  1. You may not have lost in the past few weeks, but your ticker shows a significant loss---big enough that plateau is probably the culprit. Plateaus just happen. They have no rhyme or reason. You can be doing everything right, and find the scale just sticks for a while---and then resumes its happy downward trend. It's very frustrating, but chances are, if you just ride it out, you'll find that you're soon losing again

    Can Eat Everything

If you're 5 weeks out and you've lost 24 pounds but been stuck for 2 weeks, that means you lost 24 pounds in 3 weeks. You are doing great! Your body has hit the "3 week stall." It is simply in shock by the amount of calories you have cut from it. The average weight loss is 4 lbs a week so you're still doing good even with your stall. Keep eating right and exercising and I promise, all of the sudden, you will start dropping the weight again. Most of us here have been in the same place. But, as the prior posts said.... don't go off plan. This is the time to be establishing new habits that you will stick with for the rest of your life.

    Maine Lobster band

Hello all - I am a banded Mainer (Mainah....) Where from? I'm in So. Portland. Banded last November and avid reader of the "Slow Losers" thread - yes, slow weight loss, but NOT ONE REGRET!! Welcome!
  4. :frown:Hi everyone. I am set for surgery on NOv 15th and I was doing well pre op with shaled and one small no carb meal and then it happened this weekend , My husband pissed me off and and I started eating! I did not go to crazy but enough that I feel like a failure and if I can not do this how can I manage the band. I have been so hungry that at times it has been so difficult....i will crave chicken thats how hungry I have been getting..and I get in a good amount of protein. I know today I need to get back in the right state of mind and I still have another week but I feel 1- like i screwed up already and 2 like I am not even benefiting from the pre diet weight loss ......

    hypothyroidism

Aren't you being treated for it with meds? Make sure if you are that your doctor that is treating you is a specialist in Thyroid disorders.... your TSH level should be lower than 2.0 and the other levels like your T4 and such need to be monitored often as well. The AMA has a normal range of .3-5.5, but you have and should be treated for a hypothyroidism if it is above 2.0. Also, maybe your med is not working efficiently for you either... maybe change to a natural thyroid like Amour Thyroid..... if your thyroid is tightly controlled and monitored, you shouldn't have too many issues... I am losing steading in the two months since surgery, but my thyroid is TIGHTLY controlled... helps when you go to a naturalpathic doctor with a specialty in thryoidism. I can't see how a doctor could tell you what the weight loss is of a person with or without a thyroid disorder.... unless he did a study and controlled the eating, medications, etc.... that seems unprofessional... if your thyroid is controlled properly, this shouldn't be an issue! I'm not losing weight!!!!

You really won't see the benefits of having a lap band until you have good restriction. In order to get good restriction, you need to have Fills. I see that you had your first fill last week. Based on your signature, I'm guessing you have a 10cc band. I've heard of people (and this is how it was for me too) needing two or three fills before they start getting restriction. The idea of the band is that it will physically limit you from eating, thereby reducing your intake, and causing weight loss. You are doing fine....don't panic. Oh, and one other thing I always like to remind people of: YOU ARE NOT ON A DIET!!! You have made a LIFE CHANGE. Don't worry about dropping a bunch of weight very quickly. The band WILL work, you WILL lose weight, and you SHOULD keep it off for the rest of your life. Think bigger, sister--beyond just what the scale says once a week....hope that helps.
  8. hi everyone just wandered if anyone out there has hypothyroidism, and if so what is your weight loss been like thanks tammy

    I'm not losing weight!!!!

