    Thinning Hair???

About 6 months post op I started loosing hair. I went to the dermatologist and he said it was from rapid weight loss. He said your body goes into a kind of shock. It stopped a couple months later. I didn't take any kind of supplement, and ate about 80 gms of protien a day. I was lucky to have started out with a pretty thick head of hair.

Need to have a Lapband unsuccess story tab

Kris... i look at your before and after and think that you have done an amazing job. I'm go to tell you what i saw in your photo gallery.... Older pictures of you, you looked sad and underlay miserable. I can now see why this A$$ hole latched on too you. In the Healthier pictures... you look so happy and confident... stay this way... Sojourne has given you great advice. Sounds to me like you are feeling some guilt about losing weight. Guilt about the ex-cheating-bastard.... So what if he like big girls. He probably can't handle the new, beautiful, healthy, confident and strong woman you have become. He likes big girls because we have low self esteem and self worth and are easily controlled. This is why he moved on from you, you were in control you. But now You are letting him control you even though you are not with him anymore by sabotaging your weight loss... STOPPPP letting this happen... Please go see someone and don't give up and don't let others determine your self worth. You will find someone that will love the person you are and not care about your size.. big or small.
  3. Had my lapband in Oct 2009. After a 100 loss and 2 1/2 yrs later, I started having severe nightime reflux. Was scared my dr would take out some of my fill so I just suffered. Finally after 4 mths my hubby talked me into going in. My band had slipped. They took out about 50% of my 10cc fill (14cc band) and no more reflux. So they started filling me 1cc at a time. At 2cc, the reflux began again. So they took out the previous 1cc they gave me and told me it was now up to me. My band was done with it's work. About 6 mths later, I was in the ER with extreme upper abdominal pain. I was taking 40 mg of Rx Prilosec 2x a day, OTC Zantac x 4 and Tums like candy. After my CT, the determined my band had herniated, about the worst "slip" u can have. Had an emergency total unfill and arranged for my sleeve revision 9 mths ago. U need to have the reflux checked out. I'm assuming that they've ruled out a slip? My primary care told me if left untreated, reflux can lead to esophageal cancer. It needs to be fixed, whatever u decide to do. So, so, so happy I had my revision. While I'll most likely be on PPI's forever (most sleeve patients are), I no longer vomit on a regular basis. Good luck to u!

    Eating

800 calories a day is great at 4 weeks. I was able to start getting that high once I was on solid foods. I pushed hard to get up to around 1100 calories a day when I started intense workouts and spent most of my weight loss phase at about 1400-1500 a day. Sounds like you are doing well!

    Hair question

Most importantly make sure you get lots of protein, your diet is key to your hair loss, also of course take care of your hair and you cando coconut oil treatments , put it in your hair and leave it in overnight and wash out the next day and condition and you should always use professional shampoo especially if your hair is color treated! Good luck, hope this helps! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Submission Finally

Congratulations on your paperwork being submitted. It really is an achievement in this process. The next goal is getting that yes and you are close to getting it. I understand why you can’t wait. I love my sleeve. Surgery went well for me as did folllowing the post-surgery diet. My surgery was 12/28/17 so I’m about 3 1/2 months post-surgery. The weight loss has been slow and steady for me. Yay! What a great day for you - soak it in. 💐

    Would You Do It Again?

I'd do it again for sure. And again. And again. The results were more than I could have hoped for, and it was the icing on the cake of my weight loss. That said, I had a great surgeon, nearly no complications and no keloid scarring, so in that respect, I could not have had a better experience.

