I found that the early stages (clear liquid and liquid) were the hardest. There were two times that I had an actual melt down with tears flying everywhere because I wanted to eat. However once I moved to soft foods I realized it was all in my head. My taste had changed so much and I didn't have an appetite so the idea of eating was more appealing than the act itself. For me the emotional part came and went really quick maybe over 2 weeks at the most. Good luck with whatever you choose.

My insurance requires the 6 month process before surgery. In the beginning I was upset that I would have to spend another half year struggling with what I've struggled with my entire life. I'm three months into the process coming up on my fourth visit. While I still want the surgery to happen yesterday I've learned so much from my visits with the doc and nutritionists. I have already started making changes such as cutting out carbonated drinks, eating foods that are better for me and so on. Not saying I do it perfect I certainly do not but it's a learning process an idea of what my future will be like after WLS. There are days now that I'm unbearable, I have mood swings, I can get grouchy. That's just part of me being human. My desire to be thinner, healthier and more active completely out weigh my fears of staying where I'm at. My thoughts... make a pros and cons list what out weighs your choices? Only you know. Do as much research as you can so you know exactly what you're getting into. And no matter what you decide all that matters is that you're comfortable with your choice. Good Luck!!!

Everyone is different. You are still healing and learning during this time, so don't get discouraged if you are not losing much weight. I was not in the normal in this phase as i lost 18 pounds in the first 2 weeks after surgery. But you have to keep in mind that i was over 300 pounds. I think my body was in shock that it was not getting any food. At least on the preop diet, we were allowed one healthy meal per day. And, yes, usually the heavier you are, the more you might lose at first. After those 2 weeks, my weight loss subsided for a few weeks, then picked back up. Just remember that everyone is different and you WILL Lose!!! Good luck!! :cursing:

Anybody Else's Dietician Make Them Feel Like Crap?
mrsmyers2010 replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is one other dietician there I was thinking about switching to, but her office is literally right next to this other girls office so it might be kind of awkward. I'm suppose to see this dietician for follow up 6 weeks after surgery so I was thinking it might be too late to switch, since she's the one who gave me my instructions on what to do for surgery.. -
Just finished my first week, can't wait to finish week two... get to eat mushie stuff then. A loud Texas WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO to that! I'm getting excited about cleaning out the closet, but it just feels good to put on some clothes and I have room to move. They're not big yet, but much more comfortable.

What's Normal after surgery?
OnMyWay2Thin replied to daebbs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everything that you are feeling is normal as far as I'm concerned. Why do I say that? Because I went through the exact same feelings you are going through. I was banded 9/3/08 and feel fantastic now. I remember thinking what the heck did I get myself into! Don't worry, these feelings will go away and you will be feeling great soon. I'm down 26 pounds and am really happy with the way I feel and am finding it pretty easy to accommodate my band when I go out to eat with my family. I don't break any rules and am still able to enjoy a restaurant. So, give it a few more weeks and you'll feel so much better. Good luck with everything! -
Banded 1 week ago- questions
Guest replied to georgiagal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As the swelling goes down and you heal you will become hungrier. Whatever you do follow your doctor's instructions. The first six weeks are for healing - let your body do that. Make sure you check with your doctor tomorrow about an issues you may be insure about. We all recover differently and have different issues. I hate to use the word issues...but everyone heals differently and has different reactions to the surgery. Take it easy, rest and when you are able slowly start moving again. Stay hydrated. Good luck and congratulations! -
Banded 1 week ago- questions
Mocha75 replied to georgiagal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 1 week ago tomorrow and I haven't experienced what you're experiencing but I will have this pain on the left side of my stomach. This happens mostly in the evenings but also at night and it wakes me up. I know this is only the first week so I've been writing all my questions down for my doctor. I will see him again on 12/29. -
Anybody Else's Dietician Make Them Feel Like Crap?
mrsmyers2010 replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think she said she wants to see me on a regular basis, like every 6 weeks but I'm not sure that's even necessary. I guess it would be good for 'accountability' but not with her attitude, lol. I'm just going to stick it out for the one more post-op appointment with her and then hopefully I won't need her 'guidance' any longer. If I ever do feel like I need some again, I'll simply go to someone else. I think I forgot to mention she's quite young, probably my age or a little older maybe (22+) and she's probably never weighed more than a whole 125 pounds her whole life..so it is what it is -
When can I resume exercise?
mon_jam74 replied to Shannon82's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First off, check with your surgeon. I'm finding on these boards that everyone is given different orders from their surgeons. However, mine said I could only walk or use a stationery bike for the first 3 weeks. Start walking in the hospital and continue to walk at least 30 min/day once you've gone home. I added the stationery bike during the second week. At 3 weeks, I was given the green light for any and all exercise. I'm 4 weeks out and in the second week of couch to 5k 3 days a week and the elliptical the other 4 days. I worry about strenuous ab exercises, but my surgeon says I'm fine. -
Hey everyone! I am almost 3 months post op sleeve and down 60 lbs, woo hoo! I was just curious when other sleevers noticed that their weight loss stopped? 12 months? 18? Only 6? I am still hoping to lose a lot more and I am currently in a stall, so I need reassurance that I will still lose! Thanks everyone!

