    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Yes as body was in shock after surgery so the loss was more but it will level out so I’ve been told and you’ll find the following week you will lose more to make up for it, if you know what I mean.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I’ll be 5 months post Surgery tomorrow. .8 shy of 60lbs lost…which when I first talked to my surgeon I said I’d be happy just losing 60lbs. I am comfortable in my body again, but the weight loss will continue. New goal - get to a “healthy” BMI. I made it thru a 2 week vacation at Walt Disney World …where I didn’t lose, came home up a measly 0.6lbs. Lost 8.2 in the 3 weeks since I got home. So that’s a positive. The trip did not derail my progress.

    May surgery.

I must say, however, the weight loss is helping a great deal although I am too weak right now to work out a lot, still walking. No more weight lifting now they said as this thing could be some type of tear in my chest wall that has leaked blood & fluid into & around my lung. Max weight 287 SW 277 CW 221 surg 5/5

    Dexa Scan

This is literally exactly how I am doing my goals. I have had several DXA scans (there's a place here called BodySpec that charges something like $45, no insurance) because despite being obese I am also extremely muscular. I took the lowest of the lean body mass results (knowing that I would lose some muscle during this weight loss process), added 15% body fat, and voilà, 240 lbs. goal. It confused my surgeon at first but he was supportive.
  5. So, I suffer from PCOS. & for those who know what that is or have it, know that often times your period is super irregular or it just doesn’t come at all. For me, In order to get a period I either had to be on birth control, or progesterone. I never got periods on my own. September 21st 2021 I had surgery & October 11th, 2021 I got my 1st period on my own with out the assistance of pills. It lasted about 8 days. Stopped for a day, and came back. I’ve been spotting and bleeding off and on since. I know that the weight loss and my hormones have a lot to do with it. But i’m super irritable, emotional, and tired. I hate feeling like this. Luckily I have an appointment with my OBGYN on Tuesday 11/2. What birth controls worked for you to regulate your menses?

    When does this SLOW DOWN?!

I lost another 11kgs in the 11 months after I reached my goal. It took me a while to reach the sweet spot of the calories I consumed equaling the calories I burnt. The weight loss got slower & slower. I found it hard to eat more in a meal so I adding calories via additional snacks. I was up to 4 or 5 snacks a day (yoghurt, cheese, fruit, protein bar, whole/multigrain crackers, hummus). I truely felt like I was eating all day & it took effort like @ms.sss also experienced. Been stabilised for about 12 months. My meals are larger (about a recommended portion size) & I only have 3 or the odd fourth snack a day to reach the calories I need to maintain. I didn’t really start to feel hungry again until well into my second year and I still have days I’m not hungry. On those days I try to at least eat protein rich foods. My attitude to food has changed a lot. I usually eat to provide my body with the calories & nutrients it needs to function - I eat because I need to not because I want to. My experience is similar to some but not most. So far, I’m more of an exception. An outlier who throws a spanner in the statistical data & does more (or less) than statistically predicted. I am on the low BMI range end but turns out I actually have a smallish frame. Don’t know what your goal weight is but if you’re getting close you should definitely be slowing. You could start to add a little more to your diet via healthy snacks. Speak to your dietician for advice & suggestions. Just ignore those comments. We all got them. I did when I was 60kgs but don’t get them anymore 11kgs less - get you look great ones now. It doesn’t help that as we near our goal weight we start to look drawn. Once we add some good multi or whole grains back in our diet & our remaining fat resettles we look less gaunt. Those comments are more about how others perceive you not whether you are healthy & happy. It takes time for their vision of you to catch up with the new reality of you. Congrats on your weight loss so far.
  7. Today is one year since my revision bypass surgery. I've lost 59 pounds since surgery and 95 pounds since my all-time pre-sleeve weight. I am healthy, happy and feel better than I've felt in 20 years! And the great news is - I no longer have GERD! Good luck to all of us who are on this crazy weight loss journey and I'm grateful for this forum to be able to openly share my outcomes. Other social media platforms would never understand our journeys.
  8. I had been warned that post weight loss surgery that some people have an increase in BO. I just left the gym and I reek of BO. I am not up to my old treadmill routine of hills and spead but I am working hard enough to raise my pulse. Thing is I barley sweated even though in the past this long of a work out with a pulse level I achieved I would of been soaked. So is the increased BO because My body is not letting go of its precious fluids and the sweat is concentrated stinky stuff?Does this stage last long? What has been your experience?
  9. Sunnyway mentioned some in a post I read. The ones I’ve read so far and bought are:food junkies, a pound of cure and how weight loss surgery actually works by same author. Also weight loss surgery does not treat food addiction. I haven’t ordered any of the others but probably will. Very insightful books

