! Kathy, he used to dance around me singing Over and Over " YOU ARE GOING TO DIE BEFORE YOU ARE 75 " , golly I NEVER lacked motivation only the tools to effect the Loss! Should NEVER NEVER have challenged ME- I have been Redheaded since birth, stubborn. if I could survive Obesity what was going to STOP ME NOW? So I will continue to 🙏pray for You but Please be Happy for All this loss of poundage, still not certain what relative I will most resemble, big cast to choose from! Daddy had 10 living siblings when i was born , Mama 6 , all of them grew up fertile so Uber Cousins! And maybe you reemember, Every since seeing Daddy's Family ALbums I Have Said We HAVE Native American Blood flowing There! Ever known a Indian with strawberry blonde hair? You do niw, the High Cheekbones are UNDENIABLE , I made my late Aunt Minnie mad when I told her Great great Grandpa LOOKS like Iron Eyes Cody the Plains Indian Actor. Ga Ha Aunt Minnie, we are Mingos whether you wanted to admit it or not! Just proves I have more right to be here than the average Ohioan, this was my ancestors Land First! Did you know, of all the Midwestern States Ohio is the Only One with No designated Indian Reserves, after the Battle of Fallen Timbers my settler Ancestors tried running everyone off, well the last laugh, they didn't scrub Central and East Central Ohio totally clean We're still Here! My Cherokee friend calls me a Jelly 🍩 donut, White on the outside but strongly stuffed Red in the Interior. Okay by me, When Shianne, her mom a spelled it That Way so she wouldn't get mis- identified as a Plains Indian, dances at Pow Wow. she dances for me in spirit, helped her make some of her regalia. mm She is one Beautiful Young Lady! Make everybody a challenge- if you have Wikipedia on your computer/ smartphone Look under either Peoria Tribe or Peoria People, lady there is spitting image of Aunt Minnie, history states the Mingo merged into the Peoria, and they are Good Looking people, maybe because they are kinfolk? Oh Well just another facet that made Frustr8 trulyFrustr8 and I won't deny that! Have a Sunny Last Day of July!
  7. You can definitely do lower fat and still do keto type diet. if you are on facebook there are some keto groups for women who have had bariatric surgery. I would do turkey sausage, I try and sub turkey for everything pretty much, for bacon, ground meat, etc. I try to not just snack on cheese but maybe eggs every once and awhile, make lower fat deviled eggs as a snack, they're great with everything but the bagel seasoning! I use fairlife skim milk, it's lower carb and high protein. I hope that helps and makes sense lol
  8. These are usually high calorie liquids but no satiety, because they go right through you Dense Protein and firm vegetables/leafy greens will help with fullness and hunger control or try something akin to keto but more bariatric friendly (substitute high fat items with leafy vegetables eg kale/romaine instead of bacon/avocado) Here's an example of a keto meal plan for a week
  9. It’s exciting, yet at the same time I’m really scared. I often wonder if I’m making the right decision. I never thought I’d have bariatric surgery, I never thought I’d get this big. At the same time I’m tired of being miserable, which makes me want the surgery. I wish you the best of luck. I’ll definitely ask you how it went😊
  10. Well all my buddies and such- in 15 days I visit my Bariatric Clinic. I will be 11 months and 10,days out and I am told THIS shall suffice as my 1 Year Check- up. Since nobody is busting their Buns to see me, although I feel there are glaring insufficiencies here and there in MY recovery, nobody really sees. MY importance in the Grand Scheme, didn't really plan to see my Surgeon again, figured he and his partner were a One And Done, now that I have had my one chance at Stardom in the Operating Theatre, pfft I am NO LONGER OF ANY THRILL to those 2, okay if that's THE WAY the GAME IS PLAYED. But a little Air will be Cleared up or I will not be back even if it will be in September 2020. I woke up again this morning, in pain, feeling sick and nauseous, I know my stomach is empty, but Dayum I feel like I have ulcer pain, I am not dreaming This- I am NOT WISHING to feel sick so Don't Tell my sad ME it's all psychosomatic, I am not a HEAD Case, don't shunt me off to my County Mental Health, I live in a Small County, not the Megalopolis of my State Capital, my County has many who validly NEED THEM and unless YOU Drive me there with a Pointed Stick, I Ain't GOING. So I am looking for proper phraseology among my Journal and Motivation apps- like the REBA McENTIRE song says I AIN'T GOING OUT LIKE THAT, it is my appointment, me and insurance are paying for it, since it is close to One Year, I'm sure it is TIME for co-pays instead of Total Coverage so Yours Truly the Person they have so Richly Ignored is going All Out, Guns Blazing Verbally. What is the Worst They Can Do? IGNORE ME? Been doing a bang- up Job of THAT for months after months and then a week ago I was informed I HAVE BEEN " Grandfathered" into a GOOD HEALTH STATUS? HMMN- I DON'T THINK SO! I may make the NATIONAL NEWS for THIS TANTRUM- move over Donald Trump and all the Democratic Canidates to Supplant HIM--- IT'S FRUSTR8- TIME and my 15 minutes of GLORY is OVERDUE!

