Hmm, I am almost 3 months out and have had no hair loss. I have read some lose some don't I did see some threads about special shampoo/conditioner that people used. I think your best bet is to keep that protein up and make sure you are taking all your vitamins daily. The dietitian with my program says if you follow the requirement you shouldn't have too many problems but she also said some people just lose some hair and biotin can be taken but wont necessarily help prevent this. From reading threads, most people have hair problems somewhere between 3-9 months and then it slowly resolves. I have decided that if my hair gets bad I will cut my hair shorter and go from there.

Hello. I had a fill on Oct. 9th that is currently kicking my butt! I can tell that I am almost too tight, if not too tight. Almost because I can eat--very little, but still, I can eat. Almost because I can drink--very little, especially in the morning, but I can drink. Too tight because I developed a night cough and acid reflux which I am treating with over the counter drugs and apple cidar vinegar. Too tight because I PB/vomit more than 3 times a day--once on Protein drink with two pills. My question is: Okay, I'm almost too tight, but I've lost more than 10 pounds in less than two weeks. Won't this weight loss (and more loss in the future) "loosen" my band a bit so that I don't need an unfill? I really don't want to get an unfill primarily because it entails a lengthy drive in DC traffic! BTW, when I called my doctor's office last week (only about 5 days after the fill), they told me to wait two weeks before thinking about getting an unfill. At that point I was more uncomfortable than I am now. Will weight loss alone do the trick?

Question about being "too restricted"

Won't this weight loss (and more loss in the future) "loosen" my band a bit so that I don't need an unfill? night cough and acid reflux are strong indications that you are too tight. Continued acid reflux will destroy the lining of your esophagus and can lead to esophageal cancer. A dear friend of mine is dying because he ignored reflux ... later told us he thought it was "not a big deal". Will your band loosen up? MAYBE; MAYBE NOT. And eventually you may find yourself trying to avoid the PBs and stuck episodes by eating slider foods....and the weight loss will slow down significantly or even stop. I know. I was there for two long months (actually, almost three) where I kept telling myself it was getting looser. But I was getting stuck multiple times per day and PBing at least once per meal. And when it came down to me losing 9 pounds over three months, well, it was time to take action. It took the removal on JUST .2CCS to fix it. -
Surgeon says I can't lose any weight...
AmberK replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office gave me a chart for the doctor to fill out every time I went in to see him on what my weight loss efforts had been. It was a generic form that would satisfy most insurance company's requirements. He just needed to document my weight, what I had been "trying to do, and any behavior modifications that he recommened to help me lose weight. I did not ever journal what I ate and to be quite honest didn't try really hard to diet to begin with. I've been there, done that and if it really worked for me then I wouldn't need the lap band to begin with. The surgeon's office said I didnt have to lose any weight but just to make sure not to GAIN any. -

Freaking out!!! My hair is falling out in huge clumps when I wash it. My dr said he doesn't think it is from my WLS. But I'm not so sure. I want to know if anyone else has experienced this problem. If yes what are your suggestions for stoping and/or slowing the loss down?

Hey guys! So I was sleeved May 6th and have undergone several major surgeries and about 16 smaller procedures to correct a leak that occurred 10 days after my initial surgery. That being said I was put out of work for the last 6 months and have now returned to work as of the 7th of this month. I will gladly add that I have been, what I call, foreign object free for about a month. Currently I have lost a total of 156lbs since the date of surgery, and although physically I look good (very few stretch marks, no saggy skin, etc.) I'm having a problem with just daily stamina and exhaustion. My doctor says that along side of the fat loss, I have also lost most of my muscle mass as well. My back will start to hurt after some time being up and active due to lack of core strength, and I need some advice with this. I'm now able to eat soft foods after having been on NPO (no food or drink by mouth) for almost 6 months. So I'm trying to be mindful as to what I'm eating and reminding myself to eat as well. But it doesn't seem to be helping too much. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

Valentine’s Day Question: Has Weight Loss Surgery Improved Your Relationship?
Alex Brecher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey, BariatricPal Members, I have a question for you. I’d like to feature a story in the Valentine’s Day newsletter about weight loss surgery and relationships. If you’d like me to consider including yours, please post on this thread! Is there anyone out there who has found that their relationship with their SO has gotten better after Weight Loss Surgery? Maybe your relationship got stronger after going through some of the hardships, or you’re closer because of your new body and confidence? Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to read the great stories. -
Valentine’s Day Question: Has Weight Loss Surgery Improved Your Relationship?
Vanessa G replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My got worse before it got better. Maybe a bit of jealousy or not knowing how to approach the new me. The MGB made me want it more but the more I wanted it the less I got it. After a talk with hubby, things got better. Skin starting to sag from weight loss but I have more energy and confidence than ever. -
Surgery 1 Week Away!!!
endlessdreams_x replied to endlessdreams_x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GOOD LUCK DAVE! Oh I am through with a little over a week of those liquids. Keep strong, the weight loss and liver shrinking to be eligible for the surgery is way worth it! -
I can't believe it. I'm through one week of liquid diets with one week left to go and on Monday, October 26th I will be banded!!!! I can't believe I've waited this long & got through it! The liquid diet has been so hard, I do crave food, but the weight loss I've had so far is worth it. Fortunately, I do not crave sodas like I thought I would. 13lbs down in just 7 days. 7 more days of it to go, maybe I'll be down even further! I wish everyone on the 26th surgery date luck & hope to see you on the skinnier side -Jamie Love

