    Lower BMI - Skin/recovery

Hey.... Happy for you that your insurance will cover. Just an FYI: If you want to really make sure, gain 10 and that would put you at a 40BMI and you are a shoo-in. I did and would do it again and again and again. Back in 2009 i was at 223lbs... which put me at a 40 bmi but no co morbidities. So just to be on the safe side i put on 10. Approved in 3 days. Gain 10 to lose 89, yep yep. 5'2" began at 232. I was banded. Weightloss was slow and i hated that... then i realized that losing it slow was really a blessing. I has no problems with my arms, leg, but and even my boobs (44G). My problem was my stomach. I had 2 sections, hysterectomy, gallbladder at the time. Then the LB. My boobs went to a 36H. and so this is where i stayed for years..... at 143#. In 2012 i had a TT with MR and lipo on flanks. Then i lost my band due to a slip in 2017 and in 2.5 years i gained 30lbs. Hit menopause and everything went to crap. No matter what i did. So this past Aug. at 173.5lbs i had the sleeve done. I've lost weight pretty fast. I can see the sagging now in my arms and butt.... and i lost a couple of cups in the boobs.... now a 32FF. I say losing weight slowly worked i better for me the first time...... I am smaller than i was at my lowest with the band.... 143..... Today i weight 128
  2. Feeling pretty excited today! I've still been losing weight but more slowly. And fit into a pair of size 30 (size 10) jeans last week that one of my friends gave me! I got rid of all my "skinny" size 10 clothes years ago, so I immediately ordered a couple more pairs of size 10 capris/ankle jeans since the smallest I have are size 12s. It's funny how I still didn't really believe I'm a size 10 now, I was convinced it was a fluke and the new jeans I ordered would not fit. But they did! 😁 Today was a scale victory day. The lowest I've been since surgery was 180.4 (on my one year surgiversary) and then I gained a little back. I feel like getting lower than 180 was scary to me because I still worry about keeping the weight off. Today the scale said 179.2! 😀 I'm feeling less worried about getting smaller and keeping the weight off. It is easier to lose for me since surgery than before, where I'd have to kill myself to lose weight. I did maintain the 180ish for a good amount of time so I just need to get to my goal and then focus on maintaining again. I don't think I've ever worn a size 8 in my life, but I think that's my goal. We'll see when I get there. 😉 Hoping to reach goal by my two year surgiversary on July 2nd.

    Low Blood Pressure

Low blood pressure has become a way of life for me. I always have to get up slowly (10 secs or so) or Im on the floor. I think this is from dropping weight so quickly and hope it will get better when my body gets more used to the change over a period of time. Ill keep you posted.
  4. LOL, I only realized that I needed a new bra size after this crazy COVID-19 pandemic. Don't get me wrong I wen down more than one bra size, but I truly thought that I was done once I hit 40 D. Several weeks ago, Walmart employees thought I was nutz asking if they still carried 18 hour bras. I couldn't find them... until 30 minutes or so later, I did and they did not have whatever size I probably am now. I was able to find a 38 C which is a little too big, but whats a girl to do. I can't stand not wearing a bra, I hate how it feels. As the character Karen Walker, from Will and Grace might say with her fists balled up to the sky, "Oh, the boobyness of it all" or "Oh, the my boobs look like I am a crappy ironer of it all"! I dunno, for anyone that watches Will and Grace what might their character's say? They are all hilarious to me, but I think that Jack and Karen might be my favorite! LOL, man the fact that I can still laugh with a 5 year old child, 12 year old child, a dog, a cat is home all while I am a full time student and I have to work from home at the moment. OMGoodness, they argue and eat so much. Yikes! Especially being in these crazy, unknown times...Laugter, Please, give me more laughter!
  5. Still great though ! Proud of you ! I took so much longer to recover.i was sleeved 11/15/19 and I'm down 43 pounds. It's been slow . But your loss is amazing ! Congrats on the sleeve!! [emoji126] Sent from my moto g(7) supra using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. We have very similar stats - my surgery was on March 11th. I was 204 on the day of surgery - lost 19 lbs since then. It's really slowed down after the first few weeks - I've also only lost 3 lbs over the past two weeks. On the other hand, this is the lowest weight I've been in a decade. 6 more lbs, and I'll be the lowest weight of my adult life. And last time I was at this weight, I was STARVING all the time. Right now, I have to remind myself to eat most days. So I'm feeling pretty confident that the weight loss will continue. Even at a lb a week, I'd reach a normal weight by 2021. That would have been impossible before this surgery. This forum has been so helpful to maintaining my positive attitude. There are other slow losers here who are farther along in their journey - so you see it does work! As for the drinking, I did drink alcohol once since my surgery. However, I will try not to do that again for a while. I'm less worried about calories or slowing my weight loss than other issues. As NovaLuna says, bariatric surgery definitely changes how you process alcohol - I could tell this from my try. And studies show increased risks of addiction and alcohol related death or health problems after bariatric surgery. I had some issues with alcohol in my 20s, and I don't want to trade one problem for another. But please don't beat yourself up about it! That won't help. It's a really tough time right now for most people. Taking it day by day and doing our best is all we can do.
  7. Hey everyone! So as of this morning I reached my first goal to get in the 180’s. I’m super excited but when I did the math it literally took me two weeks to lose 3 lbs. Since surgery I’ve only lost 17bs and I think I may be doing something wrong. To be honest I’ve been drinking red wine in the evenings, like 2 glasses every couple days. I feel guilty but quarantined with my 14 and 10 year old and working from home is getting to me. Would the drinking have that large of an effect? Based on you guys past experience is this average for someone starting with a 38 BMI. Just looking for some encouragement or a swift kick in the butt.
  8. Ugh, I fainted this morning on my way out of bed. This happens about every six months. I had low blood pressure 82/49 and my pulse was 64. I have half the symptoms of hypotension: dizziness, fainting, fatigue, and problems concentrating. From the studies I read Gastric Sleeve can cause low blood pressure and it's really not an issue UNLESS you have issues like fainting. My blood pressure has always been on the low side, but not this low. A normal pulse range is 60 to 100 beats per minute. If you're sedentary most of the day, like me during the pandemic, your RHR likely approaches or exceeds the top end of this range. Well, mine's at rock bottom. My PCP and surgeon both work in the hospital where they are treating COVID-19 patients and I am not comfortable going there. Fortunately, I can message either of them, which I'll do. OK, here's the question. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do? Did anything help?