    considering/newbie

Hi there! Welcome to LBT :girl_hug: I was banded in Oct 2005 @ 234 lbs. My highest was 255, it took me 6 mo to consider the options... in the end my decision was based on it being the most permanent weight loss option I could find at the time. Approx 2-3 weeks before surgery I did a high protein/low carb diet to help shrink my liver (so it would give the Dr more room to move around in there) which helped me lose 10-15 lbs of Water weight. Although, I've only lost 60 lbs (I'm not the model bandster) I feel good about where I'm at and have the tool I need to continue my efforts. On a daily basis I get compliments from people at work, and just the other day one person said they've noticed how well I've been able to keep it off. It's all due to the band. There's no way I would have been able to keep it off on my own. Can't help you with the insurance question, I was self pay and would do it all again. I would encourage you to go thru the steps, try to see if it would be covered.... many insurance companies do cover it. This site is a wealth of information, you'll read about the many different side effects you can expect MIGHT happen. I, personally, did not experience any horrible side effects... but your abdomen is very sore the first few days, you might have gas pains, and you'll need lots of rest. If your family is supportive, you can always begin practicing the post surgery routine early... you'll need to give the childcare over to your husband for a couple of days. Fills... depends on how fast you want to lose. If you check my signature, you'll see I was real conservative... only getting .5 each time I went. I did not always have the luxury of going as often as I would have liked (ran out of vacation time). My fills were free for the 1st year and I have not had one in some time.... but, I am at a comfortable level. However, I know I need to get back in for another fill to kick start my loss again. So, I would say the best thing you can do for yourself is to be an active participant in this process... stay active here and you'll learn a bunch! all the best,
  9. I consider myself a slow but steady loser and I'm fine with that. Weight loss this time is still faster than any of the old diets I tried. I'm 56 and not very active in the winter so that's a part of it as well. Loose skin, oh yeah, it's starting to hang. My arms and legs will look pretty bad. I guess it depends on age, where you carry your weight and how much you have to loose and hereditary factors etc. Advise: Follow your Dr's instructions. Be prepared that after surgery your band might not work to it's best until you get fills and it could take several fills until your band is adjusted well. During that time you might find you can eat at your pre-band amounts. If you do not control that you could gain. Eventually, the band will work, but it takes patience and it's best to know that ahead of time. My husband is totally tired of hearing about my band! LOL. He just pretends to listen. Welcome to the forum.
  10. Wow...sounds like you had a great psych eval! Mine is tomorrow and I wasn't expecting anything that thorough. I am seeing a LCSW and I don't think she particularly specializes in weight loss issues. My work has an EAP program so I just took the first appointment that they offered me since it is free and I wanted to get it done. Thanks for posting what your session was like as it gives me something to compare mine to. I have to admit that I was considering this just a "check off" of the things that I have to get done before I get to have surgery and that 90% of the session would be made up of her assessing whether or not my ideas about the surgery are realistic. It may turn out to be more than that though and I am looking forward to seeing what it will be like. Thanks again for sharing!

    HAIR-LOSS

I had it on 4/29 and I am scared of hair lost don't know if anyone loses it this early
  12. I am so excited I am one more step closer to have the Sleeve. I completed my Psych eval yesterday and passed.. Just talked to the coordinator at the doctors office (Dr Nick). She is going to submit everything to the insurance today. Of course she says they have 30 days to approve it. I am going to be calling the insurance company later this week and see what they say. I read on here if you keep bugging them they might move it faster. I sure hope so. She said once the insurance approves it then i can get in for my consultation within a week. Then the rest depends on what kinds of test the doctor orders and how fast i can get that done. I really want would like this done by mid February but that is probably pushing it. I have ordered my Protein samples so that i can get started on finding one that I like. I got a couple of books on life after weight loss surgery. Trying to cover everything and be ready. I hear everyone talk about the shakes for the 2 weeks pre op diet. Is there certain ones each doctor requires? I know the nutritionist would probably be the one to tell me but I just like to be prepared. Is it anything like Herbalife shakes? This is all I can think about. I really need to focus on other things so the time goes faster.. Thanks for listening to my rambling.
  13. Congratulation Philip. Fantastic weight loss! Keep up the good work.
  14. What a long, strange 6 weeks this has been. It seems such a long time ago that I was laying in the recovery room in horrible pain. This process has not gone at all how I have expected. My first 2 weeks I dropped 37 pounds. Then the scale didn't move AT ALL for 3 weeks. 3 weeks in a row I got on the scale to just get the exact same number. It was so discouraging. Today I got on the scale & I was down 5 lbs. Finally I am moving in the right direction again. I thought that I would have lost more by now. I do recognize (even with a 3 week stall) that my weight loss average is a pound per day over the past 42 days. That is a lot of weight. I also have finally broken through one of my biggest mental fears. I have been in the 380's many times in the past few years. I have never made it into the 370's. With my 3 weeks stall I was afraid that I was doomed to stay in the 380's. Well, today I am in the 370's. Over the past 6 weeks I have learned many things but there are 2 major lessons that I have taken away. The first is not to compare my weight loss to others. That is the most self-defeating behavior. If I looked at just my weight loss, I would be happy. When I compare myself to others is when I start to stress myself out & feel discouraged. The second lesson is to just follow the program. If I eat healthy, incorporate exercise & listen to my body then I will lose weight. It might not be the way that I expected, but it will come off. I am just starting this new journey. I need to be strong & have faith in myself & the process.

