1. I got a fill 10 days ago after living nearly 3 years with next to nothing in my band because of pregnancy and breastfeeding. This fill is totally kicking my butt! I still cannot eat most food. Liquids are ok, soft foods (think baby food consistency) are sometimes okay. I am headed back to the doc tommorrow to get a little taken out to get me back to the "sweet spot". After being off of the "band" wagon for so long, have I forgotten what a fill feels like? I have the large Inamed band (10 or 11 ccs) and I am at 5 ccs right now which doesn't seem like much in comparison where some others are that have the same band. Regardless, I need to be able to eat solid food! Right?! Feeling very frustrated and slighly sick after eating a mashed up avacado is not where I want my life to be!

3. Hello all Today was my first visit with my surgeon . So I'm at the beginning stage of my journey. I'm excited and nervous at the same time . I have battled with my weight for the last 10 years and beginning to get progressively worst . As a mother of five I want be around for my children . Aside from being morbidly obese I really don't have any other health issues. I joking call myself the healthiest fat chick I know. I researched this for over a year . I have decided on going with the sleeve as it's better for me and my lifestyle. I am comfortable with my surgeon and his stats. The office staff was very friendly. The host of other doctors is going to be a killer for me because I'm trying to get as much done before September when I go back to work .( I'm a teacher) My insurance company requires 4 month weight loss program which is not as bad as I initially thought considering I only have three more to go . Also my dr said we are looking at a possible date in December which works great for me. Around the break so I don't miss any time from work
4. I have my first business trip for the 5th week after surgery. I've rejected all the requests I've had for earlier travel. As said above, watch the lifting of suitcases, carry-on, etc. You're still healing. Make sure your laptop case is a roller one and you won't be cleared to lift it into the overhead. I've seen a lot of posts from people who are doing great within days, then lots of others where people are dragging through week 5 and beyond. You're going to get the double whammy of a 10 - 12 hour time change (or whatever it is from where you live). That alone will exhaust you. Yes, while a lot of folks travel for the surgery, business travel as we know is a different ball-game. It's not just the flight but working, meetings, dining out, etc. You actually have to perform when you land and be on your game. You will not yet be on solid food (likely) at 3.5 weeks out. I'll just be transitioning to soft food for my trip and plan on packing some food items and definitely checking luggage. I'd be sure to have a Protein drink shaker bottle (I bought the smaller one and am carrying it in my laptop case) along with some individual packets of Protein shake mix which just uses Water - I'm using the Chike brand. You will not be able to eat out for client/team dinners so check with your boss if that will cause a cultural issue. You will likely be hosted and that can sometimes be an issue - especially if you attend something with food and are not able to eat.

Hypothyroid Issues

OKay, first post for me, banded 10/15/10 have had hypothyroid since i was a slim & fit 40 yr old, am 66 1/2 now. Endo doc always had me at mid-higher levels of Synthroid, but at 50 my weight just kept adding on, 10 lbs a year at least. Good results from LB intil about 14 mos ago, i plateaued-out--but have kept same weight while exercising & not exercising. Last 6 mos, my thyroid has been fluctuating an unusual amount. I take .150 mcg Synthroid, which is 2 below the top amount, of about 10 dosages. I test again in 6 weeks. My band was put back to 10 cc after a painful 6 month journey discoverying my reflux had returned with a case of gastritis, just diagnosed by the gastro doc. Oh yes! NO Contrast die for people like me because I am alergice to the IODINE used in the contrast! A good thing to know at my age, but i am not complaining as I have really enjoyed health so far with all my parts intact! But, the pouch was dilated & sagged over the band, i think, because gastro doc sucked food particles during the endoscopy. So now, i am talking to my pouch to heal and not be saggy so Dr Stahl at Kirkland Clinic in Birmingham Alabama can put some restriction back. I just had to give a promo to the doc & the clinic is pretty well organized & fantastic & everything I have had done there. I live 45 milies south of Birmingham, the great medical mecca of the area. And, I had stopped my wellness visits at least 6 months ago, so this is my fault for not being more in touch--i knew something was really really wrong when i could no longer drink 10 oz of water at a time, it just took 3 weeks for me to get diagnosed & treated. Anybody even considering of voting for Obama, just realize that people like me will have to wait many more weeks of pain & discomfort to get treatment for stuff like this w/Medicare because the number of docs will radically thin out! will post again after i see the endo doc & the bariatric doc Stahl. I just pray my pouch can recover its elasticity--but I'm an older bird, so maybe not. Oh, also, with plateau, the skin & muffin top in jeans seems to be reducing slowly...somewhat. But, i am still a happy grandma & very thankful for what the band has helped me do...so far!

