5 Weeks after surgery and not loosing a pound...
BLERDgirl replied to anaarnaiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It may just be a stall. There really is no rhyme or reason to them. It's your body adjusting to the changes going on. Just keep working your program, you may even try upping your calories and/or protein. I know for me having protein before and after a workout produces good results so I make a large protein shake with greek yogurt and have half before and half after. -
Thanks for your response and the links. I am about 5 weeks out. I am typically a fast eater but I use a bariatric app now to time my eating. (Which felt so silly until I realized I needed to take more time) I track everything less for the calories and more to make sure I hit that protein goal so I know I am usually hitting the 60g or slightly surpassing it for 3 weeks straight now. Fluids was a struggle and hitting 60oz is hard for me. I get into that range most days like it might come out 50ish oz a day on average for the past two weeks so maybe that is the problem (I did admit this to my doctor as well) I don't drink at all after eating I figured out quickly that was a ticket to barftown. Meats are just not my friend. Chicken specifically my stomach just automatically rejects it in any form including pureed. Fish will stay down but I'm only gonna get a couple of bites from that. Most my protein is coming from eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes. So I think when I said that to my surgeon that was her red flag for gallbladder but I guess I'll find that out in April. I am not on the strict only three meals a day routine they set for me and my surgeon is okay with that because I'm only getting a few bites for meal times unless it straight up broth then I can do 4oz. I kind of just eat every 4 hours and use a food scale to figure out how much I ate each time. However reading your post I think maybe I'll stay away from the scale until I can hit the water goal more consistently. My next appointment is 6 weeks out (I don't think I can wait until then to see where I am because if I step on that scale six weeks later and I'm still 199 my heart will just shatter) and because I go through the VA I think that might be my last or I have to pay out of pocket so I am panicking more that I'm not on track. Like if I was progressing better I would feel more confident without that support and I know when I only have the VA to lean on then I am pretty much on my own no one is going to help me trouble shoot there. Sleeved 5/25/17: why do I feel like I am eating too much?
2_tee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am buying my 2nd week mark in 3 days but I feel like I am able to take in a lot more that what it seems I should be. I have no problem getting water down (some gas bubbles here and there but nothing painful) and same thing with my protein drinks. Now that I can eat yogurt I and able to eat at least 4 yogurts a day (they are 5.3oz each) I eat 4 which give me 60g of protein and I have been drinking my water. But I haven't any restriction or "full" feeling. Also once I moved to yogurt I haven't lost anything for 4 days now... is any of this normal? -
Omg!!! No more soup!!!
aloudwhisper replied to aloudwhisper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am eating pudding, yogurt, milk, jello and popsicles, but I want something fulfilling. The soup is just not cutting it. I feel like I'm hungry in an hour, and I have to hold off, because I feel like I am hungry too soon. I just don't like that hungry feeling. -

Sounds like an easy substitute for cucumber sauce without the draining of the cucumbers. You peel the cuke, right? Sounds really yummy. Man, I miss Pita bread sometimes. I do nuts (almonds), chicken (which is really hard for me to eat just yet) cottage cheese, yogurt, and Boost High Protien (15gm per serving). Surely I get in other protiens? Wow, maybe I'm not eating enough protien? OH! and Tuna, which I haven't had in several days but it's good, too. Good luck! thanks for the food lube idea, Bandit! Sounds yummy OH! I use Italian dressing in my tuna for lube. Beats mayo sometimes. Also, salsa, ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, gravy. I don't know just how much I eat in a day. One yogurt, one boost, 2 ounces of chicken breast at the most, 3 ounces of nuts, all in a day. Other days I may substitute one of the other protiens...how many grams of protien is that? dunno.

Yesterday was the first day for me, and in the beginning I was fine, but by the end of the night I was STARVING LOL This is a breakdown of what I can have: Breakfast: SF carnation instant Breakfast 1 light yopliat yogurt any flavor. A.m. Snack: Atkins Advantage shake (any flavor) Lunch: Cambell's Soup at Hand-Classic Tomato SF jell-o chocolate swirl pudding SF Jell-o Gelatin (any flavor) PM snack: 8 oz V8 Dinner: 1/2 c low fat cottage cheese 1 C creamed (strained) soup Regular popsicle Bedtime snack No Sugar added fudgesicle This was the sample menu, but I have been following that. I can't go over more than 150 carbs per day and 50 to 60 grams of Protein a day. My hubby hid my scale this morning LOL I told him last night I wanted to weigh the morning of my surgery. I'd LOVE to have a salad by the end of the day :smile2:) We will make it though! It will be worth it. I keep thinking about possibly having only one or two incisions! That's my motivation!

