You Tube?
illgeturhairdid replied to Bariatric Barry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am planning to start soon. Just got my video camera yesterday and I'm learning how to use it. I've gained so much knowledge from watching YouTube videos that I am hoping to help someone else on their journey. -
I'd start tracking all your calories and fat and protein on a site like sparkpeople. You may find that you aren't getting enough protein. Also, click on my ticker and you'll see my weight loss pattern. It's very stairstep-I'll be the same weight for a week or two then drop 4-5 lbs in a couple days!

Hi, my name is Theresa Bailey. I live in Magnolia, DE. I had my surgery in Aug. 21, 2015..My SW was 250 CW 217. I only average 1.5 a week. A lot people claim it is because of my age. I am 5'4, and 64 yrs young. I have two major stokes and unfortunate for me they had me a lot of steroids and other meds that assisted my weight gain, (of course the rest of my own doing. Can someone help with the best ways to help boost my lost..I have registered to join the gym..any thing would be helpful..

First day of liquid diet!
kj806852 replied to michelle4873's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had been told to clear my schedule as much as possible and focus on myself and the beginning of this amazing journey. The first few days were hard for me as well but I'm almost done with the preop diet and have found it to be quite empowering. I've somehow stuck with it and have been exercising and have lost a lot more weight then I thought I could. It's really instilled in me a sense of accomplishment and I've believed for the first time that i have what it takes to make it to goal. This feeling comes with compliance to the diet and facing and overcoming the anguish/suffering it entails. -
It took only a month because I had 6 months of supervised weight loss. It doesn't have to even be 6 months consecutive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have ameriheath in Pennsylvania and the requirements for me are bmi of 40 or higher with no health problems or bmi of at least 35 with two health problems. Also for me it was a 6 month program (im on my 4th month), and just like most others its a visit with a dietitian and psych eval. I hope that helped! Also if you go to google and type in your insurance provider and put requirements for bariatric surgery it should bring you a form! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you for the response. When you say a 6 month diet plan is that through the surgeon? I have been on a diet plan through my pcp for months with weight loss medication. I wonder if that would be acceptable. Mine is through the surgeon but im not sure! Maybe as long as you followed the guidelines i dont see why they would say no Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

i have the exact thing happen to me. i am hungry and want to start digging in and then i feel that aweful thing in my chest. i have to stick my finger down my throat and get it out because i feel very uncomfortable and panicked when it happens. it happens when i forget that i have a band. i eat too big of bites too quick. i was banded on 2/16. i have no fill but i know there is some restrict already. if u are not losing any weight at all then u are eating too many calories. u should be losing 1-2 pounds a week now.

It's four days since my GB surgery and I'm feeling great! I just can't wait to take these white tight stockings. I'm walking and drinking what I'm suppose too. Wednesday I will see my surgeon for my one week post check up. How weight does anyone lose During the first two weeks?

It's something I am proud of, so mention it when weight loss or something comes up in the conversation, whether a date or an acquaintance. Proud of the weight loss Proud that I've maintained Proud of the hard work it takes and still takes Proud that I roll out of bed and immediately workout, seven days a week, with few exceptions I don't go into details, unless the person shows interest. Just a simple, "I had a sleeve gastrectomy to lose weight". Or if someone comments on how tiny I am, or maybe they feel bad about their weight, I let them know that I understand as I was almost 300 pounds and leave it there, unless they ask for more. I guess I'm more of love me or leave me type of person. At my age, I don't pussyfoot around the facts, I say things as they are in all respects. This way, I can be FULLY me and that is a VERY liberating feeling! I kind of wish I could have always had the confidence to be ME.

I know that when I went to WW prior to the sleeve, some of the members were not very welcoming to anyone that had any type of weight loss surgery. They felt like the surgery was cheating and the weight should just fall right off. If you go I wouldn't volunteer that information, but WW is a great program.

Only 1 lb down this week when its usually like 7? Any advise to brake this stall? Pleasseee help. I knew I would hit a stall but hoped it would be later rather than sooner. 3 Months Post Op
ElPasoSleeveGal replied to ElPasoSleeveGal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're right! I most likely wouldn't have lost the weight if I hadn't had surgery. Now that the weather is getting nicer I am going to start on afternoon walks. I wanted to join the gym close to my house but I hate contracts and you have to sign a 12 month one. May sound like an excuse but for someone who lives paycheck to paycheck it's a legit concern haha. Does anyone have the same problem - worked out & eat healthy then lost great amount of weight but then after awhile the weight stays the same for long time? Even if you work out and eat right? I'm having that problem now this is one reason I'm doing the sleeve - am at the last part of pre op getting it approved but wanted ask if you had the same problem I had?

