    Happy banders

Old lapbandster here too! Have been banded for 10 years. Love my band most of the time and have no plans to remove it. Not for now at least. I think a lot of the problems are due to a band that is too tight. I was having issues in the past two years and found that an unfill + progressive fills to a lower level to have solved 90% of them. Don't let the band get too tight as it can happen even if you have not had fills for years! I am 14 pounds heavier now at a lower fill level but would rather be a little heavier and comfortable than thinner and miserable.
  2. Omg, when you see your surgeon, BLESS them!! Congrats on 3 pounds down, woohoo! Leads to even better things post surgery, I think, if your weight is moving now. Mine is 20 ounces milk or milk alternative 3x a day. 16 ounces broth, low sodium. At least 50 ounces water with sugar free low calorie (10 max) flavors. That's it. I drink 96 to 120 ounces water minimum, always have. But yeah, the rest? Blah! This is me!
  3. Finally, got a new surgery date no thanks to Covid-19. Was suppose to go from sleeve to gastric bypass, along with fixing a hiatal hernia on 4/1, which I so need. I’m over pain & acid reflux. So fingers crossed 6/24, is it. 🤞🤞Not how I wanted to spend summer, but it’s better then not at all, looking at the positive side of it. Who knows where I live summer could be cancelled to. 🙂

    Has anyone ever felt this?

I was 19 when i first got the lap band. I got it filled once and never used it again. I lost like 50 pounds and kept the weight off pretty well. I recently discovered other health issues which is causing me to lose a crazy amount of weight. Honestly i havent really had any issuses. But lately ive been having the feeling like i can feel the band around my stomach. Ive never had this feeling before. I recently started doing more body weight exercises so i thought it was that but i havent worked out since saturday and its monday now so idk. It doesnt hurt its jus a feeling. Oh and a few weeks ago i was taken to the hospital for abdominal pains. Sharp terrible pains near my ovaries. I thought i was dying. They gave me morphine and rushed me out because of corona. They diagnosed it as torn ligament in stomach. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

    Help

I started where you were. It took me 20 months to lose all my excess weight. I think I weighed around 185 at the one-year mark. I can't remember if my surgeon had a goal for me or not, but he was elated with my progress. I can tell you that once you hit the year mark, stalls become more frequent and longer and weight loss drops down to nearly nothing. Like two lbs a month. I got discouraged so many times, thinking I'd never get to a normal BMI (even though my surgeon and dietitian told me not to get my hopes up because only about 10-15% of their patients made it that far), but I kept plugging away and eventually made it. SO...suffice it to say, don't give up hope yet! Just continue to follow your plan. If you go for more than a month or so and the scale doesn't move, then cut back a bit on calories and see if that gets things moving again. But long stalls and snail-pace weight loss are VERY common once you get into year 2. P.S. I think your surgeon is going to be happy with even 196. Considering all the weight you've lost, that's really not that far off the mark. But keep plugging away!
  6. I have been quarantined for 63 days. On a normal day I am a 35 year old kindergarten teacher and single mom. Tomorrow the stay home band will be lifted, but now school is out. Any suggestions on staying in control while stuck at home? SD (sleeve) 7/11/19 Hw 470 sw444 cw299 gw200
  7. Hey! so I’m an 18yr old female. I had the sips/ loop ds done when I was 17.5. I’m 10 months post op. I keep wondering if there are any others out there who are my age going through this. Although we wls-ers can all relate to each other in some way or another, I was wondering if anyone out there is about my age, still in high school or college or something like that... I’d appreciate getting feedback/ hearing about tour journeys. Stats: Night: 5”4” HW:275 SW:270 CW:180 GW:145 Surgery date: July 17 2019
  8. I was sleeved in nov 2017 and lost 120 lbs then I fell pregnant and just had my baby nov 2019. I did fairly well during my pregnancy and only put on 22 lbs.. since giving birth, I was put on antidepressants for PPD and have had a raging appetite and have definitely gained back some weight. With the gyms being closed and raising an infant on my own, I haven’t been taking the best care of myself or making good food decisions. PLEASE help me get back on track! How can I start the weight loss again? I am miserable and want to be healthy for my baby boy 😭
  9. I wish I would have known that having gastric bypass really wasn't going to be anything like I thought it would be. My journey has been very different than the youtube videos I binged watched and it's been significantly easier than I thought. Easy is probably not the right word, but problem free. Basically I can eat anything, nothing makes me sick except maybe eggs and sometimes anything with too much oil like salmon. I have only experienced dumping in terms of a rapid heartbeat with upset stomach but NOTHING like I read about. I am almost 1.5 years out and have never thrown up, not once. I can eat steak, rice, pasta, bread, no problem. I just dont have any of the scary problems I read about. So if I would have known I would have done it 10 years ago!! I had severe acid reflux before the surgery and NONE after. So yes it's been the best thing I ever did for myself. As far as skin, sure you'll have saggy skin but it sure as hell beats being 100 pounds overweight.

