    Motivation to Reach Goal

Hi @@JamieLogical, I agree with @@erp and several others about taking advantage of the first year (honeymoon or not) to get to your goal. Everyone's goal is their own, with or without advice from their doc/nut, and there's no "right answer". My doc's philosophy is that we're doing this for our health, and everything else is just gravy, so if your health is good and you feel good, that's one thing. But... You also have this tremendous opportunity to push beyond the "I'm tired of this, so where I am is good enough" point. If you settle for "good enough", you may always wonder what your true goal might have brought you. (Kind of like spouses, right?) So I'm really glad to hear that you want to push on!!! Pick a number, re-focus on it, and drive towards it. Once you get there, see how you feel. If you want 5 more, go for it. If you're happy. That's great too. But don't stop short because it's "good enough". I aimed for the top of my "normal" BMI. Once I got there, I realized that I never wanted to get back to "overweight" again, so I lost 5 more. Then I was at 150 and decided that I wanted to stay below that, so I pushed to where I could touch 145. (It was also exactly 120 pounds down, which sounds way better than 115!) So now now I'm there and guess what? I don't have the desire to lose any more. I'm thrilled with where I am and just want to stay between 145 and 150, which leaves me with a 5-10 pound buffer for the "normal" range. And people who told me to stop because I was starting to look too thin 20 pounds ago, now tell me how healthy I look at this weight! You're always so full of wonderful advice, so I hope you'll take this from the heartfelt place from where it is offered. Good luck, I wish you nothing but the best – wherever you decide to go!!!

  3. I have days where I am hungry, but I am usually able to work throught them. I only had one fill so far, 3cc's in a 10 cc band, my next fill is scheduled for 9/14/09. Right now my meals are 1/2 cup portions with two 2 oz Snacks a day if I need them, and I average between 715 and 800 calories a day. I average about 65 gr of Protein a day. I found that a warm cup of broth or herbal tea seems to help the hunger, and I try to distract myself. Hang in there!!

    NSV

That is awesome Shelley. Keep up the good work. With numbers improving like they are not only do you look 10 years younger, but you probably added to years to your life. I love NSV's like this. I am also 3 months out and was thinking this morning how funny it is that I no longer even unbutton/unzip my pants. They are big enough that I just slip them on and put on a belt to keep them up. These are pants that came out of storage because they were too small to wear for the past several years.

How often do you get your food stuck?

The band is very random. Yesterday I ate 1 bite of food because the one time I tried to eat, I ended up sliming over it. Of course, I also drank 1 drink of Protein shake because later in the day when I tried to drink one, I slimed over it too. Today I had some lobster bisque, white chicken meat with buffalo sauce, and chicken salad pan fried (faux melt) with a bit of cheddar on top, and pepperoni chips with cottage cheese. Oh, and 8 out of 10 days I have first bite syndrome until 6 or 7 at night, and then I'm wide open.

    Sleeve to bypass

I had sleeve to bypass 10/21. Best decision ever!
  8. Hi I'm Glenda, I lost 108 lbs on my own, then decided to have gastric bypass to get to my goal weight. I'm so glad to join this group. I'm 3 weeks post surgery down 29lbs. I have problems getting my water and food in. I get so full so quickly. I'm afraid I'm not getting the proper nutrition. My fear is my upcoming vacation I'm going to Costa Rica. I'll be 10 weeks post surgery then. Very apprehensive about how I'll manage my food. Help please.
  9. I ran across this video which has a pair of pants with Velcro in the waistband that can get you through a few sizes: https://youtu.be/oTxDpaYeuEw Starting at minute 7:19. I was wondering if any of you sew and can share pattern numbers that have worked best for you as you have lost weight?
  10. I had the lap band on March 15th 2017. I started off weighting 205. Today i weight 185 a total weight loss of 20 pounds in 4 months. Is this normal shouldn't it be more? I have a 10 cc band and currently have 6.5 cc in it. I been working out 4 to 5 times a week and feel like I'm not losing anything for all the hard work I'm doing... Also i have PCOS and i thought this would help it but no luck yet... I'm thinking i should have got the sleeve... Any thoughts or words of encouragement. Or how's the weight loss for everyone else going at 4 months in?? Please help... Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Eating Too Fast

What would it happen if I start eating solid's just like grilled fish (3 oz) or roasted chicken (3 oz) just 10 days after the cirgury???
  12. I had my second fill a couple of weeks back, and went up to 4.5 cc. At 5 cc I couldn't swallow Water, so .5 was taken out, and everything was/is fine. A couple of times this past weekend and today I ate the "wrong" foods too fast, and PBd (not a pleasant experience!). Yesterday it was on a hard pretzel (the snack-size kind), but today it was a doozy -- a steamed veggie spring roll. I slimed and spit up for a good 10 minutes. So my question is: How does PBing correspond with restriction? If you have a PB episode, does it mean you are at your correct level of restriction, or does it have nothing to do with it? I personally feel that I am NOT at an ideal level of restriction, so my guess is that the two aren't necessarily related, although I could be wrong.

    What size are you now?

    What size are you now?