Hello I'm new to the forum! I went from the lap band to sleeve one week ago because I lost absolutely no weight with the band. My band was done by Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez, Mexico and by sleeve was done by Dr. Mario Almanza in Tiajuana. I must say the sleeve already seems like a much better fit than the lap band as I have already lost 5 pounds! However, i wonder when will the pain end? When I drink anything other than water right now, I get a pain in the top part of my stomach. Is that normal? It feels a little scary to me even though the doctor said that its normal. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping its just my stomach healing and it will get easier day by day.

Band to Sleeve.. Need help!
lovely momma replied to TRusso1188's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a slipped band. I had it replaced and it never worked right again. After that the doctor told me they usually do not give good restriction the second time. I wish he had told me that to start with. I had a second slip and had it removed. I now have the sleeve. Weightloss is very slow with the sleeve for me. I have lost eight pounds in 21 days. I am in a stall so I am not sure where I will end up. -
Do a search of all the boards on this site and look for threads with this issue as the subject...... quickly this was my reason. I have two RL close friends that both had the RNY one is 4 years out and one is 2. Friend that is 4 years PO has gained back almost all of the 120 lbs she lost because she never suffered from the Dumping and could eat anything. She is horrible about taking her vitimins and subsequently suffered a lot of depression mostly due to regaining her weight after all the money and crap she went through......... she is considering getting banded now. Friend 2, has lost over 120lbs and just had a tummy tuck and boob lift and looks awesome. She stays away from the dumping foods and has done extremely well.................. I knew RNY wasn't for me because... 1. I want all my innards to stay intact and there if I need them later in life. 2. Taking 4-6 weeks off work is not an option, with my band I had surgery on Thursday and was back to my desk job on Monday. My boss has no clue as I just took 2 days of PTO and that was it. 3. My issue is portion control, and I want to be able to get a fill 1, 2, 10 years down the line if I see myself being able to eat to much, where as with the RNY you CAN restretch your pouch 4. Insurance paid for it. 5. It can be unfilled in times of medical need or pregnacy 6. Any general surgeon can remove it in an emergency.. vs the bypass which is forever. To answer the weight question... Just do a search for BOO, JulieinNYC, Neal )OUsooner, and many many many others they have lost well over 100 lbs and in some cases over 200 lbs... My doc says average weight loss is 1-3 pounds per week........ so that is 52-150+ in a year........ and in my book that is fast enough Good luck in whatever decision you make. Afterall it is YOUR journey and no one elses.

