    When can I resume exercise?

First off, check with your surgeon. I'm finding on these boards that everyone is given different orders from their surgeons. However, mine said I could only walk or use a stationery bike for the first 3 weeks. Start walking in the hospital and continue to walk at least 30 min/day once you've gone home. I added the stationery bike during the second week. At 3 weeks, I was given the green light for any and all exercise. I'm 4 weeks out and in the second week of couch to 5k 3 days a week and the elliptical the other 4 days. I worry about strenuous ab exercises, but my surgeon says I'm fine.
  2. Hey everyone! I am almost 3 months post op sleeve and down 60 lbs, woo hoo! I was just curious when other sleevers noticed that their weight loss stopped? 12 months? 18? Only 6? I am still hoping to lose a lot more and I am currently in a stall, so I need reassurance that I will still lose! Thanks everyone!
  3. Hello I'm new to the forum! I went from the lap band to sleeve one week ago because I lost absolutely no weight with the band. My band was done by Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez, Mexico and by sleeve was done by Dr. Mario Almanza in Tiajuana. I must say the sleeve already seems like a much better fit than the lap band as I have already lost 5 pounds! However, i wonder when will the pain end? When I drink anything other than water right now, I get a pain in the top part of my stomach. Is that normal? It feels a little scary to me even though the doctor said that its normal. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping its just my stomach healing and it will get easier day by day.

    Band to Sleeve.. Need help!

I had a slipped band. I had it replaced and it never worked right again. After that the doctor told me they usually do not give good restriction the second time. I wish he had told me that to start with. I had a second slip and had it removed. I now have the sleeve. Weightloss is very slow with the sleeve for me. I have lost eight pounds in 21 days. I am in a stall so I am not sure where I will end up.

    Band Or Bypass

Do a search of all the boards on this site and look for threads with this issue as the subject...... quickly this was my reason. I have two RL close friends that both had the RNY one is 4 years out and one is 2. Friend that is 4 years PO has gained back almost all of the 120 lbs she lost because she never suffered from the Dumping and could eat anything. She is horrible about taking her vitimins and subsequently suffered a lot of depression mostly due to regaining her weight after all the money and crap she went through......... she is considering getting banded now. Friend 2, has lost over 120lbs and just had a tummy tuck and boob lift and looks awesome. She stays away from the dumping foods and has done extremely well.................. I knew RNY wasn't for me because... 1. I want all my innards to stay intact and there if I need them later in life. 2. Taking 4-6 weeks off work is not an option, with my band I had surgery on Thursday and was back to my desk job on Monday. My boss has no clue as I just took 2 days of PTO and that was it. 3. My issue is portion control, and I want to be able to get a fill 1, 2, 10 years down the line if I see myself being able to eat to much, where as with the RNY you CAN restretch your pouch 4. Insurance paid for it. 5. It can be unfilled in times of medical need or pregnacy 6. Any general surgeon can remove it in an emergency.. vs the bypass which is forever. To answer the weight question... Just do a search for BOO, JulieinNYC, Neal )OUsooner, and many many many others they have lost well over 100 lbs and in some cases over 200 lbs... My doc says average weight loss is 1-3 pounds per week........ so that is 52-150+ in a year........ and in my book that is fast enough Good luck in whatever decision you make. Afterall it is YOUR journey and no one elses.

I'm sort of where you are. 1 fill that didn't do anything for me. I've even gained a pound or two, and I'm hungry and eating more than I'd like. Looking forward to the next fill, but that's 4 weeks away. Trying hard to eat on the South Beach plan, avoid eating out - and like you have a jungle to tame. Dam blasted mower, I couldn't start it so junked it and bought an electric. Can start that one, but man that electric cord is a pain... Maybe I should trade the dogs for goats. LOL...
  7. Hello everyone  I've had my band for approximately 2 years. The weight lost has been slow. When I started I weighed about 250 and went down to 172 and still losing. I did not have an adjustment for awhile. When I finally went in for an adjustment I was shocked to find out that I had a dilation of the band. Instead of my band being filled my band was deflated and I was told to come back in 6 weeks to see if it repaired itself. In between that visit I gained 13 pounds. My doctor informed me that my band would have to be repaired or possible change to gastric by pass. I see my doctor on 9/25/09 for consultation and he will discuss my options. I'm so distruaght. Part of me have been considering the gastric sleeve or bypass to lose the quickly and move on with my life. I feel this is such a set back. Yes....it's obvious that I'm very upset over this but I'm determine at what ever choice is made. With a deflated band I have this horrendous appetite. I've been trying to control it but it's difficult. I think this whole ordeal and setback is messing with my head. I would not suggest getting rid of the band if you have not managed your eating disorder. I'm not ashamed to admit that I need the support of the band. Terry

