  1. One week post op and doing really well. I think I would be almost 100% but gas struck on Tuesday . I think I could walk to the moon and it woudn't help. Gas-x I'm not so sure about. But it will pass. I get to start soft foods tomorrow and regular food on 8/4/12. Had my first post op appointment yesterday and I am 7 lbs down. Lost 18 lbs pre op. Let me know how you are doing!! Have a fantastic weekend!! Stephanie
  2. Hey everyone! After thinking of weight loss surgery for over 2 years, I finally made the call last week for an appointment. They were able to get me in today! I am so excited but nervous as heck! I am needing a sleep study 😞 and an endoscope test. I do get to pass the 3 month dietary restriction due to my insurance requirements for BMI. It sounds like I need to lose 25 lbs before I can schedule surgery and possibly another 25 on the preop diet. (Which I am very nervous about failing). I broke down last week and told my husband, who encouraged me to make the call. I am so thankful he is on my side but I do not plan on telling any other family members. Please tell me I'm not the only one out there like this??

    Regrets?

I was sleeved on 8/17th the first week was a little tough but then it gets a whole lot better. just remember to drink your fluids. Best wishes!!
  4. I posted under a heading of transfered addictions earlier on another sight - the general one on here. I know i need to go on a 12 step type of program. Was going to get a note book and allow myself say $30 A WEEK to spend, if i dont spend it it adds up. Keep telling myself , or i should say asking myself do i really need it,or do i just want it as it is a good price, trying to turn from clothes food shopping to towels, sheets etc. Anyone out there had the same prob. Any advice ,reading material, etc. greatly appreciated.:confused:n
  5. I have never had any complications. If something tugs or pulls, it usually goes away pretty quickly. Now, it seems for the last week, my port has been hurting me. Either a tugging sensation, or just a sharp pain. Any ideas on what's causing this or more importantly - how do I made it stop? Thanks for your help.
  6. You can not drink out of a straw for 2 to 6 weeks because it will cause gas and believe me you will have enough of that after surgery. After the surgery you are going to need a lot of liquid such as soup broth, jello, ice pops ( all of these goodies should be sugar free) unless u are allergic of course. I keep a lot of fruit so i do not revert to old habits, also almonds are awesome. These treats are for after your diets is done. Strictly walking for the first 6 weeks. Do not attempt any other exercise because your body is very week and keep hydrated.. From personal experience is very easy to dehydrate. I was in the hospital for 5 days because I was so dehydrated but I also had a stomach bug. For the vitamins get them in the metalling because it goes in to your system and yes get chewable much easier. BJ or costcos have this really good shake that is awesome for u. i will get back to you on the name. Sorry slipping my mind. Sweatpants are the best or short like with a stretchy band . It all depends where your incision are placed. sometimes u can even wear jean and be comfortable and for work u should fine. just a lot of gas and some soreness. if you have any other questions send me an email at Cam5992@aol.com

    Please Help!!!!!

oK I'll start at the beginning I had my surgery in Aug. the day after my mouth and throat felt like a coating was building on my gums. Well this never got better finally went to pcp she said it was thrush. Well I took 3 different meds over the last 6 weeks and this gross stuff never went away. Finally I got fed up throat and mouth so sore I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a bacterial infection! This had to have come from the surgery it is just to coincidental that it started within hours after my surgery. Now I am on antibiotics and they are a large capsule. I opened them and put the powder in juice and once in ice cream to hide the taste. OMG they are absolutely digusting making my gag and almost vomit. Can I take a capsule normally I dont think I can keep doing the open thing. I asked pharmacy about a liquid she said that is awful and has a very foul odor and most people gag and can't tolerate it. Please help I just want to swallow the capsule but I'm terrified of it getting stuck. Any suggestions please I'm desperate. Lisa.

