I have issues with constipation as well and try to eat fiber one cereal, prunes, and oatmeal. At least one of these foods every day. It's helped me quite a bit. Also, I'm not sure if yogurt helps, but I eat yogurt every day.

Any 2017 60'ish sleever's out there?
mem1 replied to RoseinAZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 62 & had my sleeve done on 7/10. I too am having a hard time getting in the 3 protein shakes plus the all the water. I am eating mashed cauliflower, scrambled eggs, hummus, pea & lentil soup, beef consommé which is salty, low fat cottage & part skim ricotta cheese. Today 1/4 mashed banana w/ tbsp of plain fat free Greek yogurt. But it's like midnight before I can get all my protein & liquid requirements in plus the vitamin supplements schedule. I went back to work yesterday & I am hoping I can get a better routine going!!!!!! -
Your stomach is NOT healed at 5-6 weeks. It takes a full 6 months to actually be completely healed, but the scarring process is well underway at 8-9 weeks. Leaks are still possible until about 9 weeks postop, so you really have to be extra careful for the entire first 2 months. 1. Fluids: It sounds like you're probably getting in your 64oz. Good. 2. Protein: 4oz greek yogurt has about 12g protein? 4oz meat has around 26g protein. So you're only getting in about 38g protein for the day. That is nowhere near enough. I'd recommend drinking something with protein. A protein shake, or 4 cups of regular milk, or 3 cups of fairlife milk, or 4 cups of bone broth, or a bottle of Lifeway protein kefir, etc. The drinks count toward your fluid goals (except maybe the extra-concentrated protein shakes). Instead of filling up valuable real estate with oatmeal and watermelon, take fiber supplements with your drinks. By time you are 8 weeks postop, you will find you can eat more, and can move away from drinking your calories. Early on, it's necessary, unless you can get in 6 small meals that each have 12g of protein. (Which is almost impossible at 5 weeks postop, but you might set as a goal for the next few weeks).

Your stomach is still numb from having had nerves cut. Even though yogurt is soft, you don't want to irritate things by going too quickly. Try to eat half the yogurt, then eat the other half a couple hours later. The v8 should be fine since it is a liquid. Going slow and easy now will pay dividends later.

I can get 5.3 oz. Of yogurt down, no problem and a whole can of v8 Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

I got the sleeve done same day as all of you. I am not sure what is going on as I feel normal now. First 4 days it hurt to drink water. Now I can gulp it and it won't hurt until the 4 of 5th gulp. Anyways I am on full fluid. Milk, pudding, yogurt, apple sauce, juice, cream soups. I can't wait until next week when I can go on baby food. Or puree foods. I am having a hard time getting enough liquid in. I feel like all I do is eat and drink. Then my urine is still really really dark. Anyone else. Has anyone had sex yet? I have a few times. Not sure if that was right of me to do. But hubby was gentle and no pain. So.... Sent from my LG-H831 using BariatricPal mobile app

Foods you no longer enjoy
OutsideMatchInside replied to MerryMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing. My tastes are pretty much the same. I make better choices. I will say things I didn't like before I really hate now, like yogurt. I don't waste calories on food I don't love. -
Finally cut out coffee creamer!
Introversion replied to knowledge_governs's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I use full-fat half & half in my coffee... If you're into flavoring, there's Torani sugar-free syrups. They come in flavors such as caramel, raspberry, etc, and can be used in coffee, tea, yogurt, and so forth. -

