  1. Hi everyone, Im new here as this is my second post in 2 days. I have a question regarding GERD. Im 32 been pretty much overweight all my life and the small time (about 10 years ago) when i was in great shape, i did not suffer from gerd. I also have a small hiatal hernia that may or may not need to be repaired. I do not take medicine for the Gerd, it really doesn't bother me to be honest. I have been reading that preexisting GERD prior to the sleeve can worsen. So much so, that many times the surgeon will suggest a revision to the bypass. The bypass scares the life out of me and i just dont want to do it. No disrespect to bypass patients, But I rather not surgery than get a bypass Studies can only show you so much and Id really like to hear some of your first hand experiences. Did it get worse, Better, same? Also, did any of you get the LINX installed? If so, howd did that go?
  2. Hi ladies, I have a fertility consult in July regarding TTC. I'm about 270 now and pretty much anticipate the doctor telling me that I'll need to lose more weight. I've lost about 150 lbs since my RNY in January 2019 but I've stalled for a while and not sure that I'll make my goal of 250 by my consultation appointment. Have any of you gotten pregnant/had any issues getting pregnant weighing 200+ lbs? I'd very much prefer to be at goal (170 lbs) when I actually start TTC but my eggs aren't getting any younger either.

    New to the process

ONLY REGRET I didn't do this 10 years earlier. Do tons of research. Don't listen to others opinions on WLS if they are negative make your own decision based on legitimate information. Which surgery are you looking at?

    Loose skin fears

I think everyone worries about the loose skin.. It was in the back of my mind but I felt it's worth it for a new life and ffwd 8 months and I've shed 154lbs and I've been very lucky with minimal skin issues mostly on my lower belly and arms but not that noticeable unless naked LoL I've been told as time goes on it may bounce back and when the covid-19 issues go away I'll be looking into gym and toning up over the next year... I'll be 36 this year but I feel and look better than I have in 20 years.
  5. Dear all, I am really so happy to find this forum. I was sleeved in 9 December 2019 in Germany and everything was so perfect for me so far. My Dr told me that after two months i should reduce the pills of PPI slowly. i really did so. It is my fifth month so far and i cannot reduce for more than one pill 40mg for each three days. I really tried a lot but it does not work. in the third day i start feeling some slight pain in my stomach and others i have slight pain in my tonsils. Anyone had a similar story? i am really afraid of having a chronic GERD and then converting to bypass. A last question is about weight loss. since two months my weight loss is very slow. It is a kilo and a half or two kilos maximum. Does it mean that i will not reach my goal? I was 146 kilo. Now i am 114 Thanks a lot

How Bad is the Flight Home?

