Kimba Maria Wiggins posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I normally eat every 2 hours...but should I be eating that frequently? I'll take 2 Tbsp of yogurt and I'm done. -
2 week Post op Liquid diet.
RickM replied to BuffaloBill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is tough, even for those of us who weren't obliged to do a strictly liquid diet and could do soft things, we're still doing a lot of liquidy things because that's what's tolerated initially, Though I could do some yogurt and eggs, I still got awful tired of soups and protein jello and couldn't stand the thought of them for a couple of years. -
I keep it simple. I use the Bariatric Pal multi with iron - 1 per day, along with an extra B-12. That is with breakfast. With yogurt fruit bowl in the evening, I take Calcium citrate and Vit D3. That's it. It's economical and my levels are fine. I think you need to just stick to a routine for at least a few months and then see how your levels are.

Which Food Plan After Lapband?
Astrasmom replied to michelleintheoc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed 4-5 oz of food at every meal and 2 Protein shakes. I eat alot of fish and chicken, all natural Peanut Butter (not alot because of the calories), Fat Free ricotta cheese, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt,be sure you pick foods that are higher in protein. It will help you through what they call "Bandsters Hell" I was on of the lucky ones that didn't go through it because I eat the higher protein and it kept me full. Banana's are also good. -
I see all this talk about Protein poweders and I know right after surgery you really can't eat thick foods, but later on, why can't you eat greek yogurt to get most of your protein. I love Fage 0% total greek yogurt. 1 cup has 23 gms of protein. Just wondering. I hate powdered drinks. But going out tomorrow to GNC to get a few samples of some to try them out before my surgery. Thanks for any info.

Greek Yogurt Protein question
AMG replied to Texasmom65's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The RDA of Protein for an average weight women ages 19-50 is ~50 g. Since most of us are on high protein and low carb diet, you may need more than 50 grams of protein. So this means, you would need 2 cups of greek yogurt daily just to reach the amount set by RDA. Moreover, I doubt it that you would be able to finish 4 oz of Greek yogurt in the first 6 months after surgery. It takes me half an hour to finish 6 oz of GY and I'm almost 5 months out of surgery. Therefore, you need to get used to drinking Protein drinks in the first few months after surgery. I don't recommend pre-made drinks for two reasons (1) Big in size (11 - 17 oz) to me that's torture; pre-made drinks are not the most amazing thing to drink. (2) They tend to be thick in texture: so a few sips and you feel full for hours and therefore you don't get your daily protein. What I recommend is a whey Protein Isolate powder and a chocolate syrup (I personally use unsweetened cocoa powder). You put 8 oz of cold Water, a scoop of protein and 1/2tbsp of cocoa powder and shake everything in a Protein Shaker. The final result is in liquid form and very close to water in viscosity. I can finish it in about 15 minutes. GL -
you can do it just be motivated. i had to do the six month dietian classes. that was april08 the dietian nurse says i had to prove to the insurance that i could lose the weight. that what motivated me. i started my practice early with the clear liquids chicken broth, beef broth light&fit yogurt cottage cheese sugarfree jello she had me on a high protien&low carb dinner but i cut out all the junk.at the last weigh in that was sept08. i had lost 27lbs.then i had to wait three more months before my surgery an during that time i lost another 20lbs.that was 40lbs before surgery. i did not have to do a pre-op.i was 324lbsin the beginning. at surgery i was 285, today i am at 260.an monday i go for my fourth fill. sorry this is so long. but hang in there you can do it.

Discouraged. Slipped band.
needtorecover replied to Lapbandgirl72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First thing you have to do is stop the binging. Are you able to take time off work? That may help with doing the liquid diet. If you're able to lay around your house and not have to worry about anything it'll be easier to stick it out. If you want to save your band, I strongly advise you listen to your doctor. Remind yourself that it's just a week. I'm sure it feels good to binge but it's self-destructive behavior. Go to the store, stock up on protein shakes, broths, and yogurt smoothies and tough it out for 7 days. Then move on to mushies, and then try to eat your lap band diet the next week, and then see your doctor. Otherwise you're just going to go back to the way you were before. It's unfortunate for us but once you're obese your body will do whatever it takes to get that fat back. It's not a matter of pure willpower. That's why we needed help in the first place. But you can do 7 days. That's all it is. Just a week. Take it day by day and you'll get through it. -
I don't see why not - I used to mix in some of the unflavored whey isolate as it cooled. I never tried mixing in the yogurt but that sounds like a good alternative/addition if one isn't restricted to clear liquids at the time.

When you make yogurt, the probiotic bacteria eat up the lactose in milk and form yogurt. That's why plain yogurt is so sour... because the bacteria have eaten all the sweet lactose! This is how you can tell the difference between lactose intolerence and an actual milk allergy. Lactose intolerent people can have yogurt. Milk allergy sufferere cannot.

