  1. Seeing how well I've done from the surgery so far has convinced my sister to move forward and start the process for RNY as well :) She's even heavier than my highest weight, and has more health issues than I do/did, so I know this will be a life changing journey for her. Soo excited for her journey, let alone mine! hahaha I'm going to my doc's free seminar again with her in a few weeks to be there for moral support. I've always said whatever she chose to do was fine, this surgery isn't for everyone. But I'm really glad that she wants to do it to better her health. Proud big sister over here :1295_raised_hands_tone1:

That's great news!!!! Even better is that having 1 or more family members who've experienced successful WLS outcomes is greatly predictive of success for the new person about to undergo WLS. :D Win-win!!!

Great supportive sister and now you will be comrades! Awesome!

  2. This weekend we had end of season football banquets. It was awesome to hear from people that hadn't seen me for a couple of weeks saying how great I looked, I've lost a lot of weight, what am I doing, etc. It was great to hear positive comments and know that everything I was wearing was much smaller than what I was wearing just 6 weeks ago. I'm .2 lbs away from 75 lbs total loss from my heaviest weight, 40lbs since the surgeon consult, and 25 lbs since my sleeve on 10/16. As I sat and relaxed with my wife, we were browsing some photos that were taken and she was shocked by some taken this weekend and how different I looked. She also commented about how different my forearms, hands, and legs looked. I'll take that! Every day is progress, whether the scale reflects it or not. I'm down to a 36-38 size pants from a 44, and a XL shirt from a 3XL. Still have 60lbs-ish to go (not sure what my "goal" is quite yet, just want to be in onederland) and will get there when I get there. No need to rush it. For now, I'm still learning, and becoming a better me with each day that passes.

  3. Good Morning Everyone!

I am fairly new here, just a few days on the app and website. I am 16 days pre-op and on the liquid diet currently. I chose to start liquids 4 weeks out to ensure I hit the pre-op goal from my doctor. I'm 10 days into the liquids and I've already shed 13lbs. The liquid diet has not been easy and really brought forward the realization of how addicted to food I was. Smells of real food still make me hungry, but I try to avoid them at all costs and keep myself full with protein shake and veggies. I can't wait until my VSG procedure. Being on this app and reading all of your stories and experiences has really helped me and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you.

Hope you have a good Monday! :)

  4. So I joined this site because I saw that it supported each-other. My doctor recommended that I get referred to get weight loss surgery. So I went to a seminar and decided that I wanted to get the sleeve. My first consultation is this week and I can't wait!! Problem is that I do not have enough supporters to get this surgery. My fiance says he will but then is constantly bringing up that he will help me lose the weight naturally. My family is dead set against because of what happened with my mom. She made wrong choices but after the surgery. Honestly its like I cant figure out what to do I'm the type of person that wants to please everyone but this is the one thing I want to do for me so I don't end up like my family and its like I keep hitting walls when this is brought up. I'm frustrated, guilty, and overwhelmed. Has anyone else been is a similar situation and what did you do?

If your program is like most, there will be several months (usually 6) of classes and testing before having the actual surgery. It will give you and your family time to adjust before the big day.

They usually do like to see some lifestyle changes before the surgery, so your fiance will get to see you working on things on your own.

  5. Down 9.6lbs a week out from surgery! That's INSANE. I'll take the crazy losses while I can get them lol

  6. I seem to have hit another stall already--I keep waiting for my loss to hit 50 pounds but it just isn't getting there. I have lost a bit of the grip on what I'm eating and whether I'm getting enough protein and so on--a lot of changes lately. I moved about a week ago and then lost my niece (age 43) to a heroin overdose. So, kind of traumatic times. I don't think I'm going to be able to get to the funeral. Like so many things, nothing I can do about that.

Still, shopped yesterday and have some protein shakes, much as I dislike them, to help me get back in control. Made a birthday cake for the friend with whom I'm staying, but that's gone now and I've bought some sugar-free fudgesicles for my "sweet."

I'm a bit frustrated by the fact that I don't really notice a change in my body and I'm still wearing all the same clothes. How much do I have to lose before the clothes are too big? Sheesh. And then I have to stop a moment and realize it's only been six weeks since the surgery--this is a long journey, not a sprint.

    So, onward.

    1. Apple1

I think we all go through these down moments after surgery and especially during a stall. Just don't let this lead to self sabotage, find the positive side in everything you have accomplished thus far and believe in yourself. Imagine yourself as you want to be 6 months to a year from now. Keep that image in your mind and push out the negative thoughts. Don't let past habits back in. Yesterday's mistakes are already in the past and today is a new day.

      You can do this!!!

      I'm Praying for you today.

Thank you--I'm working to get back on track. It's been a tough period with the move and my niece's death. Tonight I made soup, mostly veggies and turkey kielbasa, very good. I'm not quite used to being able to eat just about anything again . . . able to--I know it's not necessarily a good idea just because I can.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Almost 50lbs is amazing! Your body just needs a little breather, then will reward you with a 2 pound drop. I'm sure of it!

