  1. The Protein mix I tolerate best is Six Star whey protein. In chocolate and vanilla. If they're out of this, my alternate is EAS powder, or the EAS carb advantedge pre-mades in strawberry or French Vanilla (both of which have to be -COLD- or they suck). I'm rarely a purist with my Protein drinks. I will not mix them with Water, I tried gagging through that and it just didn't work for me. I will either mix them with Skim Plus milk or Silk, or sometimes the Skim Plus cut with Light OJ, about 2:1. For chocolate powder I will usually blend in either a scant spoonful of Peanut Butter, or the same of Nutells, or some sugar free Kahlua flavored coffee syrup and ice, or some sugar free Hazlelnut coffee syrup & warm the milk. For vanilla I will put in about 1/5 packet of Butterfinger flavored cocoa mix, or some low sugar/low carb regular cocoa mix, or some sugar free cider mix, or fruit (not too often, I don't like the texture of the tiny seeds). If I do the milk/OJ combo, I will just add ice and sugar (formerly Splenda, but I'm not really buying into the artificial sweetners too much anymore). Outside of protein pwders, for my liquid phase (very short compared to yours), inclusing thick liquids, I would rely on Cream of X Soups (mostly chicken), or golden mushroom, or the brothy variety of southwest chicken with all chunks strained out. Split pea Soup was nice, as was lentil soup. Clam chowder that had been whizzed up to blend in the chunks. Plain old low sodium chicken broth. Drinkable yogurts. Etc.

    Pumpkin Pie

The sugar might be to much and make you sick. I like buying pumpkin purée and mixing it with pumpkin pie spice nutmeg and stevia into my plain Greek yogurt yummy and lots of protein

    Hungry

Well, it’s not about being “bad” or “cheating” on your diet. The dietary guidelines at this point are to make sure your stomach heals and prevent you from getting sick. There’s nothing magical about the one week or two week or six week point that change your stomach into the next phase. These times are based on how long most people take to heal to the point that they can handle different types of food. I personally hate vomiting, so I don’t want to do anything to take a chance of making myself sick. I started puréed foods today and my first food was 1 ounce of triple zero yogurt, eaten slowly with a baby spoon. If you eat foods before you can handle them, you’re taking the chance that your stomach might react badly and that will be the punishment. There’s no need to feel guilty on top of that. if you’re going to eat something you’re not supposed to, though, jerky is probably not the best choice since it is dry and tough. If you’ve really got to have meat, go with something soft like canned or slow-cooked chicken.

    No meat...? Oh the struggle...

Beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, spinach, broccoli, eggs, seaweed, quinoa, nuts, nut butters, almond milk, soy products, tempeh, tofu, hemp, poppy seeds, seitan, milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, Peanut Butter ... Do I need to go on?
  6. My doc said to consider the "mushies" as anything you can smash with a fork, but she wants me to stay away from carbs like mashed potatoes. I've been having cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs (which I normally don't like) but I cook a little mexican chorizo and add to my eggs - yummy!, tuna/chicken, and salmon. I made some yummy salmon in the oven and it was easy. I don't normally like it much but used some lemon and light butter spray...it was pretty good. I found some at walmart in the fish section, there have bags of 4 frozen salmon fillets for only about 5 dollars, which isn't too bad. My mushie stage is only a week, so I don't have to do it too long. I really like to use Mio in Water. It's drops you squeeze into your water for flavor - like Crystal Light - but liquid. My fav is the berry pomegranate but they have lots of flavors. I'm not a huge water drinker either, and it really helps me to get my water in.

    Hate To Eat Now

I had a terrible time progressing my stages. I was on liquids/mushies for almost 3 months- at 3 mos I was living off of yogurt, string cheese and protein drinks. It does get better- stll not able to eat alot of meat but I am content right now rather than frustraded back then. Every body takes it's own time to heal and adjust- some of us just take longer...
  8. And also, in my liquid phase, I am allowed cream soups, yogurt & pudding as long as they're strained before eating.

    Struggling truck driver post op

I would definitely suggest the pouches of tuna and salmon. They have some great flavors, no refrigeration required and no can opener needed! Most of the ones I've tried have about 13-15 grams of Protein per 2.6 oz pouch. Keep some bottled Water with you and maybe the Syntrax nectar Protein powder - fruity flavors that go well dissolved in water? And the cooler sounds like a great idea for keeping some cottage cheese and greek yogurt, maybe some laughing cow cheese wedges etc.