So Frustrated!!!!

yes, I have anemia I didn't think it would take 4 months to get my levels to 10 seeing that my levels are only 7.3 but I guess I was wrong.
7. I am 10 months out. I got sleeved in June 2015. I am 44 years old. I was 200 and now I'm 130. I starting losing in October, November and December. I lost 50% of my hair. Literally clumps fell out. Because of this site and all of the hair loss posts, I didn't freak out as much because I knew if I was going to lose hair it would start around the 4th month and last 3 months...which is exactly what happened. I abruptly stopped losing hair after 3 months and now it's all growing back. It's the rapid weight lose and hormones. It's not about getting more protein or certain shampoos or supplements. If you're going to lose hair, it's going to happen. You'll be so afraid it won't stop and then it just does. I didn't get bald spots, but it got very thin and I lost about 6 inches in length. It does suck, but it was worth the weight lose. Good luck!

Low Belly Fat

I just did a wicked workout doing sit ups in a ball 5 reps of 10. Then leg lifts straight up on a bar ouch. My fitness pal says I should see ab changes in two weeks, also low carb.
9. Every person is different. I lost 6 pounds post-op some people loose 10, 2, 7, it varies.
10. Best advice = ALWAYS underfill your sleeve. Weigh and/or measure your food. And when it's gone, it's gone, there is no need for seconds. My NUT said that on a scale of 1 (being like about to pass out from not eating i.e. being hungry) to 10 (being so full you are ready to burst) you should eat until you are about a 4. I think that is excellent advice. I'm 18 months post-op and still weigh and/or measure a lot of my food, just so I know what I'm eating vs. guessing or waiting until I feel full. Hope that helps.

6 month diet

Hello everyone! I had to do 2 weeks of 6 small meals per day of 110grams or more protein and 80g or less carbs and journal it all. Then, I progressed to the liver shrinking diet of same protein but carbs cut to 20g or less for 3 weeks and right up to surgery which is this Tuesday, February 16, 2016. I have lost 20 lbs and 10 inches from my torso!! YES 10 INCHES. My surgeon was very, very happy with my sticking to the eating plan. It was not easy at times but it sure paid off for me. Tomorrow, I get to drink the Magnesium Citrate bowel prep and have only clear liquids. Then, Tuesday, nothing by mouth as I will be checking in to the hospital. I am a little nervous!!

30 Day Shred

I have completed 5 days, and it is a butt kicker. I am taking Sat/Sun off and will continue with it on Monday. I may have to do the first level for more than 10 days, however, because I am not sure I will be able to move on after 10 days.

30 Day Shred

I just worked it for 10 days. I was ready to move on, and had gotten kind of bored with the first level.

"Last Supper Syndrome"

I had lost 35 lbs previously on phentermine while doing the lap band process via my surgeon, and I can tell I have probably put 10 of those pounds back on. I did buy new running shoes today (not that they will see the pavement going that fast!) more like walking. I had a talk with them and told them to make sure I am consistent with the walking exercise! My sister called today and is giving me her old treadmill!!! I am just going to have to buckle down and quit thinking about what I won't be able to have once I am banded but what new things I will be able to do once the surgery is over! I have to talk to my self once in a while! LOL:rolleyes:

Best way to loose faster?

Yes. Pretend like carbs cost $10 apiece - cash!

Best way to loose faster?