    Question for vets

10 Months and still full restricted eat very little
  11. Hey! I’m new here. Stats first. Starting weight :270 height: 5” 4” Surgery date: July 18 2019. Current weight: 177. Goal weight: 145 I know that by now I should be getting the hang of this eating situation, now that I’m 9 months post op. I just can’t seem to get control over my eating. To make matters complicated, no matter what in the world I’ve been eating, I’ve been losing weight nicely and have no complications whatsoever. I really have no motivation to eat ‘healthy’. The reason I did this surgery was to become HEALTHY, not to lose weight while stuffing my face with whatever I want.. I’m confused. To what extent to I need to “diet” if I’m mal-absorbent? My bloods are fine. I’m on top of my vitamins. I work out every day. Should I be concerned about my eating? Do I have to watch strictly or eat only healthy? Because at this point it doesn’t seem to be making a difference. Sure, if I eat oily foods I have bathroom issues. But weight wise my eating seems to do nothing.

    First (tele)visit tomorrow

Hi!!! I’m so exited for you all. I had my first appointment In July 2019. My insurance requirements are 4 months of monitoring. Long story short, my surgery is May 6th, insurance is covering it. There’s been ups and downs along the way. It’s taken longer then I thought it would. Don’t get Discouraged, be your own advocate and know where your at in the process. My doctors office dropped the ball after Christmas and that’s why it’s taken so long.

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

You’re welcome. I was 100% convinced I was going to be one of those people that dropped weight quickly. 6 months post surgery I was at my wits end (February 2019), I think I lost 2 pounds that month and I was so frustrated. I joined a gym in March and it really helped me mentally and physically. I did have many pity parties along the way, mostly whining to my husband lol. I refused to fail at this, it was harder than I thought it was going to be. In hindsight, I’m glad I lost it slowly. I don’t take one pound for granted. It also helped prepare me for my current life. I have to watch what I eat and chart everything because I gain very easily. I prefer this to being overweight. Keep going, you won’t regret it.
  15. I posted a while ago about my weight loss, and regain and taking control again. Started at 320 or there abouts 5'2" and 54 years old 10 years ago. VSG. Lost weight and got to 180 pounds. Over 8 years I regained to 220. Started slow weight loss / getting back into control in mid July this past year. I have now lost 30 pounds. Back to 190. I started my weight loss with a BMI over 54 in the 300's. I am still considered obese at 190 and a BMI just under 34; but darn it, I am so flipping proud of myself. Yes, I am 64 years old. No, I can't really exercise ... but I do some short walks and I garden and vegetable garden, take care of my chickens. I had to get a local teen to help me lift 40 pound bags of feed this year; but I can still haul the 25 lb bags.... and I continue to work full time in my career. Life is good. In my weight loss journey this time out, I stopped at 20 pounds lost and took a break. I experimented with adding in more foods, and balancing out what I needed to do to maintain that 20 pound loss, and did that for a month, then decided to lose some more. I think that i never really paid all that much attention to how much, what kinds of foods how I Prepare them.... and exactly how my body reacts to it. I use very little salt at home. When I eat out, I gain weight from the added salt. Yes, it is water weight from the salt; but being on lock down at home and working from home, with no lunches out for meetings.... going to have to find places to lunch that cut the sodium out !!! Going to continue what I am doing. Taking breaks, slow weight loss and maybe make it down to overweight, or not.... but will be pleased to keep that 30 # off !!! Still using my VSG. 10 years later.