    Struggling truck driver post op

Can't stop off at a WalMart that has a grocery? They are usually near freeways, HUGE parking lots where you can park a semi or large truck for a few minutes - just park it a bit away and get some walking in to boot. Check out the deli counter and surrounding area where you could get meats, chicken salad, or Soups. There is also lots of small containers of yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese sticks... Any IHOP, Cracker Barrel, or Denny's restaurant can do up some scrambled eggs with cheese (and later sausage/bacon). I ate that for Breakfast and lunch. And most of those places serve soups too. And definitely pack a cooler or fridge installed if you'd like to save money or time. Love the idea of getting a small one that runs off of the truck's electrical.

    Head hunger

I have a "detach and go" pill organizer for my Vitamins. I take today's with me in my purse. That's my only product. :cursing: Mostly, I've just worked out routines through trial and error. I find that starting the day with a Protein shake works really well for me and, on days when that doesn't happen, I'm always thrown off and struggling to get in my protein. I top my protein off at night with a protein hot chocolate most days too. In between I mostly drink Water except when I work out. For workouts I have a special mix sports drink I've concocted which is designed to replace the calories I'm burning in the workout. If it's a super-intense or long one, I also gel or have a banana or protein muffin or Protein Bar in there somewhere. My Snacks are protein based. So mostly FAGE yogurt, cheese sticks, nuts, cottage cheese, beef Jerky... stuff like that.

    Liquid fast support

Thanks Mel. I am really tough, just not in the anticipation of it all. lol! Well, I dont' know whether to declair myself OFF the clear liquid fast and onto mushies. I guess that is what I will say as yesterday I tried to stay clear, but ended up having some yogurt and cheese. Very little yogurt and 2 sticks of cheese. I just felt like I needed it. And of course once you introduce your stomach to food, it wants it regularly. So my weight loss has come to a complete stop. I will try hard during the weekend and after my fill on Monday, I will start the real plan. THAT will include some daily exercising. Then I am really hoping to lose a couple of pounds a week. I'd be extatic with that. But officially I have 3 days left of clear liquid torture, I mean fasting.
  13. Hi Everyone I just wanted to give you all a quick update on my progress. I'm 31 days post-op from my VSG to MGB revision. I'm down 23 pounds since surgery & 29 pounds since pre-op diet(3 day plain yogurt &water). I think I'm making excellent progress considering I'm a revision patient. In speaking with dr. Ponce de leon before surgery, he decided that a 300cm bypass would work best for me considering my lifelong battle with Obesity and my previous WLS failure. I'm so glad that he did a longer bypass! After years of struggle, I feel like I'm finally going to reach my goal weight. I also started back working out last week. I would like to do it first thing in the morning, but my daily bowel movements start at 6am. I make multiple trips to the restroom. It's usually over by 730am. I'm usually safe to go the gym around 9am. BM's don't hurt(no cramping), but they do stink bad and they have the potential to travel to other rooms and linger in the air is you don't contain it with some Poo pourri. Thanks to another poster, I was able to make my own poo pourri. It works just as great! Other than that, I'm doing fine. I get lethargic from time to time, but that's normal for me. The only thing I miss is being able to gulp down Water. I truly love water. I will try to keep you all updated on my progress from time to time. I've been a part of different WLS forums for years and I hate it when people disappear after their surgery. I hope my story helps someone in their 1st surgery or Revision surgery journey.

    NUT said no Greek yogurt?!?

My NUT told me to eat Greek Yogurt and to substitute it for other things like mayonnaise. She also wants me to drink low fat milk instead of almond or soy milk. Unless your NUT is going to come to your house to be kitchen monitor, I would just go with what dairy I can keep down, and then just tell her what she wants to hear. In the meantime, I would seek a 2nd opinion from a different NUT.

Maybe try KEFIR thick liquid yogurt drink. You need your shakes to give you your protein, almond milk will give you some but its alot of calories for not alot of protein I just checked my hubbies carton and his was 80 calories 1gram of protein, maybe his isnt the best . Im sure theres better out there. Also try Premier Protein shakes thet taste great over ice. 30 grams of protein 1 gram of sugar 5 carbs hope this helps. Good luck.