    When was your first stall?

This was posted by someone way back in 2015, but is one of the best responses Ive seen about stall concerns: It seems that at least 50% of the posts on BariatriPal are bemoaning a stall. Daily, and sometimes hourly, I am reading about how someone ONLY lost x number of pounds and now the scale hasn't moved in ___ [fill in the blank] days/months, etc. Oh no, they write, I am a failure/unique/my surgery didn't work/life is not fair, ... Why am I in a stall? I know I am exaggerating but I think you get the idea. Guess what? STALLS are a NORMAL part of the PROCESS of losing weight. If you want to lose weight, you will stall. Not just once, but over and over. And, guess what? A stall is where your body actually does the hard work of becoming smaller. It takes a lot of work and energy to dismantle a structure that has been holding up, in some cases, hundreds of pounds. For those who think they have to DO something to somehow "break a stall" (in my opinion, you do not break a stall, you just ride them out), here is my response: What can you do to "break" a stall? 1) STAY OFF THE SCALE Relax and stay off the scale if it bothers you so much. Weigh no more than once a week, or even less often. Weighing only at your doctor's appointments early in the process is a good strategy if your mood and self-worth are dictated by the numbers on the scale. 2) PICK UP A TAPE MEASURE In addition to using the numbers on the scale to measure your progress, take your measurements. Inches lost are also a great way to see physical progress when the scale isn't moving. Most people see the biggest physical changes in their body when the scale seems stuck. 3) TRACK YOUR Protein AND Water AND MEET OR EXCEED YOUR PROTEIN AND WATER GOAL EVERY DAY As long as you are getting in all your protein and water and following your NUT and surgeon's instructions, you are doing what you are supposed to do. If you aren't getting in all your protein and water, then increasing your protein and water is something you can do (and should be doing anyway whether or not you are in a stall). 4) EXERCISE If you aren't exercising, then you can exercise (and should be whether or not you are in a stall). You can start slowly by walking or even moving more around the house. Exercising will help you feel better, tone your skin and build fat-burning muscle. 5) MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR NUT If you are unsure or unclear about what you are supposed to be, or should not be eating, then make an appointment with your NUT (which you should be doing whether or not you are in a stall). 6) REASSESS AND REEVALUATE About the only good result I see that comes from complaining about a stall is when you take an honest look at what you are doing and realign with the program recommended by your NUT and surgeon. Have you started eating more outside of your plan? Are you restricting calories? Are you eating enough carbs and protein for your exercise? Are you taking your Vitamins? Are you eating often enough? Are you eating slowly with protein first? Sometimes, all you need to DO is go back to basics. 7) JOURNAL One of the biggest things I have noticed from the various posts is how anxious and out-of-control some people feel when they notice a stall. Journaling can help you gain some perspective and deal with some of the emotional turmoil. -- Write about how you are feeling about the stall and your weight loss, and surgery in general. -- Write about why you had the surgery in the first place. -- Write about what life was like before surgery. -- Write about what you hope and dream about accomplishing in the future. -- Write about your fears. -- Write about your NSVs. -- Make a gratitude list. -- Make a bucket list. -- Write a letter to your old self; write a letter to your new self. Just write. 😎 SEEK HELP Stalls are when too many people seem to revert to old, counterproductive dieting behaviors (restricting calories, over exercising, bingeing, etc.). If this is you, then another thing you can DO is to talk to a counselor or therapist or consider joining a bariatric support group or a twelve-step group like Overeater's Anonymous. The discomfort of being in a stall can also drive people to develop new, unhealthy coping habits or even transfer addictions. This is where you want to marshall all the resources you have available to you and use them. The last, and most important thing you can DO is: 9) EMBRACE THE STALL Stalls are a normal and natural part of the process. Our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines. Stalls go hand-in-hand with weight loss. If you had Weight Loss Surgery, then you probably want to lose a significant amount of weight. So, get ready to embrace the many stalls you will experience as your body is transformed. It will be worth it.
  12. After about 10-14 days they asked for more documentation that the Bariatric program sent in for me. I got approval within a couple of weeks. So definitely no longer than a month with Aetna
  13. I just applied for bariatric surgery and was told that someone would be calling me to make an appointment with the surgeon. I am happy and nervous. I am 54 years old, 5'8" and weigh about 315 now. I am coming off some hardships--caregiver to parents who passed away, dear friend of 30+ years died of cancer, laid off twice in the last 6 years and a major fire 3 years ago, lost everything. I gained weight steady during this period, and coming to my layoff last year I really gained a lot. I am miserably fat. It hurts to stand up or walk more than 2 minutes. I developed edema, which is painful. Struggle getting in and out of my large car. Steps? Ha! I avoid them like the plague. I want a gastric sleeve because of my health. I am also diabetic and recently had my baby toe amputated. I am afraid worse things will happen if I get older with this weight. That's my sad story, but what I would like to know is, what kind of questions did you all ask the doctor before your surgery? I want to sound at least half way intelligent with the doctor. Thanks for any help!