Food reccos for full liquid phase?
Nhope replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I found miso broth concentrate in my supermarket's natural foods aisle. It's really savory and rich and makes a great broth. I like to mix some plain 0% greek yogurt into broth and soups to make it a little creamy and to add that protein. I really only like yogurt in savory preparations, so it's great! -
Keto vs paleo??? Have you ever tried it?
Clementine Sky replied to xoxococojay's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I don't mind the questions at all! I'll send you a PM with the name of the YouTuber. Whenever possible I have full fat dairy rather than reduced or nonfat, for a few reasons. I've read several articles about scientific studies showing that full fat is healthier, and as an added bonus I prefer the taste. My dermatologist told me it would be less likely to aggravate hormonal acne, so that's another major reason. I have PCOS and must be careful about what I consume because I'm very sensitive and prone to breaking out. He suggests having full fat dairy in moderation, and said that goat's milk-based dairy is less likely to trigger breakouts. I like to get goat's milk yogurt from a Sunday farmer's market. It's expensive, but excellent. You can also get it at Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, Gelsons, but everywhere it's pricier than dairy milk yogurt. I have whole milk in my coffee when I'm drinking it out, and at home I use a cashew nut and almond milk protein drink. I always get the unsweetened one that is lower in carbs, and add in a tiny bit of sugar free, no carb Torani syrup for flavor. When I was in the active weight loss phase I ate whole fat plain Greek yogurt with carbs under 10 and protein over 20. (This was before my derm told me to cut back on dairy). There are several brands that meet the criteria, with Fage being one commonly available. I've more recently switched to having plain Silk yogurt, which is nondairy, to see if that can help reduce the risk of breakouts. It has around 10 carbs and 13 grams of protein, but at this point when I'm trying to maintain that's acceptable for me. Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon, has videos on YouTube about "setpoint smoothies". I'll have them for meals or for snacks. I always have full fat cheese. I mainly eat that a little more sparingly because of the worries about dairy and acne, not because of weight concerns. If you don't have a fear of acne breakouts, you'd probably be fine having it in higher quantities. One of my favorite snacks is a protein snack pack by Sargento that has a little portion of cheese cubes, nuts and dried fruit, for around 13 carbs. I have that almost every weekday afternoon. Typically my meals now are something like: smoothie and coffee for breakfast; a salad with an egg, some chicken or another protein; an afternoon snack of coffee and a Sargento snack break or something comparable to it; dinner of a turkey burger or lean steak, green beans or another lower carb vegetable, and a crispbread (sort of like a large cracker that has under 10 carbs) with a little butter on it. Some nights I'll have a dessert like a raspberry cream bar from Trader Joe's (10 carbs) or a Paleo Pop (about 15). When I was pushing more to lose weight, I ate similarly except would have a breakfast that was lower in carbs, such as a couple of pieces of bacon or a turkey sausage patty. In the wintertime I'd eat overnight oats more often, and didn't notice a negative impact on weight loss. It fills you up and gives you needed fiber. I made them with steel cut oatmeal, and added in a dash of milk, a quarter of a cup of berries, and a tiny bit of SF Torani syrup. I'd just be sure to be mindful about anything you add to the oats. If you're not losing weight, I'd try having that breakfast just a couple of times a week and having something lower in carbs other mornings. As for quesadillas, you can make them with lower carb wraps, though I've never personally liked them as much. I think having something you're craving occasionally can help you to not binge. At least for me it does. I'll often eat something that is higher in carbs on the weekends but still sensible (like a quesadilla but not with a whole basket of chips and salsa alongside), but then eat lower carbs for other meals and during the week. I try to have between 60 and 90 grams of carbs every day. Typically breakfast is the meal that has the most carbs. With the yogurt plus fruit and kale for a smoothie it's over 20 grams, whereas with other meals and snacks I try to stay under 20. There is a chart for the paleo diet breaking down how many carbs you should consume based on your gender and if you're trying to lose weight, and it recommends that women have between 50 and 75 grams of carbs while striving to lose weight, and 75 to 150 if you're trying to maintain. I've followed their basic guidelines, but not the rigidness of the diet in totally eliminating foods. https://chriskresser.com/the-3-step-process-to-determining-your-ideal-carbohydrate-intake/ -
My date is Aug 4 and I'm super nervous and crabby. Started my pre-op diet on Friday and it sounds like one of the more extreme ones: 3 high protein drinks/shakes a day, 2-3 snacks of yogurt, sf pudding, cream of tomato soup (so random!); and fluids include clear broth, sf jello, tomato juice, no caffeine tea/coffee, flat diet soda. It's going to be a long 14 days, but I feel a little better each day I'm on it--just very fatigued. I plan to make my own tomato soup today--I'm not so crazy about eating packaged foods. I've also not been able to get a clear answer about the sugar free stuff. I cut artificial sweeteners out of my life several years ago,(it has helped enormously with reducing headaches and stabilizing my mood) trying to only eat stevia or monkfruit based ones if unavoidable. However, the pre/post diet seems to include so many. I've asked a couple of the nutritionists if it's a calorie thing or a metabolism thing and I get mixed answers. Some say it's okay to find low sugar things, some say no sugar because of dumping (even before surgery) so I'm kind of confused. I'm just limiting the sf jello products to when I'm desperate, and I don't drink things like crystal light.

