    I will feel normal again...right?

It takes about 2-4 weeks before you have energy again, I was totally ok though. I had surgery on a Friday I was back in the swing of things on that Tuesday. I flew home that Monday and I was totally ok, But I remember not being able to run around with the kids like I used to for about 2 weeks. Hang in there. It gets way better!
  2. Hi Everyone! I have my first appt in a week and I am so excited! I have lots of questions though... I have read alot on this site in the last week so I decided to join tonight! Everyone on here seems so nice and helpful so I thought it would be good to start! And give me a little more insight on everything.:sneaky:
  3. Hello, I was banded a year ago yesterday! I remember the first few times on the elipitical - was difficult. I think the "backwards" may have put alittle more pressure in the port area - I don't think you would have done any damage - just be careful & stick with going forward for another few weeks. Enjoy your band!!!! Sharon

    Fills

In the three times that a fill was attempted I was stuck a total of 42 times. With not even being able to hit the port the last time. I had been so sick and not able to keep from throwing up for 4 weeks. I mean this means I threw up everything. Then he decided the port slipped a needed to re attach it. I refused to be put to sleep so they did it with a local not a fun thing but not that bad. I have not had the need to take pain pills and this is day 2. But he took out 1 quarter cc and now I can eat everything again, No restriction, nope no restriction. Does anyone know of something that may be going on beside what I have just wrote. I cannot believe it is suppose to be this difficult. Becoming bullimic would of been so much easier. My surgery was November 13, lost 35 pounds in three weeks cause I was so sick and then with this latest thing I lost 15, The lap band itself is not doing it, just the fact that I get so sick when anything is done. Thanks for any help I am just about ready to turn it into scrap.. Teckla

    Energy

How's everyone's energy level? After two weeks, mine is fairly poor. I can get through a day at work but can't imagine exercising again. It will take time...
  10. Everything is going. I started the two week liquid diet..day six and it sucks. I had my class, blood work, pre op anaesthesia appointment and now just waiting for the day. In the mean time i am finishing this semester of classes and working. Trying to focus on work and school is difficult when I am on this diet. The thought of not having "food" for a while is daunting.
  11. Hi everyone, well today I had my 6 week check up, everything is great. Im down 22 pounds since surgery which was on 12-21-11. I'm excited to be able to eat fresh fruits and veggies! I hope everyone is doing great, take care.

So Cal, Top Surgeons Dr. Naim???

OCBreeze4U: I returned from a business trip at 10AM on Wed 11th, ate a soft scrambled egg. That afternoon I prepped for surgery (laxative) scheduled for Friday June 13th. I have been hungry since that last egg. Surgery was fine. Obviously I am sore and bruised, but OK. I started the liquid Protein drinks, the broths, etc just as they suggest. I alternate between wanting to kill something and eat the paint off the walls. So far I have lost 21 pounds in 12 days. With the doctors permission, I have started Soups, a real egg, and today I had my first oatmeal and few flakes of tuna. I drink the Protein Drinks, and I am still hungry. Some times it is just worse than others. I see the doctor this Friday for a two week checkup. Last night I work up at 2AM hungry, and prepared a half cup of Soup so I could get some sleep. After this week I can start excercising and try to turn up the body's furnace, so hopefully I can get something to eat. Right now even the dog stays out of arms reach because somehow he senses I see him as a source of protein. Am I making my point. If they tell you you are not going to be hungry - they lie.

    Sunta, and others recently banded...