    Three month stall

I had a few stalls. One lasted three weeks and I was worried it was the end of the loss but the loss picked back up and slowly but surely I continue to lose. Just stick to your plan. Oops. Looks like your loss did pick back up. Glad to hear it.
  11. Hello everyone! I know this may sound crazy but I’m actually concerned about losing too much too fast! My surgery was February 24, 2021. In eight months I have lost 111 pounds. On New Year’s Day 2021 I weighed 295…. Current weight 173! Went from a size 20W/22W to an 8/10. The comments I’m getting now after eight months range from you’ve lost too much weight, to how much more weight can you possibly lose? It’s hard to explain to people that I’m just following the plan, I’m not hungry, and I feel like I can’t control this weight loss. If I’m only eight months postop can I expect to lose at least another 20 pounds by the first year? I know I sound insane but I just want to weight loss to stop and level out how long did it take for you guys to finally hit the bottom of the weight loss?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

His surgery twin, im doing ok, each day is different, hormones seem to be all over the place as through fat loss Estrogen surges with fat loss. befire surgery I lost 16lbs and now I’ve lost 16lbs since surgery. I thought it would be faster but grateful all the same as wouldn’t be able to do it without. I had the sleeve done. I had gas pains and shoulder pain and I still suffer with right side stomach when I bend down etc incisions ok though. I find it not to bad getting soft food down. I’ve started a week early with soft foods as soups were going straight through me but I can’t manage more than about 4 tea spoons full. even then it’s a struggle. my main struggle is fluids getting the right amount in so I’ve brought protein juice and it’s definitely helping. how are you doing?
  13. It took me almost two years to get to goal. My weight loss slowed down quite a bit about halfway through, but the good thing is, it kept going and going until all my excess weight was gone. Even slow weight loss adds up over time. Hang in there!
  14. I’m a slow loser, too. Maybe averaging .5 to 1.5 lbs/month loss at this point. But there’s no need to give up!
  15. I will say coming from someone who has had PCOS for 20+ years it is it’s own can of worms as far as trying to get it under control. I have a great doctor who realizes the struggle with it. Since starting on my pre-op weight loss I have realized how much it affects our weight. I can literally get 10-20 g more of carbohydrates per day and cause a weight gain. And I don’t necessarily mean “bad carbs” I mean even starchy vegetables, etc. There are some great PCOS resources out there for eating specifically for that disorder. Hoping you can find a plan or doctor who understands and can better help and treat you. I know the frustration it causes.
  16. Boy do I know how you feel...went in for surgery Oct. 25th , 2021 to have the "Sadi" done...I, too, woke up to find it could not be done because of too much scar tissue..the Dr. did remove some of the scar tissue, guess that's good. I knew there was a chance that this may not be able to be a success because of the scar tissue, most of which is from a couple of abdomen surgeries from yrs gone by. I do however still have the sleeve and it hasn't stretched..but just couldn't succeed with it, very little weight loss.. Long story short, they sent me home that night, just as sore nonetheless. This was my last chance at Bariatric anything, already had the Lapland, that was horrible, sick so much...but anyhow thought I would get my 2 cents in....and don't know what I will do now...I just did the 2 week liquid diet....with great anticipation..feeling disappointed in Maine...Donna

