Got My Fill Done Under Fluoro!

Aside from the disgusting taste of the barium, everything was smooth. The band is in place, no leaking noted. Surgeon put in 3.5cc of fluid in the band. He thinks that this should get my weight loss moving again. It's interesting how different surgeons have different rules. I'm to be on liquids (clear and full) for the next 24 hours and then I can try solids. I'm truly hoping that this will the beginning of my weight loss...yet again!
  2. Be very careful about eating solid foods this soon unless your surgeon says it's okay. Part of the first six weeks or so after surgery is to allow your body time to heal up. Your band was stitched in place on your stomach wall. Those stitches need time to heal up. If you eat solids before you should, you run the risk of affecting the healing of those stitches. Just because you didn't feel anything doesn't mean it's okay to eat improperly. As to your two pounds loss, that's good to have (as is any weight loss), but it's normal to lose a fair amount in the few weeks right after surgery. Your body is getting rid of fluids taken in during the surgery, and your system is adjusting to how you're eating now. So a certain amount is weight lost is normal, and you should see even more weight coming off over the next few weeks. But again, the focus should be on healing up. Take things slow and take it easy on yourself. The weight WILL come off, but you need to adapt to the stages of recovery. Developing patience is the hardest part of this. Good luck with things. Dave

    Unhappy Camper

Keep reading as much as you can, you will get the hang of things, don't worry. Yes if you eat all of your Protein literally first, you will get fuller faster and will wind up eating less overall. Plus then you will be able to get your daily protein grams in more easily. The weight loss ticker (stick) must be set up by you. If you look at the top right part of your screen, under your screen name there will be an option called "my tickers". Select or click on that and it will walk you through the options.
  4. Had my first visit today. I have to do a pulmonary function test, and get my cavities fixed but it looks promising. My ins requires 3 months of weight watchers in conjunction with once a month dietician visit at the surgeons office. No biggie because I have done ww before and it will take me a few to get the cavities fixed. He agreed to the sleeve which is awesome! I was afraid that he would recommend bypass when I really wanted the sleeve. He said insurance would not be a problem with all the other doctor recommendations. So looks like a few more months but at least I have a starting point and I know he will push for the sleeve

Hello! Newby Here! Surgery was 10/12/10.

Congrats! Welcome to the starting of the new you! I was banded almost 4 months ago. I am 35 and have 3 kiddos. It's amazing how much better we feel with some weight gone! I actually want to play with the kids and have fun doing it! Yeah for the mushies! So much better than drinking your food! And good for you on the scale. I too didn't own one, and didn't get on it except for dr appts. I liked to be pleasantly surprised each time, and I was. I did buy a Wii balance board and now weigh myself once a week on it. Keep up the good work!

    July 2014

Hi Lovingdavid! Yes!!! I too had my sleeve on July 30, 2014! At first, it took some great adjustments (getting use to quantity of foods, etc). Doing really well now. Exercise in gym 2 to 3 times a week. I am a slow loser (weight), but I lost over 70 lbs! I will visit my bariatric team later this month for my one year anniversary! Hope you are doing well!
  7. Hello all, My name is Hanna. I am 21 years old. I have started looking into the Lap Band for the past few months. I just go new insurance and just started looking into surgeons! I have heard nothing but great things about the lap band. I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I've tried every diet under the sun, personal trainers and everything in between. Nothing works! I have goals that I want to live for! I think the Lap Band is the thing I need.

    Muscle Weakness

Has anyone else had extreme muscle weakness after sleeve surgery. Mine started at about 3 mos. post op. I don't exercise much because it's uncomfortable and makes me extremely tired. My surgeon said I must exercise, and I will feel better after I do. I was doing well with the weight loss, but am now starting to crave things that I shouldn't have. Trying like crazy to get enough Protein through food and shakes, but still feel weak. Anyone else have this problem. I feel like I'm falling apart. I am 64 years old.
  9. Hey, I was banded July 31st I was the same way as you september-november...I just went up and down 3-4lbs...than I got my 3rd fill at the very end of november and had good retriction for 2 weeks and dropped 8lbs but now Im back to losing and gaining 2lbs..havnt lost any since the second week of december. I lost alot of weight the first month which gave me a nice boost but its alot slower than I thought. I am even going to the gym 3x a week and trying to watch what I eat. I think exercise is the key to be honest...especially when you dont have alot of restriction...I have my next fill in 2 days and I am hoping that helps me lose some more weight again...I think you already know your answer about what you need to do...but if you need someone to talk to ...just message me and we can exchange email or whatever works for you. I could always use someone to talk to when times get rough and someone to share the good stuff too! Hang in there and try to keep postive and change some of your ways by adding exericse in!