    1. Fibro Queen

      Fibro Queen

Have you tried to get disability with the COPD? Don't know what the limits are. I have Fibro and many other illnesses and know the pain of walking. Chronic fatigue, chronic pain, diabetes and high blood pressure to include a few. I start with very mild yoga. Stretching mostly, and 5 minutes of walking. After a couple of weeks move up to another 5 minutes. Use a walker if you have to. I do. It helps with the knee pain. Takes the pressure off my back and knees both.

  10. I am two weeks out from being sleeved and boy has this been an adventure! I'm just starting on the pureed stage and am having a difficult time. My tummy doesn't want food in it! The liquid stages were easy but I just don't want any food. Please tell me someone else has been through this and that it got better. I'm ready to be hooked up to a feeding tube forever😔

  11. I have been on this stall for just at a week today.... Trying to keep positive but I think I am going threw a little buyers remorse WTH did I do to my body?? I mean I am focusing on trying to keep positive some days are deff harder then others.... Today is hard :(

    1. Cloebird

      Cloebird

I'm sorry. I'm in a stall too. it's frustrating. I decided to take my body measurements. It made me feel better to see that has changed! (14" overall). I'm hoping we both get out of this stall ASAP!

  12. Very excited this morning. Good things have been coming my way all week. I finally got over my stall (which ended up being dehydration) and have entered "onederland".  I have gone from a 40J to a 36H (start weight at 256). And to wrap it up even more nicely, my husband had an very successful surgery for his battle with cancer this Friday. Very excited and happy and a million other things.

Congrats on breaking the stall and identifying the dehydration. But, more importantly, praise God for your hub's successful cancer surgery!!!

  13. I am just a little confused I was banded 8/27/13 I did very well but in the last 3 mos I gain 22 pounds now I am back on track I started out 300 plus as of Now I am 216 I want to get to 180 how many calories and carbs I should be taking in A day thank u all

    1. Berry78

      Berry78

A good start is 1200 calories. Aim for losing 1-2 pounds a week. Cut out white sugar and flour, and make sure you get 60-70 grams of protein.

      Good luck!

  14. I am almost two months out and starting to stall... Is that normal??

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Yep. You'll have to get used to it if you weigh yourself all the time. This is why I don't. But don't worry, even if the scale doesn't show a loss, I can bet your inches are going down. So it's really not a stall in my opinion. Just follow orders and youll be fine. Remember that it takes about 6 months for total healing, so I hear. There will be ups and downs, just take them like a champ. 😁

    2. ChaosUnlimited

      ChaosUnlimited

Yes, I have found that I often go a bit of time with out losing pounds on the scale, but then all of a sudden I drop several pounds in one or two days. Even when I'm not seeing the numbers move, I do notice that my clothes are still fitting differently so I'm still getting smaller.

My nutritionist said most people lose that way, if you were to graph it, it would look like descending stairs rather than a diagonal line.

  15. 9/12 - Went to the trainer to new a training regiment. The first was just cardio and light lifting to get me smaller and my body to be a lot more flexible. Now, is the real stuff. I have a HIIT workout 3 days out of the week. Heavy cardio of 30/30 for 45 minutes and a light elliptical day.

    Monday: HIIT

    Tuesday: 30/30 Cardio

    Wednesday: HIIT

    Thursday: Light Elliptical

    Friday: HIIT

She says now its time to get to the real stuff. She knows that I want my body to look like and she created this to start me off. I have 4 weeks of it. She also added room to modify the work out if I am really hurting to do one less set. I am just so excited. This a work out that she does but her's is way more intense and done a faster pace. Will be increasing my calorie intake from 775 to 1000 calories on these HIIT days. I will need to make sure that I am eating enough to sustain my body.

9/17 - My mom decided to buy me a Pandora Bracelet. Lol she was not prepare for the cost of it and told me, "Happy Birthmas" lol. She told me to add charms and numbers for every goal I achieved. She told me she was proud of me and was so happy for all my hard work.

@StrivingforbetterThank you. She really was excited and she is awesome. I did it this week and it was killer but I really enjoyed it. It was something new and once you get the workout high you are good.

@Newme17 That workout is amazing. This plan is guaranteed to kick my butt and hopefully make me stronger. I say every one should wear their goals. I love that it is a reminder of how far I have come. I have a bangle coming that shows my new hobby of weight lifting. I plan on putting those charms on this bracelet as well.

Also my Fitbit Blaze finally died. My heart was hurting. However, I got 50% off the charge 2 because I never used my Warranty lol. I cannot complain. It has been an awesome week.

  16. Just had my one month post surgical appointment - all is going well. My surgeon worked to get me to not be upset with the three week stall that she turned into two weeks. All in all I'm happy with the surgery but I did the surgery to get down a 100 pounds not ten. So back to my water, protein and walking hopefully the stall will end soon.

