    Premier Protein

Now I can't tolerate any shakes. The paleo shake I can do, but I have to dilute the heck out of it. I found a great alternative to shakes! 4 triple zero Oikos yogurts equals to 60 grams of protein. It coats the tummy and heals it with the probiotics. 🙂 Sent from my LGMS550 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve and Hernia repair

Surgery and repair went well. Recovery is going well too. I had nausea right after surgery but it got better with a patch and oxygen. I only had ice chips and some broth the first day and moved to full liquid on Day 2. Drinking any liquid is challenging right now. I get cramps when I drink something but my doctor said that was normal. Yogurt and pudding with protein powder are what I'm using to get protein in. The gas pain is getting better each day. I'm hoping that I will feel almost 100% by Thursday when I go back to get my staples removed.
  4. I've started the pureed phase of my diet and I'm having a hard time incorporating protein unless it's a greek yogurt or protein shake. I can tolerate a scrambled egg, but that's about it. The thought of pureed meat grosses me out. I work in a nursing home and that's all I can think of. What can I do? I need more variety in my life. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    5 Day Re-Set

Hi , Anyone out there done the 5 Day Re-Set program. I sure needed it. Mu surgery was on Oct. 12 2015. Start weight 268, pre-surg. 257, lowest after surgery 196, last 5 months up to 218, so a somewhat recent gain 22 LBS. I had gotten sloppy . Plain and simple. I was slowly letting sugar back in, breads. I really dont have much dumping. So that obviously can be good and bad. As you guys know, after like a year and a half, (well my experience) , you can eat then three hours later ....you could eat again. So to make a long story short....I tried the 5 Day Pouch Re-set. (you dont have to have a pouch- I don't even know what that really means) but the 5 Day Re-Set puts you back to eating the way you did your first 5 days out of surgery. You can lookit up , but basically Day 1& 2 liquids, protein drinks, diet jellos , puddings, veggie juices. Day 3 , add yogurts, soft tuna, eggs, cottage cheese. Day 4 more proteins added hamburger meat, chicken, etc. By then your carb cravings do decrease......and this starts to feel like your new normal way to eat again. Day 5 all proteins added back in. I am happy to say , I am not having cravings. I DO feel like this is my new normal to be back to having my protein shake, no- cal liquids, ( except I do make a tea with a bit of coffee mate and a splenda blend that has like 10 calories- Its like a low cal milk tea), yougurts, eggs, good proteins. It has returned my way of thinking to back when I was just a few months out of surgery. I am happy to say I am back down to 212 lbs. SO, a 6 lb. weight loss . If you have sort of gone off the rails a bit, try the 5 Day Pouch Re-set. I have to admit I tried it 2 X before and only lasted like one day. But when You really start drinking your water, a protein drink, and let your sleeve really work for you - and go back to basics, this really helped me out and put me back on the right track. Let me know of your experiences , if anyone has tried this. I am thinking I may do this once a month to keep me in check!!! I feel fantastic!! All the best to each and every one of YOU! Sheilzy

I'm on the losers bench yay!!!

I was sleeved on the 7th and had a massive hernia repaired too. I was so nauseous day one in the hospital that I could barely walk. I'm now 6 days out and off my percoset (crushing it and trying to get it down was soooo horrible), and just trying to get my liquids in. The main reason I went off the pain meds is bc they would zonk me out and I'd sleep for hours instead of being awake and sipping fluids all day. I had a nonfat Greek yogurt yesterday with granulated monk fruit sweeter and that went down well. I too feel some pressure from liquids and then get odd sounds. I think a lot of us have trapped gas too. I've had some relief with gas x dissolvable strips.

    After Surgery Taste Issues

Hi folks, If you were just sleeved in July it is still so NEW. everything simmers down believe me. For the first year, it is a whole new experience. I am now 1 year 10 months out. At around 1 year 2 months, ever since last Christmas, I realized I could eat EVERYTHING. Now we all know, it's not that we should eat everything. But if you are frustrated with weird tastes in your mouth, strange swallowing, sensations, it will get much much better. If anything I wish I still had a little more of the dumping sensations. Because of that I had gone up about 18 pounds. My stats are top weight 268, surg. weight 257, lowest weight 196 (total loss 72) , THEN back up to 218 , so actually a 22 lb. gain. What the Dr.s say Can definitely can happen. You get comfortable again about 1 1/2 year out. And can slowly start gaining from snacking, becoming sloppy with sugars, and breads. I was having some sugar, I had slowly started to have some bread......just regular food, when I went out to dinner , etc. I am happy to say I have just done the 5 - day re-set. That is like going back to the beginning and eating the same way for 5 days, liquids, , then liquids, and yogurt, diet jello's puddings, pureed foods, then every day adding a bit more soft protein, til at day five you are at liquids, proteins drinks, eggs, meats, etc. Happy to say the sleeve responds VERY well. Down 6 pounds now on day 5. Back to 212. Hallelujiah. I know I am back on the right road. The cravings are gone, back to eggs, yogurt, proteins, lots of fluids.....most important my head is back in the game and remembering what I did this all for. But just letting you all know, the first 6 months are for sure a time of everything re-adjusting, tastes coming back to normal. Also if you had a hiatal hernia while you had your sleeve done, it may take extra long a couple months for swallowing to feel normal , BUT IT WILL! Best of luck to all you Newbies. You got this!!!

