  1. I am so excited...my BMI is finally below 40! Have lost 25.6 lbs since starting the pre-surg diet and BMI is 39.8. This is hard to believe. Seeing this happen makes it so much easier to deal with the challenges of weight loss!:laugh0::001_tt2::thumbup::biggrin0::biggrin0::biggrin2:

What level did you find your green zone?

It has been a really slow process for me. I have had a fill each month since January. I thought maybe my band had a hole in it but my Dr said no since he pulls the liquid out each month before adding more. I'm so glad I asked cause I was sure it had a hole in it. Lol. Well my last fill was at 9 in a 10 bad and I finally feel like I have a band. So I know what ur going through although you have done really well. I've been hanging on trying not to lose the initial weight I lost. This is certainly a journey and I look forward to learning how to figure it all out so I can lose some weight. It's been hard not getting down on myself and worried about people judging me knowing I had surgery and not seeing any weight loss.

    Calories at One Year

Congratulations on your amazing progress! You should be SO proud of yourself! I am in a similar quandary, and am meeting with a new nutritionist next week to get some guidance. I work out hard (triathlon and strength training) a minimum of 6 days per week, and twice per day on most days. I take in about 1000-1300 calories per day, and my target split is 30% Protein, 35% fat, 35% carbs. I had surgery 14 months ago and I'm just 1.8 pounds away from my goal, but feel like I'm overdue for switching from bariatric-weight-loss mode of eating into athlete-fueling mode. I tried to talk this through with the nutritionist on my bariatric team and she didn't have a clue how to advise me. Thus, I'm meeting with a sports nutritionist next Thursday. I'll let you know what I learn!

    after vacation...

Well, back from vacation. Had a good time, but it's always nice to come back home. A little dissapointed that I haven't lost any weight since surgery, I EAT SO LITTLE! I know I should walk more, I just don't have the energy. Still getting killer hunger pains in the middle of the night, still have big backaches that I think are brought on by being too full. "real food" seems to bring on the backaches. I wanted this band so bad, but it's so hard changing myself to fit into my band! I'm still the fat chick.:rolleyes2:

    101 pounds gone FOREVER!

I had surgery on 3/25/13 but lost 30-25 pounds in the month before that. I've lost a total of 101 pounds as of this morning. I had my gall bladder taken out on Monday but other than that, I've had no problems/complications. I have really got to get some pictures linked in here to show some progress. My weight loss has really slowed down over the past month but seems like it has picked up since my gall bladder came out. Hopefully it will continue on down. I'd love to be below 200 by Christmas. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it goes!
  7. Amy, I Say the same thing to myself "will this be yet another failure?", I feel as if this is my last chance, the last opportunity and if I fail at it, then there is NOTHING that will help me. However, I try to tell to myself that this IS going to work and I CAN make it happen. If we follow the rules (probably the hardest thing EVER), but if we do, we will succeed! We have done it MANY times before, we have followed many diets and we have lost weight before, the LB will help us where we failed before! I wish you well and hope to hear about your successes!!! How 'bout them Stillers!

    Ugh, I'm getting scared!

You know I was thinking about being scared and i was reading in the complications thread about a gal who had to get her gallbladder out and she was so glad so now she wouldnt be sick anymore and she would start feeling better!! I think the difference is the type of surgeries...elective vs. HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!!! But if we think about the lap band as HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW because we need to feel better now...then maybe it wouldnt be so hard to swallow the fact that you are having surgery. I mean, if you didnt have the Lap band surgery and then 2 years from now you have to have open heart surgery because you have a heart attack because of the obesity and comorbidities, you would be glad that the doctor was going to fix your heart so you could live longer....I dont know, I am just ranting...I was scared too and I dont think there is anything anyone can say to make it better or the nervousness go away. But, I do know, that my doctor told me three years ago that if I didnt do something about my weight I would not be around in 10 years...So three years later...I was 7 years away from the ten year time frame...and I got scared...more scared than thinking about the surgery... You will get through it and then wonder why you were so nervous...thats how it always works.....but in the mean time....CONGRATULATIONS!! You are gonna be healthy:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Deanna

