    August surgery buddies!

I am on week 3 of a stall... I'm trying not to let it bother me. I have seen a few reset diets, I am thinking of trying one if I can't kick this in the next week.
  2. I kept losing well into my second year too. At my lowest I was 48.2kgs (was only there for a couple of weeks but …) & then I fluctuated between 48.5-49.5kg (about 18.9 BMI). I did that for about a 11 months & have been at about 50.5kgs for almost a year. (Am 3yrs 7 months out.) My dietician gave me some tips to up my calories before I stabilised so I’m glad you’re seeing your’s. Initually my surgeon & his associate were a little concerned when they looked at just the number on the scales but then they realised I’m ‘pretty small really’ (their words). Which is true as I’m not tall & am more finely built. They were then fine with my weight. Give yourself a little time to get used to your new body & your weight to stabilise & settle. Body dysmorphia will still be giving you a distorted picture of yourself as you compare yourself to the size you were before. It takes time for your head to catch up with the new reality of your size. I still get the occasionally shock when I realise the slim woman in the mirror or reflected in a window is actually me. And yes, bounce back regain of 10+/- lbs is a real possibility. You’ll work out what are your magic maintenance numbers are @pintsizedmallrat & it may not be 1500 calories because we have different needs & different weights we‘re most comfortable at. I thought 60kg & a BMI of about 23 would be great for me. But my body set me at a lower weight & I’m very happy with it. I was only eating about 1300 calories to maintain at the lower weight & about 1400 for the slightly higher weight now (have to eat more protein due to an absorption issue). But I’m not overly active & am 57 so that’s plenty of calories for me to maintain my smaller frame too. (I eat three meals & three snacks a day so eat heaps.) Oh & I get the clothing thing. I’m a US size 2 & sometimes a 0. There are stores here in Australia that don’t go smaller than a size 4. And there are ones where if they go to a 2 I’ll need a 0. (Still have largish feet for my height - 37.5-38). I’m about the size I was when I was 12. And yes I fit into Aust size 12 chn’s shorts. (My mum bought a pair for my niece & wondered if they would fit so asked me to try them on.)

    What am I doing wrong?

Hi heatherdbby! I feel I’m in the same spot you're in. I’ve lost 42 lbs including my pre- surgery weight loss. I stalled for almost four weeks before losing a couple of pounds and now I’ve stalled again. My surgery was Oct 13th. At my 6 week check up they said everything was right on track. However, it is so hard when you see posts on here talking about this amazing weight loss in short periods of time and then you look at yourself and can’t help but compare. I know we shouldn’t and that everyone is different, but it’s just really hard. I’m also starting the gym tomorrow so I’m hoping that will change things up a bit. I just try to remember when the last time I lost 42 lbs in two months and surprise-surprise, I can’t remember such a time. Lol
  4. I’m only five weeks out and I can already comfortably cross my legs like a woman instead of the wide cross-legs like a man I’ve been having to do for years. 😂

    December surgery

My surgery in 12/29 as well. On Friday I receieved a letter from Kaiser titled, "crisis standards of care declared by Portland hospitals." While they haven't cancelled any procedures yet, they may need to reschedule if the hospital can't accommodate me due to high numbers of patient's. Ugh, I have been in the program for 1 1/2 years and ready for my new journey! With that being said, I am hopeful and excited. I begin my 2 week liquid diet this coming Thursday and pray I do not become too crabby. Lol. Best wishes

    Right side pain

I'm 7.5 weeks out - gastric bypass. I still have a lot of diaphragm discomfort. Wearing a bra makes it worse. I think that wearing bottoms with a high or snug waistband, does too. My surgeon's office has referred me for an upper GI series. I reckon it will come back "normal". I think my problem is just what I've been wearing and the activity I've been doing.