I started in a 20/22 and I am in a 14 right now, but they are getting loose. I would be happy in a 12 or 10. Actually I am very happy in a 14. Never thought I would see that size again. My short size is a medium or large. I am fitting into my hubby's shirts which was something I never would have thought was possible. My goal is to be able to buy cute bra and panties sets. I bought really cute panties last night, but my boobs are still too big for the matching bra.

    Those banded around 10/22

i was banned on 10/24 and have weighted the same now for a week but i get my first fill tomorrow and hopefully will start losing again! Good Luck!
  17. Rob, you are not alone. I was banded on 10/22 also. I have not lost a pound since, OMG, I don't know when. For a minute I really thought my scale was broken. Like the numbers were stuck or something. As I read some of the post op forum comments and blogs, it's normal. Once you get a good fiil, you'll start loosing again. Just hang in there. I go for my 1st fill on Friday. Now, since I am able to eat with no problems, I AM EATING....LOL

    Vets/Nuts Please Help

Not sure if my diet would be considered typical, but here goes (from a non vet): Breakfast: matrix Protein shake with chia seeds and Water Pre exercise snack: 2 energy squares Post exercise snack: Amplified Wheybolic 60 shake with water Lunch: 3-4 ounces of chicken patty, 1-2 ounces of green veggie or red pepper Snack: nu go slim Protein Bar Dinner: 3-4 ounces of protein (chicken or beef), 1-2 ounces of green veggie Snack: matrix shake with water I try and eat Paleo as much as possible with supplementation to achieve higher daily protein amounts. If I exercise in the afternoon, I switch my morning Snacks with afternoon snack. Morning exercise is running and afternoon exercise is cross fit on alternating days. I try and run between 5 k and 10 k as fast as I can, ramping up the incline for more intensity and for burning of more calories (800-1000). I do not know the calories I burn in cross fit, but it is difficult, intense and about an hour long. On weekend, I usually eat out for one lunch and dinner, but still pay close attention to diet to support fitness. I found it helpful to eat as low carb as possible up to month 5 and eat high protein. I could not eat raw veggies so well so did green drinks. This kept insulin levels normalized and prevented much hunger. As my exercise ramped up at month 5, I began to eat more good carbs. I have found it a little difficult to control hunger if I eat too many grams of sugar in the protein bar. I am currently switching from a protein bar with 2 grams refined sugar to a Paleo protein bar with raw honey and more carbs. So far so good, but time will tell how this changes my hunger. I hope it reduces as I will not be eating those 2 grams of refined sugar any longer. I tracked like a fiend for first 3 months and then stopped. I keep it simple, repetitive so no need to track once it became second nature to live the daily life of post op without much random food planning. I really do not like tracking if it requires more than 10-15 minutes in the morning so made a decision to eat in a way that does not require tracking. Eating the same thing every day is not as bad as it seems. I do not need a lot of variety of I finds food that fits the form and taste I require. Hope this helps!

    Week 36....Stall & Body Image

(Jan 23, 10) It never fails....only women have to deal with the ups and downs or crazy hormones! I never lose during this week and matter of fact that last few cycles I have gained five to seven pounds of water weight. It's so frustrating. I know, it doesn't stay but to be so darned close and see the scale not move or go the other way makes me want to scream. Now I understand the commercials for Midol! Who knew? When I was 280 I did not feel it at all. This week I managed to bang my knee in a weird spot which would not allow me to exercise at all. I tried the treadmill and my knee completely gave out! Oh, no....can't have that so I had to let it heal. Oh the horror! But somehow I am still calm about it all. I just know I can drop the last few pounds before my 40th birthday (Feb 23) I have been trying to reflect on my journey as much as possible and there are some things I have got to get better at. I still think I eat too fast sometimes, and also sometimes too late in the day. I tend to sleep better if I don't eat after 7pm, but sometimes that's so hard with my profession. (Realtor) And I KNOW for a fact I don't get all my water in. Got to do better with that. I also need to expand my menu's a bit. It's so easy to just fall back on easy things like soups. So I am going to really try and focus on those things. I wish I could make myself go to bed earlier but I am such a natural night owl! In the next few weeks I will be having new professional photos done for my business cards and for my singing ad's. It's so fun to think about all the cool clothes I can get for these photos. There were two ladies in the office talking about a huge sale at "express" and for the first time I allowed myself to think I just might go check that sale out! I may be able to fit some of that stuff! (wheee) I still have this image of me that is larger and shopping is fun but I tend to still pick up the larger sizes. It's so funny....when the sales people bring me the smaller size. My mind and my mouth immediately say....oh no...that's too small! However when I try it on it magically fits! Euphoria! I went into Lane Bryant last week out of habit and the sales lady who knows me said...Oh no honey, you can't wear stuff here anymore! HA! I use to think I would be a size 12 but I am starting to see that I may be able to wear some size 10's. ME....A size 10! I guess not really much to report this week but not all weeks can be full of stimulating activity! The fact of it all is, I am still adjusting and everyday is a new adventure no matter how major or how small! I am riding high! And as always....I am Blessed! See my progress photos: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/members/57955-albums3475.html Start Weight: 280lbs Surgery Date: May 21, 2009 Dr. M. Metz St. Lukes Hospital-Denver, CO
