    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Checking in on this thread as I had my 6 month post op visit last week. Labs were great even though I'm not consistent with my vitamins. Weight loss is frustratingly slow but steady at 1.3lb/week. For my NSV, I'm in a size 14, a size I haven't worn since 1984! Therapy is a bit of a slow grind and family life is a bit stressful, but so far, I feel really on track. My downsides are 1) Heartburn, 2) Constipation still, and 3) Hunger has come back some. It takes a long time for the hunger.. many hours, but I didn't miss between meal hunger. I included my 6 month before and after. Anyone else want to share?

MimIn: Congratulations! We are the same weight and I'm buying some 14's, but depending on the brand some can be tight. I'm trying to think of a NSV.... Let's see... People are telling me that I look a lot younger. I guess that is a NSV!

Has anyone had any NSV's the last week? I had a few.... I flew to Atlanta last week and found I actually fit in a plane seat with room to spare and I can pull the seatbelt tight across my lap without extending it as far as it will go and see it rather than it hide under my belly! My lane bryant size 14 dress pants and jeans are hanging off my arse and while in atlanta I decided to go shopping (lane bryant 14 is a 'normal' size 16). I bought size 14 dress pants and a pair of levi's in the misses section and a couple large shirts from the juniors of macy's I hven't done that since I was probably 12. Last night my dog took off like a rocket and I ran full sprint after him clear across the community by the time I caught him I was several blocks from home and was hardly winded. Curious how far I had gone I later took the car out to measure and it was 1.1 miles (my dog sucks!). I have never been able to run more than 1/4 mile without feeling the onset of death. It's the little things that make it all worth it!

Tami: I knew you were talking about a fill soon. I was too. I got mine Tuesday. I am not at all overfilled. I forgot to ask him exactly how much he added, but I do not have the wild cravings that I was having. Since the fill I've been doing much better. It hasn't kept me from eating anything though, that I've tried. So don't be afraid. Be sure to tell them of your fears. I did and I think that's why I am not overfilled. Good luck! I hope it helps take care of those crazy cravings! You're doing so well! Congratulations on your fantastic NSVs!

Hi all! I just wanted to share a NSV....the 1.3 miles I thought I ran the other day? Well I drove in my car and measured it out (I'm compulsive that way) and it was actually 1.5! Whoo hoo! I have set a goal to run in a 5k race this summer in may with my sister (the half-marathoner  ) She is a delightful and supportive person. Of course I will not plan to race anyone but myself. How blessed I am to consider even doing such a thing! Amazing.

