  1. Hey guys I am 3 days post op I believe I have passed all the gas they put in my body but I am having hunger pains. I'm following my diet as the paper said by the hour but the hunger pain is still there. It seems to get worse when I take my liquid medicine.Any advice for me. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeve Surgery Date is 22 March

I had my surgery yesterday morning (3/24/23). I have to say I've had a surprisingly smooth experience. Only very, very few and very mild gas pains and mild abdominal soreness. An abdominal binder was a life-saver for me. At first, I felt like I couldn't relax...I kept tightening my stomach. It was really "pain" but tension if that makes any sense. Then I put on a tank top with the abdominal binder over it, and the pain instantly dropped to like a 2. I've had it on ever since. I got home around 4:30pm, CT and managed to get in 28 oz of fluids before bed. I really couldn't have asked for a better outcome. I can only hope and pray things continue on this same path. How were all you guys' surgeries that happened over this past week or so?

    4 months post op

if you've been sticking to your program, then it's just a stall. Most of us experience several of those along the way - think of it as your body stopping to recalibrate once in awhile. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale - maybe just weigh yourself once a week until the stall breaks. And it WILL break. It usually takes 1-3 weeks, but occasionally they'll go longer. But it will break for sure as long as you're sticking to your plan.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

April 5th here and I'm a nervous wreck! I have found several Better Than Bullion flavors that are absolutely AMAZING. I'm day 3 on liquid diet and am trying to get creative so I don't get bored with the same things. I haven't got a clear answer on spicy vs plain broth. Anyone have any input? I only ask because the spicy chipolte version is to die for and I want to make sure spice doesn't affect liver shrinkage.
  5. 😣I just hit my 4 month post op on March 14th and have lost 95 pounds. I’ve been stuck at 207 for a week & a half. I’m doing my best at everything but I got used to the scale moving every week & I feel defeated. Anybody else feel/felt this type of way??

    Daily chronicles

So I am now experiencing what I think is constipation. Haven't gone since like day 3 . Feel like I need to or st least gassy but that's about it. I'm also having a hard time getting g protein in since they are having me dilute shakes. So I might go back to not diluting them so I can drink 2 gross shakes versus 8 a day cause it's only 11g when I dilute them half and half in a 8oz jar. I don't feel dehydrated or deprived in any way but still I wanna get that number in. Any tips?

    Any April Surgery Dates?

April 12th I start my liquid diet 3/29 I’m excited and nervous
  8. I am in a major stall! I have lost 50 pounds so I'm not disappointed in the total loss, but just not going below the 151-152 mark is annoying. I have 20 to 25 more to loss to reach my goal. Even though my calorie count is good I have not been drinking protein shakes. I just got so tired of the sweetness. (Never thought I would say that!) LOL At my dr appt last week I was told to go back to the shakes for 1 or 2 meals a day. Thanks for letting me vent!

    Omg my surgery is tomorrow

Congrats! 3 week post op here. Finally hitting the gym tomorrow! Time will fly! I thought I was gonna die week 1… now I’m looking back like girl please! Lol! I remember you said you were in NJ, when you’re feeling up to it in a few weeks we should definitely hit the gym or do some outdoors exercises 😊
  10. Oh yeah, I had terrible bloating during my pre-op diet. I couldn’t drink the number of protein shakes I was supposed to (3 shakes + small meal for the first week, and 4 shakes for the liquid-only second week). I used a lot of whey protein after surgery and didn’t have the same problems, though.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