    Just Banded

I wish I was able to say I did so well after surgery. I had what people might consider to be a horror story. I was so close to an emotional and physical breakdown. I was banded on 4/1. Surgery took 1 1/2 hours and almost went from laparoscopic to open method. I was unable to keep ANY food or water down for 11 days. During that time, I lost 30 lbs. Yep...30 lbs in 11 days! I was admitted at the hospital twice for dehydration and scoped a total of three times before my second surgery on 4/11. Luckily, all it took was to push my band up a little. Now, looking back, I still don't regret my decision. Although I'm still recovering from two surgeries now and have more pain and discomfort associated with last week's surgery, I'm so happy with my new band. I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone, but I know it'll be worth it. All the guys at this site really helped me through perhaps THE roughest time in my life. For that, I will always be grateful.
  9. :confused:I am new to the site and am scheduled for surgery in 1.5 weeks. I did my pre-op and am really second guessing whether or not to do this. I don't know if I am ready to be so worried about ..."did I chew that enough, is this too big of a bite, and is this going to get stuck." And I am really worried about getting in the healthy foods like whole grain food...which many seem to have trouble with and fresh fruits and vegi's, which I have also heard many struggle with. And how much can you actually eat in a sitting....a 1/4 C or 1/2 C or more???? I don't want to end up limited to canned fruits and vegis which have far less nutrients and processed meats instead of healthy cooked lean ones due to dryness, and no whole grains due to breads and Pasta and rice being troublesome. Can anyone shead some light on the fact vs fiction of all this. Also I heard on gal say that at family get togethers she eats after everyone else to make sure that she eats slow enough and thoughtful enough to not get that dreaded stuffed stoma feeling???? and, i am super paranoid of being able to feel the device during excersizes, like pilates or crunches or twists, and of course sex.???!!! thanks....

    Xenadrine

I lost 4lb in a week a good few times and 3lbs a week on a regular basis not taking xenadrine . Try doing this journey without drugs.. the band likes to be in charge good luck !
  11. Hello Fellow Sleevers!! I have been reading for a while but never really thought I had anything to say. I had my sleeve surgery on September 4. I had an allergic reaction to pain killers and was sick for a while. I proceeded to be sore from vomiting and very weak for my first two weeks. I followed my diet and drs instructions like a good little girl. On day 14 I started pureed foods and started having problem vomiting. It's been pretty steady and bad. Still felt weak. Frustrated. Fighting a depression. Wondering why? A few days ago I believe I turned a corner. My spirit is coming back. I have returned to work after 20 days. I am finally eating on a regular schedule. And being on a schedule has made it easier to drink more liquids. I am excited to get more gym time. I finally feel like myself. My husband said my confidence is coming back. That made me very happy. Just wanted to let you know that if you get feeling down because of lack of energy, nausea, or depression....just keep going and you can turn a corner too:)

    Gas!

I was three days out but I wasn't sleeping on my side I was more so laying on my side for five minutes and then switching. It sounds weird but the thing that helped the most was being on my knees with a pillow tucked under my stomach and kind of going into a ball haha. My mom who is a nurse recommended me doing that and I thought it would hurt but it actually felt a lot better. Just do what you can tolerate though. It gets better!
  13. I had my surgery one month ago. I lost like 22 pounds in two weeks, which didn't surprise me because I am a big girl but since I started on puréed foods in week three I haven't lost an ounce of weight. Is a two week stall normal in the first month. I am only eating two ounces of mushy proteins two times a day and my two protein shakes, between 400- 600 calories. Any suggestion? Should I go back to broths?

    Exercise

I started exercising as soon as the doctor cleared me , I began walking everyday and then 12 weeks later I joined the gym .
  17. I felt no restriction after my surgery. None after the first or second fill either. It took three fills for me to feel any different... and boy that third fill has made a BIG difference!!! It is hard to keep eating what you are supposed to without restriction... but it will get better. "Eat what you should... not what you could" - that was my motto. Everyone is different and you will see that there really isn't any "normal". Good luck to you and hang in there!!! Becky
  18. I was banded on 1/28/09 and for the first few days I could feel some restriction when I ate, now I really dont feel any. Yes I get fuller quicker than if I had never had the surgery but I really don't feel a whole lot different. I bet you I could any just about anything I wanted to, not that I have but I really believe I could and I get hungry alot more than I expected. Is this normal and will things get better after I have had my first or second fill?? I also do not feel I am losing the way I thought I would the first couple weeks being that you really arent eating much. Can the banded please help with some feed back?
  19. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago, I have had 1 fill. I've lost 17 lbs so far. I joined the gym and go 5 days a week. I'm glad I have lost weight, but would liked it to be more. But I know we didn't gain it fast so its a slow process and I'm OK with that now. I do have one very confusing question. Since my fill I have noticed more food gets stuck so I believe I am tighter, but I still believe I can eat more then 4 oz of food, I don't know how much more maybe a few times I had 5 or 6 oz but never the meals I would have ever eaten before not even a quarter of what I ate before.I do not have the urge to vomit or feel over stuffed.I am never hungry between meals. So does this mean I need a fill again now because I can fit more in , even though I'm not hungry.OR Am I supposed to have both restriction right at 4 oz of food and not feel hungry between meals?

    I am stumped!