Please accept my apologies for my naivety (sp?) What are NSVs? Thanks!
  10. Hey Candle, Congrats on all of the NSV's :thumbup:! Going to a wedding and seeing people after losing 124 pounds must have been an incredible experience! It sounds like you have an excellent plan regarding your PS consults -- and Dr. S seems like a great one to have on you list. BTW, I'm still thinking about our Crazy Ates Vegas trip, and we can talk more about this once I know what I'm doing with my second surgery. I'm headed back up to Miami at the end of July to meet with my Dr. for a follow-up visit, and hopefully at that point I'll have some idea as to the timing of round 2. It's not so much that I'm ready to go back into surgery again, but I like the idea of having everything done (more or less) at once. The second surgery will (hopefully) finish up the body, and I'm quite anxious to have it done. Have a great night :smile::frown:!
  11. Before my surgery I went to Macy's and looked at the beautiful and way too small suits and told them, "I'll be back and you'll be mine!" That day has come. My size is not only on the rack now, it is down the rack to the smaller sizes! I'm a minister, I need a good black suit for marrying and burying and for special services. Now my size is the one I had when I married my first couple when I was in my 20's, the groom bought me a Johnny Carson suit. I loved that suit, I wore it out. Macy's has Donald Trump, Micheal Kors, and Kenneth Cole suits that look good. I don't know what I'll get but I know it's going to be fun. Knowing me, I will probably tell the salesperson the story. God has indeed smiled on me, with His help I've dumped hated burdens and gained many great friends here in this forum. I'll post pics when I can.
  12. Thank you Cheri. You seem to know what to say and when to say it. Totally agree. I wish everyone a NSV this coming week.
  13. This is such a great thread! I'm so glad you started it, Leigha. Your episode yesterday sounds miserable. I'm so glad Dr. Kim's nurse is meeting you today for a little unfill. I love hearing about good doctors---there are few enough of them that kudos are warranted. Everyone deserves a good doctor; I wish everyone had them. Awesome job with the weightlifting--and lost weight and inches! Ada, exercise is key for me, too. I hope the next fill's the charm for you. I'm one step behind you, just about to get my 2nd fill on Wednesday--with my 3rd already scheduled. It feels good to be moving toward it Heather, 48 pounds! Phenomenal! My doctor is a 4 oz. protein/3x day kind of guy, too. (Well, he works UP to 3-5 ounces; I'm still at 2.5.) It can leave a little extra room, no? Still, it does the trick, weight-wise--and with restriction, it will be wonderful. Speaking of restriction, sorry you had to unfill a bit, but hopefully you are now in a better place. Illuminationlady, I'm SO glad you've reached the not-hungries! Your progress really gives me hope. Hummingbird, I hope your tight fill modifies itself to sweet spot fast. TJ--salt + no BP meds will add up to a gain every time. (Hm. Maybe soon, those meds will be a thing of the past; I'm pretty sure mine are on the way out...) That gain will be gone in no time. In the meantime, you're experiencing AWESOME NSVs! BT--How many hours now? I'm much like you; I can lose weight just fine (though being old and female makes it a bit slower going than you've experienced). It's keeping it off that I really suck at. The band is going to be an amazing tool for you. Have people really said that your opinions and advice don't matter because you're not yet banded? Dumbasses. Your advice has always been really solid, IMO. I am procrastinating--I really need to be working. I have a publisher's deadline on Wednesday, and I'm being bratty about it. I hate working through weekends, and this assignment was timed in a way that ensured I'd have to work straight through this one. (Got it on Thursday.) Of course, my protest is only going to shoot ME in the foot...but I still seem to be having a petulant temper tantrum. (I will buckle down and get it done in a few minutes...) I just wanted to add my NSV du jour: I teach Sunday school to first and second graders. I alternate with another teacher, and because of my surgery, have not seen the kids since before our very long winter recess. The first little girl who came in this looked at me really funny. I asked her if she remembered me---and after looking at me for a few minutes, I reminded her that my name is Betsy. She looked at me a minute more, and said, "I know. But you look completely different!" THAT felt mighty good! Have a great Sunday! Off to work.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My NSV for today...I decided I wanted a new outfit for a church style function...went into Dressbarn...14w-26w on one side and 0-16 on the other...I was finally able to buy on the OTHER side today!!
  15. November has been NSV month for me. I have been to two college football games and an NFL game with even thinking about being a tight squeeze into the seat. Tomorrow I fly out to TN and am not stressed on where I will be sitting on the flight and when I get to TN I am going to be in a tree stand that I am not too heavy for.
  16. Thank you very much, Ladies for your support and inspiration. Jeanaluvskisses, thinndskies and Gingersnaps! You have great reminders of NSV's. I've started a list of all the NSV accomplishments I would like to see and many of the ones listed here are reminders of items to put on my list. Like you have said, it may not be just a clothing or shoe size but ease of movement, walking without puffing or the ability to get up out of a chair easily. I'm looking forward to following this thread in the weeks, months and years to come as I progress and experience many successes on my new journey.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Yay! Get to report my first nsv! I've been wearing my size 18 jeans that I alwAys wear and they've been looking awful and falling off so I tried on a pair of size 14 jeans I had in my closet and thought there is no way but they fit! So so excited! Oh yeah and it's easier to put my shoes on! I don't breakout in a sweat when I do:)
  18. This is by far my favorite thread here at this forum. Every pre-op member should read through every post. It is a great motivation while going through the whole process. Keep sharing everyone.... on July 23 I will be one step closer to sharing my own NSVs.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