  16. This is why ASBS - the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons changed their name some years ago to ASMBS - the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, to reflect this reality. As a side note, the classic or traditional Duodenal Switch started out in Europe as a procedure specifically designed to treat diabetes, to which the VSG was added to make it a more specific weight loss procedure.

    do I qualify

Honestly? Most insurances wouldn't approve you at your current BMI. I recommend looking into your insurance's requirements and then searching for Bariatric centers that your insurance covers for more information.
  18. I use Bariatric Choice from amazon. I think BariatricPal sells them as well. here is the amazon link. https://www.amazon.com/Bariatric-Choice-Multivitamin-Supplement-Patients/dp/B07HZ3YQ5X My numbers are great for bloodwork and only $30 for a 90 day supply

    Probably a dumb question

I always used the entire Syntrax packet as one serving - not sure about this 1/4 packet business - but I'd noticed that as well. I can't imagine most people drink less than a packet. One packet has around 100 kcal and 20-ish grams of protein, although it may depend on the flavor. most people ditch the protein shakes after the first few weeks or months (and you can as soon as you're getting all your protein needs met by real food), but some people keep up with them. They include: 1) people who malabsorb protein (like me). My protein needs are much higher than the normal bariatric patient, and a shake or two a day helps me meet them 2) people who can't stomach solid food in the morning. Some of them do a protein shake for breakfast instead 3) people who just flat-out like protein shakes (and there are some out there...)
  20. Alex Brecher