Your weight loss is incredible!! That is really fast weight loss! Your body is just catching up with itself! Weight loss is never linear and it's not as simple as eating X amount of calories and exercising, and you will lose exactly 2.2 pounds a week, etc... There are sooo many factors at work. Trust me, keep up exactly what you are doing and in a few weeks you will see the scale going down again. Every time I have ever lost significant amounts of weight, it would then stall. The body just seems to need a time of adjustment. You're doing awesome!!
  10. yeah, I didn't even start the "weight Loss" phase until my first fill. Some of us even gain a pound or two on the Post-Op soft diet. DON"T WORRY! You will feel like you did immediately post-op as soon as you start getting fills. I freeked out about this too. You would think they would tell us to expect this. Sheesh.

    not losing much

you never said, how long you have been on the optifast. But just remember any loss, is still a loss. You are walking a lot, so maybe you are gaining some muscle so the weight loss is not showing up as much. Don't worry, if you are following your diet, all will be good. Good Luck on your surgery.

    nervous and discouraged

I was also banded on the 13th and have lost 12lbs and stopped. I am excited for my loss but hoped to see more since I have cut my food consumption down so much. I fill up on 1 cup to a little less at each meal. My stomach says I'm full but my brain, tastebuds and habits say otherwise. It's been hard work but I have been sticking to good food choices and still nothing. I go for my f/u on Friday and hope for some encouragement from my dr. I am on soft/mushy but they don't seem to last very long before my stomach starts growling.

    nervous and discouraged

I know the feeling. On the liquid diet my scale was moving everyday. It has now just stopped. I know that I am suppose to be healing and that its not a miracle thing and its going to take time... but ive been fat my whole life, I want to see those pounds dropping! Dont let it bother you, just eat right and do what you are doing. Can you work out yet? I know I am not ready, but I cant wait till I am it will help with the weight loss!

    Waiting to Drink after Meals

Congrats on the weight loss and the compliments! And getting off the meds, thats just super. I havn't gotten my surgery yet, so I can't comment on the drinking after meals... I have been trying to be conscious of not doing it now, before surgery. I look at the clock after eating, and it seems like before I know it, its 20-30 minutes later. Also, I drink a bunch up to 5 minutes before eating, so Im not really thirsty. (my nut says 5 minutes before, 20-30 after for drinking. I know this is different than some others...)
  16. I am a former LapBand patient. I unfortunately had to have the LapBand removed in February of 2009 because of complications that my surgeon didn't catch early on. Because of the complications (the band slipped, causing an extra pouch above my stomach and severe scarring on my stomach), I cannot get another band put on. I recently heard of the VSG on TV and have been contemplating this surgery. When I had the band removed, I was told my only option was a gastric bypass, but I have not met one person that hasn't had to be re-hospitalized because of severe complications with the bypass - so that just isn't an option for me - scares me a little too much. So, I am wondering if this surgery would be a better fit. Through the different forums I have read throughout this web-site, it does seem like there are a lot of similarities in the side-effects with the 2 surgeries. So, I guess I am wondering if there is anyone out there that also had the LapBand removed and had this surgery done? Or, if anyone that has had this surgery done, can you tell me a little bit about your experience -- how the weight loss has gone, how much you are eating, etc. I have gained 85 of the 120 I lost and it really is depressing. Especially when I try my hardest to eat healthy and exercise. I really want to run with my kids again and have the energy back that I have lost with this weight gain. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and any information you could provide -- that would just wonderful!!!