For those of us who believe in a Higher Power, God, Jesus Budah whomever, try this. Print this prayer on business cards and stick them here there and everywhere. In the car, in your wallet, in the bathroom or on the fridg. My good friend who was banded on 11/1/2005 gave it to me. Dear God, I surrender my body and my weight loss to your divine care and love. I ask that you remove all excess unnecessary weight from my body. Return mybody to it’s most healthy and balanced state. Give me eating habits that support my health and life energy, and finally, teach me to love my body and to care for it from this day forth. Amen I know it when I read it I stop... I might eat, I might eat better or sometimes I say "Drink some more water" LOL That and another tip Lynn gave me... eat with a baby spoon it slows ya down... now it's like a love affair with my yogurt... oooooo LOL any hoo just something I would Share! Good Luck to you all! Just Keep Swimming!!!

considering going vegetarian, need some advice
BLERDgirl replied to pookybear's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I am vegetarian and deathly allergic to seafood. Highly processed foods tend to trigger my allergies. My Protein comes from Beans, tofu, seitan, dark green veg, grains, nuts, dairy (mostly cheese and yogurt) & eggs. I don't drink/like cow's milk, but I do eat greek yogurt. I prefer FAGE 0%. I also supplement with whey Protein powder. It takes being creative, but I have no problem keeping my protein between 85 - 100 gms. My carbs are often high, but as long as they aren't coming from "white" or heavily refined sources I don't worry about them. I am also allergic to artificial sugars and stevia. I don't often add sugar to my foods. I do eat fruit several times a week. When I do add sugar use either real sugar or raw honey. At 10mths I keep my calories between 800 - 1000 a day and work out 5 - 6 days a week. @@pookybear - You could try having Meatless Monday's with your boyfriend. Look for meaty textures like portabello mushroom and filling grains like quinoa and farro. -
Anyone else close to being under 300lbs????
auntlucy replied to Tess415's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are doing great TXdiva! Keep up the good work and let us know how your visit goes. Russ, I was still on low fat creamed Soups, sugar free pudding, yogurt, etc. during my 3rd week. -
I'm seven days out and lost 8 lbs. Make sure you are drinking fluids and drinking your protein shakes. Are you still on any pain meds? If so, that could be the reason why you are constipated. I am consuming 4 oz of protein for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Between those times, I am drinking water or Propel water zero and eating high protein yogurt. Good luck! Continue to walk around as much as possible as this will make your digestive track kick up again.

Still struggle with binging mindset
Little Green replied to Monasmle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Great post, @Monasmle! I really appreciate you sharing how you got through that struggle. I totally understand the feeling you were having during that 3-hour back and forth with yourself. Oftentimes I experience this around lunchtime b/c I used to eat fast food lunch every single day and of course I am pre-op so if I wanted to I definitely could eat it, no problem. I fight with myself and end up waiting hours to eat until I am finally hungry enough that nuts or cheese or yogurt sounds tasty lol. I think I'll try to incorporate your tactic next time. -
Letty's journey post-op
Rdsegobia replied to Rdsegobia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would like to start posting more on the food I eat now at 9 months out. This is what I had yesterday: 5:10am 1/2 banana and 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter 6:30am coffee with Splenda and fair life milk (this is the reason I couldn't keep dr Weiner diet) I really need my coffee and it needs to be with Splenda and milk. 9:00 3 egg whites with turkey sausage, veggies, and cheese 11:30am premier chocolate Protein shake and 1 cup of veggies 2:00pm coffee again and nuts 5:30pm 1 cup of fage Greek yogurt 0% with a crystal light packet. 7:00pm watermelon and some more nuts I haven't been tracking my food in my fitness pal! I guess I need to. My weight is still at 169-170. I bumped up my exercise a lot more this past week and have every intention on keeping up with exercise. What I found out that is much easier if I do the exercise in the morning - get it out if the way as early as possible . So far within the past 8 days I have done 4 boot camp classes and one Zumba and walked on the treadmill 2 times for 45min. I hope I start seeing the scale move, however I will be happy as long as I feel good and see that my clothes fit better! Hope everyone have a great day! -
So I eat a LOT of Greek yogurt, but there's only a handful of flavors that I like and you gotta admit, eating the same 3 flavors day after day for breakfast and sometimes lunch gets a bit redundant. I have heard that mixing a 5.3oz package of Greek Yogurt with 1/4 package of sugar free jello pudding makes a yummy snack, especially if you are having a sweet tooth craving. I think I'll try this, but from what I've read it turns the Greek yogurt into a mousse almost, light and fluffy in texture, but not as bitter, so for everyone who doesn't like Greek Yogurt because of the bitter aftertaste, this may be for you! I also read that some people freeze the mixture to make a type of healthier high protein ice cream. I just found a recipe for mixing blended banana into a cup of greek yogurt, add a bit of lemon juice, and a bit of honey and freeze to make pops. Has anyone tried any of this?? Or have any suggestions for healthy high protein snacks?? For lunch today I took a slice of turkey breast, a slice of provolone cheese, and a pickle and made rolls with them because I can't handle bread on my sandwiches it fills me up too quickly. I think tomorrow I'll try a piece of avocado with the turkey and cheese. Night all!

