    3 day post OP

Congratulations and welcome to your new life! Stay connected here. Walk a lot. Karate chops on the neck and shoulder helped me. Every day you should feel a little better, not worse. Stay off the scale. It will drop but then you will gain a bit after a couple of weeks. Don't let that discourage you. Stay on plan and you will start to lose consistently. One year from now you will be amazed at your new self. This will also be a glorious summer for you. How exciting!

Birth control pills and blood clots

When I had my appendectomy last year I acquired three blood clots in my right arm after surgery, the doctors said that it was a combination of the estrogen birth control that I was taking and my weight. I’m sorry you can’t have your surgery yet but I’m SO glad you caught this before something more serious happened. If you ever need help or info about blood clots just let know, I’ve been through it all. I also have post thrombotic syndrome now in my arm because of the damage the clots did to my veins. Just keep your chin up and keep being the champ you are! ❤️❤️❤️

  4. Sounds like a stall. You can weight it out, or just start changing things up. Eat less, eat a little more, add more exercise, add in weight training. Out bodies hit stalls when they get comfortable. I've had 2 big ones so far and I'm just now 6 monhs out.

    Insurance Help

Regardless of what health insurance you have, the bottom line is going to be what your employer has contracted with the insurance co. You need to check with your benefits coordinator to find out what you do or don't have. Ex. Is weight reduction surgery included, and if so what type of surgery (gastric bypass, lapband, etc.). Or they may have a specific exclusion on any or all WLS. You really need to check direct to find out what you have available. Good luck!

    Longevity Question

One of my big concerns was that I read a report that said that 40% of bands had to be removed within 12 years. This was from a pro-Band information site. They did make the point that the technology is improving all the time so this stat would most likely improve as well. I almost chose against the band, but then I looked at it in a different way. I can either have the surgery now and take care of this weight and *maybe* have another surgery within the next 10 years to replace a faulty/old band or most likely have surgery within the next 10 years for an obesity related condition (loss of a limb due to diabetes, heart attack, etc.)...which will not get better as time goes on either. The band has a better prognosis than remaining obese. .
  8. Hi There! I'm Jes. I'm twenty four.. from Baltimore, Maryland. I had my sleeve on December 20th, 2010. So I will be ten months out in just three dates. I started my journey at 317 pounds, day of surgery I was 292. And, today I'm at 175 pounds. To date the brings me to a total f 142 pounds lost. My original goal weight was 150 pounds. But, even then at 5'5 my BMI would be considered over weight. So at my last visit my surgeon and I jokingly agreed my new goal weight was 147. So either way you look at it I have 25lbs or 27 lbs. I started wearing a 24/26 and a 2/3 x top. I'm now in a 12/14 and a Medium top. SUPER excited. My personal goal was a 14 because I couldn't ever remember fitting into a 14. And, now they're starting to be too big.... AMAZING! I've noticed lately the only time I lose weight is when it's TOM! I was hoping to reach goal by my 1 year mark. But, at this point I'll be happy with just meeting goal in general!
  9. Good for you for being so close to goal! You and I are close to the same weight (I'm 3 pounds more) so I appreciate how hard the last little bit is. I have been stuck between 166-168 for almost 3 weeks and it's driving me crazy. Just this week I increased my exercise and decreased my calories, so hopefully that will do the trick. Your list of goals sounds great- good luck- you can do this!

    Stuck

My first week I lost 10 pounds then the other 2 weeks I lost 1-2 pounds each week. Don't weight yourself so much, try once a week. And remember, you may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. You're doing fine as long as you keep up with the post-op diet and exercise. + Pounds Already?

Hi. I was sleeved June 8. I was down (pre-and post-op) from 310 to 282. Then the last 3 days I've gained weight. Now I'm 286. I have my one week follow up appointment today, but should I be concerned about weight gain? I'm following their instructions and diet... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight loss?

#1 I know your meals sound just fine and cals presumably low, but I would love to see the caloric breakdown. #2 You admitted you were less active. Remember, wl= calories in - calories burned. If your calories in is constant and you decreased cals burned than expect less wl or even a gain. #3 Being back to work as an RN can be taxing. Fatigue unto itself burns calories. Don't overlook the possibility you may indeed be more active than you realize and require more calories. Again, back to #1 what are you currently intaking? With the above info we can better discern which correction is more likely necessary. However, I do want to iterate that losing more than 2 lbs per week is not the goal. I always tell people that setting sensible expectations makes this journey more rewarding. Setting yourself up with insensible goals that cannot be maintained will only reinforce feelings of failure. SLOW and steady!

Losing weight = less fatty liver?

