Stall ... I'm So Discouraged! Help!
inarakatra posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brief Story: I weighed 275 when I started the 6 month Supervised Diet Visits. I got down to 262 the day of surgery which was Oct 28th. I weight 242.5 today. I have been 242.5 since Nov 18 and the scale will not move. I started tracking my Protein and calories a week ago in Sparkpeople. I get 60 to 65 grams of Protein a day. I'm drinking 50+ oz of Water a day. I'm getting 600 to 800 calories a day. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I exercise 30 to 45 minutes a day at least 5 days a week. I feel like the biggest failure. I've heard of 1 week stalls, maybe 2, but I'm going on a 3 week stall. Is this normal? My next doctor's appointment is Dec 18th. I can't believe that I'm failing at this too. I didn't think I would, but it feels now like I am. -

do weight gaining meds effect weightloss?

I was told some meds do slow a weight loss. My bp meds don't exactly help the weight loss, so I am sooooo looking forward to being off them. -

Anyone out there on the graveyard shift trying to keep the weight off?
911dispatcher replied to myangel0704's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a dispatcher and work 2 months night shift, 2 months day shift, 12 hr shifts. I am on nights right now, for January and February. Most of the advice that I have found on the Internet, and from the medical profession, for weight loss, is hard to apply when you work shift work. It's on thing to say eat healthy snacks. It's another thing to be awake at 3am when everyone is sleeping, and just want comfort food. So I think we face an extra challenge as night workers, but it is possible to lose weight, especially after WLS. -
Eating more than usual :(
Sirmikael replied to bellabeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 5th of 6th monthly dietician meetings is Wednesday, and I'm guilty of taking off a week or two after meetings. I've had weight loss every month, but I know the cheating ends soon. -
need help from july 2010 bandsters
Nicole74 replied to Laylas grandma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, I was banded July 31st I was the same way as you september-november...I just went up and down 3-4lbs...than I got my 3rd fill at the very end of november and had good retriction for 2 weeks and dropped 8lbs but now Im back to losing and gaining 2lbs..havnt lost any since the second week of december. I lost alot of weight the first month which gave me a nice boost but its alot slower than I thought. I am even going to the gym 3x a week and trying to watch what I eat. I think exercise is the key to be honest...especially when you dont have alot of restriction...I have my next fill in 2 days and I am hoping that helps me lose some more weight again...I think you already know your answer about what you need to do...but if you need someone to talk to ...just message me and we can exchange email or whatever works for you. I could always use someone to talk to when times get rough and someone to share the good stuff too! Hang in there and try to keep postive and change some of your ways by adding exericse in! -
Not all calories are created equal....
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is the link to a blog that tells what I eat. This is what works for me, that doesn't mean it is for everyone. You have to find your own way on this journey. What I eat... - LAP-BAND I stay between 800-1200 calories a day but that depends on if I worked out that day or if I am going to work out the next day then I am around 1200 if I am not working out that day or the next I am at 800. I don't work out everyday instead I work out really hard 3 days a week. I am talking about my pulse being at 90% for an hour, sweating like you wouldn't believe. I have to have 1200 calories to work this hard or I run out of gas. Oh and I worked up to this over a period of time. Keep in mind you have just been banded for 6 weeks or so, I gained weight in the first 6 weeks so don't start beating yourself up for not losing steady. My advice is to look at what you are doing every week and find 1 thing that you can include or eliminate that will give you better results. If you do this every week you will learn a new lifestyle with continuous improvement instead of trying to change your whole life all at once. -
HELP! Is it possible to stall so early
PamelaAM replied to PlannerGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 21 lbs in the first 11 days and then nothing for a couple of weeks after that. Then I started losing again. Your body is going through major trauma right now and needs to adjust. Six weeks is a long time to be on full liquids - I was only on them for 11 days - but each surgeon is different. At only 400 calories your body is in starvation mode and it will be hard to lose. But just keep doing what the doc tells you - the weight WILL come off!!! The sleeve works for sure, I can tell you that! -
Any long termers going back to basics?
emjay replied to olwen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Olwen - Please don't equate being tight with the ability to lose weight. I did this and was miserable for about 6-7 weeks. My doc's office really cautions people on their forum to try and leave the band a little looser rather than too tight. I was reading some recent statistics yesterday concerning the band and noticed that between year 2 to 3 with the band the average slippage rate goes to 10%. That is a huge concern to me. I have been tight and have been where I am now and still been able to loose weight effectively. Just because I can eat more comfortably doesn't mean I can eat more in volume. But I sure have more of a variety of foods I can tolerate. It's really important to be able to get your fluids in daily. That was also an issue when I was tight. It was difficult to drink 64 oz in a day. Now, no problem. I can't chug it, but I can take 3-4 medium size gulps with no issues. I am just really concerned with those who choose to keep their band tight. Because it is a really slippery slope in terms of taking chances with a slippage. Good luck to you in your journey! -
I'm currently on the puree'd foods. I am, as I think many of us are, very tired of whey protein. I can start on soft foods next Thursday. But things are going well. I am a bit more tired than I thought I would have been, but I find a nap during the day seems to perk me up. Prior to surgery, I was taking 17 different medications (metabolic syndrome) plus a shot twice a month; I am now taking 4 medications, plus the two shots. No high blood pressure, no heart angina, no osteoarthritis. So overall right now, feeling pretty great on top of it. I do have a question; while I am loosing steadily, once in a while I have a day where it goes up just a bit (about half-one pound). Am I doing something, or is this just one of the attempts of my body to find equilibrium with the weight loss? Thanks!