  17. I originally had the Lap Band in 2009. By 2016 I had lost 100 pounds and had reached my goal weight. In October of 2016 I was in a car accident and my surgeon had to do an emergency surgery to remove my band because it had rotated and was restricting all fluids from going down. I have spent the past 6 months jumping through every hoop and request that Molina has requested in order to get a revision surgery to have the Sleeve procedure done. Next week will be my final dietician appointment and we will send in the required paperwork to request authorization for surgery. I pray that Molina approves this surgery. I have regained 87 pounds since my accident. I'm discouraged but determined to get back to goal.

  18. Going on day 3 of feeling awful, I cant keep my protein down, I can get very minimal water down at this poing everything makes me want to throw up... I have No will to eat or even drink at this point... my energy is super low I do good until about 330 and then I want to crash out... Thinking Im low on fluids so I may be making a trip to the Emergency room :(

  19. Headahe!!!!  I am doing a liquid diet trying to lose the last 3 pounds my insurance company requires before they will approve my surgery. However, this is causing me to have a constant and awful headache and fatigue. Not to mention how crabhy I am!  Does anyone have any advice on what I am doing wrong or what i can do to help out?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I had headaches, fatigue, and a whirlwind of emotion when I was on liquids. I was on liquids pre-surgery for 9 days, after about 4, I started to feel normal again. Hang in there.

  20. ... Waiting for sundown (per Google, it's in 75 minutes) so I can try to get the rest of my 10 000 steps for today (per my iPhone, I have 3 676 steps to go).

  21. @Apple1 You are my inspiration !!!! I'm 1-week post -op and I,m down 10 pounds and 17 lbs from pre-op for a total of 27 lbs.OMG . I will continue to visit your page for encouragement and positive example of perseverance. YOU ROCK  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:780_sparkling_heart:

    i take any suggestions! 😫

    1. Michelle'sgarden

      Michelle'sgarden

Did you try colace? I read on one of the boards this was approved. My doctor told me to drink more water and walk more. Also to make sure I was getting 3-6 grams of fiber - I'm not a doctor so take my words with caution.

    2. coyote

      coyote

Hi Sandy057, I also had bad constipation at two weeks. I'll echo Michelle'sgarden and suggest to drink more water and move around. Even now at almost 7 weeks out I have a bowel movement twice a week. This is probably our new normal now :) It will get better once you start phasing in solid food (I assume you're still on liquid diet - I had the opposite effect during that phase!)

    3. Gen17

      Gen17

I took a stool softener and that worked a bit for me. I was also told about this tea called smooth tea that helps!

  23. So here I am at one week post op and feeling great. Even the gas problems disappeared. Yesterday and today I got back into my 30 minute walk routine feels great. Tried on some clothes I wore to work end of June and they don't fit! Probably because of the 40 pounds I lost pre op. But either way best decision I've made in a long time.

    1. Gen17

      Gen17

Isn't it a great feeling? I just did my first overhaul of my closet and half of the stuff is being donated. The other stuff I had from when I was smaller and looks even better now! Great job and keep up the good work!

  24. Sold my soul to the Optifast Gods this passed Monday. My wallet is $400 lighter and I have less than two weeks until I start drinking 7 shakes a day and no food.

They said that I could have 1 cup total of either Peppers, lettuce, celery or cucumbers.... and that I was allowed to have sugar free - calorie free drinks and popsicles. But it is no doubt going to be three weeks of misery. on the 22nd day I will have to start my day before surgery stuff. I just hope it goes by fast.

    1. nursejackie

      nursejackie

I did Optifast years ago before I decided to do this surgery. I finally stopped because I hit a stall and was paying like 1000 a month between the drinks and appointments. While I was on it I felt surprisingly full. It was not that hard to stick to. I think because of all the protein. I lost a lot of weight too ( gained it all back but whatever lol ). You can do it . Good luck.

  25. I think my last update was early July and I was stuck on a long plateau.  Well since then things have been interesting.  I spent a week in the hospital with an acute Pancreatitis attack, followed by something going horribly wrong with my chemistry causing my ankle to balloon (it was not gout).  I have been on steroids for the last week and in a huge walking boot.  Makes work very very difficult.  That being said - the plateau broke - and I am down to 259 - nine pounds from goal 1....  What a rollercoaster ride it has been.

    1. shedo82773

      shedo82773

That stuff is horrible!! I have had it like 4 times. Do you know what treatment they have? NOT a darn thing!! I was told that if I wanted to be admitted for it I could go on a clear diet and ride it out. Plus pain management. That is it. The last time I stayed home and went on clear liquids. It worked but...as you know it is o painful!!!

    2. luckylimey

      luckylimey

Shedo82773 - I was not given a choice - when I went to the ER they told me I was being admitted to CCU. My Lipase was 3600 - 8mg morphine every 4 hours for 5 days + zophran. Glad it's all over right now.... I don't think I could have rode out the pain on my own - never felt anything like that in my life.

    3. MusicMom1384

That sounds awful 😫😫😫 I was in the hospital last week for a kidney stone... the pain was worse than childbirth. I think all the medicine stalled my weight loss but wow, thank God for morphine!!! Hope you are feeling better.