Now I realize why you are asking this question, because it is the same question I asked myself 1-2 months out where I was starving. (It was also the same question I asked myself dozen's of times over the years before banding when I kept deciding to give it one more shot the old fashioned way) You are in bandster hell of course and becoming depressed is natural. We have all been there, or will get there in the future. A lot of us have read something about it before we got there, but you don't realllyyy understand it until you have lived it. It is a miserable time where you doubt yourself, doubt your band, doubt everything. It is true, your band is not really helping you at this phase. I stalled out on weight loss for several weeks at this point. The only way I could get it going again was to cut out processed carbs. I ate only lean meats and vegetables with limited fruit and was able to start moving downwards on the scale again. I did not lose much from a few weeks out from surgery through my first fill. My first fill brought me down a few pounds quickly. However, what little restriction I felt was gone within a week. I started stalling again and had to really start exercising regularly to keep a downward movement on the scale. I could keep losing, but I was losing super slooowwww. However, as long as I kept losing even a little, I wasn't so depressed. Then came fill #2. This was a real kick in the pants for me. I was pb'ing everyday for the first week and a half and had decided on an unfill. Then I realized that the problem was me eating too fast & not chewing enough. I also was not going on liquids for a day after a pb to let my stomach rest. I started eating more like a bandster and found this fill gave me great restriction, and I cancelled my appointment for a slight unfill. I have not had to get another fill since as of yet and I am still losing steadily around 1.5 pounds a week on average. When I was in bandster hell, every day was a supreme struggle. Now, it has become more easy because my tool is working with me. Once you are at the right fill level, you can find success as well as long as you follow bandster rules and eat healthy foods the majority of the time. You can also lose weight at this stage as well. Low carb worked well for me. I didn't restrict volume so much, only certain types of foods. Exercise also worked for me. What kinds of foods are you eating? Are you tracking them by calories and Protein? What are you doing for exercise?

    Anybody on here Jump Rope???

While your healing, I wouldnt advice it. I just had my band last week, and when I am walking up or down stairs I can feel the stitches moving
  22. I agree on the fills and how each one is like a new paradigm. My last one was last Friday the 11th. #6 for me. So, now foods that passed easily a week ago, get stuck or fill me much quicker. It appears as though this one might place me in the green zone and I'm very excited to see better results. tmf
  23. well, my experience so far is. im now coming up 2 months post op. ive lost weight steadily the whole time. Ive found that i never had a time where there was no restriction. i did get hungry towards the time for my first fill but Ive consistently had issues with eating meat. Last wednesday i had my first fill. im now a week out from that, and its hard to eat a small serve of fish or read meat. Has anyone had this a week after being filled? the way it is right now , if this problem doesnt ease up i wont be getting any more fills. i have 3 ccs in a 10 cc band. im loving the way the weight is going. its steady as she goes . my energy levels are up and im enjoying life a lot more. I have to say though, im losing the enjoyment of food , and cooking is becoming a chore for me. i did read here where someone else was the same. How many of your are going through this?? not enjoying food and finding that cooking is a hassle??
  24. This is a good place to start: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1055-pur%C3%A9e-stage-2/ Also try the search box in the upper right for "pureed foods" "pureed recipes" "favorite purees" -- stuff like that. It's a pretty frequently discussed topic. I'm lazy so I am just going to copy and paste an earlier post I made: I was on full liquids for four weeks after surgery (and true liquids, not this "yogurt is a liquid, pudding is a liquid" stuff). So after four weeks of that, pureed meat tasted great to me! The trick for me was to puree it with a flavorful sauce, NOT broth, stock, or water -- then heat it up in the microwave with some cheese melted on top. It tasted just like a casserole type dish. I mostly used canned meats, or the meat you can buy in the little single serving pouches. The flavored ones were especially good. Some of my favorites: thai spicy tuna pureed with sriracha sauce and pepper jack cheese melted on top chicken pureed with bbq sauce with cheddar cheese melted on top lemon dill salmon pureed with tartar sauce shrimp pureed with remoulade and pecorino cheese melted on top turkey pureed with peanut satay sauce and jack cheese melted on top chicken pureed with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese melted on top turkey pureed with light chipotle mayo and sugar free pickle relish and Laughing Cow chipotle fresco cheese wedge melted on top teriyaki salmon pureed with teriyaki sauce (I don't recommend cheese with this but if I had to, I might try some blue cheese) Good luck!
  25. Your journey dietarily was like mine, on soft solids at about 4 weeks out and no diarrhea. In fact I was still taking stool softeners at that point. It does sound more like a virus than something behavioral but you can get dumping syndrome so check the amount of sugar from your day's eating to see if you had more than usual. Same thing with lactose, some develop intolerance post op.