    Not feeling full

Whoa! Did the doc tell you it was ok to eat a cup and a half of food?? Your stomach is swollen and numb so don't look for that full feeling just yet especially with things like yogurt. You should be measuring and eating only a certain amount the first weeks. For most of us it's 1/4 cup at a time.. You are a man? Your stomach is probably naturally bigger than mine but 1 1/2 cups is to much.
  18. I've been doing the light fairlife milk, light mayo, 100 cal Greek yogurts, reg cottage cheese and cheeses, and substituting plain Greek yogurt for sour cream. Just trying to cut out where I can without sacrificing taste!
  19. I'm a full fat kinda girl. Real cheese, real butter, real salad dressing, real mayo, real sour cream. I do drink skim milk because I like it, and I buy light Greek yogurt because the kids prefer it. Full fat tastes better and keeps me full longer. Much more satisfying.

    fruit yogurt

Both of those are up to your doc, but my thought with the yogurt is no bc the fruit may have skin or seeds which could be hard on your digestion... What i did was buy peaches in light syrup, pureed them and mixed in vanilla yogurt.... Additionally watch out for berry yogurt as they may have seeds that could irritate your gi tract if you have them too soon...... Also muller makes yogurt that has fruit completely pureed but is a bit pricier

    Day 3 Post Surgery

Feeling much better today. I have been able to drink and eat with minimal cramps from my new sleeve. I'm getting up and down much better as well. I still have some pulling on the incisions when I get up but it is nothing like it was the past 2 days. The menu for the last 2 days included Jello, popcicles, broth, and of course water. My plan allowed me to add some new things today so I have added unsweetened apple sauce, light yogurt, and really think oatmeal. So far everything is settling ok although I am taking it really slow. Hoping tomorrow will be even better.
  22. I'm 3 weeks Post-op and just started on full liquids, soup, yogurt and farina. I've had the same 4 oz of yogurt sitting on my desk since 9:30 and it's 11:15 now and I still have a quarter of it left. It's not like I'm not craving food, I had a dream of dipping french fries into over easy eggs 2'x since surgery. However, when it comes to eating my limited choices, I have no desire, I'd rather drink Isopure and water all day and I'm so tired from only eating 600 calories a day. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Post op week 2 and 3!?

I too am 6 days out.. Only cream soups I can think of is cream of chicken or mushroom.. To me that sounds gross.. Lol.. Mushies in my handbook says anything soft u can mash with a for.. Examples from my book: scrambled eggs, low fat cottage cheese or ricotta cheese, puddin, apple sauce, smashed banana, cream of wheat/rice, grits, oatmeal ( soup consistency), mashed sweet or white potatoes, puréed acorn or butternut squash, canned veggies ( cook until very soft and mash with a fork) purée peas, carrots, green beans, beets, puréed chicken, turkey ( no skin) or mashed canned chicken, tuna, soft fish- haddock, tilapia, cod, salmon, fat- free refried beans, blended light low fat yogurt or Greek yogurt ( higher protein count), condiments, such as low fat mayo, mustard, fat free butter spray, spices & herbs, hot sauce, & vinegar. Hope this has helped some ) I'm excited to hear of your journey..

    Mashed potatoes

I always have Greek yogurt on hand. I like Oikos triple zero the best. Yoplait just came out with a yogurt that is made using ultra filtered milk that has a similar nutritional profile that I like too. For meals I like a dense protein, Aidell makes a great chicken sausage. I eat lots of salmon and chicken dishes I make in my slow cooker.

    One week Post-op!

You will feel like like you are eating constantly for the first few weeks, it gets easier. My ability to drink more at a time increased quickly. But yeah, it’s a chore at first. I ate a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans or pea soup and usually 1 protein shake a day. I couldn’t do puréed meat so I depended a lot on dairy during that time. I bought a little insulated lunch bag w an ice pack so I could take food with me if I was going to be out of the house for more than an hr or 2. I also recommend Cooking eggs in the microwave as opposed to on the stove, they come out much softer and more moist than the stove top. Good luck!