    STALLS!!! [emoji35]

So I'm 4 weeks post op & I have been eating soft foods just fine for about a week. However, I think I may have hit a stall? My weight has been fluctuating between 5lbs since about the start of week 3. It'll go up 5lbs, then back down. But for the last few days, it's been fluctuating just a few ounces. Can someone tell me if I've hit a stall? I'm not sure if a stall means your weight just stays the same, or if you're not losing anymore past a certain point. I'm quite frustrated but I'm trying not to be because #1 I've just started eating soft foods. #2, it's still early & #3 I should just stay off the scale. Though, inches wise, I'm not losing either. It's just frustrating because I'm working out, eating a sufficient amount of calories, and the only thing I can think of is Protein. Maybe I'm not getting in enough (I don't get in the recommended 60 daily ) I guess my ultimate question is: Is this normal to stall this early on?! When did you stall?! How did you break it? 10. Michael, I am new to this forum and new to the sleeve. My surgery date was 4/11/16. I was scared to make the step toward the sleeve. As you I was always involved in many sports. It just got to the point where I was active and my weigh never moved. I am 38 and my highest weight was 340. That was my active football lineman weight. Lol. I started my two week pre-op diet and lost at least 25 pounds in those two weeks. Mostly by cutting carbs but especially the calories. I even thought about backing out on surgery since my weight was finally going down. But I decided to see through my journey and had surgery. I am one week post op and am down to 288. So far I have no regrets and am here to answer any other questions you may have. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Zumba, Good Idea Or No?

Starting on Monday and will be 4 weeks post op. Do you think it will be too strenous or I should be ok? Also hoping this will kick start my weight loss so I can lose more.
  12. Hey guys! I'm brand new to the forum, I am 30 years old and weigh about 310 lbs. I was at 400 at my heaviest. I've been struggling to lose weight for the last 4 years, I teach a low impact fitness group three times a week, and still it's a huge struggle to even lose percentages of a pound. The thing that pushed me into that first weight loss was a miscarriage, my husband and I desperately want to start a family. Last summer I finally put in a referral for sleeve surgery after doing some research and having an aunt go through the surgery. Now I am just starting the process, confirmed my interest and will be starting the educational portion. I was wondering if anyone can share their stories of the process now, and the best ways to start preparing even though I likely have 6 months to a year wait. We live in a very isolated small town, one very tiny grocery store so we don't have much access to the best foods or fresh produce, but I'm determined. Looking forward to the journey, and to hearing from other people going through the same thing. I am terrified honestly, but also crazy excited, Kayla

    too tight.. heartburn..

Excited to get back into the swing of things.. I hope I can get rid of this weight for good! I feel like my band is really tight right now, I got an adjustment 2 days ago. Im at 7ML right now. I can swollow my own spit at least. I can sometime drink water just fine but other times its hard. I do not have a desire to eat and I feel this pressure in my chest, I think mostly because im having imense heartburn. Tums do not work. I feel like water just makes my heartburn worse. I have not been able to eat anything, but ive been VERY hungry. I really dont want to unfill and I think that it may just be swelling that will hopefully go down. Ill give it the weekend and see how im doing. Anyone else have heartburn problems? If anyone reads this that is.. http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wBecnHo/"> >
  14. Hi - I'm 12 weeks post-op and have had no issues and am losing weight slow and steady. I couldn't be more pleased. Anyway, just a couple of days ago, I started experiencing an occasional sharp pain on my left side right around my waist level. It comes and goes. Last night it woke me up and this morning I had an episode while driving to work. Like I said, it is intermittent and doesn't last long but since I've never felt this kind of pain before, it has started to worry me. Anyone have anything like that?
  15. scoutsmom

    Discouraged

I had my surgery on October 25th and I have lost 14 pounds. I feel your pain and I am also very frustrated. I have been walking a lot and people have commented that I have lost weight. I expected to lose much more by now but there isn't much I can do about it. We have gotten through the most difficult part (well, I still have 5 days until I can eat but you're there!) so we need to follow through and know that this WILL work if we follow the plan. Hang in there

