    Nervous and excited

With the sleeve you can eat whatever you want after the post op diet. I do have trouble telling when I am full. I have to stop eating by looking at the portion and knowing how much I can eat. If I eat until I am full at the table, I am too full and uncomfortable 15 min. later. There are a lot of us who are band to sleeve revisions and we are all thrilled to be rid of the band. As far as I know, there are only a couple of people who have trouble eating early in the day. I have been able to eat and drink right away from day 2 of surgery. I had to force myself to slow down when I was in the hospital, because I was supposed to only drink 2 oz every 15 min. I could have easily drank whatever they put in front of me. Feel free to ask anything. We are all glad to help. I revised to the sleeve after I gained 15 lbs back from having my band unfilled. I was a self pay though.

    June Surgeries

I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass June 14th. I started my pre-op diet Sunday and it's not too bad. I'm starting to get nervous though. Not looking forward to having to do this all over AGAIN.. I had my sleeve done in Oct 2017, and it hasn't been a fun ride since. I hope this time it turns out better. I am ready to get it over with 🤨😬.. . Wish everyone luck and a speedy recovery..
  4. I had my VSG on 4/8/2013. I lost @50 pounds and gained back about 20. I have several underlying medical issues which complicate my exercise but overall I am usually good with my food intake. Over the last year, I have developed what I think is acid reflux. It is so bad that I can't lie down and my healthy eating is now becoming more bland carb-focused because that's what I tolerate best. Even drinking a protein shake can be bothersome. I have NEVER experienced this before, not during any of my 3 pregnancies or at my heaviest weight. I am miserable! I have tried over-the-counter acid reducers and eat tums like candy. I finally talked to my PCP about this yesterday, she is sending me to a GI doctor. She mentioned she wasn't sure what my anatomy would be like now. That caused me to wonder if I should actually see a bariatric surgeon? I of course started to google and found that this can happen even so long out of surgery and that sometimes revision can fix it. Honestly, I don't hate this idea as id like to lose more weight but more so I just want to feel better. My BMI is 32.1 and I have the same insurance as I did 9 years ago. I'm clearly jumping ahead of myself but was wondering if anyone has experience with anything like this?

    Any June Sleevers?

The closer I get to surgery the more I think about my relationship with food over the years. Today, while cleaning, I came across my recipe box. I became overwhelmed with emotion and my first thought was to throw my recipes away. My first thought is usually wrong so I put them back in the box and back on top of the refrigerator. At some point I think I will revise my recipes to be post-op friendly. I admit it, I cried... My surgery is 20 days away!! June 25th.

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

Having gastric bypass on April 7th which is a revision of a reversal of a revision of a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty. This type surgery was before Lap-band availability. Super anxious to begin my new life.

    MGB weight loss stalled

susie - that has to be so frustrating. Do you have any idea why you've lost so little and so slowly? I can't get my head around the physiology of consistently following the rules and staying under 1200 calories. Do you find yourself yo-yoing off of plan sometimes? Or could there be something else contributing? It seems like even without any surgery, 1200 calories or less or healthy eating would result in weight loss. Please understand, not judging or doubting you - this is a fear I have following revision a month and a half ago, so I'm always eager to learn from others and what they're experiencing.
  9. In our case, the fundus is the stretchy part that makes up most of the greater, or outer, curvature of the stomach, and is what is removed when a sleeve gastrectomy is done, or is folded up and tied back in a sleeve plication. It looks like with the endoscopic procedure, they suture it up internally to make the fundus inaccessible, leaving the reduced "sleeve" like path open for restricted food flow. Being a fairly new procedure, one is fighting the learning curve - both for the individual surgeon and for the industry as a whole. The guys that did the first heart transplant were the best in the business, but the patient still only survived a short time; it takes time, practice and experience - both individual and collective - for a procedure to mature into a routine, everyday therapy, so your doc may well be exceptional, but they are all still working out the kinks in a new procedure. Where to go from here? A bypass was suggested, and this is very common, as most bariatric surgeons were raised on them, so to speak, know them well and tend to be very comfortable with them when things get complicated as they can with some revisions. You note that a SADI has been suggested - was this by the same surgeon, or someone else? If the SADI is a possible, then a regular sleeve gastrectomy should also be workable, as the SADI normally uses the sleeve as its basis, and presumably that would be most attractive to you as that is what is most similar to your originally chosen endo sleeve. Whether you need the malabsorptive component of the bypass or SADI is an individual decision. When things get complicated like this, it is usually best if one can get a second (or even third) opinion on the problem and possible solutions. There are often several different alternatives available, but individual doctors will prefer, or have more experience, with one over another, while another doc may have different experiences and preferences as to how to approach this problem. Good luck in working this out...