The scale this morning had a new middle number, but since this is the NSV thread... Was putting on jeans for a date Saturday night... The pair I pulled on looked saggy in the butt and they were the only pair I've been wearing lately that fit at all any more. I saw a pair laying folded on the closet floor (yeah, my closet is like that), grabbed them, pulled them on and they fit (without cutting me in half even). Two months ago I was in a 16. I looked at the pair I had tried on and they were a 14. Went in the bathroom (where there was light) and checked the tag and the pair I had on were a 12!!!! I'm in a FREAKIN' SIZE 12 JEAN!!! So, I promptly went to the mall, into Express and tried on this really cute lacy top that maxed out in a size large (no XL's in that store) and the size LARGE fit!!! Tell me I wasn't feeling like a rock star on that date (only the second with this guy).

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I'm not sure if this is a NSV but it was surprising. I usually put my hair bands around my wrist so I would have it handy. When I was overweight I would have to take it off shortly after putting it on because it would start squeezing my wrist. Today I realized I could keep it on all day but also when I pulled up my long sleeve shirt my hair band pulled up to my upper arm and I didn't realize it until I was looking for it to put in my hair. I guess my upper arm has gotten quite a bit smaller.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

On Thursday I had a regular scheduled doctors appointment. They weighed me but I don't believe their scale cause it's not the surgeons office. Anyway, then they took my blood pressure and oxygen saturation level. It wasn't until after they were done that I realized they used a "regular sized" blood pressure cuff on my arm. That's my first of what I'm sure will be many nsv's. Lol

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Here is a big NSV for me, my little garden. I'm going to eat healthy and grow some of what I eat. I don't think I would have ever had the energy or motivation to do this last year. It's small, but I tilled it all by hand so it was a lot of work. I'm not done with it yet, but I've so happy with what I've got done so far.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Friday was my 6 month (at 7 months? post op follow up visit. My BP was 110/57 HR was 76 Amy cholesterol 135 overall LDL 43 HDL 85 all other blood panels were in the normal range A1c was 4.1and my body fat is down to 20%! The Dr. was extatic about my results! He said that by far I am his most successful patient at the VA! My skin is healing well I have some loose skin but looks like it is still young and will probably not need to have any removed as it is not hanging and my muscle building will help for it to "go back to normal"! Another NSV is my energy level, my family and are are getting ready to move across country (for me to continue my education I was accepted to Colorado State University) and I have been loading the moving pods all weekend and have done most of the heavy-lifting myself. I am not tired or sore I worked all day both Saturday and yesterday and was like the energizer bunny, I just kept going and going.
  25. This is inspiring to me as it is not all about the scale victories! I’m 12 weeks out today and haven’t had many Non Scale Victories (NSV’s) yet! One big one was last week and I didn’t need a seat belt extension on one leg of the flight! My 5x clothes are starting to get loose on me which is a good thing. I wanted to post here so when I start chalking up all my NSV’s I remember how far I have come. At this time I still use beach towels, wear a size 30 but can get into my 28’s now. I usually sit while I’m in the shower, still don’t sit in a booth and chairs with arms at restaurants make me nervous. I can’t get down the airplane isle without bumping into people on each side. It doesn’t help to turn sideways either as I’m wide both ways. I still pull myself up the banister to get up the stairs. I can’t really shop or go site seeing as I get winded too easily. I have to lean on my shopping cart to get around the store. Okay, this is sounding like a laundry list of why I had the surgery and it is. I’ve noticed all of the posts on here about those that have crossed these hurdles and had major NSV’s! Bring it on!