    Wondering When it works

Went back in and had PA put .5 cc back in band, but can't really tell yet if there's a difference as I always do a soft food diet on the first day. So I'll know tomorrow, but PA did say to come back in if I felt I still needed maybe a quarter, to go gradually back up on the fills. He did say that even thought I was really tight at 8cc, that taking some out and going back up to 8cc, that it might not be as tight going back up if I lose more weight before I go back to 8cc. So we'll see how the 7.5 goes. Would prefer to not go back up to that level of tightness. Trisha P.s. there's also a thread on here, the Cinco de Mayo Challenge..to see how well we can do by May 5!!
  12. Hi, everyone! I had been looking at this forum long before I had my surgery and found lots of answer to my many, many questions. I'm glad I decided to become a member. I have a pretty typical story - was heavy all my life and when I got into my later 20's starting having health concerns. My family history is ripe with terrible genetics and I knew I was next on the list if I didn't do something proactive. I have a lot of family that had never struggled with their weight, and sharing the same gene pool as me - baffled me as they ate massive portions at holidays and fast food for 2 meals out of the day, etc. You guessed it, never gained an ounce. Me? Oh, I could smell a chicken nugget and feel my thighs expanding. But I am thrilled with my results so far, everything went so smoothly from insurance approval through hospital discharge that I was actually expecting something to happen... I did have some blues at the beginning but they passed. I hit a stall early on, but it passed, too. I hope I can be in a position to give someone advice one day. Thanks for listening! I hope to post on another topic one day! I'll also put up some pics, soon enough.
  13. This is my first post ever, I've been a lurker. I'm feeling like I haven't made the best use of my band. I was banded May 2006 and have, in general, been successful. I've lost 85 lbs. The problem is this, I'm a horrible eater. I guess in the last 2 and a half years I've figured out that ice cream never gets stuck, therefore I eat ice cream almost daily. I use the excuse that I can't eat much of anything else. That's a lie, of course. I've become lactose intolerant since banding... so the ice cream kinda comes right back out... I think thats the only reason I haven't gained the weight back. Help! I want to get back on track!!! Currently, I weigh 193. My goal is 150. I want someone to be accountable to and vice versa. Even though I'm struggling with my eating habits or really, its a eating disorder, I think I can be supportive of other banders too. My eating is emotionally based, I need to remember that and stop reaching for the ice cream instead of dealing with my anger, fear, depression, etc. A little about me, I'm 39... almost 40, ugh. I live in South Saint Paul, MN. I work fulltime in adult mental health. Also, I'm currently attending college to get my Master's degree in Social Work. I have 3 daughters, twins that are 18... their out living on their own and my youngest is 5, she just started Kindergarten. I'm married and we enjoy boating, camping, etc.
  14. Hi all, I had my band done in June 2010. I did well for the first 2 years lost 85lbs. All of a sudden I started having problems with my band, not being able to keep food down, not able to get the nutrients I needed. My doctor ended up taking out most of my fill and I was fine for a while. I started gaining my weight back slowly but surely. Currently I have gained most of my weight back. I have been miserable with my band not being able to find my "sweet spot", fluctuation of my weight, and not able to keep my food down. I am meeting with my doctor next Friday to discuss having a revision done to the sleeve. my main concern now is I dont want to make a wrong decision with the revision. I'm newly married and my husband and I also want to start a family someday. Im worried about those future pregnancies and how the sleeve will effect my baby. Any advice or experiences are appreciated. Thank you!
  15. Is it the same as "Medical Weight Loss"? I went on it a few years back. Seems to be controlled calorie (worked out to be between 1100-1200), low carb and low fat...but not "OMG I'm dying here" *low*. It was ok. .
  16. You should check out the Inamed website - you'll find info there. Better yet, get statistics from your surgeon. Every surgeon has different stats. My doctor has a very low complication rate - he's been doing surgery for a very long time and has done literally thousands of lap band surgeries. A doctor with less experience will almost certainly have a higher rate of complications. There's more to it than your surgeon's experience though. The patient's have to take some responsibility in terms of compliance with their doctor's orders. There are a lot of variables but I'm sure you'll be able to get a sense of where you stand if you continue to do research. Good luck on your weight loss journey.
  17. Hi All! My name is Melissa. I am in the very early stages of wls. I have my initial consultation appt. in two week. I will be having the surgery (hopefully) through Duke University Hospital. I have struggled with weight all of my life. I go from a size eight (160 lbs) to a size 18( 220 lbs) every 2 years or so. I am a fantastic dieter and exerciser! I am horrible at sticking with the plan. I recently compiled a timeline photo from the past 7 years which really helped me realize that wls is the right decision for me. (the bottom right was taken Christmas 2012) I have a bmi of 36 with several comorbitities. I want to share the photo for anyone who has been through a similar situation. I hope that everything pre-op does smoothly. I have found this site very helpful in my decision.
  18. Hi all it's been a while since I stopped by...to remind you about me I have type 2 diabetes, on an insulin pump. I needed to lose 85 lbs to be at my goal. I've lost 43 lbs and the last weight loss I did have was in November. I need some help. I don't think I'm eating the right foods. I feel like I eat the same 4-5 foods everyday. lunch meat, cheese stick, yogurt Protein bar and Protein shakes.... Not to mention how expensive the Protein Bars and protein power is. I feel lost....I want to lose this other 42 lbs. I don't even know how to get on track or what I should be eating, or how much. It's like everything that I learned in my prep classes, doesn't seem to fit what's happening now. I have been trying to attended Jazzercise 3-4 days a week and walk as much as I can. I'm 47 if that helps any advice given. I did this to hopefully get off the insulin pump my need for insulin has greatly reduced but still on the pump. Thanks in advance!