Keto vs paleo??? Have you ever tried it?
Clementine Sky replied to xoxococojay's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was inspired to try the keto diet after seeing photos about it on Instagram from people who'd had the VSG. One of my concerns about it also came from someone I follow on Instagram. She also has a YouTube channel, and back when I was researching having the VSG her videos were helpful to me. She's around the same age and had been about the same BMI as I was when I had the surgery. She was able to get down to 128 (from a surgery weight of about 200, I believe) following an incredibly strict keto plan, but eventually could no longer be that restrictive. She rapidly gained back more than 25 pounds, putting her back into an overweight BMI, which made her feel so discouraged and depressed. After months at the higher weight she is trying keto again, though, so obviously she still feels it was valuable. Prior to having the VSG I frequently yo-yo'd by doing really low carb diets. It was precisely the same pattern - I'd strictly limit my carbs, obsessively follow recipes from online, obsessively dream about carbs I was depriving myself of, and then eventually cave in, and would rapidly regain. With my lower carb, but not strictly low carb diet more like paleo, I've gotten down to a 20 BMI, and maintained it for a year. My weight has only fluctuated by about 5 pounds. That's just me, though. My morning breakfast has more carbs than what's allotted in the entire day for keto (high protein yogurt, low sugar fruit, and kale smoothie). You might find that the keto diet fits you perfectly. -
Any good protein shakes ?
SuperDave replied to Renee1096's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes are definitely not known for their deliciousness. I sort of look at them as a necessary evil, lol. You can make your own at home using kefir (liquid yogurt), protein powder, almond milk and ice in a blender. I add peanut powder to make a peanut butter flavor shake, or sugar free syrups in different flavors. Or you can pour the ready to drink ones over a lot of ice which thins it as it melts. Having several different brands and flavors helped me as well. You quickly get tired of the same thing over and over, it helps to have a change. -
1week post op and hungry
GotProlactinoma replied to Jennifer143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days out but not actually hungry. I'm having a hard time getting the water and the protein in. My goal today is to get more protein in so I'm not so weak. I think my BODY is hungry but I'm not feeling it as hunger, I'm just sensing a weakness. My nut allows Greek yogurt and veg juice too now, maybe yours does too, just for a variety for my hungry co-sleevers? I bought them but haven't touched them yet. -
Daily Menu 6 Months + after surgery
Diana_in_Philly replied to supermom223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
11 months out staying at 1,000 calories a day. Some days (heavy workout) I'll push another 200 calories via a protein bar. B - Protein shake with 1 scoop powder, 1.25c coconut milk and 3/4 c fruit. (Today was mango.) Sometimes I switch up Fairlife Skim for the coconut milk. Today was 25 g protein - add 13 g if I have Fairlife Morning snack - today was seedles grapes about a cup Lunch - 3.5 ounces left over rib eye steak from last night 26 g protein Afternoon snack - Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (15 grams) Dinner - 3-5 ounces of whatever protein I cook for the family most nights ballpark 20 G. -- So that's about 86 grams of protein a day. Plus salad or green veggie. Last night was steak, zucchini fritters and mushrooms. Tonight's dinner (like most Mondays and Wednesdays) will be a protein bar as I have fencing for 2 hours from 7-9 and I don't like to eat before I fence, but by the time I come home, I need to eat something but a meal is not appealing. (Fencing for 2 hours for me is about 1200 calories burned so I burn everything I eat today and wind up with net 0 calories consumed.) -

Just been Sleeved
Monkeyfulbrighter replied to SleevesRbetterThanPantz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 6/27 and stomach and diguesting is still pretty loud. I hear it's like that during most the healing process and gets better after week 5. I just started real soft foods last tuesday, but l want allowed yogurt during liquid phase. Living off of scrambled eggs and string cheese at the moment but I still get faint a lot. Eating is annoying because I'm hungry but get burnt out on stuff so quickly. -
How can you tell when you're full? I'm not even hungry so I surely can't tell when I'm full. I am getting this intense gas type pain after a few sips or spoonful of yogurt... How much are you able to eat at 7 days?

SUGAR FREE SNO CONE/SHAVED ICE
PAstudent replied to ThickGirl5683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
From what I can tell, the majority of sugar free syrups also have 0 carbs and calories (I've found at least one that's 50 calories, no idea what that's about). One sno cone here and there won't kill you or set you off track. To keep cool, how about mixing a sugar free/low calorie drink like crystal light with shaved ice for a slushie? You could make popsicles with crystal light, frozen yogurt, fruit, or any combination of the above. You can also blend your protein shakes with ice or frozen fruit for a nice frozen shake. As a healthy snack for both you and your kids, you could blend frozen bananas for "nicecream" or blend frozen pineapple with just a little bit of coconut milk for something similar to disney's dole whips! My surgeon says to limit fruit to one serving per day so I try not to overdo it with these. -
I've lost 45 pounds this month. I'm only 2 weeks post op. I'm only allowed pureed foods, yogurt sugar free ices or jello and protein drinks are keeping me alive. Lol. Also eggs. 3 days ago starvation is a serious concern. I'm becoming moody irritable hungry and light headed. Anyone have suggestions? Is this happening to anyone else