I have been on this site for awhile and have been in maintenance awhile... and lost about 160# so have some observations to offer. what you hear about honeymoon period (ie easier to lose in the beginning) is true. Also, people who start with more weight to lose will lose faster in terms of raw pounds. If you have 10 pounds to lose, it would stand to reason you are not going to lose 30# in the first month, right? If you had 160 to lose like I did, that might be possible (I did in fact lose about 30 in the first month). Men typically lose faster than women, younger people often lose faster than older etc - some of those things are really outside of your control. what can you control? Taking advantage of your weight loss tool - the sleeve - and really maximize losses during the honeymoon phase AND probably more importantly be willing to make changes and shake things up once you are - 6-12 months out and the losses (or even maintenance) aren't quite so easy. What works? In my experience, low to moderate carb is key. Staying active and be willing to change up your workout routine. If for example you go for daily walks... as time goes on you will get better results if you start increasing the intensity (add hills or go faster) or change to something else like cycling. Your body gets very efficient at doing whatever it is used to doing. I think the other key is learning to STOP eating before you are full. Get in the habit of eating until no longer hungry... your goal is not feel full. Eating this way day in and day out helps alot with longer term feeling restriction/feeling like your sleeve has a smaller capacity. also, follow the basic rules of Protein and veggies first... drinking separate from food etc. It isn't always easy... my sleeve was December 11, 2011 - I drank a Protein Drink while everyone else had Christmas feast. You know what, it is so worth it though! These days food just isn't as important to me... but that didn't happen overnight...
17. Thanks for the encouraging words everybody! I know now I need to eat more. I weighed at the nutritionist 's office today-ONE lousy pound!.. in over 1 1/2 weeks! whereas, I lost 10 pounds two weeks after surgery. The good thing is I go in for my first fill tomorrow-so at least I'll get a little restriction-finally!..lol.... But I didn't gain it in days, so I can't expect to lose it in days either! I LOVE this board!
18. Yep, great advice here. I didn't feel real restriction until mushies. I also didn't lose any weight in the first few weeks - I gained from the IV and long flights. It took a while to lose that. If you haven't heard it by now, make sure you're on a PPI that works well for you. It comes up so often because SO many of us experienced those hunger feelings and didn't realize it was acid until much later. It feels exactly like hunger and a lot of us have a freak out when it starts to be an issue. I thought my sleeve didn't work but in reality my Nexium wasn't cutting it and I needed to switch to Prilosec. The "hunger" disappeared two days later. I'm a slow loser. There are other folks on these boards that are super slow losers. Guess what? We're still losing. The fact is that this isn't a race and there's no prize for getting to goal faster than anyone else. Unless you give up completely, you're going to lose weight with this surgery. I'm learning that it doesn't really matter if you do it in 9 months or 19 months...you're going to love life at goal. The early weeks are the hardest. Hang in there. ~Cheri
19. Hi! I too have PCOS. It certainly makes losing weight harder. I've had PCOS for about 20 years, but was only diagnosed about 10 years ago. I'm 31 days post-op and I've lost 20 pounds all together. (Including pre-op). The hunger issue I think is mainly mental; however, cravings are still tough. I've determined that life is just not fair, and so I just deal with the PCOS as it comes. This works for me anyway. I know losing is going to be harder due to the PCOS, but I also work in the medical field and I know that weight lifting helps the most with buring calories and fat and adding muscle, which ultimately increases the metabolic rate. Good luck!
20. I have coffee 7 am and usually want a shake or protein bar at 10 am. I am usually not hungry before then. I also don't want to have to concentrate on eating when I am rushing in the morning. I need a hot coffee to open me up in the am.

22 Days Out (208#)

Well I had a scare there for a bit. On the 28th I lifted a watermelon and I pulled some muscels. On Monday of this week I felt really bad. It hurt to do just about anything that involved my left side. I took some meds. Lortab and I felt better while sleeping and yesterday I felt better then I had in a few days. It's even better today. NO MORE LIFTING FOR A LONG TIME!!!!!! The boys have been helping me lift or bend over to pick up things. The girs too. I'm still at the same weight. I guess that is good but bad. I think I'm going to do the fill next week. I wonder what would happen if I did a 5 or 10 day liquid again? I know it would work and I would hate it but.... Well see after the fill how things go. We've been working on the kitchen--the kids and--and things are looking better.
24. I'm 9 months out and have lost a total of 114 lbs (30 or so before surgery). It's very slow now... 2-3 lbs per month. The doctor said that's normal, but it's still hard to take after losing so much so fast! I need to step up my exercise a bit and see if that helps get me going. I'd like to lose at least 10 lbs more.