    Electrolytes

I was sleeved in November 2019. And I try to get fluids in but plain water makes me sick, so I add flavor and that'll usually last about one bottle of water before I start feeling sick on water again.. and I know that being dehydrated can cause many issues and one of them being nauseous because the body is lacking electrolytes. So I wasn't sure if that could be causing it and maybe my body just isn't absorbing much... Idk but I'm miserable

    Any new surgery dates yet?

I think a lot of us did. I gained 10 pounds in 2 months working from home and losing half my daily activity. However, in the first 3 days of my milk diet I have lost 7 pounds versus the 7 pounds in 7 days the first time in March before I got canceled when I had been a lot more disciplined about avoiding carbs and doing 2 shakes a day before starting. So my excess weight is coming off faster with this extreme restriction, but I expect it to slow down soon as my body is done being shocked from 2 meals a day (kept my breakfast shake) and 2 snacks to milk, broth, and water only. And of course, I'm starving and feel like crap doing it this time since I was eating more before. I'm at the "OMG, you get unlimited green veggies, 2 salads, or 4 ounces of lean meat a day?!! Not fair!!" stage because I love that stuff but am allowed 0 solids for 2 weeks pre and 2 weeks post.
  13. Aaah so the hospital require is perhaps more about the driving....I had a five minute walk to the hospital from my accommodation and arranged an for an uber driver (who did work outside of uber) to pick me up. I found him on gumtree when I had an endscope prior to the surgery a few weeks before, as it was a day procedure I definitely needed someone to pick me up then and they had to come to the ward after the hospital had called them. Following the surgery I was able to call him and meet him downstairs at the drive through pick up point. If my bag hadn't been a little heavy I would have walked back to my hotel. He took me to the airport the next day. Once home, I probably shouldn't have driven but my car was at the airport, it was a 10 minute drive on a back road with no traffic. Can you tell your friend you will be having a hernia or gall bladder surgery?

    Any new surgery dates yet?

My surgery has not been scheduled yet. Everything is approved, but I am told there is a 6-8 week waiting list now because of the covid-19 virus. I am so anxious to get this done! I hate having to wait indefinitely.
  15. Ok so I am 10 days post op and the constipation is real 2 days ago I thought I had it worked out after 2 days of max dosage of colase and a suppoitory but now its back and even more vengeful. After the last bout I stopped taking any medication that had constipating side effects because no amount of pain or nausea is worth this. Probably TMI but it is like rock hard... Any suggestions? How long does this last?

