    banded on the 7th

i've lost 9 pounds so far, but all week it has been crazy up and down by about 10 pounds due to all the swelling, and everything else...i know it feels like without eating or drinking much you should be 20 pounds down by now, but our bodies have to adjust. hang in there...they say the first 4 weeks are about healing and the rest is about losing....so try not to worry too much for now

    ANZAC Day downunder..

Marion Thanks for sharing the recipe. I wondered what Anzac Biscuits were. I am having a good weekend, even though it is rainy here this week. I finally cleaned up a mess of paperwork yesterday and managed to get in a nice walk between the rain showers. I got myself an I Pod, and it is helping me to want to walk more, because I love listening to the music. I also joined a waking club that starts in a few weeks. I hope to meet some people in my area that like to walk for exercise. A health club in the area is sponsoring the walking club and we will walk around various parks in the area. I did a 50 min cardio workout DVD this morning. Oh my, two years ago I certainly would not have been able to do that! I am going to pick-up my Mother from the retirement center and have her for lunch today. So I made a big fruit salad, crab cakes and wild rice. I don't eat rice often, but this is whole grain and should be pretty healthy. Have a good week. And keep up the good work! Having only one cookie once in a while is O.K. We can't give up everything - all the time. Karen

    june 13th getting sleeved!

I honestly only went to one and didn't like it. I keep trying to attend but I travel almost 3 weeks out of the month and its hard for me to get to them
  5. My doctor told me week 2 I can eat mushy food/pureed, so I can begin this tomorrow morning. I am NOT going to be eating any meat pureed- gross. However, I'm curious to what others did for this week? What's acceptable? What were you able to eat? I'm so glad I made it through the Liquid Phase! There were days I thought I wouldn't!

    TWO WEEKS

I am your surgery buddy too! Started the preop diet Monday. Not eating regular food is totally making this real. I have my final consult with my surgeon tomorrow and my education class and preop testing next week. Ready to move over to the losers bench with everyone.

    Profession after surgery?

I was a bread-a- holic. I loved my bread! I was so hoping that this surgery would change my tastes, and it has. I find that I no longer crave bread, Pasta, pizza, lasagna, french fries, pastries, anything with simple carbs. meat is what I crave now...and veggies. I've eaten more salads in the past month than I had in five years. I'm on a stall right now, but I know my body is just readjusting, so I'm not worried.
  10. I had a gastric sleeve in September 2014, four days later was taken to the ER and life flighted to Seattle 5 hours away. I had a leak in my stomach where when he removed part of my stomach and put it back together an area didn't staple all the way creating a leak in my stomach or a hole. I was very sick for over a year. It would not heal. After a year a surgeon said it's not healing on it's own so we can do open surgery where i remove most of your stomach to cut out the leak. It ended up being a by-pass surgery. Then after 6 months I fell sick again with fever, pain, etc and went to the ED. They found another leak in a different part of my intestines where I was sewn back together at some junction. It was a 10 percent chance of happening with a revision surgery. So, since then I have had many endoscopy's where they have attempted to go down stitch, cauterize, glue the hole to no avail. I have a chronic hole that leaks into the sterile part of my abdomen, I have been wearing a drain tube to collect the fluid the hole puts out of my abdomen for almost 3 years. Without being able to drain out the fluid I would become sick and possible septic again. It's been over three years of misery. I have been being treated at a large hospital in Seattle all this time. They cannot fix me. There has to be other people that have had these issues and has somehow been able to get it fixed. I am looking for specialists, ideas, anything. Thank you so much!!

    Frustrated with Fills!!

It's been a week since I had it done... I have had heart burn non stop. Is that normal? Will it ever go away?
  12. Ok, I had another fill last week. I had originally had one a month ago and was too tight so had .75 removed from the original 1 cc that was put in. I was having minor heartburn. Had a gastric swallow and all is fine. I still felt like I could eat more than I should so went back last week and had .25 put back in. Now, starting to get very slight heartburn again. Also can only eat about 3 to 4 bites and start feeling full. I thought that was a good sign to be at the "sweet spot" but not sure with the heartburn. Anybody else have this issue? I have a 11 cc band and am at almost 9 cc's now. I feel if I take out the .25 then I will be at the same point again, feeling like I am eating more than I should. It's really hard to pinpoint the best place to be. For me anyway.
  13. Hi everyone, I'm hoping I can get some good advice here. I was banded on 8/14; went for my first fill on 9/24 (3 cc's in 10 cc band). Today I am still very hungry and feeling very little restriction. I called my doc's office to schedule another fill. I was told that I could not get another fill until after November 19th (90 days post op). The first appt. available was 12/4! Does this sound right at all? In reading the boards, it seems most docs will give another fill if the patient requires it. I'm getting a little discouraged, although I am down 30 pounds since surgery date. Any advice would be appreciated. ML sw 295 cw 270 (?? - haven't weighed in 3 weeks; don't want to get discouraged)