    preop diet day 2

breakfast: chocolate mint protein powder mixed with chocolate soy milk lunch: unflavored protein powder mixed with vanilla soy milk and sugar free hot chocolate mix was STARVING by 5pm so i caved and ate crackers. :cry dinner: 2oz of chicken breast, 1/2 cup of corn and 3/4 cup of mashed potatoes. drink: 2 traderades. felt a little dehydrated... typically do not drink like that. this is going to be ROUGH. i have a massive headache. :faint: (side note: start weight 209. damnit)
  20. My doctor said restriction goes away as the fat around my stomach shrinks but there has got to be another explanation. Between my second and third fill (1 month) I only lost 4 lbs and yet I lost restriction after the first week. My stomach couldn't have shrunk that much after one week to make a difference. Does anyone out there have another explanation that makes more sense? I could see losing restriction if I had a 10lb plus weight loss but 4 lbs....just doesn't seem possible. Has anyone else lost restriction with only a few pound weight loss? And he checks my volume each time before a fill so its not a leak or anything like that.
  21. Very good question. As Cheri said, this is exactly the reality I'm dealing with at about 3 months out. I was so sure prior to surgery that I was going to be absolutely miserable and deprived over the small portions, but that hasn't really bothered me. The going got tough when I stopped losing and had to really address my eating issues. Luckily, I've been tracking every morsel I eat in My Fitness Pal, so it was easy to see that snacking is a big problem for me. I've been a grazer for my entire eating life, and I've determined that this is the habit that has to go if I'm to succeed long term. In the past, I wanted to lose weight but I didn't want to change. Now, for the first time ever, I WANT to change. So I would have to say my biggest obstacle to overcome is me. It's a work in progress!

    Tummy tuck or toning

I'm going to need the have my tummy done and possible a body lift. Depends on how bad my skin is after all of this. I will be getting a breast done as well. I know where I am the breast cost about $6,000 and the one office I called about the tummy was $12,000. I'm hoping they can do some kind of package and do a discount. I already started saving... my biggest fear is loosing all of the weight and still being unhappy with my body so saving for the cosmetic stuff is one of my biggest goals financially.

    Hmo Problems? Humor

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives. Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman said, "and as long as you're at it, add some sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled. :phanvan And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14. So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast. God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. :hungry: And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof. God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named it "Angel food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food." God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds. Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds. :faint: God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald's and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Satan said, "It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest. God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery. Then Satan created HMOs.

What's a typical eating day like for you? Do you exercise? I know it sounds counter -productive, but upping your calories may actually jumpstart your weight loss. If you give your body too few calories it can be just as bad as too many.

Did anyone quit smoking along w/band?

I was banded in September 09, and I quit the day of my surgery. Wasn't something I was ready for but when I woke up from intubation I knew my lungs had had it. I was hacking and coughing and thought 'this is insane'. I had just gone through major surgery to change my lifestyle from obese to a healthy weight and I was gonna smoke???? Posh!!!! I am stubborn when it comes to decisions so once I decided I was done, that was it for me. I never looked back and I did it cold turkey. For me that was best. For you, a nicotine replacement program might do better, however I'm not a proponent of Chantix, as I have personal experience with family and friends having SERIOUS side effects while on that medication. Its why I never tried it. Personally...quitting smoking was much more difficult that this surgery or dieting. Its difficult and you will want to replace the smoking with snacking so make sure you stock up on sugar free mints, and anything else you need that's healthy to replace the cravings with. My personal favorite? Baskin Robbins hard candy, Cookies and cream flavor, sugar free, 1g fat per candy so use sparingly but NUMMY!!!!