Since 9/7 I've lost 14 lbs. I think (I didn't record) I was 274 on 8/29 and today I'm 254. I have recorded weight on 9/7 at 268. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Life Spaces

Someone once told me that you cannot do much about the length of your life, but you can do a whole lot about the width and depth. So, think about improving your Life Spaces. I promise it will make a world of difference. Consider having Weight Loss Surgery and changing your life. If you are on this board you are thinking about it or have a date already set. I had a sleeve almost 3 years ago and it has changed my entire life--you can do the same thing with your life. You are going to feel sooooooooo much better and become healthy. Life is short don't give one more day away of your life being unhappy and unhealthy and being overweight. Hugs, Suzanne
  15. I’m 8 months out from surgery and am down almost 100 pounds. Last month I started having a lot of pain in my hips. My left one has actually dislocated. My knees do that and I’m used to it but never had that problem with my hips before. It’s to the point of starting to limp when just walking around the house and store. I had an MRI of both hips and they said it shows arthritis. Didn’t say how bad or anything and gave me a referral to an orthopedic doctor, who I see on the 18th. I always thought you were supposed to feel better after losing weight but am finding just the opposite is true for me. Has anyone else had this happen? How was it treated? I know we can’t take nsaids so not sure how it’s going to be treated. Kinda nervous right now.

    Tired

I have been tired tired tired for about a week and a half to two weeks. Hardly able to keep my eyes open, kind of tired. Surgery date was Dec 28. I began taking B-12 on January 28, the sub lingual, quick dissolve pills 5000mcg Natures' Bounty brand. I'm not sure that the B-12 has anything to do with my lack of energy or not. I went from power walking religiously nearly every day and going to the gym 3-4 days a week and hitting the weights, to not having the energy or will power to do the power walks. I'm still hitting the gym 3-4 times a week, but it is a real struggle. With the amount of protein I take in each day, it looks like I would have energy to spare. What gives? Just my body going through all the changes in relatively rapid order? Or should I try B-12 monthly injections instead of the OTC pills?

Love Hate Relationship With My Dr.

My doctor and the nutritionist have both referred to me as a "restrictor." Guess that's a label for those of us who have dieted like crazy and find it difficult to let go of those restrictions. Pre-band I have been no dairy, no wheat, no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol -- a lot of no-nos. So I'm trying to embrace all of it and just have those very small amounts of what it is my body is asking for. It wants dairy so I'm having some. Have not tried wheat yet and think I may not. My husband is celiac so we already have a wheat-free house. That is restrition of another kind, however, not that mental "can't have" game I have played so well the last two decades. Even though I'm so incredibly good at it, I was still unable to lose weight with that approach.

    Depressed

My doctor has not given me a fill in 3 months. I have some restriction, but the weight is not coming off. I stop eating when I get full . I had my band unfilled last February and it has been downward from there. I'm feeling really defeated with this whole process. Now she wants me to keep a food journal. It's very frustrating.
  19. I understand the fear of failure given I have lost weight many times and regained it. I am doing a few things different this time - I have very limited capacity in how much I can eat, I no longer have the rampant ongoing appetite, I too am working with a personal trainer to help the body adjust, and I have organized a few sessions with a Psychologist who has helped me through many life/health crisis's (spelling??). I'm also trying to stay more 'here and now' focused instead of loosing myself in future land. I'm not interested in giving myself a hard time about my previous failures - life is far too short. Good luck with your journey and I can only encourage you to focus on the positive.

    by-pass or lapband?

absolutely no problem deciding, zip, nada, no. Bypass has never been an option. Too many complications. Plus, I'm not on the higher end of the weight scale. 37 BMI but lots of medical issues. Plus my daughter has had and her best friend had bypass. World of difference, Plus being off work 6 weeks was not an option. Trisha

    New here!

Guess I should start here, seems like as good a place as any.....LOL I'm Lisa a 39 year old mommy of 3, I have 2 sons ages almost 7 and 3.5, and one beautiful little girl who is 10.5 months old. I'm done having babies so it's time for me to do something for myself, I have been overweight most of my life, my highest weight was 389, I have been as low as 160 at one point. I have great success with diets but like most people I can't maintain, currently I'm at 350, but haven't been below 300 lbs since I got married 12 years ago. Everytime I hit just about 300 lbs I ended up pregnant.....LOL I'm registered for a Realizeband seminar on the 25th of this month and it can't get here soon enough. I'm looking forward to making some great friends here, and getting some much needed inspiration from those of you who have been through this long, and sometimes frustrating, process of getting started.

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!

Your weight loss seems really normal for your starting weight!! Right on track. I scoured the boards and vlogs before my surgery to try to set some expectations. I also started at 250. For that weight (and my height... 5'7") it seemed highly typical to go 20-25lbs the first month then 10 ls a month thereafter (until somewhere around month 6-12 where things became harder). Everyone is totally different, and this is obviously anecdotal, but again and again it was what I was seeing (certainly with outliers!) I'd love to hit 50 lbs maybe 4-5 months in. The higher the weight, the faster it comes off, so don't dismay! I'm not immune to comparing (obviously) but never do it unless it's someone with a similar starting weight and height. Good luck!