2 weeks after surgery & I can eat anything
MimIN replied to ratgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too am just about two weeks out and am starving. I have introduced cottage cheese, humus and yogurt and at no point do I feel satisfied or 'full'. My stomach is always growling and I too was wondering if a fill is possible before the 6 week mark. -
What do you eat each day?
vickyd replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a typical day for me: Breakfast - 1/2 cup egg beaters, 1 slice 2% American cheese, 1 turkey sausage patty (scrambled with Pam) other common breakfasts are: greek yogurt, oatmeal (1pkg made with light soy milk), or a Protein shake (if I'm tight in the morning or in a hurry) lunch - 3-4 oz lean protein, 1/2 cup non-starchy veggies (usually leftovers from dinner) other common lunches are: frozen meatballs with low sugar marinara sauce or 1 cup salad with 3-4 oz protein. dinner - same as lunch for the most part. Snacks - Lately, I have found that I am having trouble getting in enough calories each day (1,000-1,100) so I usually add 2 snacks each day even though I'm not hungry. My normal morning and afternoon snack are normally either light string cheese or babybel light cheese. -
This thread is like my new food porn, lol. Thankfully I'm feeling like a tbsp of refried beans and a dollop of Greek yogurt will do it for me in another week or so when sleevie is ready. But, oh the fantasizing is brilliant

Nom Nom Nom - Yasso Greek Froz Yog Bars - 6g prot & 80 cal
NMJG posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Just tried these - awesome snack with protein that makes you feel guilty it tastes so good, and it's easy on the sleeve regardless of where you are in your journey. 6 g Protein 80 calories 14 carbs 1 fat Yasso brand Greek Frozen Yogurt bars - I tried coconut. Yum! Tastes like coconut ice cream. They come in other flavors, too. Found them in my grocery store freezer section (Smith's). I wouldn't eat these every day to fill my protein needs, but for the occasional snack that tastes divine and still is weightloss friendly, this will do the trick. No, I'm not affiliated with Yasso -
Are there other vegetarian/vegan sleevers?
PixelToph replied to MicahD's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Hi! I am doing great still, down over 220 lbs from my highest weight (434 lbs, now 207), and still a vegetarian. I still try to keep my diet as protein-heavy as possible, using veggie "meats," cottage cheese, eggs, greek yogurt, and Protein shakes made with unsweetened almond or soy milk. Going back to meat was never an option for me. I haven't eaten it in over 20 years, so I wasn't about to start lol The amount of food I can eat greatly depends on what it is. Denser stuff like eggs I can't eat a lot of, but when I do have salad or veggies, I can eat more. Still nowhere near the typical amount for a vegetarian, I'd bet, but it is still nice to have a salad on occasion. One pleasant surprise is that I still enjoy food and eating. In fact, probably more so since I savor every bite. Before surgery, I ate lots, all day long. Now, it doesn't take much food to satisfy me, so I make sure every bite is as tasty as possible! Getting the sleeve was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I thought I was a relatively "healthy" person at 400 lbs (no comorbidities aside from very mild sleep apnea) but I didn't realize just how much my weight was holding me back until it was gone. Besides the obvious finding clothing (size 34 pants down to 14/16, shirts 5x to XL), it is just generally easier to do everything. I'm even jogging now, slowly working up to a 5k. Good luck on your journey! It can be tough at times, especially in the very beginning. But it is SO worth it! -
protein drinks opinions
******** replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its for the first two weeks I'm dreading it but basically its clear liquids all day plus the shakes3x then week 3 I'm adding in eggs, yogurt, cottage chesse and something else lol dont remember what, week 4 I add in fish, week 5 chicken and turkey, week 6 beef..and I can eat anything that I ate the previous weeks. Not quite sure actual amounts have it written down. Its so odd how surgeons differ. I have no pre op diet -
Never tried it. But there are a few light Greek yogurts out there found in any store (like Light & Fit) that have the same calories and grams of Protein.
-
Have you tried them?. I am on puréed foods and have started using this in my chicken salad instead of mayo. 25 calories, 1g fat, 2g carbs, 2g protein. I like the taste and I'm trying to squeeze in protein wherever I can.