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

Hey Grace! Sorry things are going so slowly for you! I have been a slow loser without the surgery, as well as pretty slow since; sounds like you were able to lose weight more rapidly before. I also feel like time is moving SOOOOO slowly during this pandemic that it makes it even worse! I am sorry you feel so hungry. Have you tried eating your desired amount (say 2 oz. of protein plus some veggies;) waiting 10 minutes and if you still feel hungry slowly eating some more protein? If you fee "sated" that may make you less hungry for longer. Might be worth a try. For what it is worth, I am not filled up by the protein drinks, although i know some folks are. I also use a different kind of protein drink that does not use artificial sugars, so that may be why. As a result, I use the drink as an after dinner "snack"; if I feel particularly hungry I mix it with Fairlife milk (1/2 cup). Big protein hit, and stops me (usually) from other mindless snacking. Late night eating is my Achilles heel! My latest item I need to keep the heck out of my house is mixed nuts....I will try to "eat a handful" and before I know it I've blown 200 calories! Hang in there Grace; I hope the scale starts to move, the weather gets better, the pandemic ends, and all of our spirits start to lift!

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

I feel like I’m experiencing a 3 month stall as well however it’s not my first stall. Might be my third. Still averaging 10 lbs a month so I will take it. 260 to 245 since Jan 13

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

I was 204 pounds the day of my surgery. I lost 20 something prior to my surgery as a part of the program I am in. I looked up my records: 8/13/18: 204 10/1/17: 188.6 16 pounds or so, I was eating 600ish calories a day, and yes it pissed me off. I dug deep and knew logically something had to give simply because it’s impossible NOT to lose weight with so few calories. I had a month when I lost 2 pounds! I lost weight very slowly, but I’ve lost 100 pounds *80 after surgery, and I’ve been keeping it off. It isn’t easy and it is frustrating but you can do this is you want it. I’ve posted my weight loss chart here before, I’ll dig it out and repost it. You are not alone and you’re not the only person who has this experience. It sucks, but it is what it is. You CAN do this and you can be frustrated.
  21. Oh thanks! I was due for a thyroid test in March but had my surgery 16th and COVID-19 shut all blood clinics so need to wait to see if it is. Hopefully get some answers 😊 I was stalled last week and gained 1lb and only lost 1.5lbs this week. It's really getting me down.
  22. I was diagnosed with hypothroidism in July 2019, and had Loop DS. I've had a helluva time the last month or so with dizziness, fatigue, etc. My primary care doc did blood tests to check some things and found me potassium deficient and my thyroid underactive... again! I had been on the right dose before surgery, but your body goes through changes and so she had to up my dose. I've been losing slightly more weight in the last week since she upped my dose as I lost five pounds instead of my average of 3-4 so I'd say it's working. Hope they figure out what's going on and if it's your thyroid find the right dosage!
  23. Thanks. I just wondered because I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid in February 2019 and found the correct dose for me around June (150mg thyroxine). I'll call my surgeon Monday 😊
  24. Has anyone been diagnosed hypothyroidism and had a gastric bypass? I'm 4wks post op and been so tired and lost a lot less weight than expected. Typical hypothyroidism symptoms. I can't get my blood test done for a while due to COVID-19. Just wondered if one of the internal changes after surgery were thyroid hormone production? Thanks

    Bacon....

I also go not care for eggs or bananas. I also do not like artificial sweeteners. So I struggled hard my first 10 weeks after surgery. I was able to get my protein with FairLife Milk and CorePower protein drinks. I am now 6 months post op. I can not eat bacon or sausage. It makes me rather nauseous. I would suggest trying other things that provide protein with less fat and sodium. But who am I to say. I do not want to return to my bad eating habits. I struggle with being able to exercise due to me being handicapped. We all have our own struggles and vices. I recommend searching your soul. Find out what and who you are in your self. It is not an easy process, but you find out what you have been lying to yourself about for years, in my case decades. After all if you have told yourself this crap, what have you told others. Be true to yourself , or your life will be false to you.