    Macros…..

hi! im 4 years out too! (50 yrs old, female, 5'2", moderately active and weighed 119.2 this morning) i stopped basing my diet on macros a couple years ago, i mostly rely on calorie monitoring (i still track everything out of habit). Based on my data, i've been averaging about 60g protein a day, of course there are some days i have like 20 and other days when i have 150...but on average its about 60. I haven't noticed any significant relation to weight gain/loss with my protein intake. Nor any relation with fats or carbs for that matter. (carbs do seem to have an affect on my appearance, but that's another story). the only thing that affects my weight is number of calories consumed over time, and to a lesser degree, activity levels. so its been an ongoing tweaking process to balance the two. A couple years ago i was an exercise fiend, and was taking in 2500+ calories. Now i'm a 2-3 day a week casual exerciser and average about 1800. im sure if i didn't reduce my intake when my activity levels went down, i'd be 20-30 lbs heavier than i am today. For those keeping score, i've (so far) maintained below goal weight since i reached it at 7 mnths post op. FULL DISCLOSURE: i am in good health (as my most recent labs can attest), and i have no diagnosed medical issues that would affect my metabolism. @SpartanMaker summed up the science surrounding protein well enough that i dont need to add anything more, but i do want to highlight the point they raised about the fact that the body can only metabolize x amount of protein (the amount varies slightly from person to person), and that any excess protein will be stored for energy (i.e., fat if you dont use it up). So i wonder, did your team give you a scientific or medical reason as to why they object to your protein level intake? Also, did they offer an opinion as to how you would replace those protein calories to stay at 1500 over all? (more fat? more carbs?) While i would not recommend NOT listening to your team, i do advocate the asking of questions to get an understanding of the reasoning behind a recommendation so you can make an informed decision for yourself. Good Luck! ❤️
  9. I am 7 weeks out and I cannot tolerate most meats 😩 but at my pure state they told me once I am on my regular food stage which I am to try wte I wanted to see what my body would tolerate.
  10. Hello 👋 I am 7 weeks PO and my right side discomfort is still there. It started small and the discomfort increased. I don’t call it pain since it only happened when I get up from sitting or when I am sleeping and move side to side. I had a CT scan of my stomach and they said no leak when I went to the ER for dehydration. I called my surgery nurse and she said the pain is normal when I was 3 weeks out. Does anyone still have discomfort on their right side this far out?

Have you tried adding more calories? I thought I was hitting my first stall and without realizing was adding 50 calories per day, and after 3 days lost a pound. I have been doing good with food, not yet at 64oz of fluids, especially with the 30 min rule, that really becomes 1.5hrs without drinking a couple of times a day. Starting a walking routine tomorrow since I will be starting week 3, have a conference for 3 days so during the day would not walk much, hoping that will distract the 3 week stall. Either way will start weekly weigh ins after Tuesday. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I had surgery RNY February 2021. 300 lbs before — I am now 132 lbs 5’7” which is way too skinny in my opinion. My BMI is 20 (getting REAL close to 19). Honestly have a hard time eating even 1400 calories a day, too full! Everyone tells me “eat more” but of course I can’t. I have an appointment with dietician in a few weeks to assess. I want to stabilize, or gain back maybe 20 lbs but can’t seem to be able. Lost 10 lbs in the last 6 months so it’s a slow loss right now. But I am almost afraid to exercise for fear of losing more! Help!

    August surgery buddies!

After a stall for a while, my weight finally went down today and I'm 94.3 kilos, which is a little less than 208 pounds. It has become more likely that I'll meet my goal of 93 kilos (205 pounds) before the end of the year. That would meand that I'd lost 20 kilos even (44 pounds) since this summer. Of course, reaching 91 kilos (200 pounds) would be even better, not to mention 90 kilos (198 pounds). That would mean I was no longer technically obese and also at 90 kilos I'd weigh less than I did a decade ago. That's the next goal for the new year. But I'm happy to see the number on the scale moving again. I'm trying to get used to shorter hair, although I feel it makes me look older.

    macros during post op diet

I was told by dietician to not worry on calories, protein and water. But trend to fat tg and carbs 15g when you did select something. Eating 1/3 cup meat and top to 1/2 cup with cooked veggies, once in a while a small piece of baked potato. Have lost 40# in 6 weeks from day of surgery.

    Regrets ?

