  1. Watching what you eat probably brought you to the level you need to maintain your weight. While slightly disappointing, not gaining is the first steps to success for many people.
  2. I get it. I'm still looking at 3 months of jumping through insurance hoops. Just keep thinking of the goal. Imagine yourself next summer! Every time I see someone I haven't seen in a while I wonder what I'll look like the next time they see me! 4 weeks is nothing compared to the amount of time you've probably spent being miserable bc of your weight. Concentrate on why you are doing this! Can't wait to hear your success stories in a month or two! Hang in there!
  3. Mine are 14 & 15. Both boys. Not only do I want them to keep their weight down in the future but I don't want them to be embarrassed of their mom because of her weight.
  4. Hello everyone. Im a newbie here, just starting my weight-loss journey. I attened my first seminar last week, and heard back from the office today about my benefits. According to my insurance, I must do a 6 month diet( as most of you know), and than we can do the surgery. Luckily for me, I did 2 months of a program this year, so I only need for more months. Im not happy about waiting for 4 months, but It will give me a chance to really think through the surgery, along with getting in the best shape as possible. Looking for others who give any support or tips, or just need to talk. Thanks for Listening JR

    A Little Worried...

Drinking the water, especially pre-op, is REhydrating your body. Diet coke and other caffeinated drinks act as diuretics and pull water out of our cells. Once you start drinking the water, you will gain a bit, but it's a temporary gain. Keep up on the water; that's a FANTASTIC change for yourself!!

    Earlier Surgery Date!!

I'm a little nervous too but I was also nervous about my breast reduction and everything went great. Everyone described that as excruciating pain and it was definitely uncomfortable but also like I hear about the lapband...WORTH IT! I didn't let the mental part freak me out about the physical pain and changes. Everyone is different and I look at things as either temporary or permanent change. I can handle temporary discomfort for long term gain or in this case loss. :-)

    10% Body Fat!

Can you ask your doctor for help with this. I was fortunate enough that I did not have to loose any weight before suregery. I only had to eat light the day before surgery. I would ask your doctor for guidance or see a nutritionist.
  9. Day 8 of the pre-op diet and I am not hungry at all. Very weird. Today I drank a Vitamin Water Zero and a RockStar no calorie but ate nothing until dinner. Then I had 3 ounces chicken and some veggies as directed. I've already had to toss my favorite jeans because they were falling down. If this keeps up, I will be buying new pants every two weeks. It's a nice problem to have but hard to absorb mentally. My doctor said my goal weight was 105 at 5 feet tall. No one weighs 105 in my universe! I am also "nesting" like pregnant women do. This house is going to be so clean and tidy! Wednesday is the big day. Can't weight, umm wait! Freudian typing!

    Finally!

Yes I have been working at getting in all the liquids and eating my oh so nummie (ha ha) broth. I love that I get to choose from chicken and beef, woo hoo-- the highlight of my eating...But you know I am really excited about getting the weight off and seeing results! I am just glad the hard part is over and I can start the rest! I love this forum thanks for your responses! By the way did you gain weight when you got home from the hospital? I got on the scale right when I got home yesterday from the hospital and it said I gained 4 lbs LOL!!!
  11. One thing that stuck with me is also not as much weight loss. At the seminar I attended he said they total remove the stomach with the sleeve and with the bypass it stays in. So later on with your older if by any chance you. Need a feeding tube then you still have your stomach

    I Have Only Just Begun

Thank you everyone for replying to my post. Cassiem93, you don't have UHC for insurance do you? lol I am going to do some calling tomorrow to the surgeons office. I need to know how I am to prove these things. I have no way of proving I have done Atkins, Slim Fast, etc. Am I supposed to get something in writing from the two Chiropractors I have been to over the years. Am I to get something from Curves that I went to for a year. I think I understand, they will contact my Primary Care Physician, for my weight history? I will talk with them tomorrow and then start on the paperwork. I have been to busy today to start on it.
  13. I'm so excited and nervous! Walking into my appointment today, I almost turned around! I was so nervous of the "what if's".... What if I'm too big for surgery... what if he thinks I'm not a good fit for the surgery I want... what if he looks at me and tells me I'm not trying hard enough with other options (my mom's suggestion: "Why don't you exhaust all of your other options first honey!") What if he likes everything and first surgery date avalible is in December... what if!!! Thankfully my husband was by my side and I'm too chicken to tell him "lets turn around and hide!" What if nothing! ***Happy "I'm getting surgery" dance!!!!**** (never thought I would be happy about going into surgery willingly! needles *cringe*) He approved me for surgery, he said two weeks of shakes/ less than 1,000 calories a day and surgery on June 13th!!! Bonus: Work is good with the days off, kids are going to hang with my mom and my honey is going to be by my side (he is my rock!) On a side note: The girls in my office are always having some sort of weight loss something going on... I think the current thing is $5 to weigh in each week for 6 weeks and at the end the "biggest loser" gets the "pot". They have always invited me to join in, but at twice their weight I've never been interested in everyone knowing my actual weight. Today they told me they didn't want me to join... that they all knew they would lose!! (this actually makes me happy!) Happy Tuesday everyone!