Yes when food gets stuck, it does hurt! I have been banded since Jan and until this last fill I didnt have problems with being stuck. I can not and do not eat bread. I eat corn bread once in a while bec it is crumbly it goes down easier. I have already thrown up twice this week. I tried to eat a corn dog and it got stuck and the other was on eggs. The stuck feeling is a lot of pressure on my chest and my upper back. I also keep having to spit because it will not go down. I vomit to get relief and then the rest of the day you can only do liquids. The band is tricky, one time you can eat a cetain food with out any problem, then the next time it gets stuck. The band also gets tighter when you are stressed or having a cycle. It is really my fault for getting stuck because I know better than to eat a corn dog. It is very tight in the mornings and I can only eat yogurt or cottage cheese. You will learn to live with out certain foods. It is worth it in the end. I am seventy one pounds lighter. Best Wishes

How much are you consuming?
Airstream88 replied to dannieeliza's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 7 weeks out and my NUT has us eating 5 mini-meals a day. I try to drink at least 1/2 Premier Protein shake (5.5 oz) in the morning. Second mini-meal has some type of meat (chicken, meatball, lean lunch meat) - 1 1/2 oz with 1/4-1/2 multi-grain or fruit serving . Third meal might be a cheese stick, Parmesan crisps, hummus or yogurt dip with cucumber slices, with 1/4 - 1/2 multigrain or fruit serving. Fourth meal is supper at home - 1 1/2 oz of meat (chicken, pork, etc) and some type of veggie - 1/4 cup and Fifth meal is the rest of my premier Protein Shake or glass of Fairlife milk. -
How was your recovery 1 week after surgery

I copied and pasted the list just in case the url didn't work. I didn't need any of the sterile 4x4's since I was glued. I did get some liquid benadryl for itching which sometimes happens with the pain meds. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/post-op-checklists-things-hav-before-surgery-14814/ Here's a list our support group came up with - Pre-Surgery Shopping List - by LBSG Patients Here's a list that some of the patients suggested at some of our support group meetings after their surgeries. It’s a list of things that they wish they had before the surgery but didn't think of till later. Remember this is from the PATIENTS - if you have questions or are in doubt - PLEASE call the office and leave a message for the Dietitian. Feel free to send me your suggestions to add to our list. Hope these suggestions are helpful. • Popsicles (SF as needed) • Crystal Light • Jello (sugar free as needed) • Gatorade • Bouillon • Bottled Water – some like Propel, Fruit 2-0, or plain • Cream of Wheat • creamy Soups • applesauce • yogurt - Dannon Lite N' Fit • Ensure, Boost, Glucerna - or whatever Protein drink the Dietitian asked you to drink based on your history • chicken/beef/veggie broths (low sodium as needed) • Protein powder for shakes • frozen fruits for Protein Shakes • soups & broths • liquid Tylenol • liquid Gas-X or Phazyme • heating pad • "Imagine" Soups - in cartons. (Potato Leek, Butternut, Squash, Corn, Creamy Tomato....and more. They are considerably lower in sodium than Campbell’s soups.) • chicken – cook before surgery, and save the broth, and freeze it in very small containers. Less sodium than store brands, if you have a salt problem. • Check if your medications are “crushable” (able to be crushed without causing problem with effectiveness) - Nancy • Soup-at-Hand - soups - for creamy stage - great "comfort food" • Small pudding cups (SF/FF) or yogurt - I would take a spoonful to get my meds to slide down easier - Nancy • Pill cutter • Chewable Vitamins • Tylenol or Motrin on hand. Sometimes all I needed was something just to take the edge off instead of Vicodin. Also, one of my incisions was irritated from my bra. Bandaids or gauze and tape were a must for me. Have plenty of Soup on hand. Something warm always makes you feel better - Cindy • Chicken – cook before surgery, and save the broth, and freeze it in very small containers. Less sodium than store brands, if you have a salt problem - Toni • Post-operatively I wished I had liquid Tylenol or Motrin on hand. Sometimes all I needed was something just to take the edge off instead of Vicodin. Also, one of my incisions was irritated from my bra. Bandaids or gauze and tape were a must for me. Have plenty of soup on hand. Something warm always makes you feel better. Hope these suggestions are helpful - Del • I would have wanted my meds right away. I had a terrible time finding the meds in a liquid form. Either check with the pharmacy beforehand to see if they stock them or if possible have the Dr. order them one-day pre-op so that you will have them ready when you return home. – Cindy • get rid of all the foods in the house you are not to eat, before you go to the hospital • make sure you have lots of fluids to drink afterwards - and for when you go back to work • buy all the groceries you will need for at least 2 weeks after surgery __________________ Nancy* Banded: 9/24/04 -
How was your recovery 1 week after surgery
Desertbunnee replied to too much of me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too, was banded on the 28th. It was really rough at first with the pain, but each day has gotten better and today, I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill. The first 3 days, I used gas-x strips, which I think really helped. I feel pretty much back to normal now, with just a tiny bit of discomfort at the port site. My dr put me on soft foods starting 7/1, and I have tolerated them very well. I typicall eat hb egg with turkey sausage and then chicken or fish for my other meals. (all meals are protein only, with soft cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt also being options) A good tip I learned from the nutritionist should your food feel stuck is to swallow a bite of yogurt. She says some even eat a couple of bites at the beginning of their meal to coat the esophagus. I believe that my stomach is no longer swollen inside so there really is no restriction, and basically I'm "dieting" using my own willpower for the next month till I get my fill. I'm down 10.5 pounds in a week and another 7 post op for a 17.5 total. I'm liking that, but I must admit the first few days were so hard I was wondering if I'd made a mistake. I don't think that way anymore. The way our psychologist explained it yesterday is that there are 3 stages, in stage one (prefill) you are a dieter, stage two (losing weight) you are a weight manager and stage 3 (goal) you are a health manager. Makes sense to me and makes it easier to navigate through these testy waters right now! -