I had my sleeve surgery on a Wednesday and flew home the Saturday. I had planned on staying longer after my surgery but due to possible plane cancellations (coronavirus) I flew home earlier. Surgeon said I could fly home the Friday if I wanted, I definitely wasn't up to the Friday. Decided to see how I felt the the following day and I felt fine to fly. I travelled solo, so my issue was my suitcase, thankfully I had packed light and used proper manual handling technique to put my case on the belt at check in, and again when picking up the case at arrivals. That was more a drag off the belt and onto the floor. My flight was about 1hr 45minutes - all good there. I didn't need to get up and walk about due to gas pains or anything. I think the biggest worry for you is (1) you don't know yet how you are going to feel after the surgery and if you will be feeling well enough to travel (2) lack of possible social distancing after surgery, not sure I would want the risk of catching covid19 (just after surgery or anytime for that matter) now that it has blown out...hopefully more reined in by then though. (There was only 19 people on my flight home due to massive cancellations back in March and I had no one around at all). What surgery are you having? You may need more time following a bypass? Is your surgeon happy for you to fly four hours after surgery two days before ? Not able to stay an extra night at a hotel somewhere?
  7. I can’t remember off the top of my head. I will contact my doctors office once it opens again after COVID-19. I will post when I know
  8. My first appt was 10/7/19 and I had surgery on 12/18/19. I had a somewhat unique situation in that my insurance was going to expire on 12/31/19, so my surgeon's staff was awesome about pushing everything through quickly. I also stayed on top of things as far as getting all of my mandatory clearances (EKG, PFT, Cardiology and Psych clearances) completed ASAP. Best of luck to you!!
  9. I started on 10/7/19 with the first appointment with the surgeon. I had my surgery on 3/3/20 so right at 5 months. I had to fulfill a lot of appointments with others doctors in that 5 months per the required guidelines of my insurance. I was dedicated and got it all done within the timeline. Mine was supposed to take 6 months but I got it done in 5 months. Whatever your surgeon’s office asks you to do and whatever appointments you need to make, do it. Good luck.
  10. Believe it or not, the time goes by really quickly. I had my initial appointment in October 2018 and had surgery May 2019. I actually went through GW hospital just because it was closer to where I worked and it was easier to get to appointments. But once you start the nutritional portion, it usually depends on what your insurance requires. I was required to attend 6 nutritional appointments and have a psychological evaluation. Once I completed my 6th appointment, I was scheduled shortly thereafter. My husband went through AAMC several years ago and his time frame was similar to mines, so I think it mainly depends on your insurance and you not missing any required appointments. If you do, usually the time will start over. But both hospitals have good programs, I think AAMC was a little stricter in the after surgery eating requirements. I hope this helps.
  11. Hi, I’ve decided to start the process for bariatric surgery. I’m considering vsg. My insurance requires 6 months of weigh ins/dr visits. Although, if BMI is over 50, the six month waiting period is waived. My BMI is 48.5. If I gain 10 pounds, I will hit 50 BMI. The weight management bariatric clinic I was referred to is closed due to COVID 19. I can’t get an anyone to answer the phone. I have no dates set up yet for anything. I’m miserable due to recent and rapid weight gain. I would like to have the surgery done this year. I have already met my out of pocket spending with my insurance due to other issues, so the bariatric surgery will be covered if I have it this year. I’m well aware that I can put rocks in my pocket or ankle weights on my ankles to add more pounds to the scale. However, I am also aware that this is fraud. Should I focus on gaining the ten pounds and feeling worse? Or, should I focus on attempting to lose weight and doing six month weigh ins? Thus, putting me at surgery next year. Also, I had my thyroid removed last year and it’s almost impossible to lose weight. Either way, I’m in a no win situation. Looking for advice. Thank you!!