What to expect at pre-op appointment

My surgeon weighed me, took some vitals (BP, heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, pulse ox), worked with me on setting a realistic weight loss goal, prescribed post-op medications (painkillers, anti-nausea meds, and stool softeners) and gave me the rest of the half-hour to ask whatever questions I had. He also ordered the pre-op testing I would need: EKG, blood work, urine sample, etc.
  18. pictures are included so please be advised before hand I do include the surgery pictures just not to gross just the healed scars and all of what a fleur de lis tummy tuck looks like!!! 💢‼️‼️ Well it will soon be my 2 year anniversary for the gastric sleeve and let me tell you what kinda of world wind it has been! To this day if I eat more then 4 ounces of steak I can’t eat anything for the rest of the day since it feels stuck but so far I have been able to eat regular foods. My breads still have to be toasted to not get the tummy gurgles. My stomach talks to everyone especially at night so if I am in a night class and I haven’t smacked at my usually 4 hours it’s like “hey professor hear me answer you” so YES my stomach after I eat speaks to the whole room and after hours as well. The bathroom problem is still a problem so I can poop regularly for 2-3 days and after I’m stuck for 2 day with nothing unless I have a day full of meals then I am golden. I also had a fleur de lis tummy tuck back in January. And that itself was a mess and such a hard recovery which was worth it to fit into my clothes, just wish I didn’t have those hiccups. food wise I have been eating a bit more from what I did in the beginning but never a full size normal plate always the little cereal bowl. So I would say I can eat about a cup or so of food depending on the food heavy steaks only 4-5 ounces and some side dishes. But it’s always at 8 ounces max on good days and other day a bit more. I was seeing a nutritionist even at 2 years in and she had been amazing. weight gain and loss : before my surgeries I was at 256lb after I lost 92 pounds, then after the tummy tuck they removed about 10lbs of skin from my mid section. i was down to 147lbs in January of 2021 after the tummy tuck then now in November I have normalized to a regular weight of 154lbs -156lbs in all it had been a very very long journey and I would say for the most part I would do it again if given the opportunity. now for the pictures guys it has been really really amazing to see me like this find me on Instagram ☺️ @aishas1992
  19. Slow loss is really relative to a lot of factors like your starting BMI which for you is not that high. I would say just to make sure you are on the right track, evaluate your calorie intake, protein intake, increase water intake and make sure you are walking atleast 45 minutes a day, even if it is in several different walks. Keep the carbs down because that will slow the weight down. I have not had a piece of bread in two months and I really don't miss it too much even though I was a bread-a-holic.

    Nails and hair

It’s the protein you’re consuming. If you were like me, I never ate close to 60g of protein a day before surgery. Now I often eat more than 60g. Plus, you’re generally eating a more nutrient dense diet than you did before. The protein supplies your body with amino acids which are used to produce keratin which is part of the structure of nails & hair. I used to have itchy skin on my legs & little bumps on my arms. No more lumps & no more itch thanks to the protein too. The broader the variety of protein sources you eat the better the benefits. It’s wonderful. 🙂 Oh, and I don’t take any vitamins or supplements. PS - you could always try laser hair removal if frequent shaving gets too annoying. https://thebeautychef.com/blogs/blog/the-importance-of-protein-for-glowing-skin-hair-nails
  21. I wonder if the cravings, especially sugar, occur in response to the emotional roller coaster of undergoing surgery, the restrictive diet & low calorie intake, etc.? You’re experiencing so many changes that you seek something that likely soothed & comforted you in the past. In times of stress we look to things that are familiar & offer comfort. This is just a thought. We all have different experiences. @Sleeve me alone! & @lizonaplane have offered some good suggestions that are worth a try. I have found if I feel hungry (head hunger) I make myself wait for 30 minutes & this breaks that craving. I do something to distract myself during that time - read, do a puzzle, fold the laundry, watch something on tv (streamed is best - no ads to further tempt us 😉), etc. Don’t be too concerned by your rate of weight loss. We all lose at our own rate - some fast, some slow. Many factors influence your rate (age, gender, starting weight, how long you’ve been overweight, genetics, etc.). Every pound you lose is a win. Good luck.
  22. I’m a slowish loser (around 21 lbs in 7 weeks since surgery) and even though it is frustrating at times I’m trying to stay positive. I wanted to share my recent thoughts around the subject. No matter whether I lose only a pound in a week it is still one pound gone hopefully forever from my body. I also kind of like the idea of losing slowly as it gives my mind and body time to adjust to the loss, and for some reason, I believe the pounds are more likely to stay off when I shed them slowly. Naturally, it took me decades to pile on the weight so there is no way it will be gone in a few months. And finally despite how quickly or slowly I’m losing I would never regret the surgery because without it I would probably have gained at least as much weight as I have now lost. The weekend is approaching so have a great one!

    Nails and hair

Has anyone noticed that since they take vitamins on a daily basis, their nails and hair on legs, arms, etc grow faster? My nails have even been harder and don't break so easily. I would like the leg hair to please fall out. I have to shave every day. I used to go a couple days in between. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I had sleeve surgery on the 15th of October and I been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks I see my surgeon to see how my healing process is going and what stage he moves me to Sent from my moto e using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month, and i started out at almost 400 lbs. People lose at all different rates due to a bunch of different factors, many of which you have little to no control over, including age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic rate, percentage of your body that is muscle, whether or not you lost a bunch of weight before surgery, etc. The only two things you have a lot of control over are your activity level and how closely you stick to your clinic's program. If you do well with those two things, you WILL lose the weight, whether fast or slow. I was a slow loser from the get-go and ended up losing 100% of my excess weight. if you havent' lost any weight in a week and you're following your program, then you're just in a stall. Happens to most of us - and you're likely to have more along the way. When you hit one, just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days - and know that it'll eventually break and the weight loss will start up again. They typically last 1-3 weeks.