Banded 05/2008 Tampa FL
2GoodDogs replied to Doberman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sort of where you are. 1 fill that didn't do anything for me. I've even gained a pound or two, and I'm hungry and eating more than I'd like. Looking forward to the next fill, but that's 4 weeks away. Trying hard to eat on the South Beach plan, avoid eating out - and like you have a jungle to tame. Dam blasted mower, I couldn't start it so junked it and bought an electric. Can start that one, but man that electric cord is a pain... Maybe I should trade the dogs for goats. LOL... -
Hello everyone  I've had my band for approximately 2 years. The weight lost has been slow. When I started I weighed about 250 and went down to 172 and still losing. I did not have an adjustment for awhile. When I finally went in for an adjustment I was shocked to find out that I had a dilation of the band. Instead of my band being filled my band was deflated and I was told to come back in 6 weeks to see if it repaired itself. In between that visit I gained 13 pounds. My doctor informed me that my band would have to be repaired or possible change to gastric by pass. I see my doctor on 9/25/09 for consultation and he will discuss my options. I'm so distruaght. Part of me have been considering the gastric sleeve or bypass to lose the quickly and move on with my life. I feel this is such a set back. Yes....it's obvious that I'm very upset over this but I'm determine at what ever choice is made. With a deflated band I have this horrendous appetite. I've been trying to control it but it's difficult. I think this whole ordeal and setback is messing with my head. I would not suggest getting rid of the band if you have not managed your eating disorder. I'm not ashamed to admit that I need the support of the band. Terry

Just wanted to introduce myself. I was banded 12/27 and tomorrow will make 4 weeks since then. As of today, I'm down 17 lbs from the weigh in the morning of surgery. I had the iLap procedure (with stomach plication). My co-workers and most of my family have been very supportive (with the exception of my mother in law). What I have come to realize is that a positive mental attitude is key. I've changed my entire outlook on eating. Not as a thing to socialize at, or do when bored, but as something to provide nutrients for my body. I may have gone a bit overboard, but I now eat organic as much as possible and make sure I have my daily vitamins and protein. I'm working out 4-5 times a week starting off slow and building up. No one can go in from being a couch potato and expect to get on the treadmill for an hour. I started with 20 minutes have worked out up 30 and added weights to help tone up. Any other workout suggestions would be great. I'm so glad to have found a place with others in my situation.

What exactly are stage 2 foods??
Tomander replied to Mrs. Estrada's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was giving a 4 stage Post Op plan to follow 1 week Clear liquids 1 week Full Liquids 1 week Mushie Foods 1 week Solid to "Normal" foods Were you not given a menu plan to follow by your doctor? Don't rush into "normal" foods. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 160 lbs -
I have been waiting to be banded for 10 months. Finally last week I had my surgery. It has been 7 days and I am so glad it's done. I was a little sore at first and the liquid diet is hard at times. I feel pretty good now, just a little soreness on my left side (I hope that is normal). I go back to the Dr. in 2 days and hopefully will move up to full liquids. The truth is recovery has not been that bad and whenever something is hard--like not being able to bend over to pick up something or other people eating in front of me -- I just think about how I will look and feel in a few months. This is one of the best decisions of my life and I can't wait to start living!

I am doing great. Down 26pds ans have 20 more to go. I had 3 cormobidities and for my height and BMI my insurance approved me. I am as of next Wednesday off all meds. So it has been soooo worth everything. I just had my first fill 2 weeks ago and not sure it has restriction as much as I thought but I am stable on weight and not gaining. How are you doing?

New, First Post, Saying Hi. :)
sunfunmash replied to TapSnap's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you! I am just beginning-although I've been thinking about it for prob a year.... I've gone to their seminar, and been to a support group and got alot of good answers there. Tonight I'm fillling out my paperwork and next step is consult w/the doctor-then psych, nutritionist and I'm off for the surgery!! What are your major concerns about this? I think mine might be what I will be eating after the surgery-I've heard we may not have anything but liquids/shakes/broths for up to a month and one report said it may be up to 12 weeks!!! Wha??? Is that true? I'm sure I can ask the doc when I go for my consult, but just wondering if you knew?? Also I'm alittle concerned about staying hydrated- have you heard anything about that? Thanks, Leigh Ann -
How long has it been stopped? You are likely in a stall. If it is a stall, just keep plugging along and it will pass. May take 3-4 weeks, might be less.