Are you amazed? I'm amazed at how easy the transition was for me. I assumed I had restriction from day 1 and have eaten accordingly, even now into my 4th week of being banded. I'm also amazed by how little food I need to be OK if I really take the time to eat slowly and listen to what my body is telling me, in terms of hunger queues. I have no fil and my swelling has subsided but on my biggest eating day so far I still only needed about a cup of food (and that was my biggest meal of the day) to feel that I was no longer hungry. Part of what helps, I think, is that my Protein shakes fill me up. Are you disappointed? I have no reason to be disappointed in the band. I never thought going into this that the band would do it for me. I knew about 70% or more of it was on my shoulders. I also would never have expected significant results without so much as a fill. I mean -- a soggy cast doesn't help mend broken bones, so why would an unfilled band lead to weightloss? In terms of personal disappointment, my biggest challenge is the drinking -- not drinking after meals. I can do this about 70% of the time. The other 30% I just can't stand it, so I put enouogh Water on my tongue to get the sensation of drinking, but hopefully little enough that it is absorbed in my throat before it gets to my esophagus. I wish I was better about this aspect. Are you tickled pink? I'm thrilled so far. Like I said - IMO - it's unrealistic to expect weightloss from the band before you have any fill, let alone the right fill. My scale shows a 45 lb loss it's also that time of the month for me to be retaining water, so the loss-on-scale could be accurate, or it could be about 8 lbs low. I know that whatever percentage of that number can be equated to fat loss is mostly my doing through making good choices, telling myself to stop eating, joining the gym, etc. Almost 50 lbs in less than a month - I'm thrilled! Are you mourning food? No, but I think emotional eaters are the most prone to do this. My overeating was behavioral, so for me it was more a matter of breaking habits (e.g. eating when I do this, getting fast food for convenience during business travel, eating late at night, etc.) I never saw food as a friend, or a crutch to get me through a situation, so it had no presence in my life to "mourn", so to speak. There are things I know I will eventually crave, but right now the only thing I'm craving is carbonation. Not soda, just the carbonation itself... weird!
  14. Ok...here goes... this is what they told me to do... (I know every doc is different, but here's to variety:) For 2 wks. after surgery: liquids - - hot or cold (tea, Water, sugar-free popsicles, crystal light, slim fast, broth, some juices) - - - NO straws!!! - - but remember that consistency needs to be liquid - - even though we don’t want to use straws (because they allow us to bring in too much air), we want the selection to be liquid enough that we would be able to suck through a straw (figuratively). Also included: creamed Soups (strained - - no chunks - - no meat), thin smoothies, Eating with spoon ok, but NO CHEWING FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS Week 3: Advance to pureed diet, so anything you had in wks. 1 and 2 are still acceptable but you can add the following: Yogurts, sugar-free pudding and Jello, scrambled eggs (not dry), baby food, smoothies, grits, very creamy mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc. Week 4: Advance again, so anything you had in wks. 1 – 3 are still acceptable, but you can add soft canned vegetables and fruits and soft casseroles NO BREAD AT ALL FOR THE FIRST 4 WEEKS. Week 5: Add back regular diet slowly.
  15. It's been a couple of weeks since I posted, so here's my update. I finally got all of my weight loss study paperwork sent to my surgeon and they told me to go have my blood work re-done before they would submit to insurance, just to be safe. I went and had that done yesterday (they got it on the first stick!), they said it would just be a couple of days then they will fax to surgeon! I'm so nervous about insurance approval now it's ridiculous. I'm terrified they will deny me again bc I only maintained on the study, the weight just wouldn't come off. I would weigh in the morning and have lost 7 lbs, then by my afternoon appt it would all be back even if I didn't eat ???????? I'm so close now, I just can't give up! Anyone else have crazy nerves about insurance approval? I think this is the worst part for me. Sent from my SM-T530NU using the BariatricPal App
  16. Since October 1, 2013 I've been going back and forth with my health insurance, the Obamacare Healthcare Marketplace debacle. I thought I was all set to have my new insurance in place on Jan. 1st, then I get a call from my Horizon Insurance agent this afternoon. Long story short, what I thought was done was not done. I completely lost it, colorful language, tears, yelling...the whole nine. No, I am not proud of my outburst because it is so out of character for me. I'm the ultimate professional at all times and I always seem to smile through my pain, disappointment, anger, etc., but today was NOT the day! I feel like I ALWAYS do things the right way, by the book and I always get screwed:( I have 4 doctors appointments this week which will have me all done with my pre-op appointments, AND I AM DETERMINED TO NOT LET ANYTHING OR ANYONE GET IN MY WAY OF BEING SLEEVED, PERIOD! Of course, I apologized to the person on the other end of the phone, as I felt very embarrassed about how I behaved, and we even laughed about it (she said she's heard every curse word ever said today because it's so close to the Jan. 1st deadline). I made a few phone calls and it will be resolved by tomorrow morning (my new insurance will be processed and I will make the premium payment in time for the Jan. 1st effective date). Now, as I get closer to being sleeved, I realize how really, really important all of this is to me.