    Snacks !

Cheese. Nuts. Jerky. Ostrim meat sticks. No sugar added Greek yogurt. Cottage cheese. Laughing cow cheese. Cold cuts, rolled up with cheese/cream cheese (some times I put cilantro or green onion or pickle in the middle, sometimes I grill) tuna salad, celery stuffed with peanut butter/cream cheese, turkey pepperoni, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, laughing cow cheese. Can you tell I like cheese?
  9. 16oz of this has 40g protein. It is made with whey protein, but since it's cultured you may have better luck with it (I did). Keep in mind 2oz greek yogurt or cottage cheese = 1 cup of milk or broth. Since you are 3 weeks out, it won't be long before you've moved from liquids to food. Exciting times!
  10. Thanks for any help anyone has. I am going to try and drink bone broth today but even with some yogurt I won't make 60g any other plain protein powders that don't taste horrible? Anyone else ever get these almost allergic reactions to whey? I'm not allergic to dairy.

    After Surgery Taste Issues

I was sleeved 8/1 and it's been an adjustment to finding things that don't taste gross. I think it is because we are in ketosis and have a constant salty metal taste in our mouths... my go to foods have been Greek yogurt, avocado, hummus, watermelon and mango. They seem to balance out the taste for me. I find that most creamy soups or broth based foods taste gross and I struggle with the pre-mixed protein shakes.
  12. I'm three weeks out. My main proteins are grass fed organic whey powder (no sugar no flavor) mixed with milk or water. Two days ago I started getting a dizzy nausea bad vision shaky feeling after just having a hand ful of sips of my protein drink. Been drinking it exactly the same two or three times a day since just after surgery so this reaction is new. I tested the milk, didn't give me that feeling. Tested the protein powder in water, yesterday, and got that same low blood sugar kind of reaction. Very unpleasant and started to give me the start of a migraine. anyone had this reaction to whey? Also why so out of the blue? AND HOW DO I GET ENOUGH PROTEIN? I have some nasty tasting pea protein, can try it. i also drink bone broth and 1 c has 9 g but I can't drink it all day. I also can eat the Greek yogurt, and mix it in vegetable juice. But not in quantity. I have also tried refried beans with success, but I am talking 1 oz at a time. I can't eat much soft food yet.
  13. My surgeon had me start on full liquids when I got home from the hospital yesterday. The list he gave me included grits, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes thinned. I keep picturing those tiny grit pieces getting stuck on my staple line. Is this a typical stage one diet or is it usually clear liquids only? I'm only 3 days post-op and am nervous about eating anything except broth, yogurt and water.
  14. I didn't start puréed until week 3 and solids until4-5 weeks. Everyone has a different plan. I would stick to the plan your doc/nut gave you. Most of what you are feeling is called head hunger. A few ways to deal with it are to stay busy, walk, drink plenty of fluids, try different types of puréed foods. Cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs, creamed soups ect
  15. I'm two weeks 2 days out and was cleared today by my surgeon to start solid foods. I know the feeling...eating soups and yogurt just wasn't my thing. You should be able to introduce solids to your diet by now.

What should I order when fast food is my only option?