I am moving to regular food off off soft. I've tried garlic chicken mushroom pizza. Scraping it off the crust, measuring it to 1/3-1/2 cup. Just tried curry chicken, no rice...1/3 c chicken add curry sauce to 1/2 c total. I'm going to Indian buffet for lunch next week. No nan-bread. Plan on mostly meat and sauce add veggies, little potato. Seasonings warm like medium taco sauce is okay. I will eat my portion and take home the rest, probably 3 more meals.

    Before and After Pics

I started getting my energy back when I got to soft foods. I've never felt fatigue before. 3 weeks post op. I almost.legt my grocery cart at checkout and go home as I could barely stand up any more. Decided then to shop for a few things and checkout. Putting them away takes even more energy. So going back another day. Even next, gave me steps and I didn't get so fatigued.

Ugh, the 3 week stall is now extending well into week 4! I've gaining and losing the same 2 pounds since last Thursday 😭 Trying hard to trust the process... Hope everyone is doing well!
  20. I recently had a hiatial hernia tear. I had GERD before and after VSG. I am 12 years out. ( I am 66 years old, and my mother and grandmother had this issue also...) I had no idea, but wasn't feeling well. I work full time, and and fairly active - I garden, have chickens for fresh eggs, used to haul around 40 pounds of grain.... but couldn't the past few months. Go into my doctor, they did blood labs and sent me to the hospital. I needed 2 blood transfusions, and 4 days in the hospital to locate the bleeding... had endoscope and colonoscopy .... NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VSG. But i had also been taking meds for arthritis. So I had some gastric bleeding and the tear in the hiatus. After that I had iron infusion in the hospital and one each week for the next 6 weeks. I have been told not to take my oral iron, and next week I will be 3 weeks without iron infusions, so I go and get labs then. Will see if I can go without it or not. Meanwhile, I eat a ton of cooked (fresh spinach ) a week; and try to eat beef 3 time a week, to help it out. Will see how it goes. I go to an outpatient infusion clinic. The nurses are incredible and never miss my vein. and I am not an easy "stick". I get the 20 minute infusion and wait a half hour afterwards with a slow flush drip. Then I can go about my day.

    Food Before and After Photos

had my three girl friends over fir Christmas drinks & catch up. I always over cater & now my fridge is overflowing with leftovers. Sigh! Also have leftover bottles of champagne too which I don’t mind about. Made a baked Brie (baked with quince paste, vino cotto & served with toasted walnuts & fresh thyme). So delicious. Bought mushroom & fete, & spinach & feta quiche slices & some salads from Botanica who specialise in gluten free & vegetarian foods & vegan salads. (Did you discover them when you lived here @ms.sss?). The coffee pavlova with coffe cream & coffee drizzle was made by one of my girlfriends & another made the fruit salad. (Forgot to take some of the pxts before we started eating so they’re partially devoured.)
  22. I can't believe it. As of today, 7 months and 1 week since my surgery, I have officially lost 100 pounds!!!! I was 388 the day of my surgery. I cried this morning when I weighed myself. My next goal is to hit 270, which is what I weighed when I met my husband. After that, my last goal is to get to 200. Once I do that, I'll have to maintain it for a while and then SKIN SURGERY!!!!! There's no magic cure, no pill or food or drink that just magically makes the weight melt off. This is the result of the sleeve surgery, keto, working out 5-6 days per week (and alternating between cardio and weight training), and staying on track with what, and how much, I eat. No one thing works for me, it all has to be combined into a partnership for my mind and body. Surgery alone isn't enough. Keto alone won't work (at least it didn't for me). Working out by itself helps a little, but not enough. It ALL has to work together, and the key is to stay motivated and dedicated. Stalls suck, and they get frustrating. But as long as I keep my eyes on the prize, I'm actually gonna get there!!!! I never thought this was possible, but here I am

    August surgery buddies!

That's just great! Every week I take some more clothes to the thrift shop, and that continues even during a stall (like the last two weeks). And you're in the 100 club, too. Congrats!

    5day Gastric Sleeve Post op

More than craving, it was habit of eating, but that was gone by week 1. I still have leg cramps and tingling, I used to get them occasionally before surgery and sciatica pain, but it got worse since I was sitting and sleeping in the same position for a week. I use the heat pad before bed and when I walk a little more I only get it once or twice in the night time. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
