  4. Hi all. I was on this site down 7 years ago before/after I had my VSG & here I am again for my revision to RNY. i have been very unsuccessful with my VSG: I really felt no restriction with Foods, my GERD increased x1000 and no dose of PPI’s helped. I never sought help because my surgeon went out of practice and I never saw anyone else because I was embarrassed. I am currently at 263, the weight I was at when I had my sleeve. After I had my sleeve I got down to 220 but I was so scared of eating anything really and was working out twice a day just to lose that 40 lbs. I am approved for my revision to RNY for beginning of May & I am nervous. Not nervous for the surgery (I have had multiple surgeries), but nervous for after the surgery. I plan on sticking to this lifestyle change to the fullest but I am afraid I won’t have restriction. I know my surgeon stated my tummy will be the size of a small plum but I a still scared about not feeling restriction. Everyone on the medical staff said I will and that I just need to eat slow and pay attention to what I put in my body. I guess this is just my anxiety getting the best of me, lol. but a bit more about me: I am 32 years of age, have PCOS (which I had multiple surgeries for) and i Do not have kids but my husband and I would like 1 in the future, so that’s another reason why I feel I need to lose this weight. Just want to thank everyone for being supportive and this time I intend on staying on this site for life! Because I do need it and fell off the wagon when I had the sleeve. Thanks again, Bryn
  5. I had mild GERD before I was sleeved in 2011, I experienced it again after I had my sleeve (for about 3 years) and it just got worse. No matter what I eat or drink, I have horrible GERD & burping. The PPI’s aren’t working for me and I have tried different doses. Long story short, I am now getting revised to RNY in 6 weeks. I was not informed 7 years ago about GERD being a problem with the sleeve but I am not even sure if it was well known back then either Good luck to whatever you choose!

    Question regarding Superannuation

Sorry Noo, I haven't been through the process, but I was looking the other day at the online centrelink form for early release of super and I couldn't see a field for adding savings or assets, nor does the documentation required specify copies of bank or investment statements. May it is something they follow up with? There is a company that helps with applying for early release of super, their fees seemed a bit exxy, but if they help achieve a good outcome it could be worth it. Feedback on facebook was a bit mixed but overall 4.2/5. Company name was My SuperCare. Perhaps Noo you may not be so out of pocket with a revision, as you may not be required to do all the aftercare for up to one or two years? Note that unless preservation age has been reached early release of super in most instances will be taxed at about 22%, so if $10,000 is released, tax will be $2,200 and funds received will be $7,800. So at the end of the day, we won't receive the full cost of the surgery, hospital and doctor fees etc. I am not sure if tax is paid directly by the super fund or if it is captured by the annual tax return process. I am considering early release of super for the surgery I am proposing (ESG, if deemed a suitable candidate) which is not covered by medicare (thus also not covered by private health insurance). For anyone in Australia considering early release of super for weight loss surgery, note that there is a government review underway at the moment, if early release of super for these circumstances continue I suspect that the criteria for early release will become a whole lot tougher than it is now. If all goes well with my consult etc I want to have the ESG in Sept or Oct, but what to go through the application for super release as soon as possible. If I am not successful, my chosen clinic is a member of MiFund and they have interest free plans (application fee and low cost montly fee only) so I will apply for that. To be honest this is possibly better than early release of super, as application fee and monthly fees would be less than the tax payable on release of super, with the added bonus that super remains intact. My fall back position if not sucessful for early release of super or MiFund is a surgery that is covered by medicare and private health insurance, but I really do want the minimally invasive ESG. Apologies for the waffle!
  7. Just a peice of advise from someone who had GERD and was on meds before the sleeve... DON'T DO IT! I mean it may resolve after surgery and it may not...there's no way to know for sure ..it's pretty much a crap shoot. Just know if you have the sleeve, there's a chance you will need to revise to bypass. And you could live in misery every day until the revision.

    Revision to bypass

Hi there i had my sleeve in January 2014 and was revised to Bypass in January 2018 because of gerd good news - my GERD has been resolved i have not had any issues with dumping but been very careful with food i was told that I should not eat anything with more than 10g per serving of added sugar. I have been very careful. But that would allow you your creamer? eating is a different experience i don’t yet know my tell for full and I can eat more at two months with this surgery than I could with sleeve obviously losing weight much more slowly than first time round hope thats helpful