    Banded 12/27

Just wanted to introduce myself. I was banded 12/27 and tomorrow will make 4 weeks since then. As of today, I'm down 17 lbs from the weigh in the morning of surgery. I had the iLap procedure (with stomach plication). My co-workers and most of my family have been very supportive (with the exception of my mother in law). What I have come to realize is that a positive mental attitude is key. I've changed my entire outlook on eating. Not as a thing to socialize at, or do when bored, but as something to provide nutrients for my body. I may have gone a bit overboard, but I now eat organic as much as possible and make sure I have my daily vitamins and protein. I'm working out 4-5 times a week starting off slow and building up. No one can go in from being a couch potato and expect to get on the treadmill for an hour. I started with 20 minutes have worked out up 30 and added weights to help tone up. Any other workout suggestions would be great. I'm so glad to have found a place with others in my situation.
  9. I just have one three year old grandson so I bought him duplo's and books. My kids got clothing and my DH got one of those new coffee makers.
  10. For me stage 2 was puree's, back on them again as I had a fill on Thursday. But I had learned more about what to eat from the 2 weeks I did them before!
  11. Tomander

What exactly are stage 2 foods??

I was giving a 4 stage Post Op plan to follow 1 week Clear liquids 1 week Full Liquids 1 week Mushie Foods 1 week Solid to "Normal" foods Were you not given a menu plan to follow by your doctor? Don't rush into "normal" foods. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 160 lbs
  12. I have been waiting to be banded for 10 months. Finally last week I had my surgery. It has been 7 days and I am so glad it's done. I was a little sore at first and the liquid diet is hard at times. I feel pretty good now, just a little soreness on my left side (I hope that is normal). I go back to the Dr. in 2 days and hopefully will move up to full liquids. The truth is recovery has not been that bad and whenever something is hard--like not being able to bend over to pick up something or other people eating in front of me -- I just think about how I will look and feel in a few months. This is one of the best decisions of my life and I can't wait to start living!

I am doing great. Down 26pds ans have 20 more to go. I had 3 cormobidities and for my height and BMI my insurance approved me. I am as of next Wednesday off all meds. So it has been soooo worth everything. I just had my first fill 2 weeks ago and not sure it has restriction as much as I thought but I am stable on weight and not gaining. How are you doing?

New, First Post, Saying Hi. :)

Thank you! I am just beginning-although I've been thinking about it for prob a year.... I've gone to their seminar, and been to a support group and got alot of good answers there. Tonight I'm fillling out my paperwork and next step is consult w/the doctor-then psych, nutritionist and I'm off for the surgery!! What are your major concerns about this? I think mine might be what I will be eating after the surgery-I've heard we may not have anything but liquids/shakes/broths for up to a month and one report said it may be up to 12 weeks!!! Wha??? Is that true? I'm sure I can ask the doc when I go for my consult, but just wondering if you knew?? Also I'm alittle concerned about staying hydrated- have you heard anything about that? Thanks, Leigh Ann
  16. How long has it been stopped? You are likely in a stall. If it is a stall, just keep plugging along and it will pass. May take 3-4 weeks, might be less.

Ok so the date is set and I am getting anxious..(Fri the 18th)I am binge eating and lol the whole time, knowing in my mind I am not doing myself any good. But can't seem to resist.I have heard from so many that they are on liquids before surgery and I have not been given any instructions to do so. Preop is Wed. I am worried about this though. Please give me thoughts and suggestions to get through the week. Although I am excited I can definately say the nerves are setting in...
  18. Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I have been enjoying the posts! Thanks for the information and encouragement!. My question: I was banded on Dec 15th and stuck to the liquid diet for 1 week. I have been eating mushy foods since, but I've experimented with a few other things over the Christmas holiday. Long story short, today I woke up, ate a banana and took my pills, but felt nauseous and dizzy about 1/2 hour later. Then I had a Greek yougurt trying to calm my stomach down thinking I didn't eat enough protein. It worked for about 10 minutes then the problem came right back. Evertime I eat something, I feel better, but temporarily. I have felt this way ALL day and it doesn't get worse, but it doesn't get better either. Is this normal and what can I do about it? Is it possible that my "cheats" have affected my band? Help!