  18. Well my curiosity obviously wondered off to these men fourms. 19. I had a lot of body and face work done last month in Mexico by Dr. Sauceda. He specialized in massive weight loss and has great rates. I was there, under his care for two weeks all inclusive. He has a group over on ObesityHelp dot com. There are a lot of us over there that recently had surgery. He will be in las Vegas in June doing consultations.
  20. Smiley, my surgeon never talked about a goal weight. The program nurse noted I would be at 70% weight loss when I reached 125. I'm 57 so I would be happy with 125. I've lost 28 lbs since surgery on June 26. I had two surgeries to remove hernias 7 days and 14 days post op. I'm still having problems eating and drinking. Getting an upper GI in the morning and I really think I have a stricture. I did have a 2 week stall in which I didn't lose an ounce, but that's normal. Wishing you the best!
  21. Judi, Ahhh..the old frat parties. We had quite a few frat houses in my neighborhood living in a college town. Those were pretty wild. I remember walking by those old homes, which were converted to frat houses not being able to wait til I was old enough to go...lol.... That happened to me with coffee brandy. It was not fun. I find a nice red wine to be fine once in a while. I do not really feel the difference as far as getting too tipsy. I think the RNY patients would be the ones to really notice that. I like your logos...you sound like a girly girl like me...lol. Good luck. Hope everything goes well. Nothing a good lipstick can't fix and the right hair gel!
  22. Hi there I had my surgery at Barix in Ypsilanti, MI (my fills will be done at their Holland, MI office, which is much closer for me) My Dr. is Dr. Shramm, and I am really happy with him and the whole Barix setup. Surgeries are also done in the town where I live, but the doctor doing them has only 1 year experience, and Dr Shramm was my friend's doctor 4 years ago. Also, bariatric/LB surgery is ALL they do at Barix (Ypsi is just outside Detroit) so I felt that any potential complication would be in good hands. My insurance requires an overnight stay, and I was glad they did (although I didn't get much rest with the respiratory therapist and nurses coming in every 2 hours!) I was on full liquids for 3 weeks after, then blended foods for 2 weeks, then go to "soft foods" (what you could chew without teeth :eyebrows: ) then regular food. I am supposed to not lift anything over 5 lbs for 3 - 4 weeks, stay out of the pool for 6 weeks, and walk 30 min a day or more from day 1 (I did my first "walk" at Kohls the day after surgery - probably not the best idea) I did go back to work on day 8 - I'm a massage therapist and saw just 1 client - and have had no pain, but did feel very tired for the first 2 weeks. I really had to look down and see the "ruffles" on my tummy (surgistrips, starting to come off) to remember I had something so major done. I'd love to hear your experience with fills, choices of food, and weight loss. I am down about 18 lbs 3 weeks after surgery, and back working pretty much full time (4 or so clients a day, up to 3 days a week) Also, if you had surgistrips, and they have come off - HOW do you get the adhesive off!?? :help:
  23. I see that you mentioned in an edit that you did have a fill under fluoro and the band looked fine. I have read other threads where people say their band worked differently post pregnancy (there is a pregnancy forum on this site). For some reason, it just doesn't work the same in that it is tighter or looser than normal . . . or is just more fickle in that finding the sweet spot is really hard. My band was perfect before pregnancy . . . I got to my sweet spot quickly and maintained that fill level for many, many months steadily losing until all of a sudden, my band became horribly tight. Later I discovered it was pregnancy related. Since I have been pregnant, I can no longer tolerate anywhere near my previous fill level or I can't eat. I don't really have morning sickness or vomiting problems and never did during pregnancy, but it feels as though normal fill levels cause my band to almost close completely. I am hoping, praying, dreaming that post pregnancy my band will work normally again . . . but alas the future is not known to me as of yet. I am not sure why your band is behaving this way and you are uncomfortable eating dressed. I have read many, many pregnancy threads and this is the first I have heard of it. Perhaps a slight unfil may help the sensation (but then it also allows the food to flow more easily which may inhibit weight loss attempts). Perhaps you can get a slightly larger band size on your bra or pants if they fit snug. I would ask your doctor at the least and keep posting threads regarding how clothing affects the band.

What do you eat in a day...

Sounds like it's time for a fill. Having a band without proper restriction is like having a car with no gas. It gets you nowhere. My loss had slowed and I made sure I got a fill and woohoo... restriction! It has made a world of difference for me. I am dropping pounds again and excited about what comes next. 25. Well I just celebrated my birthday and since I have a family who loves to eat and myself loving to get all dolled up enjoyed the excitement of just going.. We went from Texas Roadhouse one day, to Apple Bees another, then Red Lobster for lunch on another, and Chef's Steak House, & not to forget the margarita and the black berry sangria and the strawberry blast birthday cake[emoji51]. I say all this because after all these places I went to celebrate my birthday and all the so little food I could consume the last two weeks, I made healthy selections when ordering and only gained 3pds[emoji4] I had some things I shouldn't have had but hey it's a blessing all by itself to be able to live to see another one, so I let down my hair and forgot all about meal tracking and acted as if I was a skinny girl with no phat girl problems, lol [emoji23]So this week my goal is to Work Work Work Work Work (in my Rihanna voice) and get them right back off[emoji123]????