  12. Hope all is well Here in Australia in my state we are starting to ease covid-19 restrictions opening some shops this week and cinemas and gyms and restaurants next month but still with social distancing and limits on numbers. I've been well and everyone I know and love is well. Anyway just want to summarise my journey for those who are new. I started my weight loss journey 8.5 months ago at 322lbs and I had roux en y bypass 6.5 months ago. From day one I chose to go cold turkey and cut out all the bad food sugar fat carbs and lived off protein shakes religiously for months. By surgery day I was 257lbs and I've now technically been in maintenance a few weeks and this morning I'm 168lbs most days between 168/170lbs and have been that way for a few weeks; finally starting to feel good about myself that's a total of 154lbs gone. Now when I look in the mirror I do not recognise myself anymore it's amazing to see how small I look now. Everyone in my family is so happy for me because I spent half my life obese and unwell mentally not just physically but now my mental health is improving because I no longer dislike what I see in the mirror; is amazing how much my brain has changed now that I'm healthy and skinny. I've only just started experimenting with food more than past 2 months and have relaxed in the carb counting/calorie counting but still quite aware of my daily intake. i will admit I've had a few treats here and there in the past month but it literally has not affected me weight loss at all.. It's like I have a completely new metabolism.. I love coffee and I feel great mentally and physically and I cannot wait to meet a nice young lady who will appreciate me. I'll be 36 in 11 weeks and I'm feeling better than I have in 20 years I personally think and feel like I'm going to be 26 hehehehehe I've got a few photos to show you guys and I appreciate honest comments from the ladies (it's not easy to take photos & get good angle of myself but I did my best) Thank you. If you have any questions about my bypass or anything feel free to comment or PM. Starting BMI 43.3 current BMI 22.7 Love Mikey xx
  13. I am a 2012 gastric sleeve patient from Mexico. Since June, 2019, I have not been feeling well. Excessive heartburn that Omeprazole will not touch at all. In 2018, I had a hiatal hernia repair and found out in October, 2019 that I have another hiatal hernia and was told it cannot be repaired. I finally met with another surgeon and she discovered I have an angulation in my sleeve. I have noticed since I have started to become extremely sick that I have severe constipation, which I have never experienced with the sleeve. I am now drinking smooth move tea every night which has worked wonders for me, but now the past two mornings I am experiencing these very painful cramps and I am gassy all of the time. I noticed when I would not have BM's for days I would bloat up like a blow fish and would be in a lot of pain. I was told I will need a revision to bypass to repair the hernia and the angulation, but due to Covid it is slowing things up a bit. Plus, this new surgeon is making me see the nutritionist and the psychiatrist. I am hoping my insurance covers with no problem for revision since my BMI is only a 30 and they want a 35 with underlying issues. Surgeon said I cannot gain weight due to it will make it more difficult for her to do surgery on me. Anyone on here that has experienced this, what did you do for the constipation, stomach pain and regurgitation until you got relief? Some days the Omeprazole works and other days I am choking and thinking I am having a heart attack.
  14. Yay! Nice, it's always fun to have someone on the same schedule. Thursday is the first day of my diet, actually. I don't have a clear liquid diet except for the last day before surgery, for the rest, it's a milk diet. Three 20 ounce servings of milk or a milk alternative, low sodium broth, and 50 ounces of sugar free low cal (10 or less) drinks or flavored water a day. I drink 120 ounces of water a day, so that part isn't hard. The liquid diet sucks, and I get dizzy a lot, but I did a week before without cheating so I know I'll manage. The most annoying part is cooking for the family and not being able to taste test the food though, since I don't really use recipes. I have to call the hubby or kids in to make sure the sauces and stuff are good or if they need more seasoning, lol.
  15. Hello there! Got revisión to RNY from sleeve on november 28th 2019 due to GERD and hiatal hernia. Got gallbladder removal at the same time. Got emergency surgery on May 3rd 2020 (10 days ago) A day before I felt sick, sharp pain in my tummy that came and went from a 5 to solid 10. Started vomiting at 5pm for a nonstop 12 hours period Arrived dehydrated at hospital, got a CT scan and fortunately they were able to fix me on time, before Any complication presented, like removing intestine or staying in ICU Adhesions covered my intestine at the jejunojejunal anastomosis (the spot where they stitch/unite 2 pieces of intestine) and so producing an intestinal oclusion. I was so scared and in pain. Thank God I am now recovering at home. Any one with similar experience out there? I would love to hear on intestine rehab, what you ate after and how long did it take you to be yourself again My best wishes to all journeys taking place all around the world. Be safe! P.s. Excuse my writing. I am mexican (spanish native language) and obviously my english is so rusty