A year and a half post op

a 10-20 lb gain after you hit your lowest weight is actually very common. That's why some people intentionally go 10-20 lbs below their goal, to give themselves a cushion in case they have the infamous "rebound". also, being able to handle a whole slice of pizza given how far out you are from surgery isn't unusual, either. I can usually handle two pieces now (depending on how big the slices are). This is opposed to half a large pizza, which I used to be able to eat before surgery. I have to average 1500-1700 calories a day to maintain my weight. Too many days over that, and my weight starts heading north. That range is going to vary for everyone, though - some can eat more, some less. If you're not happy where you are and want to lose more weight, then calculate how many calories a day you're currently eating, and cut back from that. I don't think I eat much differently now than a lot of my never-been-overweight women friends who watch their weight. Which is, of course, a lot more than I ate the first few months post-surgery. When I go out to a restaurant, I'll have a slice or two of pizza. Or I'll order an appetizer or a salad. Or I'll order an entree and eat half of it. but again, if you're not happy with where you're at, then you'll need to create a calorie deficit in order to start losing again.

    Revision time

I know what ya mean about losing too low and looking sickly. When I hit 164 my mom said I needed to stop. My face was drawn in and the skin was worse too ! I would actually like to hit 160 and hold there. I figure it will take me 3 months to lose 25 lb. I had already started struggling just to get a few pounds off and it sucks because a year ago I could do it without too much issue. So yes, I will be sticking to the 5 lb rule which worked very well for me until I decided to use covid as an excuse to gain 10 lbs !
  18. I can't get over how well things have gone for me. It shows that if you really commit and dedicate yourself to a new way of life you can achieve anything. i spent half my life overweight and obese and never could see the end of the tunnel until I found out about health insurance will cover most of my surgery here in Australia. My highest weight got up to 322 in 2018 and I felt sick looking in the mirror, was so unhealthy and unfit. i researched everything for months before I found the right surgeon for me and it was so refreshing to find a surgeon who actually cares and I didn't have too many actual prerequisites for surgery really. my BMI was 43 and I had multiple co-morbidities and now my BMI is 22.7 It was a pretty simple process took about 3 months and starting Weight was at 322lbs; I knew I had 3 months wait so I decided myself to start my diet early and I was able to shed 65lbs before surgery and was 257 surgery day Oct 28th 2019. and today 8.5 months since I started my diet and 6.5 months post surgery my lowest weight this week was 168lbs 😊 I've pretty much been in maintenance now a few weeks anyway most days weighing in between 168-170 and feel like a brand new man. i just want everyone to know it is possible to reach your goals as I exceeded all mine. i barely recognise myself when I look in the mirror. I've added before and after photos below feel free to comment.

    Revision time

I was at 150 for about 2-3 years (my lowest point was 138, but it gradually went back up and I settled at 150 for a very long time - which was great because I think 138 was way too low for me. I could see every rib and my face looked awful. 150 was actually the perfect weight for me). But last fall I was abroad for the whole month of October, and then came back in time for the holidays. By the first of January, I was at 160. And freaked. I've been really working at getting that off because I want to be back down to 150, but it is S-L-O-W going - about 1-2 lbs a month. But since I am, according to the BMI chart, 3 to 4 lbs "overweight" (depending on the day), I wasn't too surprised by that. So hopefully by July or so I'll be back to where I want to be. a word to the wise - once you get to where you want to be, do whatever you can to avoid gaining weight. It is a b*tch to take off, even if it's just 5 or 10 lbs! (I used to roll my eyes at these normal weight or slightly overweight women who would complain about how hard it was to lose five lbs. HA! I could have done that in a weekend! But now I get it...)
  20. Hello everyone, I honestly never do this but I'm beyond desperate and need to see if anyone has in the past or is experiencing what I am. I had gastric sleeve done end of Oct of 2018 and on 2019 I had revision done to bypass. I have suffered from GERD since I was 16 and I am now 44. The reason I mention this is because I had revision done supposedly because my GERD was causing extreme burning sensations im my throat and mouth. Well here it is 7 months after my revision and the sensations and feelings I had are back again at full force and even worse. I honestly do not know of this is even GERD at this point anymore. I am going to try to explain exactly what it is I feel. It feels like my mouth and throat are literally burned and scalded like if you drank something to hot. I also smell a burning smell almost all the time. These feelings progress through my day and get worse and worse as I eat and drink throughout the day. I have noticed chewing gum helps especially the mint type and if I drink it subsides for a little bit but then gets even worse. This contradicts everything about GERD because GERD is supposed to get worse when you chew gum or at least that's what my GI said. Also even if I go to bed like this it doesn't wake me up like you would think with the burning. I know what heartburn feels like dealing with it I was 16 this isn't heartburn. I'm miserable all the time. I cry myself to sleep because no one can figure what is going on. I feel like no doctors understand or believe me. I honestly have no idea what to do at this point. I've tried googling my symptoms and cant seem to find anything. As much as I love the fact that I've lost all this weight I honestly regret it. I want to feel normal again. To not be suffering all day and trying to act like nothing is wrong when I'm in so much pain and discomfort. Please if anyone is experiencing this or has HELP I'm begging.