Craving sushi? You likely will not be able to tolerate your favourite sushi rolls because of the rice and seaweed wrap, however there are several other equally satisfying options on every Asian-style restaurant menu to consider. Indulge in an order of tartar or sashimi. These rice-less options are easier to digest. Don’t be afraid to ask if your favourite sushi rolls can be made with a cucumber wrap instead of the traditional seaweed wrap. This is often a ‘low carb’ option on sushi menus. Order a side of edamame beans. These soybeans are not only a good source of protein, but they are also rich in fibre. Try a protein rich Asian soup. Asian-style restaurants often have a traditional soup with eggs, tofu, chicken, and/or shrimp. Prioritize the solid pieces and leave most of the broth behind. Salmon or tuna salad. Most sushi restaurants have a simple green salad with a seared piece of fish and a flavourful salad dressing. Sandwiches & Wraps· Choose a sandwich on toasted bread. If it is a large sandwich, remove the top piece of bread. Great options include: chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad and deli meats. Wraps are also a good option. Opt for baked chicken rather than crispy chicken. Breakfast egg sandwiches Choose a breakfast wrap or a toasted english muffin sandwich. Skip the bacon and sausage. Salad Almost all restaurants now have a green salad with chicken. Again, opt for grilled chicken instead of crispy chicken. Other high protein options include: taco salads, chickpea salads and bean salads. Chili Whether you choose the vegetarian or meat version, chili packs a lot of protein. They are also very easy to digest making them the perfect option if you have recently transitioned to solid food. Here are some other helpful tips to challenge those old fast food habits: Skip the combo option… yes, even if it’s cheaper! Don’t order a drink. You will be less tempted to drink and eat at the same time if you don’t have a refreshing beverage staring you down during your meal. Eat in the restaurant instead of in the car. If you are driving and eating, food is more likely to block. You can’t be mindful if you are multitasking! Choose foods described as: grilled, baked, sautéed, broiled, steamed, boiled, etc. more often. These cooking methods are lower in calories. Many corner stores and gas stations now have ‘grab and go’ options in their fridges such as sandwiches, salads, protein shakes, yogurt parfaits, etc. Next time you get gas, make a mental note of 3 appropriate meal options you could choose if you were in a pinch. Bon appétit!- Lisa & Monica

    Vegetarian & Bypass

I've been a vegetarian most of my life. I'm scheduled to have bypass surgery Aug 21st, my nutritionist just said I may have to supplement with protien shakes and Greek yogurt for longer than meat eaters. She thinks it's perfectly healthy to be a vegetarian and have wls. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Thanks for the tip! I was hoping not to have to resort to a laxative. Pretty sure I am constipated as I can't remember the last time I went at this point. I've been making a point to try and go about once an hour but nothing yet. I think I can confirm that it was the milk. After the little bit of yogurt yesterday, I haven't had any other dairy and I don't have the constant stomach pain anymore. I do have some back pain now, but I think it's just from sleeping on my back (which I never do) and being laid up the last few days. Finally feeling like I'm making some progress. Hopefully the worst is behind me! Thanks all for your help!

What can I eat at 2 weeks post op

Seems as though you could have a bit more variety: sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, protein shakes. sugar-free pudding, sugar-free yogurt, decaffeinated tea . . .

Here I Go (My Journey Thus Far)

So the advantAge protein shake was fine. No issues drinking it. So I'll probably stick to that brand for now along with the protein powder. Found these little protein snacks in cheese section of grocery store. Wasn't bad. Also got some Greek yogurt. So gonna do some of that tomorrow. Still need to get more water in. Got about 20oz in today. Was running around all day. That's the worse. Ugh.

    Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty

I've tried the vitamin water Zero and didn't like it very much. I love plain ole water or even unsweetened iced tea. I could probably do the Greek yogurt with cinnamon. Do you set a limit to carbs every day? Kiki Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Procedure day: 9/8/17

    Protein Intake

Greek yogurt, protein shakes, and cottage cheese are a win for me this week.
  23. Thanks for the reply! I think I've actually tracked down the trigger... it seems to be milk - especially my protein shakes. I was using Premier Protein as that's what I used pre-op without any issues. Late yesterday the pain died down enough for me to feel good enough to eat again, so I had some. The pain returned immediately and is just now starting to subside again. My wife has a milk allergy, so we don't have it in any foods that she prepares. Milk never really caused too much trouble for me unless I had a lot of it in one sitting - ice cream for example. But I think my tolerance of it has changed after surgery. I'm still testing the waters to confirm, but the little bit of yogurt I had this morning (one spoonful) was enough to bring on some increased pain, so I think I may be on the right track. I'm trying Isopure today, so we'll see how that goes. I have been able to drink my daily 64oz. of water without any issues, even with the pain. I haven't had many bowel movements since surgery - 2 or 3 I think. That could definitely be part of the issue too, though I don't feel like I have to go. I'm guessing that's because I've been taking the pain meds again the last few days. Trying to figure out next steps on that... Keeping my fingers crossed that I've found the cause of all of this pain. It's pretty miserable and makes doing or eating anything almost impossible. I'm pretty sure I felt better the day after surgery.

    Protein Intake

I was worried too. Its more important to eat 3x a day and focus on fluids, and vitamin intake. Ill eat yogurt or eggs since I'm only 4 weeks out, and feel great. The protein intake will increase, its important to protect your pouch right now. Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app
