  1. I've gotten creative and have not minded it at all Chile - lean ground meat/beans/ pomi/ spices I do blend this and I don't mind it. I sometimes melt cheese on it for an extra treat (I try and stay within 35 grams of fat but sometimes i will go up to 60). I LOVE the lemon sole - I do use 1/2 tbspn butter and a lemon and pan fry i can live on this blended chicken is pretty gross i agree - i bought some Soup and added that into the soup so that it seems more like mashed soup. i have done it with vichysoisse soup and avgolemono fat free refried Beans, cheese melted and also flax seed meal (good for your hair). fage 0% yogurt and honey get lo fat ricotta - and mix some tomato or marinara sauce and melt mozzarella on it (this one i screwed up and got the skim version and its too much fat so I don't eat it too much).

    Is My Potential Surgeon Right

I have an MBA and I am a Nuclear Engineer. Education level does not equal success at weight loss or understanding of the mental challenges faced. I do see a therapist. I wish I was in as good a shape mentally as you are as my journey would be so much easier. IMHO, if I were the surgeon you visited and you explained your story to me I would also not recommend a second surgery at this time. It sounds like the surgeon you visited is acting ethically and in your and his best interests. Btw, my insurance will not cover a second surgery unless it is a removal due to band failure. vic

    Stuid Human Stuff

I was traveling for work, and staying in a hotel. Getting ready in the morning, I got out of the shower and was blow-drying my hair, upside down like I always do cuz I have long hair. What I didn't notice was that the little screen for the air intake on the dryer was gone. Yep- you guessed it, the blow dryer sucked up a bunch of my hair and it got totally snarled and tangled in there. Of course, this is one of those blow dryers that they have permanently mounted to the wall, so I can't just un-plug the darn thing. So there I am, in nothing but a towel, with most of my hair stuck in a blow dryer, affixed to the wall. I have a pair of scissors, but they are in my suitcase, which is on the bed in the other room. There is no phone in the bathroom. I figured I could just wait for the housekeeping people to show up and come to my rescue, but I just couldn't bear the humiliation. So I sat there and ripped my hair out of the blow dryer, bit by bit. Needless to say , I looked like hell when I got to the office I was visiting. When I got back home, I made an emergency appointment with my hair stylist. After she was able to quit laughing at my story, she did the best she could with the mess I had made of my hair. It took almost a year before all the signs of that mishap finally faded.
  5. 1-2lbs is the average weekly loss with the band; not sure what more you're expecting. You're not always going to see a decrease on the scale. Some week it'll be 2lbs, some weeks 1lb, some weeks a lovely 0lbs. In fact, it's much better that you are seeing inches lost; this means you are TRULY losing fat. Stepping on the scale doesn't prove fat-loss, it's proves a loss in mass, which could include fat, muscle, Water, or a combination of those. Embrace your inches lost and be patient. My saying: weight-loss is never linear or constant. Keep that in mind. Good luck!
  6. Thanks for the encouragement you guys! I guess that I didn't think of people including their pre-surg weight loss. I will try bumping up my calorie intake. I have just been afraid to do it because of the stall. I go for another fill on the 31st so hopefully that will help with the hungry feeling. I got 1.2cc on my first fill so I am at 3.2cc right now, she originally put in 1.8cc but had to remove .6cc because I couldn't get the sip of Water to go down. I am going to continue with the exercise because it just makes me feel good! I have noticed that my clothes are fitting a little more loosely in the waist and thighs and my stomach has gone down some. Just not seeing it on the scale. Good luck to you all as well! By the way where did you get the weight loss ticker from?

Need some opinions - New Hairstyle

Tiff, A is very cute and will look good on you. Be sure to get the right products to keep the hairstyle up at home. Do you have a flat Iron? To everyone with the thinning hair problem: There are "bumps" that add volume. Make the most of what is left. Get a shining product that stays in the hair. It makes your hair look healthy. You can put it on like a color treatment. Get what you have left trimmed. a cute cut is a must. Honestly, at this point, you need to treat yourself if you can afford it. Find a stylist that deals with thinning/damaged hair. You will feel so much better about yourself. I am using a product called, Morrocan Gold. It is a great smelling oil. I have longish blonde (treated) hair. I use it daily on the ends and top surface. Work with the stylist for the best product for your type of hair.
  8. Welcome tot he forums. Your weight loss is significant, congrats! I, too, was sleeved on the 2nd but have only lost about 25lbs so far. I say only with my tongue in cheek as I have no complaints. I put on clothes I haven't worn in 12 years today. I'm just glad they're still in style. <laugh>

Your tummy has what all ladies on TV dread, cellulite. I have dimples on my thighs where they've gotten a tad smaller. Probably happened because of weight loss. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