    Any June Sleevers?

Me too. Banded 2005. Removed 2011. Sched for VSG 6/27. Hope all of us revisions do great this time around!
  11. Thank you! The time will go by super fast, before you know it you’ll be at 3 months. I feel like I’m a rather slow loser which is usually the case as a revision vs a first time wls patient. But as long as it’s still coming off it then it’s all good. Good luck to you, I’m sure you’ll hit 180-190 in no time [emoji4]
  12. Crybaby... I feel for you. We are in the same boat. I just can't lose with the sleeve. I lost 42 pounds in 8 months with my revision to sleeve. During the past 12 months I have wavered bw 175-185....which is the longest I have stayed that low in my adult life. I feel ok but I just do not understand why I cannot lose more. I live in fear bc my scale bounces up and down... each time creeping a pound or two higher then back down. So scared I will be 230-260 again. I am trying to go back to Protein and Water goals which even though I can't eat large volumes I have not been meeting those goals lately. Stress is a BIG factor! Don't give up.... we did all of this for a reason. Keep in touch! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Revision approved!

I just met with the surgeon today to discuss the reflux. I was sleeved in 2015 and did great initially. 5 months out and the reflux and pain started. Gall bladder removed, no help. Was unable to keep with the bariatric diet due to reflux, nausea, and vomiting. Have gained back most of the weight lost. It seems simple carbs, and never letting my stomach get empty is the way I have been surviving. Surgeon is pretty certain that revision will solve my problems. And he said this is a medical necessity and will happen sooner rather than later. They will be calling tomorrow to schedule. I'm anxious but excited. My life and health have revolved around this for so long. Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Hi my surgery is scheduled for October 4 g-d willing. I am doing it after my holidays just easier to find a place for my 2.5 year old. I had the Lapband almost 6 years ago and lost weight but gained it back and can't seem to loose it. The dr feels I'm a great candidate to the revision and see hopefully no problem with it being the same day. Q to anyone who did it in nyu how much of the shakes am I supposed to drink for the liquid diet???

    Manitoba anyone?

I took two years to research my options and I finally decided to have the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in Mexico because when I researched the band in Winnipeg at the Maples, a couple of things hindered me. One was that if I had the band done in Mexico, there was no one local to do my fills because the Maples absolutely refused to do them even though the device is the same one Maples uses. As well 18,000 vs 4500.....that is a ridiculous difference if you ask me. I went to Mexico in Feb. and had my sleeve and had such a great experience that I work now as a coordinator for them helping others get affordable weight loss surgery. Anyways, when I got back, CBC did an interview on TV and the stupid broad introducing the piece totally twisted what I said and lied outright. She made it sound like I was fighting to have the government pay for my surgery...BOGUS! Of course they won't recant even though the reporter that actually did the interview apologized it caused a rukus nonetheless. I am officially done with the media. I think that Maples shouldn't be so closed about doing fills if you have the surgery done elsewhere. What the heck do you do if you move somewhere and "have" to find someone to do fills. The other thing I was concerned with is band slippage and erosion and possible revision surgery later on...don't want the hassle so opted for the sleeve...one time....over and done with. Good luck with your decision.