    Just Got My Surgery Date!

Congratulations! I have Cigna too and I'm hoping to be able to stop the weight loss supervision after 3 months under the new policy. I could actually have surgery this summer if they allow it. Enough about me, congrats again.

    Why Are You Getting Sleeved

I agree with the above. Isn't it nice to have a solution! I am 38 and I want to live and be healthier. I want my weight to not get in my way with all the things I want to do in this life! Enough is enough! Right?

    Why Are You Getting Sleeved

wow. so when you lose the weight than what. still flip flops or those SEXY hills
  17. Today is also day 4 for me. I find im so busy I dont get all my meals and shakes from the dr. My weight is already going down. I drink was and unsweet tea oh my splurge is one SF jello! Makes me smile. I far ...... Its a breeze for me Hoe it stats that way for one more week
  18. This is a question for those of you sleevers who have lost a significant amount of weight or gotten to goal and MAINTAINED for a long period of time. You may have busted through that initial plateau and continued to lose to get to goal. Now you're maintaining and hopefully loving it... My question is, where are your calories and macronutrients (Protein, carbs, fats) now, and how did you get them there? Did you slowly raise them and lose/maintain while doing so? Have you brought carbs back up to a more "normal" place? Have your portion sizes changed? Also, now that you're so far out from your surgery, do you go to your original doc/nutritionist for guidance, a personal trainer, new nutritionist/coach, or are you deciding your calories/macros on your own?
  19. If you're like a lot of the rest of us, at 43 you'll end up at 350, or even 400. That's 10 years from now. Not to be negative or a downer, but that's been the reality for me. My losses were rewarded with triple gain. I wish I'd had this done 10 years ago. The "not being able to eat" (for me it was 5 weeks) is so very temporary, and TOTALLY worth it!! It goes by like a blip on a radar screen and you'll barely remember what it was like as you start trying on smaller and smaller clothing! Just sayin'...... you could do it....easy.

    Cheated Last Night

Are you eating a lot of sugars? I just watched for the 3rd time (just to remind me) a 60 minute episode about the toxic effects of sugar. Sugar is addicting and leads to diabetes and cardiac problems. Sugar also feeds tumors and cancers. If you have a moment, go to the 60 minute website and search for the episode on sugar. it really opened my eyes. Sugar is a addiction for me and I find myself going back to eating it. Such a struggle for me. Let me know what you think about it. Sugar also leads to obesity. I look at people in my community and 80% of them are way over weight, including our children. It's so sad, I hate the journey they are embarking on. I plan to start a program to help educate on healthy diet and exercise.

    Almost 18 months out

Julester, congrats on your fab weight loss and maintance... and on your forthcoming sergery ...*goes green with envy*! You must let us know how you get on and some pics??? Any hints on how to get to that all important goal? I am 13mths out and struggling with each and every pound!! I am 17lbs of surgeons goal and just over 30lbs to my ultimate goal!! I would love to get there, but I sometimes wonder if my body is happy where it is even if my head isn't...? Good luck in Oct! =]
  22. Ok so my surgery was January 31, 2012 in the first two and half weeks I lost 32 pounds and have been stalled for 2 weeksish. This has caused me to be so bummed. Even through reading posts about it being normal, and doing everything right: I'm still obsessed with the scale and bummed. My NUT said I already started out with a dramatic weight loss and I'll start to equal out and lose 10 pounds a month, conservatively. However I am trying to focus on the positive. Therefore I am posting my first NSV: I HAVE A NECK!! In my wedding pictures I was at my highest weight (still had an amazing wedding). However the one thing I noticed was my head looked like it sat on my shoulders. Yuck. Last night I went out with some friends and after being tagged on Facebook (I usually dreaded) I was happy with most of the pictures and noticed my neck (: I also posted two pictures in my gallery and can see a little difference there as well. Here's to more NSVs and a healthy journey! Have a fabulous Sunday, sleevettes!

    CPAP after surgery?

I am 7 months out, down 78 lbs and have dropped the pressure on my machine twice since surgery. My pulminologist said he wants to wait until I am finished losing weight before he sends me for another sleep study. He also warned me that some people continue to need therapy despite the weight loss. Honestly, I sleep so well with my CPAP I am really in no rush to get rid if it. ????
  24. I have type 2. no insulin. I am hoping to get rid of type 2 diabetes with the help of weight loss. Good luck on your journey. I look forward to my journey.

    Thinking About The Sleeve

Hi. I am a newbie as well and just made my decision yesterday. I am 45 years old and have struggled with my weight all my life with many ups and downs. I see my mom still struggling at 65 years old. I do not want to struggle for the rest of my life. My advice to you is if it is safe to do the procedure then do it now while you are young. Good luck.