    Revision to bypass

It is recommended that all bariatric patients maintain a lower carb diet post op. I know I have seen lots of ppl on here going from sleeve to bypass, maybe they were just first time posters, none returners. It is estimated that between 30-50 percent of gastric bypass patients develop dumping syndrome. Seems to be a common misconception that all people will get this. I was never sleeved but I’m over three months out from bypass. I can tolerate almost all foods except whole steaks, and dry pieces of dense proteins like chicken or pork chops. I’ve never had GERD but surgeon has me on omeprazole for a year post op. Maybe a sleeve to bypass revision post op will see this and post for you with more insight!
  10. Hey all.. new to this app. Love it and all the support I see! I am on the fence and looking to see if anyone has had a revision from sleeve to bypass? Since my sleeve I have developed the worst heartburn. I had it before but not to this extent. My doctor didn’t tell me that the sleeve will make your gerd worse. It’s to the point that I eat only what doesn’t hurt. In addition to that I can’t eat anything with flour. Horrible stomach ache. I’ve been allergy tested for gluten bcus I was SURE that’s what is was but turns out I’m not. So I know enough to stay away from carbs.. bread, rice and anything with flour. Thank goodness for gluten free crackers. They are my staple. Doctor says the revision make the heartburn and pain and will repair the hernia that developed from the first surgery. I guess I just don’t know anyone who has done the bypass and if they have any complications. I’ve heard dumping could be really bad. What are the big differences in foods with the sleeve vs bypass. I heard you can’t have anything with sugar.... I’m thinking of my coffee creamer ( which i allow myself) which is not sugar free.... fruits, honey, oatmeal .... would appreciate any feedback or insight.
  11. Hi Back with update. sitting in hospital bed in Tijuana right now. Had my surgery yesterday with Dr Kuri and he was successfully able to remove my band and revise to sleeve! Wooooo!! I wa sworried because of the pain,I had erosion, but it was prbabaly just some infection around the tubing. Aetna - Band revision

Approval/coverage is based on your specific plan benefits & medical necessity. First I'd recommend calling Aetna to ask if it is covered under YOUR plan. Second, read their policy on bariatric surgery to find out what is covered & what criteria needs to be met. If your plan covers a revision & your medical records show that you meet their criteria then you shouldn't have an issue getting approved.
  14. Anyone here been revised from a band and had Aetna insurance? Is it hard to get approved?

    Disappearing lapbanders

I haven’t been online much since my surgery and wanted to update everyone on my progress. I’m no long an MGB patient. My surgeon revised my procedure to a full RNY Gastric Bypass. After performing the MGB, my stomach had active bleeding due to severe erosive gastritis secondary to my Lap-Band. Having had long term exposure to a foreign body (my Lap-Band) for 15 years caused me to have Barrett’s esophagus and sever erosive gastritis. My surgeon had to redo my entire WLS procedure again to insure an optimal outcome. In my case the RNY was the indicated procedure. Thanks to everyone who has reached out over the last week! You concern and caring words meant the world to me.
  16. I wish I had a pic of before original surgery lapband where highest was 227 in 2009. I will find one . But for this part of my journey revision after band complications I was 188 and was starting to feel pain in my whole body. I know my pics are nowhere as dramatic as most. But I can tell my body hurts less. 25 to 30 pounds before I am no longer over weight according to charts . First two are before Rest after about month I am starting to feel my dorky self.
  17. I often wonder if I should consider removal. I had my band placed in Oct 2010. Last April I had an issue and had all the fluid removed. Apparently I had learned nothing about food consumption and that resulted in about a 50 lb weight gain. Almost a year later, I have some restriction but the weight is barely falling off. I am afraid that if I got a revision, I would just gain more weight again.

    MGB or RNY?

I had MGB in Canada in Sept/17. I was told that it was a less invasive surgery than RNY (one anastomosis vs 2) with fewer surgical complications, but similar outcomes to RNY. I had mine as a revision surgery 9 months after having my Lap-band removed. I lost steady in the first 3-4 months, but then slowed due to issues with hypoglycemia related to late dumping syndrome (blood sugar was spiking immediately after eating any carbs then dropping rapidly. Too much insulin production = poor weight loss.) Now that I'm getting this under control with medication, I'm losing again (only 14 pounds from goal). However, taking into account these complications, if I had to do it all over again, I think I would have gotten the sleeve.

    Considering cancelling surgery

You will regain. But in my honest opinion, if you aren't 100% on board mentally? I wouldn't do it. Cuz in the end, I think it's the people who are do-or-die that keep it off without regain. And this is a golden shot. The surgery is the best it will ever be (effective) the first time around. Any revisions are much harder to lose weight with -- or so I hear.

    BCBS TX Approval

I know that I have posted this topic before, but the waiting is killing me! I am having a revision surgery, lapband to bypass. My paperwork was submitted to the insurance company on 03/14/2018. I have called every day since then asking about the status of the pre determination. I've been told that it takes up to 30 days. Has anyone had it approved in less than 30 days?

    Lapband Removal Recovery

I had a lap band to sleeve revision 5 weeks ago today. It was way easier than my lap band surgery recovery. I knew what to expect. So I walked and walked and walked and had no gas pain. Also came off meds as soon as I could. No Morphine pump, just the toradol I requested. which is normal administered every 6 hours anyway. I gave my self two weeks to be up and running, and I can say, the third week out I was still really tired. But functioning. Best of luck. Dawn Marie

Lapband removal and RNY in May

I got a lapband in 2009. I had my lapband removed April 2017 due to issues with it. I was required to lose weight during my 6 months of meeting with my NUT. It was a struggle but I lost 25 lbs before I had surgery in Dec 2017. I really pushed to lose the weight, because they said it is always harder with a revision surgery. I just wanted to give myself the best possible outcome. I'm currently 3 months out and I am doing well. I'm so glad I've been blessed with another chance to lose the weight and then keep it off. I just take it one day at a time and try to enjoy the process. I have my emotional times, but I pray a lot and I have an awesome family who is supportive of me. Do not worry about the weight you have gained so far. Just focus on what you can do before it is time for surgery. If you focus on the positive, you will get positive results. If you beat yourself up, then you will not be as successful as you could be. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app