Band removed -- Back and feeling good
KarenB replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Alexandra, long time no post (me). I'm sorry you went through all that, but happy for you that all went well w/your band removal. Your picture looks amazing. You've done such a wonderful job w/your weight loss and it shows in your glowing face! I just posted that I'm having my band removed & going for the RNY. I'm glad I checked in! -
I was extremely nervous about my visit. I saw the psychologist affiliated with the bariatric program at the hospital, even though I was given the option to see whatever psychologist I wanted-as long as he/she was certified. It was a lot of questions about previous weight, weight loss attempts, why I believed they failed, if I have a support system in place, and ALOT of questions about the surgery and diet/lifestyle changes afterwards. Basically, they are looking to make sure you have done your research and are mentally prepared for it all; do you understand what is going to happen/what the surgery entails. It went very well. I was VERY honest, and obviously answered correctly. I was "passed" by him, he gave his report to the surgeon, and I was submitted. Now just waiting to hear back from insurance. Good luck and be honest!

Have you tried Prenatal Vitamins, "hair, skin, and nail vitamins", or Biotin?

Hi Ivy; Took this journey with many other SoCal sleevers and this is our hot topic of conversation at one year out. My disclaimer - none of us are too skinny and I mean that with BMI or health issues. None of us are non eaters - DUH or we would not have required VSG surgery. Your body will know when to stop, really. As Rootman said, you start to eat a little more too. There are about 6 of us in southern CA that support each other, each having different surgeons - all getting sleeved within two months of each other. One beauty has not hit weight loss goal at a year out (under 100 lbs to lose total) and still privately struggles since she has balanced out at "overweight" down from "obese". She would love to get down to a "normal" BMI range but her body resists. The rest of us are at or lower than we ever dreamed of getting in normal BMI range. Listen - we are all professional dieters on this site and know what NOT to eat to gain weight. Worry about hitting goal learning better healthy habits prior to surgery, practicing those tenants (eating healthy with proper calories, Protein, take supplements’ and Water) during weight loss phase and then worry about maintenance food still is a major part of my life, but my hunger no longer owns me. So, the glory of the sleeve is if you need calories, add healthy calories such as cheese, greek yogurt, extra slice of meat, a dab of guacamole or sour cream. YUM. Do not worry about anything other than hitting goal and learning new habits to create a new healthy you. I have no regrets, a mini miracle. Love my sleeve!

I've done it while in maintenance, but not while I was in weight loss mode. Clear it with your team first. They might want to you get a good dose of protein every few hours, and doing IF might interfere with that.

So excited! Got a new outfit!
greytz replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Missy, Congrats! That is such a good feeling. And yes unfortunately for some people that is where you lose. I also have lost inches in my boobs. It is disheartning. I am going bra shopping soon. But, for me it is a small price to pay for the weight loss. Good Luck! -
First fill of 5ml and no real change?
Mimilou2004 replied to LouLouBell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is a long journey, isn't it? You are in Bandster Hell, waiting for fills to take you to restriction. If you do not want to gain wt like I did, start exercising and limit your food intake like you are on a regular old fashioned wt loss diet. Restriction will come, but maybe not in full force til your 3rd fill. The Dec 2 fill should help you control your appetite and portions. Best wishes, Mimi -

Banded for over 7 months not losing!
Sharpie replied to crystaleffexx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
absolutely agree with Cheryl. If you are doing even 80% of what you are supposed to, you will lose weight. I lost over 60 lbs and have not been on a diet .. I eat the amounts my band tells me and I stay away from slider foods such as ice cream and chips and crap. If you need to track your food, go to MyFitnessPal.com it will give you a good guide. perhaps you need a fill or maybe you need to go back to square one and meet with your nutritionists. Hope you get it solved because weight loss surgery in itself is not the answer . -
My name is Linda. I am 5'2 and started at 210 pounds. I had my sleeve in may 2015. I have had a few bumps along the way with figuring out portions and nausea. Now I have problems with air building up when I eat. I'm down to 169 pounds. I have gone from excerising everyday to having lost my motivation. I can't get my protein and water in while I'm working and now my hair is falling out. Anyone have ideas?