    Protein shakes

Whey protein isolate IS what body builders use, if they know what they're doing. Lifting weights tears apart muscle fibers and protein is needed to repair them. For WLS patients it's important to have protein for good health and to prevent muscle loss. Some body builders want to gain weight while increasing muscle size, and some want to lose fat while increasing muscle size. The protein used by the second type is also good for WLS patients, though I don't think they taste as good as those that were developed just for us. I don't like the flavor of my husband's protein. Most inexpensive proteins are loaded w/sugars, fillers, and cheaper proteins that aren't absorbed as easily as isolate. Not good for ANYONE except the pockets of the people who make them. These are never used by educated body builders (like my husband). :-)

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels

I've missed my bandster family! Hi everyone, I think I've finally hit my sweet spot! Got another fill 8-18-09 .4 ccs, think this is it. I haven't had much of an appetite, but I was still craving sweets and having a few cookies here and there. Well no more, after this feel, not only has any trace of an appetite disappeared, but I finally have a fill that doesn't allow me to eat cookies! YES! Finally! I bought some cookies yesterday and after eating 2, my chest got so tight, and well you know the rest, up came the cookies. I have learned my lesson. No more cookies for me! Today, I actually felt hungry 1 time, around 1 pm. I am full off of a few sips of anything other than water. Today I had water for breakfast, felt hungry and made some sf hot chocolate (just because I was cold and planned on eating some cioppino afterwards), but the cocoa filled me up again. The hunger went away. Here it is 7 pm and I haven't had 1 bite of food (and by the way the cookies are still sitting on the table, I haven't even been tempted). I know I have to eat something so I'm making some "rice" and eggs (made with tvp) and green onions. Hopefully this will do it for me and I can finally lose these last 70 pounds (although now I'm not so sure that I want to lose 70 pounds, at my current weight I can wear a size 12/14 and I'm 5'7, I'm afraid of what I might look like at 175 pounds). I'll just take it 1 pound at a time. I will definetly keep you posted. Until next time. * Hope this helps someone along their journey:thumbup:

  22. I'm pretty new to this board, I posted only once before, and now I forgot how to do it, hopefully I'm posting in the right board, I just couldn't figure out how to start a thread to ask this question: I'm eating now between 1200-1350 for the past two weeks, before I was doiong 1500-1600 and I was in a long plateau, I broke it after my last fill, but I'm concerned that I may still be eating too many calories? Can you tell you how many are you eating? any advises please? I weight 249 now, I walk 30-45 min per day. Thank you for your help. Elena:help:
  23. I found a lot of ppl that had this problem when I was weight lifting. They would eat very strict paleo diets and to get the healthy fats in they would cook a lot with coconut or avocado oil. Some ppl I would talk to would just eat a tbsp of coconut oil. I tried it once and had to mix some PB2 powder I it for flavor. I found a recipe that puts pesto on salmon. That has good olive oil in it. If you google how to eat healthy fats I think you would find a lot, especially if you focus on the weight lifting community eating. 24. Also staying fully hydrated helps you pass things through your pouch and makes it "less sticky-ish." That was from Dr. Alvarez the bariatric surgeon. If you are at all dehydrated, it may take a couple of days to really replenish your fluid levels. To me, it makes all the diff in how I handle food and post prandial nausea. Also, if you're having issues with protein, use meat lube (low fat, low cal, low carb gravies, soupy stewpy things like your chili and for god's sake, don't overcook eggs! LOL.) Also soft cooked white flaky mild fish is usually pretty easy for most people, as can be soft scrambled eggs with yogurt or lite sour cream mixed in to make them creamy. Beans and cheese, or canned beans mashed with some yogurt or cheese go down easy. If it were me, I'd stay away from the obvious slider culprits. You're losing well now, but that habit is hard to shake and your weight loss WILL level off and you could potentially stall out. Sorry you are struggling.