April 14th here! Found out 3 days ago!
  14. It absolutely could be the shakes or the artificial sweeteners in them or the other zero calorie drinks. Try other shakes - maybe Fairlife or one made with pea protein? Also try different drinks - maybe tea or lemon water? I like Body Armor Lyte, they are made with erythritol, which I seem to do just fine with. Some people do better with savor drinks like bone broth. I felt like trash on my LRD as well (2 weeks, liquids only). You are definitely NOT alone. hang in there though, it doesn't last forever but it is an important part of the process!
  15. Hi everybody, I started my 2 week, pre-op LRD today and am really struggling…not with hunger, but with massive stomach pain/bloating and gas. My stomach can be sensitive to some foods (for example, I can’t eat fermented foods, aspartame, etc.), but I didn’t think I consumed anything “bad” today. My diet is supposed to be a protein shake for B, L & D with one yogurt and one egg per day (and unlimited zero sugar drinks). I had a Premier Protein shake (chocolate) for breakfast, one hard boiled egg for a snack, and 1/2 a Premier Protein shake for lunch a few hours later. Started getting really nauseous about midday, and my stomach now is just…pain. Also, I had a Gatorade Zero during the day. I have had small amounts of protein shakes leading up to this, and everything was fine, but this is most definitely some kind of bad reaction (maybe I’m a little lactose intolerant? I don’t drink much milk usually). I honestly don’t know how I’m going to survive this if I can even have protein shakes… Has anybody else gone through this?
  16. I love places that have great kids meals! This is from Moe’s Southwest Grill. Burrito, chips, drink, and a cookie! Will get 2-3 meals out of this. Free refills on the drink and chips too! What are some of your favorite kids meals?
  17. No, the Dietician is not the one the surgeon uses. I will be having my surgery at a place called the Rockwood Clinic, they have their whole own program with their own dietician. My insurance wants me to complete 12 dietician visits before surgery, and they told me to go to one near me. (Rockwood is 3 hours away). I did ask my insurance about going to the dietician at the clinic and I told them I would rather see a dietician who specializes in bariatric (especially since I have noticed bariatric dieticians take a totally different approach than this lady). My insurance said that it did not matter and that it would be best to see a dietician in my town so that travel would not be so inconvenient. I will be seeing the dietician that the surgeon uses after I get the surgery. I actually already feel very full the way I am eating now, and the dietician knows this. I did not go in complaining of being hungry, infact, I have eaten when I was not hungry because she wants me to eat every 4 hours 3 times a day and then have 2 snacks, I do not have the snacks, I do not need them. I would be happy eating twice a day to be honest, but the dietician does not advise that. I do not have any restrictions on carbs, sugar, fats, or anything. I am just not supposed to eat fast food, this dietician wants me to cook everything (I have explained I hate to cook and my current situation does not allow for me to have a normal kitchen). Currently, I eat tomatoes, sprouts, cucumbers, feta, hummus, avocado, Daves killer bread (thin slice) turkey bacon, ( I usually turn all of that into a sandwich) fage yogurt and strawberries, mushrooms stuffed with cheese spinach, tomato, onions, cilantro. might have chicken in tomato/basil/cilantro sauce or cauliflower pasta with clams. blueberries and apples. I used to drink a protein shake in the morning (mixed with soy milk) but she told me I needed to eat something with it (again I did not complain about hunger) so I added a slice of toast and an apple, and she liked that until a different visit when she said that eating a protein shake for breakfast and having yogurt at lunch was the same as having two giant glasses of milk and I need to stop with the yogurt. Well, I still have the yogurt at lunch and I eat the sandwich at lunch and breakfast and sometimes dinner too. The yogurt has 12-15 grams of protein depending on which one I choose. I also have at least 96 oz of plain water a day. I should add when I eat chicken (which is always either breast or tender never breaded, always cooked in the air fryer) I get so hungry about 20 minutes later it's weird, but chicken has that effect on me and that is why I do not really care for it.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

April 17th for me and I start my liquid diet 4/3 😳 I’m looking for a surgery twin buddy

    Robard pre-op diet

Yes it’s the plan the bariatric dept uses. It’s $100 per week. I need two weeks of it. They did say if I couldn’t afford it that I could do it on my own. My insurance does not cover it. They made that clear. But the nutritionist did say I will be spending on the shakes if I do it on my own. I do have a bunch of my own shakes but I won’t find out the types they want me to use until my surgery clearance appt. Coming up soon.

    Surgery 4/24/2023

Not an identical twin but 4/21/23!!!…. I’m not scared but I’m sure nervousness will set in the closer I get… starting my 2 week diet on 4/6… already purchased my post diet items. What vitamins are you taking?
  21. Dee your story sounds similar to mine. I had my original surgery done in 2005. I have spent the last 15 years trying to figure out what my issue was. Unfortunately, I was having lower bowel pain so I never got to the right doctors to have the right testing done. I moved to a new state in 2021 and had a bad episode is what I call it so I went to my primary doctor who sent me to a GI doctor who finally ran the right test and saw I had a fistula. She then sent me to a bariatric doctor who saw like you that I basically had food and whatnot going in two different directions. So basically like I never had the surgery. I go on 3/28 to figure out next steps and a surgery. How has your recovery process been? I am curious on what to expect.

    Sleeve surgery March 13th 2023

Hey everyone- quick update: I’m starting purées today and doing good. Applesauce and puréed Cuban black beans going down without issue. Happy to focus on moving into food proteins this week. Anybody else on purées or similar yet? How are you doing? What are you eating?
  23. comparison is the thief of joy and your doctor is absolutely correct. I have not been doing shakes at all since week 3. It definitely takes planning, but is doable. Honestly, in your situation, I would weigh less often than weekly. I would do every 2 weeks or even once a month. your doctor is happy, that says a lot about your progress. youve lost a stone! think about a time when THAT would have seem like a fantasy! youve got this! stay consistent! only compare you to YOU.
  24. I had my first follow up with my surgeon last night as this week makes it 6 weeks. I told him all my concerns that I shared in this thread and he basically told me to stop comparing myself to everyone else, as people lose weight at different speeds. He also told me that I don't need to be juggling down the 50g protein shakes I have been doing as it's all liquid calories, and that now I can eat solid foods again, to concentrate more on food protein than liquid protein. He said he's very happy with my progress, although I don't know if I believe him? I've stalled for the last three weeks and put on a pound this week, but he seems to be happy that I've lost a stone since 31st January. Personally, I think it's very slow. But I guess that's part of the comparison stuff isn't it? I'm moving house so I've packed my scales away and am going to try and weigh myself once every two weeks.

    PCOS and hormone struggles

I believe it can slow your rate of loss. There are a few here that have PCOS & were slow losers too so don’t give up. Some people are slow losers & didn’t have PCOS - it’s just how our individual bodies work. 19lbs in about 6 weeks is still a decent achievement. I always say celebrate every pound. Keep following your plan & tracking your food. You will eventually get to a weight you’re happier at. P.S. Chicken often causes people problems at first. (So can eggs + beef). It’s usually temporary & because it can be very dry & coarse. Try thigh instead & use lots of gravies & sauces etc. to keep it & all meats moist.