3 1/2 months out and hit a stall....HELP!!!
To Be Thin 2011 replied to thenewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, thank you for this post! I was sleeved January 12th. I have been bummed all day cause I weighed myself today, as I do each week and I lost....08 of a pound, not even a whole pound. What made it worse is this past week I was the most physically active then I had ever been since surgery so I was anticipating hitting a big number in my weight loss...not even a pound..ridiculous... I read others posting these big numbers - losing 20-30 pounds a month and even more! I felt I was the only sleever that was seeing slow loss. I normally am pretty consistant with a 2-3 pound loss each week - which is not even half as much of a loss as other posts I read. So I truly do appreciate reading posts like yours to keep it all real. -
me today. Not very much weight loss but its a start..71 pounds lighter.

Comfortable
Inner Surfer Girl replied to burtonbn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One other bit of advice. Don't start a diet before you have your first appointment. Based on what I have learned here, depending on your insurance and your BMI, you may need a higher starting weight (just an observation). -
Hi All- My name is Brittany and I'm 25 years old. I'm currently trying to decide if Bariatric Surgery is the right route for me, given my circumstances. Basically, if I decide to go through with it all, I'd like to try to get the surgery done before I turn 26 in October. Until that point I'll have two insurances (through work and my dad-- thanks Obamacare!) and I figured that would be the cheapest way to get it done. I have my first Doctor's consultation in a couple of weeks and I've been researching the options. Right now, sleeve or bypass seem best for me, but I just don't know. I think once I meet my doctor he will be able to give me his professional opinion on the matter. I guess where I'm struggling right now is deciding if it's actually something I actually want to do. I've been overweight my entire life and have grown quite comfortable with my appearance. I'm very proportional for my size- and I've always thought of myself as attractive. I actually worry, very vainly, that I'll be less attractive if I lose weight. I'm dating someone who loves my curves and wouldn't change me for the world and I worry that if I lost weight he might look at me differently. (Although I think that's more of a personal concern, because I know he would support and encourage me if it meant I was being healthy). I have infertility issues and my doctors have told me repeatedly that losing weight will only increase my chances at getting pregnant. I also know that losing my excess fat will make me healthier in the long run. But I'm so comfortable the way I am now. Was anyone else afraid to take that leap?

8 Weeks Post Op and Still No Fill.
GoCubbies79 replied to GoCubbies79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mention to the doctor how many calories per day I am eating and what my daily diet consists of. The doctor did say that normally people eat around 900 calories a day but he said he didn't want to tell me to eat more. He was shocked and very happy with my weight loss. I am happy with my weight loss and do not want to increase my calories if I can not naturally fit them in during meal time. My whole reason for doing the lap band was to stop myself from eating just to eat. I am scared that increasing my calories just to hit a number, 900, will put my mind back into the bad habits of eating just to eat. -
Hi, I was banded August of 2009 and got pregnant 4 months after my band. However I have been pretty successful in my weight loss total of 65lbs of the 110lbs I want to lose. However in January I started to notice I could eat much more and really started to have a lot of reflux esp at night. After fills and unfills to try and adjust my band we did the swallow test and my band slipped down. My doctor took out all my fill and now I have to wait a few weeks and see if my band reposition itself properly. If it does not I have to decide whether or not to just remove my band or have it revised. Both require surgery again. I was just wondering if anyone out there has gone through the same thing and what was the outcome of the removal or revision. Thanks for any input.