What I have discovered so far

I have had LOTS of surgeries myself. Never lost hair, never got cold in the summer afterward. Not after losing a lot of weight.. And I had a 10 inch incision after gall bladder surgery. I thought I said I don't eat simple carbs. My husband does, I DON'T. Other people have complained that food servers comment on the amount of food they eat. I offered what I thought was a humorous solution. Yes, exercise reduces your blood sugar but not to a predictable degree. You have to know what your sugars are going to do before exercising so you don't have to worry about lows and correcting them. But that is what my doctor says, so maybe you know more. Your kind of response is why I rarely post on this board anymore.
  12. I had my band installed December 31st 2007 (Hell of a New Years Resolution). Back then I weighed 300lbs. Over the next year and a half I was down to 190. It wasn't easy. I never went to any support groups and the rapid loss wreaked havoc on my hormones making me a bit unstable. My surgeon was pleased to see someone in their late 20s with a band thinking I will be healthy and have almost no issues. Sometimes I worry at night. Trying to sleep I find myself terrified of erosion. Before I was terrified of heart trouble from being overweight. But I feel like I can't stop worrying. During the day, I maintain a distracted life at work. Lately my hours have been 60-90 hour weeks with work provided meals. Due to this I had my band loosened by 1cc last August. I can now eat anything without much trouble. My appetite is strong and unforgiving. My metabolism didn't handle it too well and I'm 20lbs heavier today. I had 0.5ccs added last week, but I can still eat mostly anything. I'd like to say I was a model bandster, but I'm not. Not even close. Once at my comfortable weight, I found my band as a tool to eat almost anything without gaining weight. I would push it more and more to get more food. Over the last year I gained 10lbs, but it never went higher. I drink carbonated soda, and eat almost anything. I eat slowly depending on my restriction, but it seems to be more lose in the evening. It was because of my inability to maintain control that I had it loosened a bit since the band was a bit uncomfortable. I want to tighten it back up to a strong restriction and get back to my target weight, but I'm very afraid of my irresponsible side slowly killing me. The lapband diets are difficult for me. I have major food allergies. Raw fruit / vegetables, shell fish, nuts, all close up my esophagus. Protein products give me the same problem. My wife stocks the house with food for the kids, a inventory I can't seem to steer clear from. I want to feel full, a feeling I couldn't achieve even without the band. I instead feel uncomfortable or regrettable. I need friends I can talk to. In person works great, but difficult to find in my area.

Need some opinions - New Hairstyle

Tiff, I've been out of the loop lately, but I LOVE your hair! You look great! I need a new "do" too but I'm a chicken. I am always unhappy with new haircuts. By the way, my daughter also has a huge forehead, so big that her brothers named it! They call it "Glara Mc Fly" Haha
  14. Just got my surgery date of July 20th.. Reality if it hasn't set in yet. When does it get real? What should I expect pre-operatively? I read surgery can lead to hair loss? Maybe I should spend a week reading everyone's posts and think about this...

    Whodda thunk? Kidney Cyst

According to my doctor it is my Kidney, but I go to the urologist on Tuesday so I assume he'll be able to tell more. Fortunately right now it's not bothering me too much. Just the bladder infection that I came down with on Sunday, lol. My Kidney was sore from the back last night from that, but cranberry, Vitamin C and Water seem to be flushing it out nicely,. It would be very interesting to find out that it was on my adrenal gland though. I've been at a standstill again for a while with my weight loss, and I honestly think that it's a mental block. I know I can lose on 1300 calories, but I just can't make myself count them. Hopefully my councelor can help me with that part, lol.
  16. what you have is a clear case of habituation. You feel an emotion and you eat. You now have to find some other activity to replace the eating response. At first it will seem unnatural, but after a long time, it will become second nature. So maybe instead of eating, go for a walk, go window shopping, clean your house, paint your nails. A weight loss buddy might help too. Someone you can call that can help "talk you down." Just develop another habit. I know how hard this is. I eat when im stressing or bord. I have a weight loss buddy I now call when I feel like Im about to cheat. Sometimes we go for walks, go to a movie, gossip...whatever to get ourselves pass that feeling. Good luck V
  17. I'm starting to get really frustrated about this surgery. During the pre-op phase, I lost 23 pounds, and the first three days after surgery, I dropped another 10. Since that point, I have either stayed the same or gained weight every single day. My fiance had the same surgery a week prior to me, and she is dealing with the same thing. I just don't get it. In diets of the past, if I had eaten this amount of food, I would have been dropping 5-10 pounds a week...but after the band, it's nothing. I was expecting rapid weight loss (and was pretty much guaranteed this by my Doctor, as long as I followed the guidelines, which I have), but at this point, I'm starving myself and eating foods that disgust me (protein shakes) for nothing. Has anyone else had these problems after the surgery? I understand the argument about swelling, but if that was the case, I would have gained in the days following surgery. I also understand plateau's, but this has been going on for 12 days now. I weigh almost 400 pounds and am surviving on less than 1000 calories a day...it's ridiculous.