Doing a liquid diet 9 mths post op? Is it helpful or useless?
marfar7 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Saw another post about this (actuallt it was about the 5 day pouch test) and it brought up more questions for me: Is our new stomachs stretchable and if so, will doing like 7 to 10 days of liquids bring us back to the restriction I once had? I've read both that u can and can't stretch ur stomach. I've read that since we don't have an actual pouch, the test won't work on us. I've also read that u CAN stretch it and a time of liquids can bring u back (even tho scientifically it sounds impossible that u can shrink the stomach by doing just liquids). If we could shrink our stomachs so easily, why would we have 85% of our stomachs removed in the first place. After a 4 mth stall (I eat the wrong foods in small portions but notice myself becoming hungrier and eating more) I decided to try 7 to 10 days of liquids only to give it a shot (altho I haave doubts that it'll work). Started yesterday. Drank Protein shakes and tomato Soup and literally starved. Coulda eaten my arm yesterday. When I read a couple posts about the liquid diet being unneccessary, I rethought my diet. Then I got on the scale. Lost 3 lbs. Haven't seen the 140's since getting married 2 yrs ago (after which my lapband slipped and I gained 34 lbs). So now I'm a little undecided on what to do. I'm pretty stoked about the loss. My plan is to get to my goal weight (most likely 135-140) and then Ill be able to easily maintain it with my portion control. I've been able to maintain my current weight for 4 mths fairly easily. Not sure what to do now. Advise? And yes, I know I'm sposed to track my food, protein first, lots of Water. So plz don't just give that advise.... -

I'm 3 weeks post op and for the most part, I feel amazing! I'm steadily losing weight and keeping everything down, I'm walking more and more every day too. The past two days I've noticed a pulling feeling in my belly button area? It's pretty minor and it comes and goes... I was really paranoid about it possibly being a leak because I just started creamy Soups but I'm hardly eating and I don't even know if I'd go as far as to call it pain. Laying in certain positions or moving around I just get this weird little feeling in my belly button area. During early recovery I did have a lot of pain centered in that area but I started to feel completely better... why is it back? Could it be the introduction of food again? Increased walking/pulling something? Or could it be a leak? I should stress that the pain really isn't persistent and I only get it when I'm in certain positions. It's just strange because I've started to feel totally fine and it seems like this third week this weird strain decided to pop up. At first I thought it was pain but I've noticed it's more of a pull so.. who knows. I hope someone else has experience with that because I'm a little worried atm! lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What will I NEVER be able to eat?
Kindle replied to Mangolicious's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, anyone that is obese and needs surgery to lose weight has an eating disorder. If we weren't addicted to food, and could make healthy food choices and eat appropriate portions we wouldn't have gotten fat in the first place. You need to seriously ask yourself why you do the things you do that led to your obesity. Do you eat when you're bored? Stressed? Depressed? Happy? Do you crave sugar? Can't stop at just one small plateful? Drink too much? All these things will still be there after surgery. They may go into "remission" while you are honeymooning, but they will reappear after awhile if you haven't addressed them and replaced them with new behaviors and coping mechanisms. If you haven't already, read this...... http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/357439-bariatric-surgery-only-makes-your-stomach-smaller-otherwise-youre-exactly-the-same/ -
Aetna HMO or Cigna Premier (w/HSA)? URGENT!!!
JDUB0414 replied to MomofJax's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Aetna, yes they are strict. I got approved after the whole six month diet and after six weeks of submitting my papers. My husband on the other hand had the exact same thing, but only had 3 years of weight loss history....only because he hasnt been to the doctor, and got denied. Now we are trying hard to find to figure out how we can appeal. -

Please share your lessons learned from counseling
bpbqueen replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I see someone every two weeks and it's been the best decision I ever made. My insurance only required a psych evaluation but I knew if I'm to be successful that I need to deal with what is going on in my head because it's not my stomach that caused the weight gain. I've been seeing the most awesome therapist for the last 6 months. Through therapy I have learned that I to establish boundaries with toxic family relationships; I've learned how to communicate my needs better with my family; I've learned how to deal with my emotions instead of eating over everything that happens; I've learned how to be proud of myself and my accomplishments instead of treating them like they don't matter and I don't matter; and, I'm learning how to let go of a lot of the negative behaviors around food. I will continue with this therapist after surgery as she has helped me so much in our time together.
