Cut Calories and Excercise and no weight loss
bwillia08 replied to bwillia08's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hi All, so here is the update from about a week of adjusting my diet. Started about 269-270. For the past week I've tracked my carb intake at 50-60/ day. BF: Vega protein shake with almond milk snack: half a quest protein bar lunch salad with extra meat snack: nuts or yogurt dinner: chix with veggies no breads, oatmeals or anything like that. I upped my water intake. I could prob seriously decrease my coffee intake. I drink about 20 oz in the morning and maybe 16 throughout the day. Terrible I know. Right now I'm at about 264.5 and I've been working out. Should this have been more? I'm just hoping that I'll keep losing. I really really want to get out of the 260's I've been there for over a year now. Should I still follow up with my Surgeon? Thanks everyone! -
No secrets! Just keep on keepin on! I got stuck again for a few weeks at 188. Now I'm finally in the 170's. I think it is just the nature of the beast for some of us. Hang in there. I promise it will happen! I actually don't eat much yet. I drink premier protein in the mornings, might have a snack of turkey lunch meat in afternoon, maybe, and try to eat 2 ounces of protein for dinner. I usually have a yogurt each day. A triple zero! And lots and lots of water!!! hugs, lolly

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?
TS76 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All, new to this site. I am a 41yr old male, 6'3". HW 445 SW 430 CW 389. I hade gastric sleeve surgery July 31st, 2017. I lost 15 pounds pre surgery eating 1000 calories a day for two weeks. Post surgery I consumed 4oz of broth 3x's daily for the first three days and then switched to 4oz of either cottage cheese, greek yogurt and cream soups for 14 days. Today I started eating soft foods, 4 oz, 3x's a day. I am drinking an average of 90oz of water, daily. In 19 days, post surgery, I am down 41 pounds for a total of 56 pounds. I have had a very good recovery, outside of a major gout flare up 11 days post surgery. I feel great! I haven't had any issues. I wish I would have done this sooner! -

Update - I got my date! Sept 13. Pre-op diet begins August 30. It's not a total liquid diet, I get limited veggies, fruits, yogurt, and shakes, but unlimited broth, sf popsicles, and sf Jello. Still not looking forward to it. Let the countdown begin! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I ate my "lunch" yogurt and melon" too fast today and now my stomach hurts. No nausea, vomiting...but fullness. I think I might not have chewed enough. (not mindful eating). I'm nervous. I'm almost 4 weeks post op. I'm able to drink just fine but I'm afraid to eat. I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

Can I have the recipe for the southwestern ricotta bake? I think I see green chiles! we do soft foods from 14 days out, but it's not all it sounds. It takes me 45 mins to have an inch square of whatever, scrambled egg, smoked salmon, or homemade hamburger. I dont feel it is adding much to my food intake. Still now at 4 weeks out, most of my protein is still powder, Greek yogurt, and bone broth. Chicken didn't work. Too solid to get down. Refried beans is easy to eat, and you can melt cheese over it too.

For me the pain was pretty persistent. Felt a bit like period cramps x10 but over the whole stomach not just the lower abs. Holding a pillow over my tummy to add some pressure helped ease some discomfort. I took my pain meds for 5 days and Tylenol for another 4-5 days. It wasn't unbearable most of the time but very uncomfortable for the first week. The part I liked least about the pain is I had no idea if I was getting full while I was eating yogurt or drinking protein shakes. The only signals I was getting from my tummy were pain and nothing else. If you tolerate pain well I think you'll be just fine. And if you have a lot of pain that's what the meds are for! Use them as needed/directed.

Weakness & shortness of breath
kjfultz1 replied to ladycharizar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ladycharizar, it is definitely normal. I was sleeved on 7/26 and I still get winded doing little that didn't bother me before. I was told that it was due to the decrease in calories. I'm also struggling with the shake. I'm currently in the mushie food stage so instead of drinking a shake I'll have a soft boiled egg and some yogurt to get my protein in. 1 week post-op nausea, hot flashes, no energy
Cober1 replied to Cober1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm able to get my fluid and protein goals with the phenegrine, it's just incredibly unpleasant. My surgeon put me on full fluids when I went home from the hospital originally and it seemed to be going ok but then the hot flashes started yesterday. I've been doing 2 pure protein drinks, around 80oz of water and 4-6 oz of soup spread throughout the day. I probably have 2oz of protein drink or soup every couple of hours then sip water in between. I can't stand the constant sweetness of all the protein drinks but haven't found anything else that has that much protein so I keep defaulting to them. My surgeon said I can have anything that can be pureed to a smooth paste or pourable liquid. I'm scared to try anything past broth, yogurt or protein shakes with all the nausea I'm having though. I think I'll try going back to just water, broth, and tea for a few days. Hopefully it'll help. -
Woman vs. Food, bariatric edition