    Final pre-op requirement done!

@ Were you previously denied? I can't imagine you will have difficulty getting approved. I was nervous and there was no need to be. I called the week after it was submitted and the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office said "oh yeah - that was approved right away". I suggest you check back in with them in the next couple of days to make sure it got submitted and to find out a status. Don't hesitate to call insurance and ask them too. Fingers crossed!
  18. I'm new to this forum but had my surgery on August 4, 2007. I had my last child in 1985 and now that he has graduated from college, feel I can no longer say I am still getting rid of that baby fat! (yes I have been 100 pounds over weight since his birth!) The surgery went well and just this week I have begun to feel hungry and am starting to eat more. I have lost 33 pounds since the surgery and don't want to fail now! But suddenly I feel I can eat more than I should be able to. I am exercising, doing step class and weight class and walking. I called today to get my first fill. It is scheduled in a week. I'm very nervous about it, because it has been nice not doing anything at the doctors! I just hope it doesn't hurt. I'm very done with pain after the hurting from the surgery. I am a little shy about posting my feelings on any site! But just think it's time to see how others are doing with this procedure. :paranoid
  19. I've lost about 4lbs this month but stalled for the last 2-3 weeks. I know that it's been socializing and not having as much control over my food. I know I haven't worked out enough. I need to get back on treacle! I'm down about 53lbs on 5 months.
  20. I had dips of low blood sugar when I first started so I would get dizzy or start shaking so I had to get just a couple pieces of fruit or one of my luna protein bars I found in the super market & that seemed to help me but fainting no I just felt real week , even before surery and after so I hope this helped.
  21. Looking for friendly sleevers in Chicago to be sleever/workout buddies with. New to Chicago and do not know anyone who has had this procedure! Looking for support and friendship. I'm IN Chicago, not in the suburbs. Sara

    2 month stall?

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. Other than a stall at about three weeks post-op, I am not aware of a particular pattern that applies to everyone. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  23. I'm 5 weeks out. And personally, a new band every 10 years would be worth it to me. I guess I was wondering what your immediate impressions are of the band post op? I was frustrated immediately following the surgery. You don't have restriction at that point... you still get hungry (or at least I did). I had swelling for 2 weeks, so wasn't starving, but after that I could have eaten a horse! Thank goodness for fills! People warn you that the first 6 weeks is for healing & that any weight you lose during that time is from will-power & is a gift... but you don't realize it until you're in it. It's a long time! And of course everyone you've told is looking for your weight loss, lol, and you're sitting still. Irritating. Are you amazed? I am amazed at how quickly the pain faded. At the time, it seemed unending, but it really was gone quickly. I wasn't this far along this quickly after knee surgery! Currently, after my first fill, I'm amazed at not being hungry. I know I'm still able to eat more then I "should", but it's SO much less then I used to eat. I can be patient & wait for my fills to limit my eating further. What a tool! Are you disappointed? I was disappointed with myself & my will power during the healing period (I didn't limit my calories at ALL, lol). I'm not disappointed with the band at all. It's too early to tell, but it seems to be working amazingly! Are you tickled pink? Maybe light pink, lol. I am excited & thrilled to think that this is actually going to work. That even if I cheat... even if I binge... the band will limit how much damage I can do. What a blessing! Are you mourning food? Yes. I don't think I was really prepared mentally. I'm not sure there is a way to GET prepared. You don't know how you'll react until it's gone. I can actually eat anything I want -- bread, Pasta, rice, steak, you name it. But I can't eat as MUCH as I want, lol. It irritates me, lol. I'm sure I'll get over it in time... I'm working on it!

    Thank all of you!

I'm trying to still stay within the guidelines, but it's hard when I got the lapband because I couldn't control my eating in the first place. For about two weeks after my fills, I feel restricted and can't eat even the 1/2 cup of food at meals and do lose weight, but then I become able to eat anything and it is a constant fight to not eat constantly. I don't know if I am just not restricted enough or maybe have a leak of the saline. I'm getting another fill next week and hope it helps. I'll talk to the doctor then too.
  25. Just wondering what everyone is eating one week after the sleeve