    Going Vegan After Sleeve

Congratulations for working towards a plant based diet. I am 5 months post op, and it is absolutely doable! As for protein, there are so many options. Let me count some ways....broccoli, beans, legumes, nuts, peanut butter, chia seeds, hemp hearts(omega 3), nutritional yeast, tofu, tempeh, setian, viral wheat gluten, most plant based pastas, quinoa, sprouted grains, oats, nut butters...ooh boy! That was a lot 🤣😂 There really is a lot of options out there. I have started to make my own unmeat crumbles. I didn’t learn this way overnight, but I didn’t get this fat overnight neither. My thinking on this WLS for me, is I took a drastic change to lose the weight, and I took a drastic change to keep it off. I comend anyone who is changing there lifestyle after this surgery. My surgery date was 12-12-19, and I have lost 68 lbs. I am living my best life, and I feel the best I have ever felt!

    Hate bypass

That was my weight loss about the 6 month post sleeve weight, which is when I stopped posting. I lost another 10 lbs , then gained about 10 back in the last year once my GERD got really bad. Almost 55 lbs, gained back 10, now lost 15. So, all and all 5 lbs less then before GERD. Original BMI 35.5
  24. Well, from my experience, developing or worsening GERD after the sleeve is on a case-by-case basis. While there are some studies out there that indicate GERD suffers have a higher incidence of GERD or worsening GERD after the sleeve, there are similar studies showing the risk of developing or worsening GERD is negligible. A good friend and associate of mine had a lap band and got GERD so bad that she developed Barrett's esophagus. Her surgeon did a sleeve on her and her GERD is all but gone and the Barrett's resolved. Me, I also had a lap band and suffered from reflux the entire time (later I found that my band was slipped, but that's a whole other post). I DIDN'T have any signs of chronic reflux when I went to the SAME doctor but was warned that there are risks of GERD. Cutting to the chase, we decided that the risk was minimal and I had the sleeve. About a month or so after surgery, I started getting heartburn. This heartburn was easily remedied by PPIs. However, I still suffer from flare-ups of esophagitis (long term inflammation from GERD) and take Carafate. I also practice A LOT of lifestyle modifications to reduce my symptoms. Currently, my GI doc and I are investigating long term management. He mentioned the LINX system, but I don't want anything implanted in my body (I didn't have a good response to the lap band and its components). SO...there's another procedure that uses radio waves to thicken the lower esophageal sphincter. It's called STRETTA. I'm planning on doing the Stretta procedure. My insurance has denied and I've exhausted my appeals. Right before the COVID-19 crisis started, we were in discussions for cash payment. So, we're on hold right now. My symptoms are actually pretty good right now, so it's not urgent or anything. BUT, I don't want to be on PPIs for the rest of my life and I'm DARN TIRED of sleeping on a 12-inch wedge.
  25. No. For a while I couldn't break 800 calories until about 9-10 months. My injury occurred about 6 months out of surgery, curbing my exercise substantially and then depression hit and I lost myself for a good 3 months towards the end of 2019. I stopped tracking in my app but I would put myself at 1200-1400 calories during that time. Got it together in January when I was about a year out and by then I'd lost 110 lbs.