    May 24 Surgery Day

I can relate to everyones feelings, I'm having a revision from LB to GB on May 24th as well. I'm 54; 5'5'' ; 235lbs. I'm very excited & blessed to be getting a second opportunity - to embark on a healthy lifestyle again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Oh no! It's too late! Don't worry about it. The best person to answer that question is you, and probably not until after you've had it for a while. If the band works for you, then it was the best procedure. If it doesn't work, and for the right reasons (i.e. you are doing everything you are supposed to) it can always be revised to a sleeve. But if it were me, I would not start out worrying I went the wrong route. Give it time.

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

ROFL. I guess I will be a self-pay, too. I guess it's not "enough" loose skin for insurance to pay (ok, I won't exclude being lucky so lets wait and see, I'm financially prepared already for the worst case though). I'm looking into the Avelar technique and would have to go to Austria then but I essentially cancelled all the thoughts about plastics (well, almost all thoughts...) when surgeons recommended a revision and told me to expect another 10% weight loss. 6.something kg doesn't sound that much but at a height of 167 cm it means more than two BMI points. However, I can have a mommy makeover myself then when the time comes around. Surgeons in Germany usually don't do breasts and tummy in one sitting when insurance covers the procedures because of how hospital stays are paid. (Germany's health care system is sick in its own special way.) ETA: Yes, gotta see the bright site of being a self-pay. One can get what's medically safe and not what some insurance company thinks they're going to pay for.
  20. I have a date of June 17 for a Lap Band Revision to a Sleeve with Dr Alvarez at EndoBariatics. 3 weeks from today!
  21. Hi all! Awww Brenners I am sorry you ran into a problem. If you do a search on Port Revision, you will find several members with similar issues. And as I recall, it was a pretty quick fix, and they have went on successfully as I am sure you will. Lunasa---PLEASE don't apologize! You nailed it girl!! I really try not to say more, moan and complain about her or the constant comparison thing my MIL does. I am afraid it will come across as sour grapes....and it really truly is not. I am thrilled with my weight loss, I have and continue to do it in a healthy manner. If I were to lose my band, I have learned something from it, and from my friends here, in regards to my eating habits. I did not learn how to stick my finger down my throat. And yes Terry---she seems to be doing it on purpose. The 2 times I have PB'd, it was not an option to throw up----it was happening! I have seen (how gross huh?) her stick her finger down her throat. We were driving home from CO, and she decided her milkshake was not going down---so she pulled over to throw it up---I could see her in my side mirror---and it was finger down the throat. If it was not going down, there would have been no need to gag herself. I fully believe her DD is right, it is a combination of attention and a deterrent from anyone else having the surgery and being successful. Her sister (my other SIL) in Denver thought about it, and decided after seeing how she does she does not want that! So if that is her goal, she is succeeding! Once again---you guys were right, everything, whether it be her brothers current health issues, or last month her sister had knee replacement---whatever, it comes back to being about her! The other 3 siblings joke that she was raised by different parents! She is always talking about her horrible childhood, and the other 3 thought theirs was great! I do sound mean and petty---and I hate that. There are times this SIL will do anything for you---she can be caring and loving. Then others not so at all! She is unhappily married for as I say over 30 years---there is no physical comfort in her marriage at all. They smart off, and put down, and joke and roughhouse---but there is no hugging, no hello or goodbye kisses---nothing "soft". Not just between her and her DH, but not with any of her 3 DD's either. None of the DD's has had success with relationships---they have the same hard shell. She expresses her dislike of me "waiting on" my DH. I will get him a soda to drink, or bring him a napkin, little things---that he also does for me. She was raised seeing this---my MIL does it for my FIL. So who knows. I do know I am so thankful you read between the lines, and read what I said in the way that I meant it! Tracy----it does not surprise me a bit, what you have done for that woman. You are the very rare---truly nice person!!!! Big ((((HUGS)))) to you for being such a sweetie! I too love the vanity aspect of my weight loss. I no longer feel embarrassed for DH to introduce me...embarrassment for him more than me. I look pretty "normal" walking down the street or shopping for clothes now, and that feels good. But I had some serious health issues as well. I was on 2 meds for high blood pressure, I was on Metformin for blood sugar, and my cholesterol was high. I come from a family with strong heart problems. I was actually afraid I was going to die from one of these things, and that noone would be able to lift my casket. I told DH I wanted to be cremated, when I really don't----just so I could save my family and friends the embarrassment of it taking a dozen big men to carry me from the church! I also have grandbabies now, and I couldn't get in the floor and play with her (the now 2 yr old). I thought ahead to their soccer games, or music programs at school, and did not want them to be embarrassed by me being there. Now my 1 & 2 year old grandkids, will likely never remember me being seriously obese. I play chase with them, even have been on a trampoline with my newest granddaughter to be, who is 6. I can go to the park, and fit in a swing----I climbed the slide with my grandson!!! This is a combination of vanity and health---but it has been a HUGE improvement in my life. One of the major differences in my SIL and I, is I tell everyone---she has kept hers secret from all but family. I would tell ANYONE who ask, hoping to inspire and help someone else find their way out of the hole of obesity. Now with that being said, I totally understand not telling especially when they hound you about how much weight you have lost each day at work for instance. I no longer work outside the home---so no one but my inlaws ask me that!!!! My suggestion to those being ask that, would be to tell them, "I don't know---I got so tired of being ask that, I put my scales away, and am only going to weigh once a week now---but I have clothes that used to be too tight that fit now, so I know it is working!".....I bet they would quit asking! Thanks again for understanding---no wonder I love coming to this thread!!!!! Kat