I prefer FAGE, and add a shot of sf torani hazelnut and a few slivered almonds for crunch... also ground flax seed is nice. You can also flavor the plain yogurt with sf pudding mix. You'll want to avoid the yogurts with sugar, of course. You can also add a spoon of no sugar added all fruit preserves, I think. Enjoy!
-
I really like the SF Torani syrups and the SF Monin ones. Oikos is a great yogurt. I like Voskos, too. And a Stonybrook greek organic one. I'll have to look for Fage as I have never noticed that before and sometimes I go to Walmart. Maybe the availability is different in different areas of the country.

Day 6 first lesson learned!
honk replied to Chris A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strickly my opinion but you are very soon from surgery to have very full feeling after eating. Personally I would either measure your Protein or step back from mushies like canned meat. I would try Greek yogurt, cottage or ricotta cheese. Many on here were on Clear liquids for 7 days then full liquids for another 7. Personally I would eat more servings of soft mushies rather than fewer servings of firmer mushies. Again just my opinion. -
December 2013 Need some help
I'm losing it! replied to caitiegirly07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I hope this might help you. I bought from Amazon (you can find in any drug store), a pill dispenser that is Sunday thru Saturday and has FOUR (4) spots for your daily pills. This allows me to seperate my Vitamins with Iron from my Calcium citrate etc. My boxes have Morning/Noon/Evening/Bed on them.....I normally take things around 9 am/1pm/5pm/8pm ish..........this dispenser is one big one that allows you to POP OUT that daily only and leave the rest at home...so, I have them on the go with me. I do my pills weekly along with my hubbys etc...it's easy, handy and I don't have to open up a zillion bottles each day, all day. For food ideas.....I am 6 weeks post op, gastric bypass. I have no issues with food. Doing a high Protein greek yogurt in am, lots of fish, shrimp, turkey and chicken. Plenty of cheese too. It's all about the protein first! I am doing 1/3 cup per mini-meal. I am doing three meals a day, getting in TONS of Water (all zero calorie) and getting in about 65-80 grams of protein per day. Sometimes, I only get in about 50 grams.......it's tricky, but it's working! I am 37.5 pounds down in exactly six weeks....and I am losing one pound a day right now, (for the past 7 days). I hit a 13 day stall and was so upset! I was eating too many calories. So, I am down to 800 cal's max per day and I am losing like crazy. Good luck to you!! -
I'm on day 5 of my 14-day pre-op diet. My surgeon/nutritionist is pretty much: 3 Protein shakes per day plus any non-caffeinated non-sugar liquids, including broth, decaf coffee, mio Water enhancers, Jello, etc. Basically no solids, though jello and non-fat low-carb greek yogurt are okay. Protein drinks =========== I make my own protein shakes using: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/2 to 1 scoop Protein Powder (vanilla or chocolate) 1/4 cup non-fat unflavored greek yogurt 1 Tbs sugar free Torani syrup (I have like 15 flavors now...S'Mores, Cookies 'n Cream, Butterscotch, Peach, etc.) I have one of those blender bottles. Saves a fortune in protein drinks making them myself. Broths/Soups =========== I'm being creative with broths and adding different spices to different meals and some egg whites to protein the broth up a bit. So adding a bit of low sodium soy sauce + ginger + white pepper for asian-inspired or garlic powder + cumin + cilantro + onion powder + chili powder for mexican-inspired. Just to change things up a bit. Popsicles! ========= I'm also stocked up on boxes of sugar free popsicles which help with the 'solid food' cravings. Jello ==== Ah, we all hate jello. I mix some sugar free flavors and whip in some vanilla protein powder to add some protein. I'll be doing more of that post-surgery when I get to that eating phase. Jello also helps with the "solid food" cravings. Hope that helps