    Food Before and After Photos

Crack me up. I came up with the name Cheeseburgh when we were living in Pittsburgh *Squirrel Hill, 10 years ago. We lived there about 7 years. It’s my Wisconsin/Pittsburgh combo. I never made it to State College but my husband went there a lot for work. I was born and raised in Madison and it is a great place, especially if you love lakes. Odd fact about me: I HATE cheese unless it is melted mozzarella on pizza.
  17. Ok, going off on a tangent from food here, but I have to share my one and only celebrity encounter myself. 10 years ago, we got to meet Alicia Keyes backstage when she was in town for a concert. The Kid was sooooo upset she didnt get to go to the concert (she was 5!) because her fave song at the time was "No One", so she basically had a meltdown when she found out we met her AND had a picture with her....so I photo-shopped her into it, lol. Over the years, I think she convinced herself she was actually there now. 🤣

    How much would YOU pay???

I am fully aware of the delays people are having. I should have had my surgery April 7th. It of course was canceled. I started this process in December 2019 I probably wont have it till June or July now. But you know what that is OK I have the patience to wait. I feel that this waiting is giving me an opportunity to better prepare myself for this life changing event that is getting ready to take place. I am not sure why you keep bringing up maturity, negativity, and drama. If you cant handle a persons response then do not post anything asking questions.
  19. Hi Cia2020! I wondered what happened to my surgery twin! Sorry about your postponed surgery. Mine was too rescheduled. I went in for my pre-admit. I asked the nurse had the hospital started rescheduling "elective" surgeries yet? She said no. I was hoping to scape by since my hospital I work for was shutting down on 4/1. Nope 10 minutes after I arrived home, I got the call. It's been rescheduled 2x. Finally my new date is May 21. Just fyi..we all maybe subject to Corona testing. I have to get mine 48 hours before surgery. I start my liquid diet tomorrow. All the best everyone!
  20. I made all my sons baby food by steaming/baking his veg, fruit, and meat and using a $10 mini chopper (1 cup size) from a local home store way back in 2006. With a little broth mixed in, it was perfect. So I bought one for me, since I will essentially be going through the same process for a few months. Nothing fancy needed. I do have a nutribullet for my smoothies and protein drinks, but that was given to me 3 years ago for Christmas. Love it to death, use it pretty much daily. Still going strong.
  21. So I meant to post something like this at my 18 month surgiversary, but first I forgot, then I got lazy, lol. Finally finished putting this together tonight (about 2 weeks late, oopsies), and seeing it finished, I wish I was more consistent/regular with taking pictures of my progress during weight loss phase...but I think the end result collage is still pretty cool. How much would YOU pay???

That is your opinion, and it's a negative judgment, that is my point. You are indeed saying it's invalid or wrong. I just asked a question, your judgement isn't helpful to anyone. What if someone said to you it's just my opinion but you got your size because you are X, Y, and Z? Does that person have a right to have that judgmental opinion. My guess is you would say no, since they know nothing about you and are making a lot of assumptions based on their view of life if you were being honest. Just because you have an opinion on everything doesn't mean you need to voice it every time. Just saying. I know a lot of psych providers who do these assessments and they are many months behind due to covid-19. So if it's a matter of waiting for an in-network provider to be back in the office in 4 months or doing it with a provider by telehealth cash out of pocket rather than be delayed with your surgery another 6-8 months, some might choose the latter. it wouldn't be crazy or indicate their lack of patience and maturity (the we didn't get here overnight thing). Maybe you haven't noticed, but there has been quite a delay in some people's appointments and procedures with this nasty virus going around. I'm not going to keep on with this, there was no negativity here until you brought it. You created a problem where there wasn't one - maybe it's what you like to do but I don't find it a lot of fun. I'm not into drama. Have a nice day.

I am 11 months post sleeve, sometimes when I eat I feel like it's stuck in my throat. Anyone else have this problem?
  24. Ok i drink and have drank for a long time - However i Drink Vodka, so if you are a beer drinker really can not help One thing you are going to realize is the power of a drink will be about 10 times stronger - For example I could drink 5 plus good strong drinks prior to surgery - Now i am lucky to get 2 vodka gator-aides in. Also it is rough on the tinny tummy and definitely has calories. So i suggest you go very slow and go from a drinker to a sipper every now and then. Not going to be easy and I fully understand but I just drink high end Vodkas now and do it for enjoyment rather then the Habit or addiction I have.
  25. Hi there everyone! I am in the UK, and in the process of having my pre-approval for a gastric sleeve. I am 33, 5'4 (164cm) and approximately 20 stone (280 pounds). One thing that came up in the psych assessment is that I am a heavy drinker, and this will hinder my attempts to lose weight (with or without surgery.) The doctor said I need to decrease my drinking to 10 units a week, which is a lot less than I drink now. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience, and had to drastically reduce their alcohol intake, and how was their experience of that? Was it easy/difficult? Was it an issue post-surgery? Thanks for your help.