    Probably a dumb question

Meal Replacements in Bariatric Protein generally means the protein is fortified with additional vitamins, minerals, fiber, calcium, Iron etc. Meal replacements are great pre or post-op when you're not eating normal meals. Meal replacements like BariatricPal Protein One, actually replace your regular bariatric vitamins and you can use them long term.
  21. I made this as a microwave version when I was on mushies. I used the low fat soup and canned chicken. It was really delish and satisfying. And perfectly on plan. I put it up in small 1/4c portions and froze it. Then i'd take one out per meal and nuke it for like 1 minute 20 seconds and had a meal of which I ate maybe 1/2 of it. The bariatric version isn't carb heavy at all. Here's my recipe for it, but now I just omit the COC soup and use COM.
  22. Just found a link to this story on my google news feed. Thought it was a great read and very much agree with what it's saying. The best line is "Surgery is, by far, the most effective tool in managing or reversing Type 2 diabetes. Just as doctors wouldn't wait until a patient has advanced-stage cancer to treat their disease, patients shouldn't have to wait until they are severely obese to undergo surgery," Brethauer said. https://www.wfmz.com/features/life-lessons/scientists-want-to-change-criteria-for-bariatric-surgery-eligibility/1100520796 Thought I'd share with the group
  23. I watched a video of a bariatric surgeon explaining variability and predictability of weight loss over time. He made a bell curve. The top represents average weight loss after surgery. To the right is a mark which represents those who continue to follow the eating plan to a tee. They will lose more and maintain. To the far right are those who follow the plan AND exercise faithfully. They will lose the most and maintain, as they continue with the lifestyle changes. To the left of the curve are those who don't exercise faithfully and also those who cheat on the plan. The cheaters and the sedentary are the ones who regain. This cannot apply to everyone in every situation. Some people will just naturally lose more than others - the body will do what the body will do. But it did emphasize the point that we can maximize our weight loss by both exercising and following the plan. Exercise needs to include both cardio and strength training. Following the plan means to continue tracking, planning out meals, eating nutritiously dense foods, and keeping on top of it so one doesn't start sliding and not be able to intervene quickly. Building these new habits is the chief objective during the "honeymoon" stage (6-12 months post op), so that once hunger returns and restriction lessons someone has already acquired the tools for lifetime maintenance.

    Binge eating-14 months after surgery

Congrats on 14 months out and 142 pounds down. Only my opinion, If you are binge eating, look into counseling/therapy or self-help resources to address it. Binging and restricting can be a vicious cycle. High exercise and low calories can cause hunger/binge. If you are at a higher fitness level it may be time to check in with your bariatric dietician or sports medicine dietician. They may change up your diet to fuel you calorie burn. I hope you find what works to stay healthy

    What shakes are good?

Well, my New friend, I have, through things Not All of My Intentions, been on Protein Shakes for nearly an entire full year, started my Liver shrink Diet August 1st 2018, and having had a slower than average RECOVERY because I am Much Older than Average, was 72 years and a little over 8 months for my RNY last September 5th, and we just don't heal as smooth and fast as the Younger ones. I have an extremely cranky pouch of egg-sized gastric flesh whoihave named Precious Pouch. When they did my 1st endoscopy 6 weeks in after much whining , complaining. And burning up their phone wires, it was discovered P.P. had 3 ulcers within herself which led to a stricture of my stoma opening between her and my jejunem plus there were multiple ulcerations in there as well. I have been on Carafate since last October 12th every 6 hours around the clock and the Path has been bumpy. Oh I have lost weight like " Gangbusters" but at what cost? Still hasn't been a final accounting, but I have become a gourmet protein shake drinker, as I STILL do not handle solids well. My Favorites in descending order- keeping in mind I have a Chocolate Allergy and drink plain Vanilla with a gun placed against my temple- I find it thick, white, cloying and tasteless- and I WILL NOT GO there. Strawberry Ensure High protein Max- like it and the new wild Berry. Muscle Milk blueberry Greek yogurt making my own with whey isolate protein powder and 1% or skim milk- whir it up in my Nutibullet with ice cubes, makes it cold and slushy like a real milkshake Glucerna Butter Pecan premiere protein or acts and creme- not quite as fond but it reminds me of those orange circus peanut candies I used to love . The Peach Mango shake stuff Ohio State has, don't know what it's exact name is but had it during immediate post surgery and when I got rehospitalized in late November. a tale THERE too. But of All I have tried that Ensure is hand down the BESt , tastes just like Strawberry Quik without the fakey flakey evaporated milk taste or aftertaste I grew to loathe. A lot of people swear by GNC or Unjury, never had either, refuse to frequent Jeff Bezos mega- Spider Amazon so no I DO NOT HAVE A PRIME ACCOUNT! I have ordered from Bariatric Pal Store, quick delivery, things feared always toward us even more than General Public, although I'm sure they also are welcome! Like the meaning of FUBU, for Us- by Us, that's the true Black meaning, other being F Up Beyond Understanding, and when I get mad at Me-thats where I am At.