Try topping your fish with something moist. Salsa, sour cream or yogurt, stewed veggies. Goes down much easier. Yum. -
Lacking the motivation to even walk...
JKC2016 replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sooner you get away from protein shakes and bars and on to real foods the better. Following your doctor recommendations, incorporate tuna, salmon, ground turkey or chicken. Mix or blend in plain Greek yogurt and spices you enjoy. Beans, eggs, cheese sticks, jerky--there are so many tasty and quick ways to eat protein. The trouble with powders and bars is they limit your intake of nutrients and they are sweet and encourage thinking about other sweets. -
Anyone else have this issue???
Airstream88 replied to LauriDJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY last October. I went home on pureed. I mostly ate yogurt, my protein shakes, ricotta bake and sugar free jello and popsicles. I advanced to soft foods (eggs, string cheese, mashed fish, etc) at two weeks and then to most foods (chicken, lunch meat, etc) with some restrictions (seeds, fibrous veggies, steak, etc) at 31 days. You will need to continue drinking the protein shakes for at least a few months in order to get in the required protein. You just can't eat enough at first. Even though I hated all protein shakes, I forced one down every morning to make sure I got enough protein. -
Hello everyone, I am a bit over 2 weeks out and struggling with the Stage 2! My surgeon ok'd me for protein shake, yogurt, pudding, soup, cottage cheese and ricotta- but no scrambled eggs or chicken etc yet. I am lost- have no idea how to spice it up and am getting really bored. I live on ricotta bake, oatmeal with genepro and protein shakes for now. Help!

Sleeved 8/3. Meet with my surgeon tomorrow for 2 week follow up and what should ideally be clearance to move on to soft solids. Down 17 pounds so far. The ricotta Bake has been good to me but I'll be happy to carefully explore different protein and plan-appropriate sustenance moving forward. Any recommendations on best soft cooked meats to try? I keep reading that chicken is difficult on the new tummy? Would love some ideas! (Ricotta Bake seen here modified from its original Italian inspired flavors to be a bit more Southwestern, Greek yogurt added for protein)

Ahh that makes a lot more sense! If you're still of pureed/soft foods, I can see them going down a lot easier and you being able to consume more of them. They're almost like slider foods in that sense. I remember at 4 weeks out I could easily consume 5 ounces of greek yogurt. Make sure you try to differentiate head hunger and real hunger! I think that's one of my biggest struggles right now.

Gastric Leak for 6 Months - Help!

Thank you so much. So far so good. Today had baked potato, no skin, oatmeal and yogurt. Today is better than yesterday, so hope it still goes well. Keep in touch all -
Ok so tomorrow its time to say goodbye to my Lap Band. I feel kinda sad. I remember how excited I was to get it. How driven I was. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Everything was always getting stuck. Couldn't eat yogurt, salad, or cereal. Toward the end even water was coming back up. Sleeve on November 13th! Can't wait to start my new journey.

I am just about 3 weeks post op gastric bypass and looking for more ideas of pureed foods. I am so tired of eggs, refried beans and yogurt. I'm going to try the ricotta bake and smoothies tomorrow, but still need a few ideas to keep it interesting. Can't tolerate tofu or fat free gravy and not allowed to have meat yet. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

Lacking the motivation to even walk...
ShelterDog64 replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's not bad, but can you find some places to slip in some more protein? The protein and the extra calories it brings may bring your energy level up a bit. What are you drinking on the way to work? Make it a protein shake or add some protein powder to your coffee/tea/water. Add some powder to your yogurt, drink a glass of Fairlife milk in the afternoon...whatever you can. Nibble on a protein bar during the day. It's very hard in the first few months to get the nutrition you need without supplementing, in my experience. And I STILL, over a year later, add a 30g scoop of protein to my coffee every single morning. It's like insurance for the rest of the day for me.