  20. I'm new at this site and trying to navigate. I guess this thread will be read. I'm having surgery monday 5/4. My best friend, momnlaw, daughternlaw will be with me...because I'm so chicken of the procedure. I'll get over it, after I go throw up. I guess It's just I'm not used to dealing with my feelings without food, and having been on this preop diet for a week and a half, I just get mad alot, cry sometimes, and am impatient with others. I Know? I'll get thru this. I.... Wow look how many times I've used "I". Better get myself out of me, and do something else. Thanks for listening.

My wife was banded the same day as you were. Sorry to here about the loss in the job. I hope that you still have insurance. Have you had a 2nd fill yet? We are going in Janaury and should have fill # 3. The one thing that are doctor says we need to do more of is excerise. He says that will help the most. One thing that I have notice so far that a lot of people talk about is the fact that they get a fill and then within a week or two they ready for another fill. This is going to be one of my questions next week when we go for a check up. I do not understand how the body works as it relates to physics. If you have any questions or need someone to chat just e-mail me. I understand about being out of work. 5 years ago I was out for a year looking for work. Chris

Well, I posted about my surgery here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/surgery-day-stories-64287/index33.html#post1420497 As far as pain, I was in a good amount of pain for a few days. Now, I'm sore in my lower stomach (the dr said it was from stretching/pushing on my organs to place the port). Now, the port is a little weird. It doesn't hurt, but it's an odd feeling. You can TELL there's something under your skin, but it definitely doesn't hurt. Scaring seems like it's going to be pretty minimal. I had my gallbladder removed about 5 years ago, & it's the same type of procedure. I had VERY fant scaring from it, so I'm assuming this will be along the same lines. There's a bigger cut where my port was placed, but it's nothing major. My scaring tends to turn into a lighter shade of my skin color. It's not extremely noticeble, but I can see it. Hunger isn't that big of an issue. I tend to only get really hungry when I first wake up. I tend to drink a lot of Water & Protein, so I'm not hungry often. The biggest thing to remember is that in the beginning, you're body is still healing. I didn't feel that true "hunger" feeling until about a week or so after my surgery. You're apetite it's quite the same in that healing stage, so you don't go looking for food, like you might have before the band. Honestly, the hardest part of this entire thing so far has been the pre-op diet. It was so hard being on full liquids, then Clear Liquids after that. I broke down 2 days before my surgery. I just started crying because I was so hungry. The next day (day before my surgery) I was different. I guess I kept telling myself "just get through today". Other than that, I hope I answered all your questions. If you have anything else you want to ask, feel free. I'm an open book.
  24. It bothers me that I am receiving so much negativity from medical professionals in my area in regards to me having wls. I went for my appt with Psych last week and she said to me, in regards to surgery, that I have too many kids and have too much going on to be successful with the band. It bothers me and for the past few days, the more I read the forums, the angrier I get. I am 31, married, have 3 children ages 10, 7 and 5 months. I work full time, go to school and work a small part time every other weekend. I graduate in May and hope to have this surgery by the end of the year. I have great family support, my older children are very independent and helpful in the house, and my family life works like a well oiled machine. She suggest I give something up. Ever since I had my youngest son and returned to work, I wake up at 6 am and go to the gym at least 4 times a week. I have researched the band to the fullest, maintained my grades, cook dinner for my family most nights, check homework etc. I have started eating smaller portions trying to get my mind right for wls. It pisses me off that when a woman of color wears her many hats all we get is criticism. I do what I do in life flawlessly and when I set my mind to something, I get things done. I read all these threads and it bothers me that the only main discouragement other women not of color have gotten was their surgeon pushing gastric. When did 3 kids become too many. I understand I have a lot going on but that is the way my life functions. She asked what triggers me eating and I responded "When I get bored. But honestly speaking with my schedule how often is that?" Before I even considered lap band, I talked it over with my familyand figured how I can make it work for me. I really hate people telling me I'm going to fail when they don't know how I operate or what drives me.

    Virginia newbie

Hi all, I'm from the beaches of Virginia but left my bikini body behind some 30 years ago! My appointment with the surgeon is this Wednesday, so I guess I'll find out then if I can be banded. I sure hope so. Been fighting weight all my life; and now I have diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other lovelies. God blessed me with a loving, supportive husband of 24 years and a wonderful 19 year old son who is currently in college. Life is good and full; in more ways than one! I've been reading for several weeks; learning as much as I can from you fine folks. My surgeon is Anthony Terracino if anyone is familiar with him... Well, other than the fact that I'm retired on disability since 1995 due to complications from a craniotomy (lupus related); that's about all there is to tell about me. I enjoy gardening when I am able, our church family, and we like to travel but haven't been able to this past year because of my loss of mobility. And I have a ton of great friends! They really keep me going. Looking forward to sharing more with you soon. Hugs, Susie