3.6 pounds to lose to get into Phase 3
Bethany Copley posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have 3.6 more pounds to lose and I will be able to schedule surgery and start my 4 week pre-op diet (Phase 3). I am HAPPY TODAY. And scared. And happy. And nervous. And then happy again. For the last month I have worked my ass off doing my requirements, losing weight. All in the face of: Tax audit Fiance job demotion 15 year old picked up at a party now has probation officer til May to avoid a "frequenting" charge House repairs we can't afford Etc. But it all blew up the same week I started this. And Ive kept on track. Its scary. 3.6 pounds seems so small, and at the same time, feels like 20 pounds away again. Normally putting such pressure on hitting a "number goal" isn't something I do ( I go by my size) but its my requirement...and the closer it gets the more it feels like *something* else is going to happen. Something else will finally happen and break my resolve to complete this and I will end up gaining or regaining (rapidly, as I am wont to do) the weight I have lost, and not make my requirements by the time I am supposed to. So. I have my Water bottle. And my Walk Away the Pounds DVD is queued up to play on my PS3. Im so close. -
ewww with sugar?? no, no, no. you eat them with butter & a pinch of salt. Or maybe some cheese or red-eye gravy. To the Aussie: do you have Polenta down-under? It's the same thing. As another poster said, do take it easy with grits, they're not weight loss friendly, they're ground corn and corn is a high glycemic food (ie, it tends to spike your blood sugar and then when the bld sugar levels drop.. you get hungry again faster). In general, grits are not high protein. However, if you add some cheese (preferably 2% or even lower fat), then you will get some protein. Pre-banding I LOVED my grits. Nothing better with eggs & sausage in the morning..or with fried catfish at night. Now I rarely eat them. They are a treat rather than an everyday food. Here's some info on a brand I sometimes buy. If I'm gonna indulge, I want the good stuff. With cool weather coming on, it might be time to have a little. I think it's been 6 months or more since I had any. Long term overseas travel 4 months post op
Bufflehead replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With respect to item no. 1, you are traveling to areas that tend to eat carb-heavy cuisines (rice and noodles in Japan, rice, lentils, beans in south Asia, rice, corn and beans in Mexico). So, I think you'll have to be committed to avoiding those foods to a great extent and working at getting lots of meat and green veggies. You can get those things anywhere, but you may have to look harder and work harder to get what you need. Are you willing to do that? If so, go for it! You do not need a bunch of frankenfood protein powders and protein bars and special artificially flavored popsicles and cashew milk and whatever. You just need meat and green veggies and to not fall into the easy trap of eating the big scoop of rice that may start appearing whenever you eat out. As far as exercise goes, people in India and Japan and Mexico probably get more exercise than your typical "first worlder"(assuming you are American, Western European, etc, your profile doesn't say). Commit to doing a lot of walking. Figure out how people where you are get exercise and do it. If it doesn't happen, that's not ideal, but exercise really has a minimal impact on weight loss. You can tone up when you get done with your travels (exercise is not going to have an impact on whether or not you end up with loose skin, so if you are worrying about that, put it aside). People notice what we eat a lot less than we think they do. People will be paying attention to their own food, not yours. Certainly don't let potential judgments from other people stop you from doing what you've wanted to do for a long time. Anyone who is rude enough to make a comment on someone else's eating habits is just a jerk, and you can't let jerks control your life. -
This was the best thing I could have ever done. I haven't had any complications, no drama. I guess we have all gotten to the point where we are ready to shed this weight and keep it off. Not everyone here who has had the surgery was really ready (you can see it in their responses). Of course we're used to eating whatever we want, whenever we want, but look where that got us:thumbdown:. For me, this has been and will continue to be a life changing experience. I am eating better than I ever have in life, I'm exercising (I mean really exercising), I work out 5 days a week , 2 of those days with a personal trainer. It's only been about 6 weeks since surgery and I am getting so many compliments, people are really noticing. Others that need to do something about their weight are inquiring about the procedure. I would shout it from the mountain tops if I could. THE LAP BAND WAS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME:thumbup::lovechoc::scared2:

GOAL WEIGHT AND NOT GETTING TO IT!!!!
jen36 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone got close to their goal weight maybe 10 or 15lbs away and are happy where they are at now???? I feel content being 14lbs away from my goal, everyone says I look great actually too thin but I think I look great. I probably could lose the rest but I am not going to kill myself over the last few lbs as long as they are off by summer!!!! Anyone else feel the same way? -
What does this mean, does weight loss slow if you exercise? i'm getting sleaved in a month.

I currently have a membership at Planet Fitness. I haven't found the staff helpful in terms of training. The other gym near me is an LA Fitness but that is much more than the Planet Fitness. They have the same machines and the weight weighs the same so no sense paying more. Haven't found many local gyms that offer personal training. I'll try doing it myself for a few weeks and see if I get results. I'm thinking twice a week. My shoulders and arms are really scrawny. The exercises I'm thinking of are chest press, shoulder press, seated cable row, leg press, leg curl, and calf extensions.