My NUT cancelled the day before I start my two week liquid diet.. Help!
SleevyD posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my nutritionist has taken a vacation and I'm scheduled to begin my two week liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. Usually my appointments refresh my motivation, and I really needed this appointment because I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed as it is. I have a basic guideline listing full liquids: hot cereals, cream soups, yogurt, pudding, custard, milk, sherbet. And clear liquids. But it doesn't say if I do full liquids for a week and switch, or what to do. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated! What did you eat... I mean drink during this diet? -
I am 6 days post op and was wondering about yogurt.....a few people i have talked too said they lived on it....im doing cream soups and stuff as well but was jw if the yogurt is in fact okay to do.
-
I got sleeved 12/10. 7 day clear liquid which ended 12/7 after my one week check up. I was scared to try soft foods but my mom insisted saying she doesn't want me to become malnourished. So I tried Triple Zero Dannon Oikos Yogurt..I was drinking water before hand and during. I got 3 half spoonfuls in before it came back up. It was the worst stomach pain I'd felt in a while. It was all white and yogurt. Now I'm afraid to try it again and I'm afraid I might've damaged my stomach in someway. Someone give me some feedback please. I'm 21 and extremely scared I made the wrong choice.

Fortunately the hiccups went away after the second day. O had diarreah yesterday and today but I think its due to the fact that I'm already having light soups and Greek yogurt. Other than that I feel better. A bit weak thought. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery Monday
Schmincke replied to Mommy2Three83's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is the day after yours. Good luck to us both! Here is what I am allowed the first week after surgery - but remember every surgery/surgeon may be different and require different things: Priority #1: 64+ ounces of Water a day. Priority #2: 60+ grams of Protein a day, using liquids like pre-made Protein shakes (>15gm protein, <5gm fat, <5gm sugar per serving). Main ingredient must be whey, soy, casein, milk, hemp, or albumin (egg) protein. Cheapest source is "Double Protein Milk" which is 1 cup low fat milk + ⅓ cup nonfat dry milk/powdered milk. Week 1: pureed liquid diet - high protein, sugar free, low fat. Sip on liquids, food should be the consistency of applesauce or even runnier. No fizzy drinks. For example:Protein:shakes or double-protein milk pureed fish, seafood, poultry, meat pureed eggs, egg substitute pureed cottage cheese, yogurt (no sugar), cocoa (sf) pureed beans/lentils, pureed/strained black bean Soup strained low fat cream soup Vegetables and fruits:No raw or uncooked vegetables or fruits Baby food "Stage 1" Pureed water-packed fruit or cooked vegetables V-8 or tomato juice as long as NO sugar (i.e. V-8 Splash may have sugar) fruit juice <½ cup per day StarchesCooked strained Cereal like baby food Mashed sweet or white potatoes - can add yogurt or milk to make them more mushy Soup mixed with Protein powder sugar-free popsicles Now please keep in mind that I have not had my surgery yet either! A lot of sleevers swear by the sugar free popsicles, and they count as Fluid by my doctor. And some people say water is hard to swallow unless you add Mia Drops. Good luck! -
What is this going to be like?
Beck90 replied to Beck90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI. The Protein shake was Breakfast and lunch combo. The Jello was a snack. The veggie salad was supper and the cottage cheese was another snack. That was a full day of food and I stuck within my limits. My Protein Shake kept me full for several hours and I added fruit and yogurt and stuff to it plus the milk that's why it was so high lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Difference between Liquid and Purée
RickM replied to wwboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems like the docs can define things differently (and whether it really makes much of a difference is anybody's guess.) My doc didn't discriminate between liquids, purees, mushes and soft Proteins, but just let us move between them during that first month as our tolerances dictated. It sounds like your interpretation is reasonable, though yogurt isn't usually pourable (except for some of the yogurt drinks.) If in doubt (beyond checking with the doc or nut), you can thin things out a bit with Water or milk, or just see how the thicker consistencies go as they are acceptable on some programs and there is so much overlap between the different programs. Don't be afraid to call the doc's office with any such questions, as if things aren't clear to you, they likely aren't clear to lots of other patients on the program, and the instructions should clarify such things, and if they don't they should be rewritten so that they do. -

Lol! Be positive-you can throw protein shakes in that ice cream maker, or Greek yogurt....maybe your new tummy will like having smaller toaster oven cooked meals! They make baking sets just for toaster ovens:)