    Hello all

I've had 2 fills, the first 3 cc in June and 1 cc in August. I think I may need another 1-2 cc but it's pretty close to right. I think I can still eat too much "because it's there" but I'm trying to retrain myself that I can save it for later. I am the "go box" queen. Portion sizes are really wayyy too big but u don't feel like u are wasting money if u can eat it 2-3 times. Chicken is the number one food on my list...grilled, baked or fajitas. I have also found the wraps with 90 calories and 8 grams of protein. I don't eat much bread and am usually giving pieces of the wrap to my dogs. As far as a sandwich or burger at least 1 bun's worth will be picked off. Some veggies but I spend most of my food allowance trying to get in the 60 grams of protein. Some junk but just in a smaller portion, the 100 calorie bags are my friend. Fried stuff makes me feel bad, usually diarrhea. I eat yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast...not a breakfast person at all, really don't want to eat in the mornings much, but u have to. I use the WW or LC meals as backup in case there is nothing I want to fix or there is nothing at work that will work. I try to shut down the food by 6 pm and make myself some decaf if I'm feeling deprived or try to get the rest of the day's fluid in. I try to keep a running calorie count in my head and try to put the brakes on at 1200-1500 calories. Hope this helps....the weight loss is slowing down and it looks like I must make friends with exercise. Surprise....it doesn't hurt as much as it used to and I'm trying to go the gym 2-3 times a week. My exercise is simple at present, 20 minutes on the treadmill and 9 of the machines, 40 reps at whatever weight for that exercise.

I saw my Dr. and he told me go for it!! I could only do 5 min. of bike, but later did another 5 min. It is going to take awhile for me to build up strength.

    breast implants?

Quite often after a large weight loss women need a lift with implants. It's quite common. A suggestion for you is to google/yahoo weight loss breast lift or weight loss mastopexy (the technical term). You might want to throw in the word implant. You should get quite a few hits and be able to see many pictures of before and after shots. I suggest you add the term weight loss because mastopexy is very different for someone who has lost a lot of weight.

    Frustrated Newbie!

Thanks for the response everyone. I'm 60 yrs old. Have fibromyalgia and on going problems with abdominal Hernias for which I've had several surgeries. Really thinking the probs I had before Christmas had nothing to do with band but was because after just having fill had couple Surgeon appts and all the poking and probing probably caused the stomach and abdominal pain. The Doc I saw in Emerge was not familiar with Bariatic surgery so deflated the band Just to be safe. I do journal everyday. Always walked anywhere from 30 40 min. Since Xmas I've been doing 45-50 min walking at gym. Sometimes 60but mostly 50-55. Just can't seem to understand why the weight loss just stopped ! Checked back in journal and during Xmas did eat more carbs and sweets but have never gone over calorie Limit which is 1250 for me. Mostly 950-1100. Also not sure I've ever reached sweet spot. Not sure i really know what sweet spot is. Started the 5 Day pouch test today. Fee,ing bit more encouraged . Hopefully this will help.
  22. Have any of you had issues with things "going black" when you rise from a seated position? It only lasts a few seconds and I never lose consciousness. In my third month of hair loss and ready for that to be over!!! Today is my six month anniversary -- Starting Weight: 231 Size: 18/20 Current Weight: 156 Size: 8
  23. Hi everyone, Brand new to this web site. Am considering the surgery, but need to find out more about it. Am 65, 6' and 350. I am concerned about excessive skin after weight loss & what other problems down the road that they left out. Oh, i'm a male. Anything anyone could tell me about pros & cons would be greatly appreciated.

    Please... is this normal?

Hi all, Prior to having my band I did not tell anyone I was having surgery. I did not even tell my siblings or parents. Only my husband and 2 kids knew. I needed to tell my carpool since she has helped me with switching and taking care of my younger son until the older one got home from school to babysit. (I think I love her) and one other friend who I know will never tell anyone (my support system). I told those who needed to know I was having surgery that I had a hiatus hernia repaired and was embarrased to tell anyone (the reason for my secrecy). The hernia surgery turned out to be true since I had a hiatus hernia repaired. The weight loss is pretty slow and gradual and can be explained with diet and exercise. I guess they will all be shocked that I am finally succeeding. I am so glad I didn't blab. I don't think I could stand having every mouthful watched and commented on. However,I know it would have provided great gossip (I think most people would have seen it as that and not a life saving procedure). I know I can guide those seeking help in loosing towards the band without necessarily telling them about mine.