    Pre op weight

I was recently given an weight loss goal of -14 lbs. I've lost weight before but the fact that everything is starting now has given me so much anxiety. I just want a snack ( or two)!!! But I told myself I'm going to start Aqua Zumba and water aerobics at the gym and I have to begin following the Pre Op program again...Wish me luck
  16. Hello BariatricPal Friends! It's been close to 4 years since I've posted on here and didn't realize this site was still kicking! Anyway, I'm here to tell you about my story about me and my Lap-Band. I've had my Lap-Band for 2 and a half years before I had revision surgery because mine slipped due to me losing too much weight and my adjustments were very frequent. Before revision surgery, I was down 120lbs. After revision, I haven't gone back to the doctor. The last four years of my life have been a roller coaster. I'm close to my starting weight before starting my journey in 2013. Well after getting married, my daughter being born and fast forward to 2017, I'm back where I started before getting weight loss surgery... Crazy huh? It's not a good feeling by any means that's for sure. I could sit here all night and give a list of excuses. The biggest area of my problems was in my marriage (currently getting divorced). My significant other was against my surgery after my revision and it was a downward spiral from there emotionally, mentally and spiritually among other martial issues that hindered my weight. I got into bad habits again and just felt like my self worth and self esteem was non exist. I picked up all my weight I worked so hard to lose. Worst feeling in the world and feel like my surgery wasn't worth it and that I'm just another lap band patient that picked all their weight back up! Well now going through the motions of a divorce and will be putting it in the past once everything is settled, I've started to get back in the groove of things and I'm getting back to my old self again of taking control and have already seen weight loss and have seen my Lap Band doctor. I'm glad to be back on track and I can't wait to see the what future holds! -I'm a 5 year veteran with plenty of experience with the lap band so if anyone needs advice or wants to ask questions let me know! I used to be very active on this site! -Amine

Make sure you are doing this for you. Be realistic n your expectations. I know skinny friends who get chubb rub. That' just the way some people are built. Know that you have to be committed to changing your way of eating & drinking. You entire relationship with food changes. I have a very active social life. I eat out frequently and a lot of my family gatherings revolve around food. I know that to be successful I cannot mindlessly eat. I enjoy social engagements, but I mind my portions. I do NOT diet. Exercise is also very important for continued success. I work out regularly and enjoy it. I have had nothing but support from everyone I have shared my surgery with. I haven't rushed and and volunteered the info, but if it came up in conversation I had no problem letting someone know I had surgery. It was important to me not to stigmatize WLS. We remove our tonsils when they get infected and cause us problems, this was same thing to me. I needed this surgery to work along with my weight loss efforts. Keep in mind this is not a magic wand, but a tool that you can use to help you in your weight loss effort. Hard work is still required.

    vitamin D

My Vitamin d is really low too. Most asian women (including east indian) have low vitamin d levels. Call me crazy, but I think it is contributing to my slower weight loss since banding too. I've been put on mega doses of vitamin d for the next 3 months to try to get my levels up to normal. I've been on a little plateau for about a month and am tired often....I have a fill scheduled for tomorrow and will try to get answers to my questions about if it is affecting my rate of weight loss.

    Pre-op diet

Good luck!!!! Just think of the early jump in weight loss you will have going into surgery! It's interesting how ever doctor's pre-op diet is slightly different, some shorter or longer too!

    Stuck between 35-40 pounds?

I have been reading the posts and alot of people seem to be stuck at this weight loss. I am 5 months out from surgery and have lost 38 pounds but most of this was lost at the beginning. I have had my 3rd fill and I do have restriction although at night I can definitely eat more, but I am getting more sensitive to certain foods. Lasst time I had my fill I lost around 5 pounds. This time 2 pounds. My fill was on Jan. 28th. Anyone have anything to tell me???

    Hello-can't wait to get skinny!

Hi Amy -- congrats on your surgery. Your post caught my eye because you want to get skinny and I do too but more importantly, I want to get Healthy! I am loving being able to fit into smaller size clothing but I am even more so loving the decreased pain on my knees from losing alot of weight, the mental boost it has given me in self esteem, the opportunity to do things physically I couldn't do before, and I got off my cholesterol medicine within 3 months of surgery and haven't needed it since. I didn't have diabetes but I've heard so many positive comments about that illness being eliminated or drastically reduced from weight loss after lapband too that I would just encourage you to set being skinny and healthy as your combined goal. God Bless.

    Question on TT

Hi I had an extended Tummy Tuck. I worn my binder (girdle) for 3 months. I found I didn't have much of an appetite following the surgery. I found when I had the binder on it was very restricting... but the end results were worth it. I also had 4 drains in. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 156 lbs
  23. I was told it has empty calories, no nutritional value and can be a gateway to other foods/bad habits. It just isn't worth drinking. Before surgery, I wasn't a big pop/soda drinker, but I would get a craving for Coke. It is the only thing I've ever truly craved. I know for me, it was one of the things that factored into my originally gaining weight. I had no idea how many calories were in it, and I was drinking it daily. That hasn't been true for me for many years. When I started on my weight loss journey, one of the first things I did was stop drinking pop. In reviewing my bad eating habits before surgery, I've found that I drank more pop when I was eating more on the run. It seems to be a gateway to bad habits for me. And I figure I can only have so many bad habits. I plan to resume drinking alcohol in the future, so I am willing to give up pop.

    My thanksgiving day rant

Excellent point And to the OP... you're doing great. It doesn't matter what anyone else does or thinks. Let them eat like starving dogs and eventually deal with the ramifications later. Just do what you gotta do and know inside you're doing the best thing for you. By the way, I don't think people noticed my weight loss until I hit about 50 pounds down.