    food problem

People often fall off the wagon. The trick to success with your band is that you are determined enough to get back on the wagon. So you messed up one day. OK. Next day starts back 'doing the right thing'. If you totally shuck your doctors orders, you may surely pay for that in lack of weight loss or band complications. If you are really serious about wanting to lose weight, you will have to make the changes necessary to allow the band to work for you. This includes a 6 week healing phase to allow you stomach NOT to grind and churn to digest harder foods. A gradual return to solids including hard Proteins, not soft foods that allow more calories to slide by your band, exercise at least 30 minutes 3/5 days a week and Water, water, water. Please be kind to yourself and your band. The stomach 'growlies' are inevitable, but don't necessarily mean you are starving. Pretty soon, they subside and you can get your mind on other things, like riding a bike or shopping for hours because you've lost enough that you can walk for hours. Getting your head in the right place is tough, we can all agree with that, but it will come, if you meet it halfway! Good luck to you!

    getting well

See, age is an issue for me also, I am now 63:thumbup1: a very cool 63 thank you, but, I was worried about the "senior" thing. I have been out of town for a few weeks and have not posted so you might not recognise me. I was 63 when I had my sleeve in April. I now have lost 98#'s and am doing super. All my blood work is now in normal range and I am able to do so much more than before. My breathing is good and I haven't used my inhaler in months. You will be so glad you have made this decision. Good luck on your journey.
  18. I go back and forth and my surgery is in a week. I wonder if I can really do this and achieve what I have seen others do. But I KNOW that I can and I know this is right for me because I look at all of my attempts in the past that have been unsuccessful and I just can't face that anymore. Besides the statistic about 98% or something like that that try to lose the weight on their own end up gaining it back in the long term. I need something that's going to keep me accountable to myself for life. Good luck with your decision!
  19. Im just starting my revision process, from lap band to gastric sleeve. I'm waiting on the insurance approval. I have UHC Choice Plus. I'm really excited this change. Not that I don't like my lap band, cause it has helped me to lose some weight, but I'm just not where I want to be. I have been at the same weight for a year now and that is 218. I started at 261 three years ago. So I need some change!! I'm just hoping I get approved!!!

    new to all of this

One of the members of this group announced, yesterday that she had lost 150 lbs. May others have lost 100 or more lbs. I've only been at this 5 weeks and have lost almost 50 lbs. I don't know anyone that underwent this surgery that wasn't at least a little nervous, but it isn't very difficult at all. I went into the prep room. laid on a bed, they wheeled me into the OR everyone said hello and I woke up in the recovery room, Just that easy. Relax, it's a snap. Good luck.
  21. I'm a week post-op, would I be ok with egg drop and wonton soup? I'm so sick of Gatorade and Crystal light, I need taste.
  22. Hi hope someone can clear this up i.m confused... the 2 week post op says Clear Liquids but in my book it says for lunch i can have hearty Soup blended. Is Heinz veg soup and the likes ok blended up or does it mean cup a Soups? TIA
  23. I was sleeved on 10/21. surgery went great no problems. I am a bit itchy on my belly but put some abt cream and that helps. my HW was 263 surgery date 253 and now 235.5. the thing is I have stayed that weight for a week. I definatly feel good but i am surprised the weight is not going down. I am seeing the DR. on thursday and i will see what he has to say. I do feel hungar but love the fact i can only eat small amounts. A day after surgery my BP was very high 179/102 and I had bad headachs called the DR and he put me back on my bp meds and now its normal. I live in Charlotte NC and would love to go to a support group just to stay on track and meet other sleevers.