    Hampton Roads/Peninsula thread

Amanda. It probably depends on his surgery schedule. It was about 3 weeks for me from approval to surgery. Also, when reading all that stuff about those band revisions, keep in mind that many of them may have been several years ago. The realize band doesn't have the slippage issues, etc... that some of the others did. Plus, they do things differently now, they suture the stomach over it to keep it from slipping. Dr. T is great. You'll do fine. :-)

Hello! Get your maps out, Wortham, TX here. Revision and hernia repair on march 20th, healing well and ready to enjoy life once again.
  24. Good luck on your revision. I hope you are well versed in the Sleeved Life. It is an adjustment. Worthwhile but definitely an adjustment. If I can answer any questions or offer any support, plz let me know.
  25. I have known people to go through a lot just a few days after banding, and not dislodge the port. I would guess it is inflamation on the inside, like the muscle it is stitched into being outraged at the intrusion! BUT----as I state, that is just a guess. I would call and ask how much pain at the port site is considered normal, and what to do for it. You paid the Dr. to treat you, calling to ask him a question about your health and welfare following a major surgery is not too much to ask of him. Does taking something like liquid Tylenol help at all? I wouldn't take anything stronger until I talked to the Dr. you don't want to mask a pain he should know about. I had a friend and her husband fly to MX for banding surgery several months before I went. He got air sick coming home, and heaved for over 4 hours! Then as he exited the plane, he got dizzy, and slipped and fell down the last 4 steps! We live in a small area, we still at the local airport, exit out the stairs! He called his Dr. immediately, who told him to sip very slowly some gatorade, and water. He slept, and settled down, and recovered fine, although he had some impressive bruising! He did worry for awhile he had pulled his port loose, he said it hurt everytime he twisted or moved at the waist. His surgeon assured him it would be fine, and even in the worst case scenario, it would not hurt anything if it had, it could be revised as an outpatient, but it would not hurt the band itself. He is a big guy like 6'7" and he has lost in the neighborhood of 150 pounds now! He was very lucky at the heavier weight not to break anything when he fell! I would take it easy, try seeing if either hot (heating pad) or ice packs, would ease it any. Make as many observations as you can to share with your Dr. if you find it necessary to call. Keep us posted on how you feel! Good Luck! Kat
